Pool pairing : lync client doesn't reconnect to backup pool

Hi
I'm currently testing lync 2013 failover via pool pairing. (IM only)
Once I stop the Frontend service however on the pool01 server, I get a notification on the lync client : "connection was lost. Reconnecting.."
However the lync client doesn't connect again (while it should reconnect with limited functionality)
Before simulating (shutting down the service)
> Get-CsBackupServiceStatus shows "final state" - "normal state"
> pool2 is configured as backup of pool1 and visa versa
> cms is hosted on pool1 server
> 2 std servers (one with pool1, other with pool2)
SRV records
1 with priority 0  and value _sipinternaltls._tcp.customer.com, which points to hostname pool1.customer.com
1 with priority 10  and value _sipinternaltls._tcp.customer.com, which points to hostname pool2.customer.com
I've upgraded the lync client to the latest build to be sure.
Anyone knows where to look? Settings seem to be correct.

I've left all defaults regarding failover.
something to add :
* the servers are installed in the domain a.prod.customer.com
* the sip addresses of all users are @customer.com
* the users can be situated in the domain a.prod.customer.com, b.prod.customer.com or c.prod.customer.com
I've just tested and when I start a Lync client, I can see both SRV records popping up, so discovery of these records seem to work correctly.
When I stop the frontend server of the pool the user is on however, I don't see any redirect in the logs.

  • Direct Reports not showing in Lync Clients for certain users in a pool

Hello guys, I am having issue with some users not being able to see direct reports of their managers in lync clients. Direct reports correctly shown in AD and outlook, but not in Lync. I have two paired lync pools. This issue is happening to users situated
within a pool. If I moved the manager to second pool, then users will see his direct reports. Does anyone knows how to fix this issue?  Attached is sample.

    Hi dareadepoju,
This information is from AD, you can try synchronizing the information manually.
Delete the .slabs file from the file share sitting on 000000000\000000000 folder and then run Update-CSUserDatabase and after 5 minutes, run Update-CsAddressBook.
    The folder path:
    X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000\

  • Can lync client use internet proxy settings to proxy edge servers, if direct access is not reachable?

Hi everybody I am trying to Login with my lync Client out of my organization. So I am using lync as a remote user. I am in another organization, and I am using their coporate lan wired and wireless, but I cannot Login to lync in my organization.
I see that I cannot Access my edge Server on port 443 to authenticate directly, I know that Client in this organization use Internet Proxy to browse the Internet. they have a .pac in their ie Settings.
my question is; can lync Client use Internet Proxy Settings to reach the Destination? I mean the Access edge on port 443?
or it can use only Client direct Access to reach the edge Servers?
I Think that the answer is that I use tcp protocol and not http, and maybe that is the reason why I cannot use the Internet Explorer Proxy Settings to reach the Access edge Servers, different maybe is the case I Need to reach the reverse Proxy for live Meetings.
    Hope my question is clear.
    Thanks

Proxy settings are used to tell Internet Explorer the network address of an intermediary server (known as a proxy server) that is used between the browser and the Internet on some networks.
Lync client doesn’t use Internet Proxy Setting. You need to access the Edge service directly.

    Hi,
Is that you used the Users Email ID address while creating the user in Lync?
Try Specify SIP URI In first Block  nima in the drop down menu select your Lync server.
    Check this way.

  • Difference between pool pair relationship and Backup registrar configuration

    Hi,
I would like to difference between pool pair relationship and Backup registrar configuration?
Are both concepts are reffering same for DR site resiliency in Lync 2013?
    Thanks

Backup Registrar works the same in Lync 2013 as it did in Lync 2010. This allows for registration in the event the primary registrar is unavailable. Pool Pairing is built on top of the Backup Registrar functionality.
Take a look at the following:
Backup Registrar Functionality in Lync Server 2013: http://blogs.technet.com/b/dodeitte/archive/2012/08/08/backup-registrar-functionality-in-lync-server-2013.aspx

  • CMS Migration - Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 & Pool Pairing

    Hi all,
Question regarding CMS installation when migrating away from Lync 2010.
Here's a brief overview of topology
    - Lync 2010 Pool in Data Centre 1
    - Lync 2013 Pool #1 in Data Centre 1
    - Lync 2013 Pool #2 in Data Centre 2
    - Lync 2013 Pools are paired
    Consider the following
     - CMS located on SQL Backend server for Lync 2010 Pool
     - CMS database installed on SQL Back end for Lync 2013 Pool #1.  CMS is moved to this location
Now for correct pool pairing and failover capabilities I would assume that
     - CMS database needs to also be installed on SQL back end for Lync 2013 Pool #2
Once this is done then Lync 2013 Pool #2 Front Ends should replicate back into the CMS stored on the back end SQL database for pool #2?  Nothing else would need to be done?  As soon as it's installed its now a backup?
If I'm reading into this correctly the following from TechNet is basically telling me to do this?
When you establish a pool pairing that includes the pool hosting the Central
Management store, a backup Central Management store database is set up in the
backup pool, and Central Management store services are installed in both pools.
At any point in time, one of the two Central Management store databases is the
active master, and the other is a standby. The content is replicated by the
Backup Service from the active master to the standby.
    Thanks,
    paul.

Correct, when you enable pool pairing on Pool A - if it's a CMS server - it will prompt you to create the CMS database on Pool B. If you move CMS into a pool that is already pool paired, my experience is that CMS doesn't get created on Pool B because the
creation only happens during the pool pairing setup. Thanks -Richard

  • Unable to search GAL on Lync 2013 Front End Pool through Lync 2013 client

I'm in the beginning of a 2010 to 2013 migration and I'm currently testing co-existence functionality between pools.  I've noticed that users cannot search the GAL from their Lync client after being moved to the 2013 pool.
When trying to access the internal URL https://fepool13.domain.com/abs/handler the user is prompted to login and after three failed attempts, receives "401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.  You do not have permission
to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied".
Searching withing a Lync 2010 or Lync 2013 client returns no results, but there are no errors as well as nothing in the event logs or tracing folder regarding not being able to search.
The 2010 pool has been in production for a few years now and when accessing its internal ABS URL https://fepool10.domain.com/abs/handler the user is granted access after a successful login.
In the IIS logs there are slightly more detailed 401 error codes, but I’m not sure what to make of them.
The rtcab database appears to have user information and all three front end servers appear to be syncing with active directory.  I say the rtcab database appears to have user info because the AbUserEntry table is filled with User ID'd, GUID's and a
    bunch of other stuff.
The authentication on 2013 front end servers “internal lync website/abs/handler” is set to 1. Negotiate, 2. Ntlm - which is the same as the 2010 front end servers.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Which step did you do among migration from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013?
Did you already move CMS from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013?
Please create a new Lync account on Lync Server 2013 pool and test the issue again.

  • Skill Search works fine from search center, but it doesn't work from Lync client

My environment consists of Lync Server 2013 and SharePoint Server 2013.
I configured skill search and it works fine from search center, but it doesn't work from Lync client. An error appears says"error occurred during the search, please try again".
I configured these URLs in my client policy
    set-csclientpolicy -identity global -spsearchinternalurl http://<Sharepoint Server>/_vti_bin/search.asmx
    set-csclientpolicy -identity global -spsearchcenterinternalurl http://<Sharepoint Server>/searchcenter/pages/peopleresults.aspx
I checked these URLs from the browser and they work fine.
I disabled anonymous access to _vti_bin, but no change then i checked lync log but i didn't find any error then i used Wireshark and found that when Lync client contacts Sharepoint, Sharepoint responded to it with internal server error http 500
Please advice for what to do

  • Database changes during pool pairing in lync 2013

    Hi,
I am planning for pool pairing. Can anyone tell what all database get copied on bacup pool.Do we need extra storage for pairing.
will all previous lcscdr & lcslog get copied to backup pool?

According to my understanding, the database Lcscdr and Lcslog are not copied to backup pool.
The Backup Service is a data replication mechanism introduced in Lync Server 2013 that transfers user data and conference content between two paired Front End pools continuously across two data centers for disaster recovery purposes.

  • Lync client won't connect to a conference via dial-in number hosted on deterrent pool than conference.

    I have been
troubleshooting a very strange issue with Lync clients being unable to connect
to a conference via dial-in number when the conference is hosted on a different
pool. This happens internally and there is no media gateway or SIP trunk
    involved.<o:p></o:p>
    Users are
unable to join a conference from Polycom CX phones and Lync 2013/2010 software clients
by dialling conference Dial-in number which is located on a different pool than
actual conference. Users are prompted to input their conference ID, however,
they are never connected to the conference (10 min silence followed by error
    announcement). <o:p></o:p>
    This only
happens if the dial-in number is homed on a different pool than conference.
Both pools are Lync 2013 Standard Edition running on Windows Server 2012.
Servers and clients are patched with the latest CU.<o:p></o:p>
    I noticed that
when you call dial-in number’s SIP address, user will get transferred to a
conference (works ok). When you dial just a number users is never transferred
and RT Audio traffic still goes directly to a server which is hosting dial-in
    number.<o:p></o:p>
    After
checking Lync traces it looks like Lync client ignores the REFER message from
the FE server hosting Dial-in number and it never send an INVITE to the server
    whit active conference.<o:p></o:p>
    The only difference
between INVITES for working calls and calls that failed to connect to the
conference is the presence of the user=phone in TO header:<o:p></o:p>
    Working
    invite:<o:p></o:p>
    TO:
    <sip:[email protected]><o:p></o:p>
    Failed invite:

Please try to disable refer support for all pools.
The problem seems occur when Attendant transfer the call to another pool.

  • How to force the Lync Client to a specific server in the pool

I am troubleshooting an issue and need my client to connect to a specific server in my enterprise pool.
I have tried a host fie, I have deleted the EndpointConfiguration.CACHE file and I still cannot get my client to connect to the specific front end.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Using a host file should definitely work and I do this all the time for testing.
Are you using manual or automatic configuration? If it's manual then make sure that the name you specified resolves to the correct IP address by using PING.
If you are using automatic, use NSLOOKUP to determine what hostname it's trying to connect to and repeat the above.
This could either be sip.domain.com (as Edwin mentioned) or it could be the name of your Front End pool, depending on how it's configured.
The other thing you might want to try if everything looks correct and if you modified your HOSTS file while Lync was open, is just to Exit and re-open the Lync client.

  • Lync 2013 Enterprise Edition Pool Pairing

    Hello
I am trying to understand Lync pool pairing, my question is:
I have two geographically dispersed locations, Site1 and Site2. If I were to do pool pairing, would I create two sites in the topology builder with a separate FE pool for each site or do you create one site with more than one FE pool (or can you only put
    one FE pool per site?)
Another part of the question, if I have two sites would they both be active/active where user's would register to both locations and each site would act as a failover for the other, or would all users register to Site1 and if Site1 were to go down, they
    would re-register to Site2?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Agree with Michael, what’s more, when the failed pool is once more up and running, administrators can then run the Invoke-CsPoolFailBack cmdlet in order to "fail back" users of that pool. If a user is currently logged on to the backup pool then he or she
will be redirected back to their home pool after service has been restored.

  • Lync 2013 Full Client Disconnecting and Reconnecting at various times - Lync Online Office 365

    Hello:
We are using Lync Online with the Lync 2013 client from Office 365 Pro Plus.  The issue we have is the Lync Client will show "disconnected" and then "reconnecting" every so often (this can vary from every 10 minutes to once an hour)
All users are seeing this issue.  The user does not need to input anything in order to reconnect, the Lync Client will do it automatically.
Now, I think I know the issue of the disconnect/reconnect.  We use a TrendMicro Web Filter internally (version 6.0, SP1)  When we BYPASS the Trend device, the disconnect/reconnect issue DISAPPEARS.  When we re-enable it, it comes back.
We added all the O365 URL to the exception list, but it hasn't helped.  We opened a ticket with TrendMicro and they are looking at it, but I am wondering if anyone else has seen this before, and if so, what they did to resolve.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

    Hi Rodrigo,
    I would advise running through the Lync online sign in troubleshooting tool available here;
    http://support.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en;3695&showpage=1
Although very basic, it should give you clear direction for further troubleshooting.
Alternately, what's the error message you receive when logging in, and are there any details in the signing logs that can be accessed from the lynch system tray icon?
    Kind regards

  • Failover From one Pool to Another Pool Paired VS Features Available

    Hello Guys,
I like to ask about failover and features available during fail over.
I have two sites ( each has its own pool and both pools are paired) in two different data centers. Say, pool of site 1 fails in data center 1, and I want to fail over users of this pool to the second data center 's pool 2 in site 2.
What features will be available to these users after they have failed over to site 2's pool?
I have got this confusion that conferencing, Video, app sharing , IM will all fail over. But my understanding is that only audio and enterprise voice will be available for use as the clients will only have limited functionality.
can somebody clarify this with me pls?
    Thanks

Voice will fail over automatically after a set time specified in the topology. To fail over all other features is a manual process - this includes conferencing, video etc, but not response groups. Response Groups can however be backed up manually and moved
    using Export-CsRgsConfiguration and Import-CsRgsConfiguration.
