Pooled Desktop Collection Management
Hello,
I have created pooled Win7 virtual desktop collection which is working fine. When users disconnect from a desktop by click X in top right corner rather than logging off I want to be able to go in and right click the desktop and choose to log them off
like I would in a Citrix environment but I do not see this in the mgmt. interface. Do I have to use Hyper-V manager to do this or am I missing a mgmt. tool here?
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
In Server Manager -- RDS -- <your collection> you should see a list of connections. You can right-click on a disconnected collection and choose Logoff. To see the most up to date list click Tasks -- Refresh above the connections.
You may also do the above using the RDS powershell commands if you prefer.

Windows Server 2012 Pooled Virtual Desktop collection GetVMstate issue
I am trying to create a Pooled Desktop collection with my Powered off VM and it errors out The

In the debug logs it shows.
Component RdmsModel: GetVMstate for Vm Win7_BaseVM failed with error 16386
Component RDExceptionHandler: Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop. Ensure that the RD Virtualization Host server sunflower-1.HYPERQA.NUTANIX.COM is available on the network and that the virtual

Please help on resolving this GetVMState issue.Hi Krishna,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
When you are configuring RDVH initially, please see that you have meet prerequisites. Remember that you need these pre-requirements:
• Database based on SQL Server 2008 R2
• Static IP Address for all Broker
• Round Robin DNS
• All RD Broker must be members of AD Windows Group (es. RDCB Server Group)
• The group must be insert into SQL Server as sysadmin ONLY for the DB creation. After that DB will be created give the db_owner permission only for their DB
More information.
Windows Server 2012 R2: Unable Add New VDI Template
In addition, we need all RD Broker must have the same SQL Native Client as main SQL Server (es. SQL Server 2012 SP1). The Connection Broker server's computer account MUST be a member of the local administrators group on the Virtual Host (RDS Host) machine and
then reboot the server. Finally check the result.

Updating Template on Managed Personal Desktop Collection
I've created a Personal Desktop collection in Server 2012 R2 and selected "Automatically Manage Virtual Desktops" so machines are created automatically using a template. I've successfully added several Virtual Desktops to the collection,
now I need to update the template to included new patches or software. I'm not worried about updating the existing virtual desktops because they will get the patches and software from SCCM. However, I do want the changes to be part of the template
so they are immediately there for new virtual desktops that are added. I haven't found a way to do this is the Server Manager or Powershell, there is an option for recreating pooled desktops, but no way that I see to use a different or newer template
on an existing Personal Desktop collection.
Do I need to manually export the template machine to the Collections IMGS folder and overwrite what is there? Also, it doesn't make sense to delete/recreate or make a new collection for a template update.Hi Darin,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft.
I have discussed this issue with our team. There is no supported way to do this. You would need to update the template VM and
then re-export it, both of which have to be done manually. Some things to keep in mind though…if you just update the .vhd and you’ve changed VM Settings as well, those settings will not get picked up until the VM is re-exported.
Best regards,
Sophia Sun

Pooled - Unmanaged Virtual desktop Collection, 'Existing Virtual Desktop' blank?
I am trying to create a Pooled - Unmanaged Virtual desktop Collection on my Windows Server 2012 R2. I have created a hyper-v virtual machine with hyper-v manager.
But when I go to the server manager to add a new collection of virtual desktop, I chose the "Pooled Virtual desktop collection" radio button and also unchecked the "Automatically create and manage virtual desktops", then I hit next and
it asks me to select Existing Virtual Desktops. However the list there is blank and I don't see the VM that I created in hyper-v manager earlier.
I wonder how can I possibly fix it?
Thanks!Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Did you find any specific error\event ID for this case?
If the virtual desktop does not show up, you should close the wizard, add the virtual machines by using Hyper-V Manager, and then create the collection again.
From your description it seems that there might be some configuration issue while configuration. Please try to configure the whole scenario once again and check the result. You can follow beneath article.

How do you remove virtual desktops from a Windows Server 2012 R2 Pooled VDI collection
All - I have created a Pool VDI Collection with 15 total virtual desktops in it. I need to reduce the number of virtual desktops in that collection to five. I have searched through the GUI, TechNet and done a number of Google searches but nothing helpful
comes back. Does anyone know how to do this?
I am guessing I cannot just delete them out of Hyper-V since the collection knows how many desktops it is supposed to have assigned to it.
Thanks in advance.
Will SmothersHi Will,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
We can use PowerShell command “Remove-RDVirtualDesktopFromCollection“ to achieve your goal.
PS C:\> Remove-RDVirtualDesktopFromCollection -CollectionName "Virtual Desktop Pool" -VirtualDesktopName @("RDS-WKS-A27") -ConnectionBroker "rdcb.contoso.com"

I have two servers a RDS server and a hyperv host, the RDS server has all the rds services in it remote apps work and I can connect to local machines using the RDS gateway, I install a RD virtualization HOST on a hyperv host and created a pooled desktop
deployment desktop-1 and desktop-2, all seems to be working, I can launch a pooled desktop while on LAN, Once on the WAN I can not access to pooled desktops from rdweb or remote desktop app for a 8.1 client, same client I can access RDweb, remote apps,
remote computers using the RD Gateway but I can not access any of the pooled desktops. I attempted to connect and goes through the motions but hangs at "initiating remote connection" and will stay there forever, on the RDS gateway server there
is no connection listed. I try to connect through the RDS gateway directly to one of the pooled desktop computers it connects without issue. I've verified tcp 3389 and udp 3391 on firewall are open.
It seems like i'm missing something in he RDS gateway configuration that will allow it to connect tor pooled desktops.Hi Darren,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For external user access to internal Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, we need to deployment a RD gateway to handle those requests.
-Check whether there is appropriate trusted certificate is configured properly.
- We can open TCP port 443 & UDP port 3391 for remote clients. It passes traffic to and from the client over port 443, and to and from the internal resource over port 3389. Any communication between the RD Gateway and the external client is also encrypted.
Also please check whether RD CAP & RD RAP policy is configured properly.
In addition it appears that there is some configuration issue, so please check accordingly as per following article.

RDS 2012 - Virtual desktop collection with powershell and custom answerfile fails on VDI deployment
Hi Guys,
I try to deploy a new virtual desktop collection with Win8 VDI's (pooled/managed) based on a custom answer file. Everything needs to automated so working with the server manager is not an option, that's why the answer file is needed.
The lab environment is based on Windows Server 2012 and Win8 Enterprise only. So functional level etc. is off course Windows Server 2012.
I Use the following command:
New-RDVirtualDesktopCollection `
-CollectionName "Pooled Managed Win8" `
-Description "This collection contains Pooled and Managed Win 8 VDI machines." `
-OU "VDI" `
-ConnectionBroker "RDSCB01.lab.local" `
-PooledManaged `
-CustomSysprepUnattendFilePath "\\hyper02\_Unattend\OOBE-only.xml" `
-VirtualDesktopAllocation @{"hyper02.lab.local"=3} `
-VirtualDesktopNamePrefix "Pooled-Win8-" `
-UserGroups "lab.local\domain users" `
-MaxUserProfileDiskSizeGB 1 `
-VirtualDesktopTemplateHostServer "hyper02.lab.local" `
-VirtualDesktopTemplateName “_WIN8-Template” `
-UserProfileDiskPath "\\hyper02.lab.local\_UserProfileDisks" `
-StorageType LocalStorage `
-LocalStoragePath "E:\_VDI" `
-Force `
-Debug
$error[0]|format-list -force
I tried multiple answer files, but even with this simple one it fails:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Desktop Window Manager high CPU utilization
I have several Windows 2012 servers that are showing high CPU utilization (70% or higher) coming from the Desktop Window Manager. I do not have the Desktop Experience feature installed on these machines. The interesting thing is that the process
for dwm.exe does not show up as a service that I can stop or restart. I've read through the various posts about re-registering dmw.exe so that the service shows up again, but nothing has worked. Since these are application and file servers with
no need for regular desktop use, I don't really need any fancy desktop graphics or performance. I have the Advanced Performance Options set to 'Background services'. Can anyone tell me how to stop dwm.exe or at least reduce it's CPU footprint?
Thanks,
JoeHi Joe,
Based on my research, On Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, DWM is used at all times and cannot be disabled.
For more detailed information, please refer to this article:
Desktop Window Manager is always on:
To troubleshoot the high usage of CPU, I would like to recommend to follow this article to collect and analyse the relevant log files and dump files:
Troubleshooting High CPU performance issues - Part 1
If you want to analyse the dump file, I also recommend you can open case and contact Microsoft support.
I hope this helps. -
Is there a way to Report out Remote Desktop Gateway Manager Monitor data?
We are running Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services configured to provide a managed pool of VMs through a RD Gateway server. Everything is working well. We would like to generate a regular report on the information that shows up in the Gateway
Monitoring window about connections and users etc. Is there any way to generate such a report without purchasing 3rd party software?Hi,
Based on my experience, you can use Remote Desktop Gateway Manager to view information about active connections from Remote Desktop Services clients to internal network resources through an RD Gateway server. However, there is no such options in
RD gateway manager to create reports for that.
It seems that System Center Operations Manager can monitor Remote Desktop Gateway Service and the number of sessions that run through the RD Gateway are monitored.
Best regards,
Susie

Remote Desktop Connection Manager can only open 6 sessions at a time on Server 2012
I am only able to open, and view thumbnails, for a maximum of 6 RDP sessions on my Server 2012 box at a time in Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCM). If I add more sessions I just get a variety of connection errors for the additional sessions. If I activate
a 7th session one of the existing 6 sessions goes off-line with a connection error message. Sometimes the error says 3334, sometimes the error says 0x8345000E, and sometimes it just says there is a connection error.
I have checked Group Policy on the server to ensure I don't have any settings restricting the number of RDP sessions.
In fact, I will often have 30 or 40 RDP simultaneous sessions opened, I am just not able to view them all in RDCM. I have seen reviews of RDCM with screenshots showing dozens of thumbnails so it seems to be something that's possible to do.
Are there any settings I should make on the server to allow RDCM to connect to more than 6 simultaneous RDP sessions?
Just to be clear, all these RDP sessions are running on the same server. Also, I am just using the trial license for Server 2012 and Remote Desktop Services right now. I don't think that should have an impact, but I wanted to be thorough. Thanks Jakub for "corflags" info.
Unfortunatelly it doesn't work because running mRemoteNG.exe process in 64bit can't load MSTSC ActiveX component (referenced assemblies) because original files were assembled from 32bit dll [mstscax.dll]?
Error message when making RDP connection:
Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.MSTSCLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
I was able to create new AxInterop.MSTSCLib.dll and Interop.MSTSCLib.dll assemblies from 64bit dll version and now it works with "AnyCPU":-)
http://www.filedropper.com/axinteropmstsclib-mremoteng
Using AxImp.exe and TlbImp.exe didn't worked for me because it creates assemblies in wrong namespace "MSTSCLib" instead of "Interop.MSTSCLib" (AxImp.exe) and TlbImp.exe for changing namespace generated many "marshaled errors"
so final .dll wasn't working.
Adding MSTSCAX.dll reference in Visual Studio directly created correct and functional assemblies. Who don't know how to create 64bit compatible assemblies or don't have Visual Studio, feel free to check linked file.
Hope it helps
P.S. Sorry for possible technical misinterpretation, I am not programmer so creating new assemblies was trial-error process... -
Hello,
The main purpose of this BADI is to send fi-ar data to FSCM.
The BADI FDM_COLL_SEND_ITEMS is active, so When we create a customer in XD01, we are able to see that in Business Partner Tcode BP.
Our business requiremet is to create two additional fields to the worklist for Collection Management. So we have used the method COMPLETE_DATA which is available in BADI FDM_COLL_SEND_ITEMS and populated additional fields which are required by the business.
We have to execute BADI to get two additional columns in the Collections worklist, but If i execute the BADI, i am getting the message that "BAdI FDM_COLL_SEND_ITEMS is active". If i dont keep the BADI Active, i cant get the A/R data to FSCM.
Please let me know what are the Pros and Cons If i setup "FDM_COLL_SEND_ITEMS" as a background job in my current scenario to get AR-DATA into FSCM (OR) Should i have to definitely setup "FDM_COLL_SEND_ITEMS" as an Background Job.
Please advice me how to proceed.
Thanks
RajanikanthRajnikanth,
Did you extend the BAdi to have additional fields sent to collections? for the fields to be available in the worklist i think there are two other BAdi's to be created. if you have figured out let me know as we are doing the same adding a couple of fields from the old credit management of SAP (FI-AR)
Thanks

Server 2012: Remote desktop licence manager not issuing licences
Hi,
I am battling with an problem which i cannot seem to resolve and no other forums actually come to a conclusion on how to resolve this problem!
I have a windows server 2012 server which is NOT part of a domain.
I have installed Remote Desktop Services and also installed the Remote Desktop License manager and i just cannot get the license manager to issue cals when users connect remotely via RDP
I have installed an extra two CAL's and tried using them as both a "Per User" and also "Per Device" but still does not work.
I have now run out of my grace period and cannot connect to the server at all
I have also tried changing some gpo's with no luck,
Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Licensing
"Use the specified RD license servers" = myservername
"Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode" = Per User
How can i fix this?
ThanksHi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you seen that you have activated RDS License server before installing CAL?
Please check that the License Server should be part of ‘Terminal Server License’ group in Active Directory Domain Services. You can also configure RD License server manually by powershell commmand. Please check below article for information.
RD Licensing Configuration on Windows Server 2012
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2013/09/20/rd-licensing-configuration-on-windows-server-2012.aspx
In addition, please install below Hotfix and verify the result.

Hope it helps!

Hello, dear colleagues.
We are using Windows Server 2012 R2 as Remote Desktop Server. Also use Windows Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Service Manager to control RDS user sessions (Send Message, Disconnect, Logoff, Query Info).
Send Message, Disconnect, Logoff options works only for users in Administrators group.
I can't to configure permissions for Remote Desktop Users, specific user or AD group.
To set permissions I'm running RDS Host Configuration on Windows Server 2008 R2 and connect to Windows Server 2012 R2. Then double-click
RDP-Tcp, Security tab, add specific user account , AD group or configure
advanced permissions
for Remote Desktop Users.
But, as I sad above, these options works only for users in Administrators group. How to make it work for Remote Desktop Users or specific user, AD group?
Thanks.
P.S. If move specific user from Remote Desktop Users group to Administrators group on
Windows Server 2012 R2 - it works.Hi,
You can prevent administrators from changing the permissions for a connection by applying the
Do not allow local administrators to customize permissions Group Policy setting.
This Group Policy setting is located in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security
Apart there is one command with which you can set the permission for that check the related
article. Additionally checkthis
thread for more detail.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.
