Poor advice ends up with having an 18 month contra...

After being a very happy VM customer for many years, we recently moved to a non VM area.
We moved to a brand new build on a very small development of approximately 40 homes. I was the last to move in. Although I had spoken to residents that had Infinity, BT informed me that the only service available was upto 17mb BB. So I signed to phone line & BB on a 12 month package. The Openreach engineer turned up installed everything and actually told be I could get Infinity. Low & behold over Xmas I checked online and I could get the upto 76mb package. However as the 12 month contract is only available to "new" customers I had no choice but to sign up for 18 months. As although I'd only been with BT for one week I was not new!
Now, call me a cynic but I can't help seeing this as a back door method of locking new customers in for longer than the usual 12 months.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

Yes, I have rebooted it. I think, because the screen was totally dark. Software is fine. The store just said it has to be a hardware issue and hardware does not get fixed. Apparently, it just happens to some iPads and no clue why.. It is working fine at the moment. So, I will wait  till the screen goes totally dark forever to buy a new one.

    Is Mail still "spinning"?  If it's been doing that for a while, I'd kill it, using either Activity Monitor or the OS X application picker.  Then relaunch Mail and see what happens.
    Two "by the ways":
    1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac.  Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac.  You might want to consider updating your system details.
    2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field.  In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it.

    Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
    Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

  • Followed ALL the online help and still ended up with a 120Gb paperweight

    I had a problem with my iPod synchronization. It wouldn't do it at all. I had music on there but any time I tried to put new music or playlists on it wouldn't cooperate. I plugged in my iPod and it came up and then I selected it and pushed the "sync" button. Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing! I have been readin all the posts on here as well as all of the troubleshooting advice from the gurus and there hasnt been one single thing that has helped me. I even went so far as to restore my coputer and then reinstall everything and I still ended up with a migraine. I sincerely abhor having to pay hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for warranties and repairs when the only thing different from when it worked to now is the updates for iTunes. If it comes down to it I feel apple should give everyone a free pass for technical support every time they come out an update so that all of us apple users can continue to love the stuff we buy from them, instead of makign us pay for thier screw ups and then blaming the user.

    I don't know if you have tried this yet, but you may have enabled manual music management. On the main iPod screen in iTunes, there is a checkbox near the bottom that says "Manually manage music and videos." Uncheck this to have whatever is on your computer automatically sync with your iPod.
    If that does not work, check the music tab and see if the checkbox for "Sync music" is selected. If it is not, do so.

    I found an answer to this on another page (I was having the same problem) This worked for me:
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.

  • HT1386 when i try to sync, each device i sync to ends up with different amount of information, for instance in iTunes, i have my eric claption collection which has 34 albums. but when i sync  to my i phone, there are only 26 albums, same with my touch, on

    When I sync my I tune music library to my other devices, none of the other devices end up with the same amount of music.  For instance, in my itunes library on my mac, i have 34 complete albums.  When I sync to my iphone only 26 albums come over (it is not a memory issue, i have 25 gb of free space on my iphone), on my touch, again syncing with changing anysetting, i only getr 26 albums, but not the same 26 albums that i get with my iphone, again no memory issue. When I sync my ipad mini, my clapton collection tells me I have 48 albums with 340 songs, agin on my mac I only have 34 albums with 421 songs, agan, no setting changed between syncs. on My Ipad tablet, my clapton library shows 340 songs with 57 albums.  By the way if I go into my clapton library and count manually how many albums are on my ipad there are only 25. 
         Tech suppoert has been worthless, they keep haveing me do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.  Pure insanityl
    Does anyone have similar issues or have a clue as to what is going on or where to get competent help in resolving these issuse.

    Are all these songs associated with the same Apple ID or were some purchased on another account?
    Are they tagged properly? In the library does it break an album out into several different albums with a few tracks each?
    Check your sync settings for each device. Do you accidentally have only certain songs/albums syncing?

When I finish my work I turn off the imac and then again when they return to work and care, it can not connect to Time Capsule Airport, making it impossible to remove the files and make back up by Time Machine only works when I turn off and turn on the Airport Time Capsule , but I think this may end up with the unit.     In the airport utility bring up your Time Capsule.

    Use WPA2 Personal security with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.
    read apple instructions to help with TM and TC.. they did finally admit it has issues in Mavericks.

  • When using firefox and each time I open a new tab I end up with a split screen and it is annoying. How so I fix it.

    I open firefox. Go to website then where there is a + sign I open a new tab. A new tab comes up but then splits the screen into two with a new tab in the middle and I end up with 3 small split screens in the one instead of 3 separate tabs.because it is doing that i cannot then get a full screen and go about my usual business. Lately there seems to be numerous problems with fire fox loading also. it continues to come up with page not found and try again. I hit try again and then it may find the page. these are on sites that I access daily and have done so for several years now. Never before have I had so much trouble with fire fox. Not only I but we have four computers accessing the internet ...have done for some time and never had this problem but everyone is suddenly experiencing the same problem. The only thing new that has been put on the main computer is a K9 protection thing recently and I am wondering could that have anything to do with these issues and if not is fire fox having tech issues . How can these problems??

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I do a lot of reading, and when I summarize my comments, I like to save these comments in a larger document I compile over time. I typically create a comment summary, export it to a text editor and find myself having to delete author, date, time, page number, and anything else that is not the raw and net comment. It would save me some good time if someone showed me how to do this. The reason I do not want any additional information is because it simply adds stuff I do not need in my compilation of summaries for large amounts of papers over time.

    What you're describing can't be achieved using the built-in comments summary function of Acrobat, but it can certainly be done if a custom-made script it used to generate the summary because then you're in full control of what's included in it and what's not.

  • Management console end up with error 1 status

    Hi Friends,
    When I start SAP management console, it is end-up with error status 1.  Immediately after starting Management console, it is coming to Green color and with in 2~3 minutes, again it is coming to Yellow color and ending with error status-1.
    Could anyone please help to solve this issue as I am not able to log-on SAP for a long time?

    Agree with garyc007. Exchange 2010 tools show the currently installed Service Pack version, and not what RU is currently installed.
    Exchange 2010 SP3's build number is 14.3.123.4. One CAS server ends up with version 14.03.0174.001, it means this server has installed Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 SP3 successfully. I recommend you check if the other server has installed Update

  • After initial import, I end up with tons of duplicates

    I bought my first Mac (macbook) about 3 months ago and am just trying iPhoto. I keep ending up with several copies of the same photos when I initiate the import. The Mac setup as folders is a little confusing to me but I chose the folders that had my photos I wanted to import. Not only do I get many copies of the same photos, I also get system icons transferred over.
    Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks.

    What are you dragging into iPhoto to import? If you getting some system icons then you're selecting some system folders it appears.
    If you still have the photos on your hard drive outside of iPhoto create a new library (launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select "Create new..." ) and drag just the individual folder(s) that contain the image files into iPhoto. Make sure the contents of the imported folder contains only the jpg or image files.

    What problems have you been having with the 11 version flash? Adobe just recently released 11.3, I'd suggest you update to that and give it a try.
    As for if plugin container is using too much RAM, it depends on what you think are "general websites". Is this flash ad heavy pages, youtube, etc. Or simple all text pages?
    You can try to reset Firefox and see if that helps at all. [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
    Also make sure you have all Windows updates, updated your graphics driver, etc.

    Well are you syncing them with the same acount?  Are you syncing them to the same source?  If you are both syncing the iCal on the same computer then you are going to end up sharing all the entries.  You need two differnt AppleId's and user ID on the comuter you are syncing to if you want everything to stay seperate.
