Poor audio question

Is there something available to EQ audio system-wide? I'm running 10.4.11 on a PPC Mac, so I can't access the new app store. I just got new speakers and they sound great with iTunes because I of the mulit-band EQ, but using other software for playback (QuickTime, Jam, etc.) with limited or no tone control, or listening / watching content online, leaves much to be desired. Is there an EQ widget that I might have missed? I tried looking for widgets on Apple's site, couldn't find anything. Seems like there oughta be something that would install so that settings are system-wide and in the System Preferences. Yes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I found a great little piece of software called "Audio HiJack" (no, I don't work for them). It basically "hijacks" any audio heading for your audio-out port and allows you to process it (and record it, if you want). No latency issues either - so it works fine with video (youtube or whatever). It uses plug-ins (several included, but you can add your own as well) and you can set up application-specific sets or just effect the whole mess at the system level. I found that just using 3 of the included plug-ins does the trick: 31 band EQ, multi-band compressor, and an "aural exciter". I'm VERY happy with the output now - I swear I would've sent these speakers (Creative Labs T 10) back if I hadn't found this software. The only (small) thing is that you have to turn it on at startup (won't launch in "hijack" mode), but you can set it to minimize to the menu bar and run it from there. Saved my sanity. Thanks for the response, though. Life is good (with the right software).

  • Can't edit multiple tracks - plus 2 easy audio questions

I have a sequence with 1 video track and 6 stereo audio tracks. I set an in and an out point. The area on the clips in the timeline between the two edit points highlights, I hit delete. Normally, the tracks between the points should disappear as the two segments come together and form one great edit.
But all the tracks do not highlight and edit. The video track and stereo audio tracks 3+4 and 5+6 highlight and LIFT off. But audio tracks 1+2 do not highlight or edit. And the whole sequence doesn't close together where the edit should be.
Only way I have been able to overcome this is to use the razor blade tool, cut each track individually. Highlight them all, and then hit delete.
This didn't use to be the way. FCP used to edit through one track, 3 tracks or all tracks, no problem.
Two audio questions. How do you stop the waveforms from drawing onto the clips in the timeline, in order to speed up FCP?
How do you get the audio in captured clips to be a Stereo Pair, from the outset?
Thanks to all you who help!

Is it usual for FCP to bog down on a 4 minute piece when audio wave forms are turned on??
    <
No. Should run fine. You get up into 6-12 audio tracks, FCP gets all moody and pouty.
But it depends on your system's capabilities and how well you have chosen your sequence settings.
Audio waveforms n FCP are a cruel joke compared to many other NLEs. Often easier to leave them off in the timeline, use the waveform in the Viewer and set markers for hooks in the audio tracks.

  • Lync 2013 and Audiocodes ESBC Mediant 1000 - poor audio quality

Bit of an odd issue that I've been looking into for the past few weeks - our part of our change from a pilot Lync install to production we have had an Audiocodes ESBC Mediant 1000 installed to serve as a Media Gateway between the Lync Mediation Server and
our Gamma Telecom provided SIP trunk.
However under certain situations my users are reporting exceptionally poor audio quality with the Lync server reporting website reporting a very high packet loss and our ESBC reporting a high 'Average voice delay' (often greater than 80ms).
I have established that by taking these steps the issue can be replicated with almost impunity-
Make incoming call from mobile phone (or landline) - pickup call on Lync Deskphone (CX300/CX500/CX600 and VVX410 all have the same).
Begin a consultative call transfer with an external (another mobile/landline) or internal number which places the incoming call on hold.
Complete the call transfer - at this point the audio quality is still as expected.
Begin a new call from a Lync phone to an external number - at this point the audio quality for the phone call that has been transferred and the new call instantly degrades.
    My basic topology is-
    Fibre Leased Line - Cat5e cable - Router - Cat5e cable - DMZ Switch - Cat5e cable - Audiocodes Mediant 1000 - Cat5e cable - Servers VLAN - Switch - Fibre - Core switch (layer 3) - Fibre - VMWare Host (ESXI v5) - Lync Server (VMNET 3 adapter)
I have been able to replicate the issue when using both TCP and TLS between the Lync Mediation Server and the Audiocodes gateway.
Over the next day or so I will be looking to get the SIP trunk connected directly to the Lync server to see if that makes any difference (ruling out the Mediant 1000 as a possible cause) but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas as to what could be
    causing this most weird situation?

    Hi,
Please disassociate the Edge Server from the Mediation and check the delay again.
Please check port 3478 to the internal interface of the Edge Server from all internal clients (including the Mediation Server).

  • Poor Audio Quality From Exchange 2010 UM

    Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with our Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging system in that the audio quality is suddenly rather poor.  We are using Cisco Callmanager 7 for our phone system.  When you call an automated attendant, hit the "messages"
button or call the extension to go to voicemail, the audio you hear "crackles," or sounds like it is skipping slightly in that there are brief but noticable interruptions in the audio.
The audio quality issue only occurs when you are connected to voicemail or automated attendants, but not when conversing to other people on phone calls, so that leads me to believe either some interoperability between CM and Exchange UM is malfunctioning, or
just something in UM is a problem.  Also, if you listen to voice messages through the computer instead of over the phone, the quality is fine.  The problem seems to be mainly with calling in to the UM system.
What can I do to properly troubleshoot this?  I have found the Exchange 2010 UM Troubleshooting Assistant, but I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can install Service Pack 1 due to downtime window restrictions.  I'm not coming up with a lot of
documentation involving this, so if anyone has any information they think might help me get to the bottom of this I would apprecaite it.
    Thank you.

Cisco Callmanger and UM are on the same LAN.
I highly doubt that QoS is the culprit here, simply because there aren't any issues with phone calls.  If QoS was dropping VOIP packets, then IP phone to IP phone calls would also have poor audio quality.  If I call somebody on another IP
phone on the LAN, the audio quality is perfect.  It is only when you are connected to the UM system that you hear the poor audio quality -- either listening to voicemail prompts, listening to actual voicemails, listening to the automated attendant --
anything in which UM is on one end of the phone call.
It also seems strange that this is somewhat intermittent.  When the issue first occurred, it was definitely happening every time you called in to the UM system and I could repeat the issue by simply pushing my messages button and listening to the welcome
and prompt for a PIN.  I restarted the Exchange server at night, and the next day it was intermittent with people calling the help desk to say they were getting poor audio quality from UM but when I tried to repeat the issue I could not.
I also have users complaining of intermittent slowness when using Outlook, which may be totally unrelated.  I have been running Perf logs on the Exchange server for the last couple of weeks othe CPU, Network Connections, Exchange RPC totals, etc.
and can't find anything that is using too many resources.

  • Satellite Pro S500-11C - poor audio performance

    Hi Folks,
I have a Satellite Pro S500-11C which suffers from the poor audio performance mentioned in reviews of the S500-11C (yeah I should have *+listened+* to the reviews and excuse the pun).
This is making it very difficult to use this laptop for audio applications such as music, VOIP and Skype without having to carry about a heaeset of some type.
Has anyone else eperianced this problem and had a solution. Any help from Toshiba??
    Best Regards,
    Andrew

Sorry but what kind of problem do you mean exactly? Is the sound not loud enough or what?
I mean this notebook has standard stereo speakers and not high end harman/kardon speakers inside.
I have Satellite L300 in front of me with same stereo speakers. Sound is OK but not so good as on other laptops with h/K speakers.
By the way: what kind of help do you expect? Some new driver that makes speakers louder maybe?

  • Poor audio with 30G ipod and apple dock into home reciever

Slightly garbled and too much base. I've tried the apple "fix" of not connecting the sync cable but no change, still poor. I read the dock audio should be line out, yet when i adjust the ipod volume the volume into the reciever changes. This is not the way a line out should work.
Is this a flaw in the new video ipods? Any tricks to fix?
    pc   Windows ME

The Headphone out is not a pure line level. No headphone out is. Then u have either fixed or variable line level outputs. U can consider this to be a variable line leve out ( I keep the ipod volume at no more than 90 percent.
As for poor audio I havent used the dock yet but maybe your problems are more to do with your PC???
    Were they badly compressed files????

  • Mac Mini: poor audio quality

I have my Mac Mini connected to my plasma (yes, doing the HTPC thing). I'm finding the audio output is really poor, regularly scratchy and lacks loudness in the volume.
I have tested the Mini versus my Macbook, using the same source file (a DIVX movie), Plex as the player, connected to my TV. The Macbook is fine, the Mini has the issues mentioned above.
I have tried iTunes, eyeTV and DVD Player on the Mini - all have the same issues. Seeing the same setup works fine with my Macbook, I take it the audio cable and audio amplifier in the TV are all fine.
So this leaves the issue with the Mac Mini
Any thoughts on what the issue could be and how to go about fixing it would be much appreciated.

Yes, using the combo optical/headphone out, connected to my TV via RCA inputs.
Reducing to 3 makes its so quiet that I have to blast the volume on my TV in order to hear anything.
I don't have a high-end set of headphones, but the headphone quality is good unless I have the volume up loud, then it distorts. Some people have hinted that the Mac Mini has a headphone output only where as the other Macs have a line out. If this is the case than the Mac Mini audio will only be good via headphones or an amp with optical input.
So inputting via an analog amp is either out of the question OR my Mini has a hardware fault!

  • Easy way to add more audiotracks??? + Environment midi/audio question???

    Hi!
Let's say, when I open a new project I have standard 24 audio tracks.
But when recording I see that I will need more, is there an easy and fast way to add more tracks?
As I see it now, I Have to run the Logic Setup Assistent, add more tracks (let's say 40). Reopen the project, go in the environment, create a new audio object for every track I want to add, double click it and assign the correct track to 'channel'. If I need to add 10 more tracks I have to go over these last steps 10 times. Am I missing some handy quick trick here?
Also, the second part of my question:
when I open the environment window, sometimes it only shows "midi" and the "GS instrument drum mapped" and some other times it shows "audio" and an "overview of my mixer". This seems to happen at random and I don't know why. The mixer view is what I want (especially when I need to add tracks as mentioned before), but when I get the midi view I don't know what to do to get the audio/mixer view. Any help?

    Ok,
There is a way so you wont have to do the 10 setups.
Run the Setup Assistant and when it asks how many
audio tracks you want, always tell it more than you
will possibly need. I use 101. I know I will probably
never use that many but they are already and waiting
in case I do need more. This way you dont have to do
anything except go to the track menu and select create
new or double click the arear below the last
track and what ever track is highlighted, a exact duplicate
will appear. Then you just click and hold on it to make it
whatever kind of track you need from the menu that appears.
This first answer takes care of the second question. Since you
dont need to go into the enviroment to hook up new tracks.
Just so you know if you click and hold on the name of the layer
Midi, instruments, clicks and ports or whatever another menu
will appear letting you choose what layer you want to go to.
    This is the easy way!

  • T410s/T410/T510 DP- HDMI, audio questions, survey

    Hi,
after all the confusion concerning DisplayPort-audio and the T-series, I decided to find out for myself and test it at my local Lenovo dealer.
As my dealer had not a single HDMI and audio capable output device in his shop, I brought my own Medion MD 20226 LCD TV, which has 2 HDMI-in ports.
The idea was to use a 2m DisplayPort->HDMI-cable provided by the dealer in order to connect the T410s in question to my little TV.
Background: Due to the misleading information from Lenovo concerning the last generation T400s/T400/T500 models and their audio over DisplayPort issue (no audio at all), I expected to get a picture without any problems but that I would need to figure out how to enable the sound by changing some settings inside Windows 7.
What happened: Actually neither me nor my dealer were able to get ANYTHING out of the DisplayPort, when using the DisplayPort->HDMI-cable. There was NEITHER video NOR audio!
I should point out that at the time being my dealer only had T410s models without the (maybe) switchable NVidia graphics.
Another point that I want to emphasize is that, after 45 minutes of trying everything we could to make it work, we switched to the T510 that was standing right beside the T410s in his show room. Unfortunately I was too confused to ask what kind of graphics setup this machine had, but the result was the same: no video, no audio at the TV.
As it is apparent that there are quite a lot of confused Lenovo customers out there that have similar questions:
I HEREBY FORMALLY ASK FOR A DETAILED AND IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION/CLARIFICATION OF POSSIBLE DP->HDMI, DP-AUDIO AND DP->HDMI-AUDIO ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT T410s/T410/T510 SERIES (all combinations of graphics cards).
Of course I think that it would be best if one of the Lenovo engineers would take care of that in one of the Lenovo blogs.
But until then, it might be a good starting point to ask those of us, who already have a T410s/T410/T510.
So I just start right away:
    MODEL:                   T410s (NUK39GE / 2912-39G)
    used GPU:              Intel GMA 5 / QM57
    DP->DP-video:       not tested
    DP->DP-audio:      not tested
    DP->HDMI-video:  tested->not working
    DP->HDMI-audio: tested->not working
As I said, I was only able to test it at my local Lenovo dealer and I gave up after around 1 hour of testing. So it might be, that someone who has more time and resources (different adaptors) might be able to get it running.
So to all of you out there with a new Tx10(s), please take the time, find your next HDMI-TV and try it.
And to Lenovo: as long as there is no official statement concerning this, I will keep asking for an official response ;-) (and THIS time, don't blame the chipset, as the new Intel-Calpella has all the HD-video/audio goodness one could ask for: wiki article on Intel Calpella and its DP features).
    Thanks for reading all this!

  • Poor Audio Quality in my new HP 15 R203TX

Hi I have just purchased HP pavillion 15 R2037TX laptop. It comes with 5th gen 5200U processor with 4gb ram, 2gb nvidia 820M graphics 1tb of hdd with DOS with realtek hd sound technology.  I installed win 8.1 and accordingly installed all the drivers from the official hp website. After installing audio driver I found that DTS audio control panel was installed. My laptop is working fine except one thing  I am not getting proper sound quality which i used to enjoy in my previous e038tx laptop that  too came with DTS audio. The sound is not sweet or crisp rather very hazy when playing through external subwoofer and speaker. I enjoyed clear and crisp audio quality in the same speaker and sub woofer  previously. Plus I can not understand why after realtek hd audio I get dts audio control panel. Because the audio vendor says its hardware is Realtek HD audio. Realtek has its own audio control panel which I do not find here. Whatever kindly help me how can i enjoy beautiful sound >? thanx in advance

  • Poor audio quality in iChat

When I use iSight in Skype it delivers a way better audio quality in comparison with iChat Audio/Video chat. It's not that crisp, more like a poor telephone call. I wonder if I can change it or is it just an iChat nature?
My connection speed is 1 MB.
Straming in Quicktime changed to 1.5 MB
My Output/Input settings in Sound tab seems OK.
    I don't use firewall.

    Hi Sleeze,
I do not have Skype so I can not judge. Most of the posts I have read seem to suggest iChat Audio is better.
However Skype could have updated their app.
As long as iChat Bandwidth and Quicktime streaming setting in System Preferences are not capping your connection I can not see any other changes you can make. (unless you are "too far" from the camera). If the last is the case it may pay to adjust the volume in System Preferences > Sound >Input tab as this is the master for iChat. I am not sure if it is the same for Skype.

  • IChat: Poor Audio and Video

Hi everyone, hoping for some insights into improving my connection.
Well, I've read everyting I can find and whilst I can now connect - (DON'T put iChat and Skype in the Login items) - I'm getting pretty unuseable audio and video.
Here's what I've tried and where I'm at:
    QT streaming is at 1.5
    iChat is on None
    Mac Firewall is OFF
I connect via WIFI to a "FreeBox" - a combi router and modem here in France issued by my ISP.
For simplicity I've put my iMac in the DMZ on the router setup page.
The iMac has never run anything before 10.4.8
    I do DHCP manually.
There is an AIrport Extreme card inside (AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 4.80.46.0
    NO iChat add-ons
Bandwidth... the last speed test says 2,27 Mbit/s down and 136,17 kbit/s up
I Just tried chatting with defcom1 (thanks mate!) and it was really bad - from my end. At his it was apparently OK...???
Would really appreciate some thoughts on this
    CHeers, Adam
    iMac C2D 2GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Is this the speed your ISP is providing or was this
something that was recommended here on these forums?
This QT setting is as recommended here in the forums
Do you have a Direct Subscriber Line (DSL) or is it
    faster?
    Yes, it's a 2Mb DSL line
Obviously you are using the built in iSight camera
and the lighting is OK. Can you try an external
    camera, possibly a firewire camcorder?
Haven't access to any other cameras...
Incidentally, I've never had to be in the DMZ but I
don't think this is going to be an A/V quality
    issue.
I wanted to establish that this wasn't related to any ports not being open or whatever. Being thorough.
    Any other ideas ?
I'm gathering strength to physically move the iMac down to the "FreeBox" (modem/router) and try the same with an Ethernet connection so as to rule out poor WiFi, but I'm not convinced about it.

  • Bluetooth / audio question

Hi Guys - i have a question which may be more related to a particular application http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=2 but seeing as no-one there seems to be able t help me (and it may in fact be a Mac, rather than 'app' related issue - I thought i'd try here)... ok, so here's my problem....
ight, I downloaded RW from Line 6 a while back (version X / Mac OSX). All was going well - great app then....(and this may be just coincidence) I tried to pair my Vaio with the Mac (unsuccessfully as it happens). After having done this, when booting up (which now takes a while) I get an alert saying
    "Bluetooth Audio Failed
There was an error connecting to your headset / ignore / stop using your headset"
Irrespective of the option I select, when RW does eventually fires up, there is no audio. I can see the app is playing OK (the master dials are registering) - but no output. Same problem even if I turn off Bluetooth on the MAC...
Any ideas guys? - I use the app for teaching and this is a real headache...

    1. Does a Bluetooth headphone set (for music only - don't need a mic for phone calls) require a Battery(s) to operate? If so, how often do you have to replace the battery(s)  say for 1 hour per day of use?
There is stereo bluetooth headsets that can be used just for audio listing but most bluetooths are made for phone handsfree use, if you want to listen to audio through bluetooth you have to verify the headset support A2DP profile for streaming audio.
    2. Anyone recommend a very good headphone set that is comfortable & great sound? Do I have to buy something specific for the DX from Verizon? Moto?  Or can I walk into any store and buy a Bluetooth Audio headphone and expect it to work? I *really* don't want to spend $150+ for decent headphones.
Basically all bluetooths can be used but it is a prefrence of what bluetooth works for you but I use Motorola H720 from http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Motorola+-+H720+Bluetooth+Headset+-+Black/9755234.p?id=1218167395767&skuId=9755234&st=bluetooth%20headset&cp=1&lp=5
    $59.99
    3. Are there any "gotchas" using Bluetooth for Audio music?  e.g., sound quality issues? interference?
Your streaming audio wirelessly and the quality can reflect this, if you want the better level of audio through a bluetooth give this a look at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+Mobile+-+Mobile+Behind-the-Head+Bluetooth+Stereo+Headphones+-+Black/9828558.p?id=1218180649134&skuId=9828558&st=bluetooth&contract_desc=null
