Poor battery life after upgrade to iOS 5. iPhone 4

How do I downgrade from iOS5 to previous versions so I can use the iPhone as my mobile for more than half a day? The battery time is only half of what it was before upgrading to iOS5 whick makes it pretty useless as a work phone

Well I've spent hours search the forum and trying diffrent solution from diffrent users without any success, so I guess there is a need for yet another thread. Have Apple communicated that they do have a major issue with iOS5 and that they are working on a fix?

  • Any iPhone 4S users experienced better battery life after upgrading to iOS 7.1?

    Hello
I am curious to know if any iPhone 4S users experienced better battery life compared to iOS 7.x.x.? That will be great to know before I upgrade and give up my JB .
    Thanks!

Really, that's quite an assertion. I'm sure you can prove those stats; but  my apologies,  I forgot that Apple produces flawless product.
I can only report MY SYMPTOMS: iPhone 4S 32M on VZW, upgrade to iOS 7.0 at the end of February (when security flaw was announced), after which my battery life is about 1/2 what it used to be before the upgrade.
Also, as reported above, when I upgraded to iOS 7.0 my phone would lock (in phone mode); had uncommanded  reboots; and severely degraded battery life.  Two days ago, upgraded to iOS 7.1.  Most screen "touch" issues appear resolved; and uncommanded reboots resolved.
Battery life / duration still poor; still charging every 4-5 hours.
Previously with  normal use (with no location services) could run a full day, about 8 hours before recharge. Now, same situations, I'm having to recharge after 4-5 hours.  Again, no new apps, all apps are current; no different usage.
    What's the resolving fix?

  • Low battery life after upgrade to iOS 4.3.1

Last weekI upgraded my iphone 4 32GB GSM to iOS 4.3.1 and noticed a huge difference in battery life. Now I hav to charge my battery 3 times in a day. Iam not a huge user and make normal calls,SMS and maybe 15mins of games in a day. Can someone tell me how to fix this other than switching off 3G, switching off push notifications etc which I hav already done without any success.

Some suggestions to helping battery life has been to reduce brightness and to turn off Ping in restrictions.

  • Why the iPhone 4 16GB drains out the battery faster after upgrading to ios 5?

Why the iPhone 4 16GB drains out the battery faster after upgrading to ios 5?

    Not sure, but try this:
Let the battery drain to below 20% (I went to about 14%).
Plug your phone in and leave it to charge COMPLETELY. This took my phone somewhere around 4 hours to complete.
When you're done, you may have better luck keeping a charge.
iOS 5 adds a lot of additional communication, and every time you connect wirelessly to anything, more power is used. Even so, some people report that a battery cycle like this helps. It seems to have worked for me.

  • Freeze/Battery issues after upgrade to iOS 8.0.2

Since upgrading my 3rd Gen iPad WiFi to iOS 8.0.2 I have been experiencing freezes where nothing works. I can't open apps or do anything. If I hold the on/off button down eventually it comes back to life.  Second issue is battery life.  Last night I closed my smart cover and made sure the display was off.  Battery at the time was 62%. This morning I opened the iPad smart cover and the battery was down too 23%.  This has happened a number of time over the past week or so. I have Blue Tooth and Location Services off.
Both of these issues are new after upgrading to iOS 8.0.2.  No problems whatsoever prior to that.
Not sure if I'm putting this in the correct category or not.
Is there a way to wipe the iPad clean and reinstall everything from scratch or is my iPad just shot?  Thanks in advance.

Same sort of issues here on my ipad3. iOS 8 turned it from a nice slick device into a jerky, laggy pain. Tried all the reset options and it's still pretty crap.
NIce one apple, I'm changing to a galaxy tab after you broke my iPad!

  • MBP 13" Aug09, lost 2 hours battery life after upgrading to SL

Hi, my Macbook Pro bought on Aug 09 lost 2 hours of battery life after an upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I brought it to the Apple service center where they checked the battery and they said that the battery has no problem.
Then, they suggest me to format my mac and reinstall Snow Leopard on a clean disk which i did without any success.
So now, my battery still hold 100% of it's original capacity (over 5450mAh) but my battery died before 3 hours with 0 program running !? (it used to last over 5.5 hours while running Leopard)
What's the matter with my battery.
And of course, i tried all the calibration before i post this topic.
If anyone can help now, it would be so great ! can't expect anything from Apple as they consider my battery as new.
    Thanks !

I too have been experiencing worse battery life.
I used to have about 3.5 hours on my now one year old Unibody MBP.
After SL (and switch from original 5400rpm to seagate momentus 7200rpm) I'm now down at about 2 hours.
    Wifi enabled
    Bluetooth enabled
    Brightness around 80%
2 hours is very little compared to the promised 5 hours.
    My battery stats:
    Health: 94%
    Cycles: 112
    Full charge: 4344mAh
Feels like I'm on an old lousy PC laptop again.

For users with battery drain problems also look at this message from me in another topic. Maybe it also helps you to find a solution to the drain problems on your iPhone. I would also suggest to read the complete blog post by a former Apple Genius bar person.

  • HOT iPhone and poor battery life after 1.14 to 2.1 firmware upgrade

I recently upgraded my Original iPhone's firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.1. I did a restore rather than a simple upgrade (backup, restore to version 2.1, restore backup).
After the restore I noticed that my battery life was terrible and that the phone would get very hot (near the top of the phone) sometimes, as if the battery was discharging very quickly. I read a few posts that suggested Push might be the culprit, so I turned Push off (I'm not using MobileMe), and this seemed to solve the problem. However...
I now notice that whenever I play Apple's Texas Holdem from the App Store or play YouTube clips the same phenomena occurs, and that nothing short of a hard reset will stop it.
Oddly, if I refrain from playing YouTube clips or playing Texas Holdem battery life is much better than before the firmware upgrade.
In short, it looks as though there is something wrong with the 2.1 firmware. I see sporadic accounts of similar behavior on the various discussion boards, so I know I'm not alone.
Is there a fix for this behavior?
    Thanks in advance...
    James

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

  • IPhone 4s heats up and drains battery quickly after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2

Last Sunday i.e. on 14-Dec-2014 i upgraded my iPhone 4S (WiFI + 3G, 64GB) to iOS 8.1.2. Since then my iPhone's battery has started to drain out abnormally fast (it doesn't even last an hour after charging it fully to 100%) and the phone even heats up simultaneously. When checked under Settings> Usage> Battery Usage, i found the app-wise usage of battery like this: Phone (Audio) 36%, WhatsApp-24%, Home & Lock Scree-17%, Settings-7%, Messages-5%, Mail-4%, TOI-2%, Conatact-2%, and rest few apps 1% each. Prior to upgrading the iOS to 8.1.2, the battery life of my iPhone was normal: i just had to recharge once in 24 hours with normal usage of the phone. Could anybody help me to fix the problem? Thanks in advance. -BBS Ijam, GTK/SKM/171214

I think iPhone 4s is oLd now we need to update our as I will have to change my battery from repair center maybe this will solve the problem the new iOS are heavy for our phones.
*** I also have extra internal battery cover for my iPhone. I can't go out without that cover because my iPhone battery drain so fast from 100% it will be maybe 60 % so fast that is so annoying.
Long story short my iPhone is screwed up I think I don't trust my iPhone battery anymore.

  • Terrible battery life after upgrading to Mountain Lion

I upgraded to mountain Lion last week and now I'm getting only less than 2 hours of battery life. is there any fixes for this issue?

Usually this means some process is using lots of CPU and hence lots of battery power.  (This certainly could happen after an upgrade if some third party software is now broken.) Have you looked at Activity Monitor (Utilities folder), All Processes, sorted by CPU?

  • Horrible battery life after upgrading to leopard

i just recently upgraded to leopard, about a week ago. ever since my battery life is horrible. after i unplug it from the power adapter i get no more than 1 hour of just surfing the internet. Is there anything i can do to see if i can resolve this problem? or is this something i need to call apple care about?

well usually it stays plugged in until the night. then i unplug it and when the battery is drained i take it and plug it back in. sometimes i take it away for not too long of a time maybe around 30 min and then i plug it back in.
This is why your battery has problems. You have been using it like the NiCads used to like being used. Li-Ion batteries will die a premature death doing this. It is best to keep it plugged in and only use the battery when you need it.
When you do use the battery there is no reason to deliberately discharge it all the way before charging it again. This will age the battery faster than normal. Li-Ion batteries prefer little charges over big ones.
There is a chance , a small one , that you might improve your batteries life and power.
First you need to do an accurate calibration. I usually time this so the battery is dead around bedtime. Then leave it unplugged and off for five hours or until you get up but a minimum of five hours. Now charge it until it is fully charged. Do not remove the power while this is happening. You can use it but keep it plugged in.
After this is done use the Macbook as needed. If you need to use it on battery that is fine. Just don't discharge it all the way unless you have no choice.
If possible I suggest using the battery for 15 minute increments then plug it back in for a few hours. Do this once or twice a day for a week or as long as you can. At the end of one month do another calibration. Then try using your MacBook as you need. Don't use it on battery unless needed. If you are near your charger plug it in.
You may see an improvement and you may not. You may have to replace the battery. If you do the following has some good info for you to keep this from happening again.
It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate. Have you calibrated your battery yet? You should calibrate every two months or so to keep the battery fully functioning. If you use your MacBook infrequently, it’s best to re-calibrate the battery at least once a month.
