Poor CD Quality When Playing or Importing

CDs that play perfectly on my hi-fi manifest noisy, garbled reproduction in iTunes.
I am using iTunes 11.1.5 (5) and an Apple Superdrive and it is only a selection of tracks from any individual CD that present the quality problem. So I am thinking there must be a software issue. When importing any problem CD it makes no difference to the quality whether AAC Encoder with Error Correction or Apple Lossless Encoder is used. Any suggestions would be appreciated ( other than buying the tracks again ).

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I have found that sometimes when I continue use of the computer for other things while burning a disc it may mess up. If I leave everything be and just dedicate computer use to the burning of the disc until it is done it will turn out just fine. But that was on my old Flat Panel iMac. I don't think it could do too many things at once.

  • Poor image quality when played from dvd just burned

I exported a FCP file from FCP using Compressor using several variations: uncompressed, compressed MPEG2 etc... brought the file into DVDSP and burned it to a DVD. when i play it from the dvd on my computer monitor it has these terrible lines and there are dropped frames occassionally. It doesnt look that way when I play it directly from DVDSP or from FCP only from the dvd. What is the problem here and how do I get a dvd whose quality matches the original?

All video brought into DVDSP for authoring is converted to the same format for DVDs, MPEG2.
Your "terrible lines" are probably interlacing artifacts. Look up interlacing in the manual. they always look worse on a computer monitor since that's a progressive display.
Stuttering can be caused by tons of oddball glitches, no way ot even start guessing from where I'm sitting.
but the whole process of going form FCP to DVDSP successfully is clearly and exhaustively explained in about 100 pages of the manuals and, yes, it really can be that complicated.

  • Poor audio quality when importing CDs (but only some of them)

I am experiencing a bizarre audio quality problem:
When playing or importing tracks from CDs into iTunes 9.0.2, on some CDs there is very poor quality and an audible crackling (like an old scratched lp)whereas on others the quality is perfect. This translates to the iPod as well.
I've looked all over the internet and am now thoroughly confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are hearing it both on iTunes playback and on the iPod, it is probably an importing problem, i.e. the track is bad.
When you import, do your Import Settings use Error Correction? If not, turn it on and re-rip one of the problem tracks.

  • Poor sound quality when using air play

How do I fix poor sound quality when using air play with my Denon receiver?

I am not too sure if this is affected by BT software stack or RF design...
iPhone 3G with FW 2.x provides Cisco VPN as well as Email support for corporate usage. However, it's weird that business man wouldn't want to use BT headset and talk to people... We are not asking about new feature support, like A2DP, but reliable, stable BT connection ONLY!!
I've read that lots folks spent a lot of money on purchasing many different BT headsets and tried to get it work with iPhone 3G. I myself tried: Plantronics 510/815/855, Sony HBH-DS970/980, Nokia BH-903. None of them can work fine with my iPhone 3G ever! And iPhone 3G even cause BH-903 and DS-980 hang up after pairing or finishing call!!
That's why I don't believe it's just a "SPECIAL CASE". How could a product FOR BUSINESS purpose get this kind of basic function problem?
I hope we will find this issue could be resolved completely with new F/W, like Safari crash problem before. Other than this BT IOT problem, iPhone 3G is really the phone/companion could provide complete solution fulfill my personal and business needs.

  • Bad quality when play mov or mp4

I want to play mov or mp4 by quicktime. In my laptop it play well but in my another computer the quality for video is very bad!
Following is the features of that computer:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    VIA C7 Processor 1500MHZ 512M RAM
Graphics card: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
I upload the screen snapshot of this problem on my blog. Please look at the following url:
    http://apolloxiao.blogspot.com/2009/11/bad-quality-when-play-mov-by-quicktime.ht ml
    Thank you very much!

My first thought was a video card driver because that will produce the streaks across the screen but usually more extreme.
Then it could be hardware related, do you know the history of the computer, as to any recent changes?
I don't really have a solution and don't want to string you along. But I swap around hardware, and me, I'd pull the video card out and make sure it's seated properly in the AGP or PCI slot on the motherboard. If it's not a on-board video card.
You seem to be showing a dual monitor set-up? If so wouldn't the primary be on the right?

  • Lockup when playing or importing songs into iTunes 7.6.1

Have anyone experienced a lockup in Windows when playing or importing songs into iTunes 7.6.1? Not sure if this is a problem of the new version or something I need to diagnose with my PC. I know alot you guys probably have MACs so I would appreciate any feedback you might be able to lend. Thanks in advance!!!

UPDATE: When all else fails reinstall everything! (without offending PC users, this is an accepted practice around here for pc software issues.....sorry). Anyway, trashing the old Spin DR and Toast Titanium and reinstalling seemed to get me going again. Sorry to bother everyone.

  • Poor photo quality when importing to iMovie

I imported some photos to make a slide show with added soundtrack. When I select a photo and click the "Show photo settings" it looks crisp and clear, just as it was shot. As soon as I deselect the "Show photo settings" button it looks blurred, pixeled and fuzzy, just an ultra low quality photo. The end result of the video slide show it's just a low end work.
I just want to burn some DVD's to show my photographic work, but such a poor photo quality it's not going to help me achieve what I had intended.
    Any clues anyone???

I'd like to follow up on your answer re: resolving poor photo quality. It seems the mere act of bringing photos into iMovie degrades the quality. You look at the photo in the preview window and it looks crisp. But then when you "ADD" it to the timeline, it becomes almost fuzzy. Isn't iMovie rendering the photos then and there as you bring them into the timeline? I cannot seem to make the photos look sharper and it doesn't seem to help doing the slideshow first in iPhoto, which I'd rather not do anyway.
    Any suggestions?

  • Poor audio quality when importing. Help?

    Hello, everyone!
I have been having trouble importing videos recently, as it sounds good when played outside of premiere, but as soon as I import it into the program, the audio loses 70, maybe 80% of its quality immediately.
The video format is AVI and the audio qualiy is 128kbps, 2 stereo channels, at a 44kHz audio sampling rate.
The video (don't know if this matters, but can't hurt) has a data rate of 200kbps, 328 bits @ 29FPS.
I've tried everything in order to match the project pre-definitions and the sound input, with no success at all. It always sounds bad and I don't know what to do anymore.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it says in the properties "2 stereo channels" but Premiere seems to identify it as mono for some reason. Tried creating mono and stereo projects, didn't help.

  • Poor Image Quality when Printing PDF from Office 07 using Acrobat 9 Pro Ext

    Hi there,
Hoping to figure out why my images (jpegs, gifs, pngs, etc) seem to print in very poor quality when printing from Powerpoint and Word 2007?
When I actually print out the pdf onto paper, the images seem fine. The image quality is also good in Word and Excel
I did not have this problem using Office 2003 products.
Is this a common problem? I realize that the problem maybe Office related but any help or information appreciated.
    Thanks

If the images' file format is PNG or TIFF you could play with the compression settings available in Acrobat's Preferences.
Edit > Preferences > select the Category "Convert to PDF".
In the"Converting To PDF" pane, select PNG or TIFF.
Then, click on the Edit Settings" button.
For either image format you could try one of the Lossless compression routines.
    Be well...

  • Poor photo quality when exporting iPhoto slideshow

Does anyone know which setting produces the best quality for an mp4 when creating a DVD using iDVD? I put a slideshow together using iPhoto because I wanted to use the iPhoto scrapbook theme. I exported the iPhoto slideshow using the highest quality (standard display setting) which produces an mp4 1422 x 800 (H.264, 30 fps, 7 Mbps, ~907 MB).
    The iDVD project settings are:
    1) Best Performance
    2) High Quality
    3) Professional Quality
What doesn't make sense to me is that #1 claims to produce a total ~1GB DVD with a 995 MB movie and shows the Quality level as green.
When selecting #2, the claim is a total ~643 DVD with a 575 MB movie with Quality in the red.
When choosing #3, the numbers stay the same as #2 but the Quality goes to yellow.
Why wouldn't the higher quality settings produce a larger DVD with less compression? Which setting really gives the highest quality?
The default is #1 (Best Performance) which clearly produces the lowest quality video when compared to the mp4 export from iPhoto (appeared with a higher quality) and when compared with playing the slideshow directly in iPhoto (appeared with the highest quality).
Would the quality be any higher if I export the iPhoto slideshow using a customized setting? iPhoto custom settings allow the choice of about 10 different compression types from Animation, Apple Intermediate Codec, to DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, to H.264, to MPEG-4 Video, to None (and others not listed here). The frame Rate can also be adjusted from Current (whatever that means), to 8, to 60. The Compressor Quality can be adjusted from Least to Best. Would "None" as the compression type produce the best quality when producing the iDVD?
The ultimate goal is to display the slideshow on the project at my church. The easiest way to do this is to put it on a DVD. But as described above, the quality decrease from iPhoto direct play of the slideshow is noticeable when moving to the .mp4 and extremely noticeable when putting the .mp4 in iDVD and playing the DVD back.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or links to better documentation.

you just cannot export your slideshows in order to burn DVDs, with the same quality
That's an issue with iDVD and the DVD standards. All DVD media is downsized to 640 x 480 or the wide screen 720 x 480. It's the nature of DVDs, not iPhoto. If you use the Ken Burns effect in iPhoto you will need to use the largest 4:3 ratio images possible so the zoom and scan of the KB effect is working on the most number of pixels possible.
I've found that the best final image resolution is obtained by creating the slideshow in iDVD from stills imported from iPhoto at the 4:3 size ratio. The downside to that method is no KB effect and only one transition per slideshow. I play those types of slideshows on a 50" 1020p HD Panasonic plasma TV and the images are quite good. But good is in the eye of the beholder.
See Jim Symon's post in this iDVD topic: Re: High-definition DVDs. Also search his other posts as he was working out a workflow using Photo to Movie to create high def movies and burn them with iDVD. As I recall he found and posted his workflow at one time.

  • Some of my WMA files have poor sound quality when transferred to my

I just got the 60 GB Zen and have been busy loading it up with my music. I have all my CDs ripped onto my computer in WMA format and have been transferring them to the MP3 player. The strange thing is that some of the CDs transferred with very poor quality and others are fine. They all sound great when played off the computer. There is no pattern to which ones sound scratchy and slow (some were ripped from actual CDs and others were burned copies). Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do to fix it's Thanks for your help.

I think all of the CDs were accidentally ripped with the protections on. I will try again without and see if that fizes anything. I will let you know how it works out.

  • Has anyone had issues with poor image quality when using lightroom to process raw images from Canon 7dmk2

    Hi everyone..
..I have been having image quality issues when using Lightroom to process raw files from a 7d mk2... They are all soft with poor clarity.....tonight in despair I tried processing them  using  canon's software and they are totally different..."much better"
    anyone else had similar problems....Andy

I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like?  Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

  • Itunes skip through songs when playing or importing CDs

I have been using itunes for a while without problems. I recently upgraded to v7.1. When I now try to play or import CDs, the program quickly skips through the songs, but does not actually play or import anything. If I try to play the CD through another program, it works just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be going wrong? Thanks!

I agree with Dave - reinstall or update your drivers. If you need some directions on that, start here

  • Terrible quality when playing MIDI files on Mac. How to solve it?

In the darkest corners of my hard drive, amidst the dark and malicious Mac OS X conspiracy...Um, well, not exactly. In my Documents folder, I found a MIDI sound named "PINBALL.mid". Fine. I played it on Quicktime 7, when terrible quality surrounded my ears. What an horror! Does anyone knows what app should I use? Or what I should do?
P.S.1: VLC player does not want to play the MIDI sound.

Rereading your first post you based the midi quality on playing something called PINBALL.mid.  I'm guessing it's for a game.  So why would you expect the quality of that one "song" to be very high in the first place?
FWIW, IMO, the built in midi quality has never been that good on apple machines.  When I went through my "midi phase" many years ago, when Blue&White G3's were the current desktops, I actually used a high quality external midi player (Yamaha, but I don't recall the model at the moment) that played through the serial port.  It was, IMO, high quality.  For $400 it had better be!

  • Really poor image quality when watching DVDs

    Hi,
I was just wondering whether anybody else has experienced really poor image quality whilst watching DVDs on their MacBook? For me, the image is really grainy or blurry. I am pretty sure it cannot be the DVDs as this problem is happening with every film I watch!
Is this a common problem? What can be done (if anything) to resolve this?
    Many thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
open system preference>display, and check if your color depth is in millions color.
try other dvd player like VLC for mac:
