Poor download speed - 370 Kbps

Hi
We have been away from home for over two weeks.  We returned home last two days, the Internet speed dropped significantly.  My usual speed around 3MB in the past.  Note we didn't switch off the modem during that 2 weeks.
Called "150" and spoke to an overseas call centre staff.  She said she is resetting my profile and taking over 4 days.  However she said I should get immediately improved speed.  I don't think this is happening. Here is my latest test result:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 370 Kbps For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps. Additional Information: Your DSL Connection Rate :4208 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 588 Kbps(UP-STREAM) IP Profile for your line is - 3712 Kbps

Please advise and thanks in advance.

are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
even if you hub was connected 24/7 when you were away there is no telling if there was one or numerous drops in connection.  only thing you could say if you checked then connection time was when last disconnection happened.  your connection time at present is < 2hrs

  • Poor Download speeds in the evening, What can be d...

    Hi All,
This question has probably been answered a million times so my apologys if it has. I tried downloading something last night and my download speeds were absolutely **bleep**, something like 4.3kbs a second!!!!!!
Now am I right in thinking that this is BT's stupid throttling occuring to me. In the day I get awesome speeds and have no issues at all.
On Sky BB I never had any issues at anytime and got around 6.5mb download speeds and my sync speed was 7.5mb. I ran a speed test last night and was getting the speed quoted what I pay for!? Can someone help me with this!?
    Thanks
    Steve

I take it your talking about P2P/torrents, heavily traffic managed by BT.

You can type p2p or torrents into the search box to find plenty of posts on this.

  • Airport Express 802.11n very poor download speed...

I don't know what happened. But for some reason my download speed has taken a huge dive down to under 1Mbps I've tried resetting and going through the wizard for setting up the Airport Express. Still the same thing. I can take the Ethernet cable plugged into the Airport Express and plug it directly into my MBP Ethernet port and here are the results.
    http://www.pacificside.com/ethernet.png
(Download Speed 46.205 Mpbs, Upload Speed 21.03 Mbps)
I'll take that same cable and plug it back into the Airport Express and this is what I get.

    AirPort Express Version 7.3.2
    Mac OS X (10.5.4)
    AirPort Utility Version 5.3.2 (532.8)
Has anybody experienced this situation and how was it resolved???
    Please help!
    Thank you...

Go to http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1547 and download the version for Windows 7 - when the yellow bar comes up at the bottm of the screen choose "save as" and save the installation file to the desktop - then go to the desktop and double-click on the Airport Utility icon and follow the installation instructions - once it is installed, follow the instructions in the Aiport Express manual for the type of setup that you want - it should walk you through it  - just answer the questions and enter the necessary info - WPA2 personal security is recommended - if you have any problems, let me know.

  • Very poor download speeds on MBP Retina

I'm getting extremely slow download speeds on my Mac. It doesn't matter if I'm on WiFi or Ethernet, at home or at the office (both have very fast Internet), or what website I'm downloading from. I consistently get less than ~1Mb down.
    I have a 13" MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013) w/ 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.  Running 10.9.5.
Does anyone have any tips or things I can try? This is beyond frustrating!
    Thank you all for reading.

  • Poor download speed

I installed my infinity package yesterday im only getting a download speed of about 1.2 mbs, can anyone help?

My cabinet is 3/10 mile away as the crow flies, and the copper cable is many years old, the telegraph pole outside my house in the cul de sac has been up for many years now (and the cables from the pole to my house have never been changed). OMFG I dread to think how old actually considering the state of the attached wiring to the underside of my eaves, it looks like it was screwed on in Victorian times.
BT send an engineer to you to connect some box to your pc, and someone has worked on a green cabinet, but outside your house will be wiring that was put up by the post office when they owned BT as a nationalised industry, it looks that old.
The 3/10 mile distance is probably way longer in reality and all the way along the streets to me the cabling is joined together here and there (it is not one long continuous wire).
Next up, there is one decent sized housing estate being supplied by that cabinet, many hundreds of homes, and lots are connected to BT and run multiple wireless and wired devices all the time, and especially after school and evening times, what with xboxes and the likes all playing WOW and on youtube n whatever. Each and every one feeding off a limited supply of broadband being fed to that cabinet from the exchange, and for every one that switches on, the average going round drops.
If like me you are right at the rear end of the queue for bandwidth you are probably getting a tiny fraction of any bandwidth being promised, and at peak times as all these xboxes are being switched on your bandwidth does as mine does and drops to kilobytes per second, it gets that bad I lose webpages altogether. I have problems on firefox or explorer getting a homepage to load even at peak times.
Consider a lorry in a place throwing out rice to starving people, the guys are throwing out the stuff but the front keeps taking most of it and the ones right at the back are getting the least.
Solution.... switch to a provider who supplies fibre to your living room and not to your area, move to a house right beside a cabinet, don't listen to the people on here (who are NOT BT EMPLOYEES but other customers) who cannot solve this problem but only pay lip service, or do as I am doing, and wait until the contract expires and changing to my first solution above.
    Lastly, consider these points ...
I upgraded to Infinity 2 last July and have NEVER had speeds over 3 mb/sec download, my pc is hard wired to my home hub 3 box (and runs on windows 8 with 4 Gig dual ddr3 ram on an AMD Phenom 2 X2 chip) even though I was told min 25 mb/sec, and the old phone sex lie about "up to 75 mb/sec". It's done over the phone cos eye contact would immediately detect a bare faced lie.
I have complained over the phone many times and been fed all the nonsense I never even thought was possible, one Indian even told me to hang up, switch off my phone for 2 hours and my speeds would immediately be doubled to 50 mb/sec. 2 hours later, same old shoite service. I have now complained by email and am waiting for a follow up but am not holding my breath.
If you are still in the cancellation contract period, do it!

  • EA2700 poor download speed

    Hi all,
I have tried all the speed test sites and tried downloads with and without my EA2700. Every test shows about half the perfomance when connected through the router. My speed tests at speedtest.net with a direct connection are in the 21-26Mbps range, the same tests run about a minute later through the EA2700 fall in the 10-12Mbps range with spikes up to 17Mbps.
    Things I've tried:
I've reset the router and modem.
I've gone back to the 1.0.14.129982 Firmware (which it's currently on)
I've set the MTU everywhere from 1400 to 1500 (literally EVERY setting for at least a couple of hours) it is 1492 currently
None of these have helped. In addition, when a large stream starts, such as a Steam download, I will lose ALL connectivity. Going in to Network and Sharing and clicking to connect to the internet restores the connection, no need to reset any hardware (which is odd in itself). I have had MANY routers over the years and I've all but exhausted support with service provider as the connection is solid if I eliminate the router.
Main machine is a Windows 7 Home edition
Total of 5 machines, 3 of which see regular use
All machines go through a Trendnet 16 port switch and performance is the same direct or through the switch
I m on Brighthouse in Central Florida and have all but exhausted their support.
Thank you, in advance, for your assistance!

OK so now I've narrowed it down.  I went back returned the EA2700 and purchased a EA6400.  Still no go.  So the cheapest router from linksys E1200 to the EA2700 mid line, and then the EA6400 Higher end.  From $54.00 -$164.00  yet all of tehir routers fail to meet anywhere near their specs.  I literally have a 10 year old DLink that is more consistant and is fa230ster.
I gave up and purchases a Netgear router and low and behold it performs as advertised.  I got a N300 $44.00 Doing 54Mbps where the E1200 could maybe do 22Mbps.  Ethernet side both performed at full speed, 94-98Mbps.
EA2700 was the opposite, and I didn;t purchase a mid line Netgear to compare but I am comfident it would outperform the Linksys since it was revesre issue of the cheaper Linksys.  This one EA2700 would do 17-18Mbps wifi and ONLY 26Mbps MAX on ethernet.  Pitiful!
The EA6400 Was the worst.  Over $150 US and still, 22Mbps wifi with 54Mbps over ethernet.  You gotta be F***ing kidding me. What happened to gigabit LAN?  What happened to consistant quality control?  What about truth in sales?  CISCO you suck!
The Netgear RC6250 is a bada$$ router.  Right out the gate, wifi at 150Mbps across the house and with my bedside fan running.  No specialconfiguration needed.  Turning off QOS in wifi and WMM resulted in another huge gain in wifi performance.  And LAN speeds were full speed.  And why shouldn't they be? How exactly do you screw up Gigabit ethernet.  It either is or it isn't.
    I'm done with Cisco/ Linsys.
Alcatel Lucent on business class and netgear on SOHO from now on.

  • New Infinity 2 poor real life download speeds

    Hi
I'm hoping someone can help. I had infinity 2 installed on Tuesday and have had poor download speeds since. Now I use mainly iPads and iPhones for connecting to the internet.
My connection downstream on my modem says I'm connected at 78.12 Mbps however I can stand right next to it and try download something from sky go and this downloads at 11-12mbps. This doesn't seem right to me however as it is wireless devices the BT help centre will not help me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you sure that it is your speeds that are slow or are you possibly confusing your Megabyte (MB) with Megabit (Mb)
A Megabyte (used for file size) and a Megabit (used for download speeds). People often assume that a download speed of 1 Megabit per second (1 Mbps) will allow them to download a 1 Megabyte file in one second. This is not the case, a Megabit is 1/8 as big as a Megabyte, meaning that to download a 1MB file in 1 second you would need a connection of 8Mbps. Most downloads are shown as MB/s
If this is not the problem can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection for an accurate reading.

  • IOS8 download speed (or lack of!)?

I have been downloading iOS8 today for my iPad Mini, so far it has taken well over 6 hours and I am told (via iTunes) that I have at least another 3hours to go!  The iTunes' servers have been crawling along at just a few dozen kb/s;  I know my internet connection is not at fault as I have a super fast connection.
Downloading iOS8 yesterday for my iPhone took a while, but not THIS long!  My questions are:
Is anyone else getting such a poor download speed for iOS8?  (Think I already know the answer!...)
Why are the Apple iTunes servers so slow?
Why do we have to download iOS8 for each device?
Has Apple done anything to restrict the downloads or is it just a major '****-up'?
Any help on making this download fast much appreciated too!
PS: There seems to be no iOS or iOS8 Community to post to....odd!?... or has it been removed?  The iTunes for Mac seems to be the best alternative I can find.

    Hi Tigger88,
My Software Update check almost always takes about a little over 60 seconds... all of a sudden... meaning today, it takes a full four, count 'em four minutes!
And I'm not updating anything; I'm just checking! Thank God I don't have to actually download anything.
    Best Regards,
    mm

  • Observed download speed vs speed checkers

    Hello everyone,
I am a new BT Unlimited Broadband customer, though I am not new to broadband nor the technical side of the internet. I have been using a BT Home Hub 4 for around a month now without disconnection problems.
We live in a new build area and thus Infinity is not available to us at the moment. Our estimated (by BT) and reported (by various speed checkers, including BT's own two) download speed is 7 - 10Mbps, usually around 8. The Home Hub reports 10.x Mbps for download.
In contrast, our observed download speed (as tested using various large sample files across several protocols) is actually consistently 1Mbps.
I'd like to draw on the collective wisdom of forum contributors and ask for advice on the following question:
Can you think of any practical reasons, assuming ideal conditions on my end, why our actual download speed would be so much less than the reported download speed?
    Thanks

  • SLOW inconsistent download speeds

    OK here's my story.
Currently paying 25 download/25 upload on my internet. Past few days noticed some lag on my
internet activity, ran speed tests on different sites and most numbers were similar and that I was getting
around 1-5mb download/ around 20 upload. But when I check Verizon's speed tests. IM getting an
amazing 30mps/30mps which IM sure is not the case.
called verizon. they said they dont see any problems at their end. did the basic troubleshooting. and reached
to the point that a new router could be the solution. got a new router. got a new IP. plugged it in and still
NO changes to my connections. Is anyone else having this problem? I have given up on verizon support. and if i cant
get solutions here. i think Optimum online is my next option.
I am in new york btw.

the way my internet is acting i dont think verizon speed tests which  is saying 30mps download /30mps upload is accurate. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and http://www.speedtest.net/ are all showing low download speeds. around 1-5 mps download/20mps upload. netflix also is not streaming in HD. streams are laggy. and this test results are similar with my other laptops/pc.
    Your Speed Result:
Download Speed: 2746 kbps (343.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 20907 kbps (2613.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Like I said above, it's not just you. Tons of people have been complaining about this for about two months now. It's getting old real fast.

My Downstream is over 6000kbps yet my i'm only achieving 200kbps download speed. Why is my IP profile so low?
    Thanks

Probably because of 1 of maybe 3 reasons ...
Either you have been resetting the hub to get a better speed ...
Or the hub has been resetting itself, because of a line or excessive error faults.....
Or ... your connection may have been affected by the recent network problems ... possibly to do with
either metro node or BRAS failure ... and not anybody's fault.
The best thing you can do, is leave it connected, uninterrupted, and it should resurrect itself ...
but it may take a day or 3 .....
You do have loss of signal errors .... has it been disconnecting?

  • Very high Latency and inconsistent download speeds

    Hi all,
This is my first time on these forums and hopefully i can find some help for my horrible problem.
For the last 2-3 weeks my latency has consistently been 200+, i like to play online games alot and i cant with this latency. I have gone threw the whole drill of ringing BT and following there advice and i even had a BT engineer come out and he couldnt' find any problems. BT said they checked my line and couldn't find anything wrong, and the engineer didn't find any problems with the router (black).
I also have changed all of the wiring from the socket in the wall, which leads to the router, which leaders to a modem (i think its called that) that then connects me to the internet (Cable).
I am running out of patience as i spend alot of time on games such as Call of Duty and seeing my mates play it as i have 300+ ping is really annoying.
I Have noticed that the other computer my parents use also have the same high latency issue and they have tried it on cable and wireless with the same bad results. I have a program called xfire which shows my ping for all the servers on my list and there all 200+ but sometimes when i test my speeds on speedtest.net it shows me with 50 ping i believe this is due to the large spikes that i get, when im on call of duty it constantly jumps around 100, 150, 200 and sometimes even 50.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Josh.
Also im not very good with computers so if anyone would like any figures or whatever just point me to the website and ill try and get them for you.

This looks ok but on xfire all the servers are at 300+ and when i go ingame there just as high.

  • Big drop in download speeds

    Hi and help me please.
Two days ago the broadband became so slow is was impossible to even load an Internet page.
I rang the bt help desk yesterday and after replacing an adsl filter and moving the hub to the main phone line in I seemed to have my usual connection back.
I have come to use the Internet again today and the speeds have dropped massively again. And is becoming very intermittent with its speeds mostly being under .5mb/s.
ranging from .019 to 17.8mb/s download speeds, the upload speeds have been fairly constant at 0.8 - 0.95mb/s

  • E1200 router: very slow download speeds, ok uploady got

I recently set up a new E1200 router to replace my old one. We are having problems with very slow download speeds (often <0.10 Mbps) even while the upload speeds are OK (8-10 Mbps). Our previous download speed over wifi was 10-15 Mbps.
When I first set it up, the download speed was very poor on the initial computer. After fooling around, it was fine. I don't know what I did that made it speed up. However, my wife's computer has had very poor download speeds. After rebooting my computer, the download speed has also dropped bak to <0.10. I was able to stream Hulu on my Wii just fine an hour ago.
    What could the problem be?

So we could have this isolated, check how much speed you’re getting straight to the modem so we’ll have some point of comparison that from your internet provider. If through the router, you have struggles with not getting an acceptable value for download speed especially if it only happens with the wireless connection, you can try these: change the wireless channel and the wireless security on the router. If on the router, you have the channel set to auto by default change it to (3,6,9,11), just have to play around with it. Moreover, for the wireless security, select WPA2 Personal. If that doesn’t make any difference, update the firmware of the router, reset and have it reconfigured.
