Poor image quality display with low resolution on websites

I have just upgraded to the new Firefox browser 32.0.3
Since upgrading I have noticed a severe degradation in image viewing on websites. Images on websites are poor quality and pixelated, as if I were surfing on a slow connection.
We have fibre optic broadband with DL speeds generally of around 70mbps so that can't be the problem! I have also tested on other browsers and the images appear fine and clear.
I am currently on an iMac 27" with OS 10.9.5

Hello wildfirepro, any luck if you disable graphics hardware acceleration ?
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Preferences'' window as follows:
#* Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Preferences'' on your Mac.
#In the Firefox Preferences window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Poor image quality with save for web

It doesn't matter whether i'm exporting from Ai or Ps or whether it's CS6 or CC. I have changed the raster settings in Ai and i've also tried all optimization options with all different export file types (jpg, png, gif) at all different quality settings. It doesn't matter if I start with an ai, eps, pdf, png... the export result is always poor quality.
I have tried exporting at 300ppi and that does fix the quality issue and bloats the file size, but this way (the export route) is so time consuming since you have to resize your artwork each time as well as the artboard so that it doesn't cut off pixels. Save for web never used to have these quality issues and it also never used to cut off pixels around the edges. These workarounds prove very time consuming and produce file sizes that are not ideal.

I thought of that too so I tested on another machine with retina display and the file i saved on my machine looked bad on my machine and on the other comparable machine/display. So I sent them the original vector ai file and watched while they saved it the exact same way on their machine and the file looked fine on both of our machines/displays.
All of the settings they used appeared the same as what I used but with different results. I don't recall changing anything but does anyone know if there is some setting that could have been changed that is causing this issue?

I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like? Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

Really poor image quality when watching DVDs

Hi,
I was just wondering whether anybody else has experienced really poor image quality whilst watching DVDs on their MacBook? For me, the image is really grainy or blurry. I am pretty sure it cannot be the DVDs as this problem is happening with every film I watch!
Is this a common problem? What can be done (if anything) to resolve this?

open system preference>display, and check if your color depth is in millions color.
try other dvd player like VLC for mac:

Aperture Light Table - Poor image quality

I am using the Light Table function in Aperture (3.4.5.) and I had an issue with the quality of the images on it, when zoomed in or scaled to fit.
The quality of the (larger spread) images looks poor. As if I zoomed in on a thumbnail.
I was looking for a discussion on this and saw some (archived) threads. None of them solved.
However, I think I have found a workaround.
If you get this situation, you can select the image(s) on the light table and regenerate the preview.
Option-click Menu => Photos => Generate Previews
(note: if you don't use the Option key, you will get Menu => Photos => Update Previews and Aperture may say (unjust) that the preview is already up-to-date).
That solves the poor image quality look.

I just remade the same book - as a test - in the extra large hardback format (ie. the one I used for the previous publication, last year).
This time, the pictures are fine. The images appear to be the same quality in the PDF as the originals - much, much better. The size of the file has increased massively too > up from just 2.6MB to 52.8MB.
So does the books production function work well only with the biggest, most expensive option?
I'd really appreciate some feedback from anyone who's tried the different sizes, and preferably some brilliant ideas to make them all work equally well.

Everything I have read says that you kind of have to compromise file-size for quality. Could you post a screenshot of your settings?

Poor Image Quality on Finished Project

I've seen similar questions before, but no responses. I put together a movie using still pictures, titles, and audio from iTunes using iMovie. I then export it to a .m4v format and import it into iDVD (the newest version). It looks perfect when I view it on my computer, but when I burn it (which works as it should), I get very poor image quality watching it on my TV. The images have red shadows that stretch and cover the faces. Some of the pictures are just more red than they should be, but others are just terrible. Even using the highest quality encoding, the problem persists. PLEASE HELP. Thank you.

(File menu and down "Make a DiskImage")

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)

I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !

HT201335 Airplay Mirror Poor Image Quality on CBS app - help?

Airplay mirror from iMac/iPad to HD TV w/Apple TV has a Poor Image Quality when watching network shows via for example the CBS.com site or the CBS app. The image looks dark, not HD at all. My internet speed/performance is obviously not the issue because Hulu, Netflix etc all come in great using Apple TV ~ sorry, not all that savvy in this department, is the poor picture down to it just being a mirror of the iMac or iPad or is there a setting or something I am missing?

You should use the Acrobat extra menu in word 2010: then edit Preferences and choose Conversion settings : High quality print

Duplicating stream object to new stream with lower resolution

Hi all generally I have a question, Is it possible for ams to split my original live stream to a new stream but with lower resolution, so i have two streams one with high resolution and one with low resolution?
If not I how does it Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder do? I can steam up to 3 different resolutions from one camera object. Is it possible to do also from flash?
I want to built a multi user conference application. But have some cpu usage issues, so I need a additional lower resolution stream to use for the miniature views.
Could You help me with this, any tips how could I do such a thing?
I using rtmp protocol to communicat and adobe media server 5.

Web graphics / images display in low resolution on any web browser

Hi everyone.
This issue has had me stumped for a few months now. I never noticed this issue with Snow Leopard but now with Lion I have noticed that web graphics display at a significantly lower resolution. I switch between Google Chrome and Safari and the issue is present on both browsers.
Basically any website with graphics, or images will be pixelated and lacking in fine detail. It is painfully obvious when browsing sites like Flickr and 500px. In these cases, my own personal images look terrible online, but look absolutely normal in my Lightroom library, so I know it's not a strange display issue on my Mac.
I'm just curious if anyone has had a similar issue, and if you have figured out how to resolve it.

i have the same issue with safari on my mac. i'm not sure if i have snow leopard or not. all i know is i am on a G4 with mac os 10.5.8 and have safari 5.0.1. last week, i could not watch certain video clips online, because {as it stated in my browser where the video should be} i did not have the most recent flash player. but when i went to download the most recent version, it told me it would not work on a power pc mac. so i researched and found out i had to use the flash 10.1.102.64 player... it's the most recent version that will work on a power pc mac. so i uninstalled the flash player i had on my mac and installed this player. all well and good... now i can see the videos.
but what's not well and good is that i no longer have hi-res images in my browser. all images are pixelated and unclear. i posted on the adobe forum to see if i could get an answer as to why.
here was my post/inquiry...
"I recently upgraded my Flash Player so that I could view internet content (such as videos) that were not available to me before I upgraded. Ever since, the images on most web sites that I visit are now pixelated (look very low-resolution). I had not made any other changes to any settings on my computer or software. The browser I use is Safari 5.0.1. I had to upgrade to the Flash Player 10.1.102.64 because I am on a PowerPC Mac G4, and that is the most recent version of Flash Player that will work with Power PCs.
Anyway, now that I have upgraded (which included first uninstalling the old Flash Player), my images look pixelated... most do, anyway. For some reason images I post to flickr appear okay on screen. But normal 72dpi images on standard web sites (like Yahoo) appear very lo-res.
Does this have to do with whether or not my Mac's operating system is 64-bit or 32-bit... or the Safari software... in relation to the Flash Player's... whether or not they are compatible? If not, I have no idea why this would have changed since upgrading my Flash Player. And if so, what can I do to get around it? I'm somewhat computer savvy... but not this much. Can someone please help me so that I don't have to pay $39 to call Support and ask them?"

Duplicate Image object in PDF file with low resolution

Hi all,
On creating images in bitmap mode using illustrator into eps format and convert the eps file into pdf using acrobat distiller.
On pdf file its showing two objects in the content panel with one object present in low resolution other one same as its original.
It will not happen in direct pdf from illustrator
Please anyone help on this.
Note: It will not happen in grayscale mode.

Hard to follow what you are experiencing, can you post screenshots?
You may want to experimnent with your .eps settings, especially preview & inlcude linked files since you have duplicate images.

Poor image quality after burning with idvd

I used Final Cut Express to make a 45min movie. When I preview the finished product as a Quicktime file it looks great. BUT when I burn it with idvd, the quality of the video is terrible! Jagged diagonal lines, some color loss, some dancing pixels,...
I have been trying to find the solution to this problem for days on end, I have burned about 20 dvd's now, all in different settings and so on, but the quality is not improved.
First I thought it was my tv, but then I put the dvd in my mac and compared the same scene from my quicktime file with the scene on the dvd, and the difference in quality is staggering! For instance, diagonal white road markings are crisp on the quicktime file, but jagged on the dvd.
What is idvd doing with my movie????? Help me!

My Final Cut Express movie (.mov file) is crisp, and interlaced.
You are missing the point - your CRISP FCE movie is mpg-2 compressed by iDVD - that's what DVDs are - mpg-2 compressed video content. Unfortunately, mpg-2 is a very low quality CODEC compared to modern CODECs like h.264.
The best image quality out of iDVD will result in using the 'Best Performance' mode of encoding - this requires your content be under 60 minutes for a single-layer disc.
'Best Performance' encoding uses fixed bit-rate encoding that produces a DVD with about as high playback bit-rate as can be supported by set-top DVD players.
You have three choices: (1) live with the mpg-2 compression on a DVD because you can't do anything about it, (2) use the h.264 CODEC out of FCE and create a data DVD with the file that can be played back in computers, (3) make a Blu-ray disc if you have the equipment and buy the software.

Poor Image Quality In FCE With Photoshop Imports

I'm using scans created in Photoshop in my current FCE project, and am extremely disappointed with the image quality. All scans are 72 pixels/inch, 720x534 pixels (changed to 720x480 for import), sharpened with Unsharp Mask. In Photoshop, they look terrific. Imported into FCE and viewed in the viewer, they look terrific. When dropped onto the canvas to add to the timeline, suddenly they look like crap. The sharpness is gone, the edges are pixelated, and most are rendered unusable. What happened? Can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Really!? I'm surprised, as those numbers come from the Apple Pro Training Series book on FCE. But ok, I'll redo my images at 720x540. I should still make a version at 720x480 for import, to avoid "squeezing" the image, right? Should I avoid sharpening the image at all, or just cut back on the amount (or does this depend on the image)? When you say "the canvas is a reduced display output," do you mean that this reflects the compression that occurs with the DV format? Thanks, Tom, for your help.

Poor image quality when scanning coins with officejet pro 8600 plus

I recently upgraded my printer from an HP 2210 to and HP officejet pro 8600 plus. image quality on coin scans is terrible.
I have tried scanning both with the HP software and with windows 7 fax and scan software
I have saved images as BMP, JPG, PNG, and TIFF
I have used resolutions from 300 dpi to 1200 DPI
All give me similar unacceptable results.
Images are better when scanned flat on the scanner than when in slabbed holders, and from this I am guessing that the plastic is somehow interfering wiht the scan. Either that, or there is a very shallow depth of field so that even moving the coin a few mm away from the glass moves it out of focus. But even a raw coin placed directly on the glass has significantly worse image quality than the old 2100.
The first image is a coin scanned with the old 2100. The second has been scanned in a similar slab by the 8600

Welcome to the HP Forums! I am happy to help you with this scanning issue! I did a test with an HP Officejet 8600, at 1200 dpi, and no plastic covering. Just the quarter on the glass, and we cropped it to the quarter. This is the result.
I have a few questions for you:
What Operating System are you using for scanning? Windows or Mac? What version?
What scanning software are you using?
Are you scanning from the computer, or the printer's control panel?

Poor image quality when displaying OLE Word object in PDF

MS Word 2007 OLE object in Crystal Reports XII R2 designer...looks OK in designer. When we export to PDF, the image quality has been degraded significantly. Anybody had this issue before? tried replacing usp10.dll with one found in CommonFiles folder, that did not help.
