Poor MTA reputation due to neighbors in /24 block

Good day,
I have sent an email to [email protected], without any response (including of the automated kind).
I basically have 2 small IP blocks:
a primary /32 block (any traffic originating from the server appears to come from this IP)
a secondary /29 block that is routed to the /32
My MTA has a poor reputation, but it is not clearly indicated WHY.   I have been with the current colocation services for about 3 years, and I have had issues sending mail since.  In that time, my servers have never been blacklisted (as far as I can tell) on the various RBLs out there.  At the previous colocation facility that I used for 5 years, I never had any issues.
I have aggressive DKIM and SPF records, rDNS setup setup for my main domains.
All I can surmise is some of the IPs in the /24 my main block is part of have poor ratings, which is impacting me negatively.
I just don't know what else I can do to make things better.
Thanks
Jason

  • Poor mta reputation

    Hello,
    All of a sudden many emails I'm trying to send from my .me address (mobile me account) are being bounced back saying "Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation."
    How can I fix this??  It's a pressing problem, so any help is greatly appreciated.  I couldn't find a mail forum, so if there's a better place to post this let me know.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Poor SenderBase Reputation Score

    Hi, I've recently migrated datacentre and changed my public IP of my online forum.  After that, I've noticed a significant number of e-mails getting bonced back from a host, which happens to have a significant of my members.  The reason was due to a poor SBRS rating.  However, I am unable to determine why this is the case as the domain sends nothing but e-mail notifications of forum replies.  Public relay has been turned off.
    Can someone point me to the a right direction to find out the actual cause of this?

    Hi Steven,
    sorry for not getting back to you earlier.
    In general, I would like to encourage you to get in touch with customer support if you are experiencing issues with your Senderbase score. I just checked your current repoutation and the score is back to neutral at this time. Since the score has already changed again, I unfortuntaley cannot 100% confirm if your decreased score was in fact related to the issue referenced by Peter. That said, given the timing and your location, it is in fact likely.
    Now, to provide a statement regarding the issues referenced in the IT News article.
    The war against spam requires a daily battle with spammers and purveyors of malicious content. Cisco maintains the world’s most trusted and effective mail security technology through constant research and development, accompanied by constant measurement of results.
    Tuesday morning PDT, Cisco became aware of an issue that resulted in Cisco email security products blocking some legitimate email senders. This was the result of recent algorithm updates that focused on newly identified Internet traffic behaviors indicating spam activity. Unfortunately, this traffic behavior is also seen in some legitimate email activity, resulting in the inaccurate blocks.
    Upon learning of the issue, Cisco immediately implemented algorithm changes, fully resolving the issues by Tuesday evening PDT. Cisco security specialists are continuing to closely monitor the situation, to ensure no further impact to service.  Cisco is also enhancing monitoring procedures to more quickly identify any negative impacts of new rules in the future.

  • The Comcast "Poor Service" reputation is well earned!

    I switched from FIOS to Comcast X1 in June (installed on the 9th) in order to take $20 off my monthly bill.  After the install the tech called in a request while standing in my living room to have the new cable burried.  Note: The cable runs across a large common area that is maintained by the commnunity.   After two weeks without any sign of the utility lines being marked I called Comcast to check on the cause for the delay.  Nothing, they had no ticket open to put the line underground.   Now nearly another two weeks have passed and I still don't have any sign of progress (in VA the lines are marked without a few days of a request to "Miss Utility").    So I have a great product (X1 DVR), but FIOS keeps sending "What can we do to get you back?" emails.  It is clear that Verizon will do what it takes while Comcast can't find the time to finish the job of winning a customer.    Is normal or has my case been handled by a few disgruntled Comcast employees?

  • Senderbase Reputation Bad

       Does anyone know of any way I can find out WHY my IP address has a poor senderbase reputation score?
       It's causing major issues for our business as we are unable to contact our biggest customer. We send dozens of emails a day to their servers, and suddenly we are being blocked thanks to the listing.
       Yes, we have taken it up with their IT company, but their progress tends to be quite slow - and this issue will effect other customers as well.
       I like the concept of what Cisco is doing with senderbase - but without telling system administrators WHY they are listed poorly, how can we fix the problem? And why is there no mechanism to contact people to request the reasoning behind the change in status?
       I called the Australian branch of Cisco and they told me to send in an email complaint. Which of course I did, but it was rejected from our domain so I had to send it from a personal account.
       If anyone can help, please let me know - it's killing our business!

  • Compaq 8510w, poor SSD performance

    Something seems to be limiting my read performance with a SSD installed.  Running Windows 7 (64-bit), with the latest BIOS, Intel Driver INF and SSD Toolbox (for TRIM).  Drive is Intel X25-M G2 80GB, spec-ed at ~250MB/s for sequential writes.  Benchmarks tested include HD Tune, HD Tach, ATTO, Datamarck and DiskMark.  All show around 55MB/s sequential read with W7 resource monitor confirming that throughput.
    I have found articles online describing "poor SSD" performance due to either running SATA-I vs. SATA-II or AHCI vs. IDE.  The drive is running IDE (UDMA-5) and SATA-II.  What is described as poor performance is 225MB/s for IDE vs. UHCI and 175MB/s for SATA-I vs. SATA-II.  No where near the performance I see.
    I have also run across posts mentioning that the 8510w utilizes a bridge for IDE to SATA.  If this is the case, the bridge could be the culprit.  Any insight would be appreciated.

    Hi doasc,
    I just re-imaged my 8510w to Windows 7 onto a Kingston SSDNow V Series 128 GB drive.
    I was quite silly and did not run HD Tune before enabling the employer mandated McAfee Endpoint Encryption whole disk encryption.
    I get 60MB/sec in HD Tune with the disk encrypted - and you are likely quite correct about getting better results without disk encryption enabled and I wish I had tested it that way first.

  • Neighbors Have High Speed Internet but Systems Says Not Available

    Hello,
    I have been trying for the past week to get High Speed Internet with Verizon.  Two times I received an email saying… Although your line qualified for High Speed Internet service during the initial phases of the order process, unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with Internet access on your line ending in 0602 .
    I live in a small subdivision on the outskirts of Colonial Beach, Virginia with approximately 500 homes.
    I have two neighbors, one on each side of me i one  would be the closest to the substation) and another neighbor about one block past my house.  The second neighbor drives past my house every day to get to their house.
    I spoke with a local Verizon employee who told me the computer was turning down the High Speed Internet because of distance and that I needed to have someone at the local office, over-ride the automatic turn down so that it would be installed.  After the second computer automated turn down, I spoke with Eric – he said to give the next tech this information – Acct Number XXXXXX  Order Number XXXXX at the DSL Technical support so we could get this resolved.  The DSL Technical support guy was NOT interested in obtaining the account number or Order number Eric gave and said either the Router was filled or I was too far from the Loop.  I explained the neighbors and it still didnot seem to matter.  He was foreign and we did seem to have a significant language barrier.  He then transferred me back to Sales.
    Over and over I requested to speak with the actual Local Office in Warsaw, VA so I could be given a reasonable explanation.   I spoke with a woman who said the two neighbors were closer to the loop than me.  When I asked how this was possible if I am in the center of the two she said maybe it was because of a curve in the road?  She also said she was the local office but was not able to tell me where that office was located so obviously it was not the actual "local" office.
    How can I get someone to physically come out and determine why I cannot get High Speed Internet?  Who can I contact to make a formal complaint.
    Thank you for any input.

  • RAC Crashed due to Corrupted Blocks

    Hi,
    I've got a RAC system which was crashed due to couple of corrupted blocks. This is 10g r2 standard edition 3 node system with ASM disk.
    Is there any way where I can get this system up and running avoiding these corrupted blocks.
    Thanks,
    Kam.

    Step 1: Identify the currupted blocks
    Option1:
    Following queries will help you identify which block is currupted.
    ##Read from v$backup_corruption
    SELECT distinct 'Data Block# '|| block# || ' of Data File '|| name || ' is corrupted.'
    FROM v$backup_corruption a, v$datafile b
    WHERE a.file# = b.file#;
    ##Read from v$copy_corruption
    SELECT distinct 'Data Block# '|| block# || ' of Data File '|| name || ' is corrupted.'
    FROM v$copy_corruption a, v$datafile b
    WHERE a.file# = b.file#;
    Option2:
    Use DBVERIFY utility to identify currupted blocks.
    Ex:
    $ dbv file=system_ts_01.dbf start=9 end=25 blocksize=16384 logfile=dbvsys_ts.log feedback=2
    Step2: Repair currupted block
    Once currupted blocks are identified, use RMAN (assuming you still have the backups without currupted blocks), to recover those blocks.
    Recovering Data blocks Using Selected Backups:
    # restore from backupset
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 19 FROM BACKUPSET;
    # restore from datafile image copy
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 19 FROM DATAFILECOPY;
    # restore from backupset with tag "mondayAM"
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 199 FROM TAG = mondayAM;
    # restore using backups made before one week ago
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 19 RESTORE
    UNTIL 'SYSDATE-7';
    # restore using backups made before SCN 100
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 19 RESTORE UNTIL SCN 100;
    # restore using backups made before log sequence 7024
    BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 9 BLOCK 13 DATAFILE 2 BLOCK 19 RESTORE
    UNTIL SEQUENCE 7024;
    For example,
    $rman target =rman/rman@rmanprod
    RMAN> run {
    2> allocate channel ch1 type disk;
    3> blockrecover datafile 9 block 13 datafile 2 block 19;
    4> }
    If the currupted block's segment is an index, rebuilding index will take take care of the currupted block.

    To follow up on Poesjkin's message, that error text is exactly what an IronPort ESA will give when it applies rate limiting. If the receiving MTA is indeed an IronPort ESA, then that drastically narrows the likely reasons for the rate limiting. The most likely reason is that your sending ESA has an IP address with a poor SenderBase reputation, or has no reputation at all. Another good possibility is that that IP address fails the address->name->address double-lookup DNS verification. Try investigating those and see what you come up with.

  • Halt detection explained

    pterhune asked a good question, thanks!, one which many may be interested in: What is Halt detection, a choice you can make in BIOS and possibly lower temps?
    I got an answer from AMI today. I don't feel I yet have the permission to quote him, but in short:
    It is a new feature - not an old as I thought - and if you enable Halt detection, BIOS will begin a surveillance of the motherboard's temperature, voltage etc. If BIOS finds any abnormalities, for instance that processor temps are very high it will automatically shut the system down - so it is a safe guard as I thought -. Thus BIOS is making sure the system stays healthy. If BIOS has Halt detection, it is best to enable this feature.

    Hi justlooking,
    >But it does worry me, I don't like to think that I have to rely upon fetures like Halt Detection or some software program like CPUIdle or VCool to keep the temperature down.
    VCool or CPUIdle mainly change some registers of the northbridge, you get the same effect with tools like WPCRSET (Windows PCi Register SET). After changing those PCI-Registers you can close the program, the cooling effect will stay on. The only reason why CPUIdle or VCool should work in the background is that they have a better IDLE-Loop than Windows has (according to their programmers).
    Exception: DOS and Windows 95 to ME have no IDLE-Loop.
    Halt detect is a feature build by amd to reduce power consumption, normally we should not know that there is something like "hlt-detect" or "stop grant". The fact we took notice of that was that stop grant produced failure on some systems with poor power supplys due to the enourmous differences in power consumption in nano seconds of time. Many power supplies gave up, they could not deliver 12V plus minus X% when the processor first needs 15W and 2 Nanoseconds later it needs 68W and another 30 Nanoseconds later it will have 20W.
    Some mainboard designers decided to disable hlt-detect to have more stable systems also with el chipo power suplies and others followed them due to reputation (My system always crashes, the board brand xxx is ).
    Now that a power supply could cost more than 25 bucks they where better than those el chipos of the earlier days. Today most of the power supplies could deal with those heavy load changes and since 1 or 2 years more and more mainboard brands enable hlt-detect or let the user decide (BIOS option).
    If you are interested in history google for "STPGNT" which is the abbreviation for Stop grant (the processor request for entering the hlt state)
    Christian72
    P.S.: Design questions: Software cooling or not under full load the temps are the same otherwise it isn´t full load !

  • Send large amounts of data

    Hello everyone,
    I made an applet that receives data, signs and returns the signed data. When the amount of data is too big, I break it into blocks of 255 bytes and use the method Signature.update.
    OK, this is working fine, but perfomarnce is poor due to large amount of blocks. Is it possible to increase the size of the blocks?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You cannot change the block size but you can change what you send in.
    You may get better performance by sending multiples of your hash function block size as the card will not have to do internal buffering.
    You could also do as much of the work in your host application as possible and then just send in the data that you need to operate on with the private key. Generating the hash of the message does not require a private key so can be done in your host. You then send the result of the hash to the card to be encrypted with the private key. This will be the fastest method.
    Cheers,
    Shane
