Poor mta reputation

Hello,
All of a sudden many emails I'm trying to send from my .me address (mobile me account) are being bounced back saying "Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation."
How can I fix this??  It's a pressing problem, so any help is greatly appreciated.  I couldn't find a mail forum, so if there's a better place to post this let me know.
Thanks for any help.

  • Poor MTA reputation due to neighbors in /24 block

    Good day,
I have sent an email to [email protected], without any response (including of the automated kind).
I basically have 2 small IP blocks:
a primary /32 block (any traffic originating from the server appears to come from this IP)
a secondary /29 block that is routed to the /32
My MTA has a poor reputation, but it is not clearly indicated WHY.   I have been with the current colocation services for about 3 years, and I have had issues sending mail since.  In that time, my servers have never been blacklisted (as far as I can tell) on the various RBLs out there.  At the previous colocation facility that I used for 5 years, I never had any issues.
I have aggressive DKIM and SPF records, rDNS setup setup for my main domains.
All I can surmise is some of the IPs in the /24 my main block is part of have poor ratings, which is impacting me negatively.
I just don't know what else I can do to make things better.
    Thanks
    Jason

  • Poor SenderBase Reputation Score

Hi, I've recently migrated datacentre and changed my public IP of my online forum.  After that, I've noticed a significant number of e-mails getting bonced back from a host, which happens to have a significant of my members.  The reason was due to a poor SBRS rating.  However, I am unable to determine why this is the case as the domain sends nothing but e-mail notifications of forum replies.  Public relay has been turned off.
Can someone point me to the a right direction to find out the actual cause of this?

    Hi Steven,
sorry for not getting back to you earlier.
In general, I would like to encourage you to get in touch with customer support if you are experiencing issues with your Senderbase score. I just checked your current repoutation and the score is back to neutral at this time. Since the score has already changed again, I unfortuntaley cannot 100% confirm if your decreased score was in fact related to the issue referenced by Peter. That said, given the timing and your location, it is in fact likely.
Now, to provide a statement regarding the issues referenced in the IT News article.
The war against spam requires a daily battle with spammers and purveyors of malicious content. Cisco maintains the world’s most trusted and effective mail security technology through constant research and development, accompanied by constant measurement of results.
Tuesday morning PDT, Cisco became aware of an issue that resulted in Cisco email security products blocking some legitimate email senders. This was the result of recent algorithm updates that focused on newly identified Internet traffic behaviors indicating spam activity. Unfortunately, this traffic behavior is also seen in some legitimate email activity, resulting in the inaccurate blocks.
Upon learning of the issue, Cisco immediately implemented algorithm changes, fully resolving the issues by Tuesday evening PDT. Cisco security specialists are continuing to closely monitor the situation, to ensure no further impact to service.  Cisco is also enhancing monitoring procedures to more quickly identify any negative impacts of new rules in the future.

  • The Comcast "Poor Service" reputation is well earned!

I switched from FIOS to Comcast X1 in June (installed on the 9th) in order to take $20 off my monthly bill.  After the install the tech called in a request while standing in my living room to have the new cable burried.  Note: The cable runs across a large common area that is maintained by the commnunity.   After two weeks without any sign of the utility lines being marked I called Comcast to check on the cause for the delay.  Nothing, they had no ticket open to put the line underground.   Now nearly another two weeks have passed and I still don't have any sign of progress (in VA the lines are marked without a few days of a request to "Miss Utility").    So I have a great product (X1 DVR), but FIOS keeps sending "What can we do to get you back?" emails.  It is clear that Verizon will do what it takes while Comcast can't find the time to finish the job of winning a customer.    Is normal or has my case been handled by a few disgruntled Comcast employees?

  • Senderbase Reputation Bad for no reason?

Does anyone know of any way I can find out WHY some of our IP's poor senderbase reputation score even though the rest that send the same mail do not?

    Hi Ross,
Please consider opening a Service Request with our Customer Care ( http://www.cisco.com/web/ironport/contacts.html#~tab-3). We can investigate the SBRS for these IP address and provide further information.
Please note we share the specifics with the IP address or network's administrator as they are the one who can fix the issue. We do not disclose details with any other who is not administrator of the IP address or network to keep the data private about the network in question.
If you are not the admin, please advise your partner/customer to check :

  • Senderbase Reputation Bad

Does anyone know of any way I can find out WHY my IP address has a poor senderbase reputation score?
It's causing major issues for our business as we are unable to contact our biggest customer. We send dozens of emails a day to their servers, and suddenly we are being blocked thanks to the listing.
Yes, we have taken it up with their IT company, but their progress tends to be quite slow - and this issue will effect other customers as well.
I like the concept of what Cisco is doing with senderbase - but without telling system administrators WHY they are listed poorly, how can we fix the problem? And why is there no mechanism to contact people to request the reasoning behind the change in status?
I called the Australian branch of Cisco and they told me to send in an email complaint. Which of course I did, but it was rejected from our domain so I had to send it from a personal account.
If anyone can help, please let me know - it's killing our business!

anyone know what this is? too many recipients this hour?

To follow up on Poesjkin's message, that error text is exactly what an IronPort ESA will give when it applies rate limiting. If the receiving MTA is indeed an IronPort ESA, then that drastically narrows the likely reasons for the rate limiting. The most likely reason is that your sending ESA has an IP address with a poor SenderBase reputation, or has no reputation at all. Another good possibility is that that IP address fails the address->name->address double-lookup DNS verification. Try investigating those and see what you come up with.

  • How many license do I need with a cluster of 2x ESA?

    Hi there,
I would like to implement a cluster of 2x Cisco IronPort ESA appliances in an Active/Active manner.
It requires 4000 mail users, so how many license on each ESA appliance do I need to install? I suppose 2000 on each ESA.
When one of the ESA fails, is it possible for the remaining one to handle the load of 4000 users?
I am pretty new to this field. Please help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Tuan, CCIE #26930

    Dear Tuan,
For 4000 user size, you can purchase a dual appliance bundle with 1, 3 or 5 year license with 4000 mailbox licenses. You will be given 2 x C370 with Centralized Management license (together with licenses of your bundled feature set).
You can run both in active/active configuration. With centralized management license, both can be formed as a cluster and you can manage the cluster configuration over web interface of one of the appliances.
Regarding whether one unit can handle the load, it will depend on your traffic load (peak message per hour, average message size, antispam, antivirus, outbreak filter, DLP, encryption, content filters, etc.). In my experience, one C370 should be able to handle traffic of similar size enterprise.
With SenderBase reputation filtering, you should already throttle/block 90+% of bad traffic coming from poor/bad reputation IP hosts. You can also make sure of the new AsyncOS 7.6 'rate limit for envelope sender' to throttle mass mailing attack of same sender (also internal outbreak emails).
Please get in touch with your partner for the details and they can also show you a demo. You can also get a evaluation unit from our partner to put it live. We can configure IronPort to be almost transparent on top of your existing mail gateway/server to prove its performance, antispam efficacy and other email security features.
    Cheers,
    Tommy

  • Tried to do warranty said there was an error tried to do a support ticket got an error.

Can I just not have the worst possible experiance doing a simple arranty echange. That would be great. The support ticket error is: An error was encountered during knowledge base search. What the **bleep**, I am trying to add a ticket and coule care less about some knowledge base **bleep**.  The warranty said the warrant y was not good because it's oem. It's not I bought it from newegg with a 4 year warrantly less than two years ago.

Thanks for the call. I replied to your email with the image and it said I have a poor MTA and bounced it. Why would you use such a unreliable spam filter? Everyone knows MTA is BS. I send hundreds of emails and get them all day everyday and have never sent spam. Reverse dns and proper records are set! There is no reason for a poor anything, my email is clean as a whistle. So much trouble just send back a drive that died the first day I tried to use it. Please hire a better customer service manager so people can get decent help when your products fail. Fix your support desk to work, get rid of MTA filters on your email, it's not 1999. And let people do a warranty in your system without jumping through 500 hoops. Right now your support and customer service is horrible. I also have no way to contact you now other than posting on this forum. Awesome!

  • How to increase SBRS for a domain?

I've implemented a new mail system for a new company recently. But some staffs in this company reported that they could not send email to some domains like hotmail.com, msn.com,etc. So I go to senderbase.org to check my company IP address and "Email Reputation Score: Poor". How can I increase the SBRS? and also can I know the reason why this IP has a poor email reputation score?

Also you may want to verify if you have the correct DNS information for your domain.
Here is a great article that goes into detail on this:
    http://www.pkguild.com/?p=7
With Hotmail - it should help (according to their website) if you have SenderID and SPF records for your domain.
If your email is "worth money" then you can pay a company like SenderScore Certified a chunk of money and get onto their whitelist (which Hotmail and other major email providers use). Ironport used to own SenderScore (under another name) but it is totally seperate now.
You can also improve your SBRS by making sure none of your email addresses forward email out of your Ironport (as they will be also forwarding spam out too).
If you have mailing lists - make sure they do proper forwarding (ie not an Exchange DL or UNIX /etc/aliases) as they make it look like you are forging other people's domain names.
Oh yeah - if you have any spammer issues on your network - fix them too :)

  • IPhone 3G Availability in Nigeria

Gentlemen, does anyone know when / if Apple plans to make the iPhone 3G officially available in Nigeria? I did not see Nigeria in the list of countries scheduled for availability on July 11, nor did I see it in the list of countries planned for future availability. If anyone at Apple has definitive answer to this, it would be most useful. Speculation discouraged, facts appreciated. Thank you.

The persistent negative attitudes regarding NIgeria and self flagellation by Nigerians is really disheartening. Odds are extremely high that the iPhone 3G is coming to Nigeria as there is a strong business case for Apple to do so and they have already shown a willingness to secure deals with comparatively less attractive markets.
    1. There are 3G networks in Nigeria - MTN, Glo and Zain are all currently offering 3G services, though they may currently be limited to Lagos and other major cities.
    2. Nigeria is the largest mobile phone market in Africa and currently the fastest growing, definitely if they have signed sales agreements for Niger, CAF, not to mention South Africa, Nigeria will definitely be an attractive market (poor perceived reputation or not).
    3. Apple has abandoned the revenue sharing model for the iPhone 3G in the US, and I seriously doubt that they are looking at that as a source of revenue in say, Niger, so buyers should expect to pay full price or be tied to a provider in Nigeria.
    4. The iPhone is currently one of the most popular phones in Lagos business circles, no doubt the carriers see a ready market for the device, similar to the popularity of the blackberry.
As someone said above, Apple will say nothing until a contract has been signed with one of the carriers.

I checked out mailstore01.fastname.no in Senderbase and it fails on the reverse MX-lookup for ip 85.19.150.221. However, we have big problems now With mail being rejected and I need to know why?? The email reputation of the IP is good, why is it being rejected? Cause the reverse MX-lookup fail? If so, I need to switch that off. How do I do it? It's defined in the HAT? In the mail policy "accepted" I have switched off "Envelope Sender DNS Verification". It's turned on for the mail flow policy "Throttled" and "Blocked". Can anyone please assist me? We had this problems for a few days and it's turning into a big problem. I can not make exceptions for single domains cause it's many legit emails being rejected.

  • TS3276 sending MTA's poor reputation

How do I fix the error "Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation."

If you are sending mail, then the relevant e-mail domain is smtp.mac.com.  When sent mail is rejected with a 554 error, it is because of the originating address (that is to say, your IP address), not the mail provider.
The problem may be your ISP.
Try for yourself: go to the E-mail Blacklist Toolbox and enter smtp.mac.com to check, it will recommend using your own IP address as the address to be checked.
    http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
My guess is that whatever IP address block your IP address is in has been blacklisted somewhere; you'll probably see some red X's.  Depending on who is blocking your IP address...you may find this useful: http://www.rackaid.com/resources/spam-blacklist-removal/.
Finally, just to keep things interesting...its also possible that the receiving MTA is rejecting you for an entirely different reason having nothing to do with poor reputation at all...and jsut has bad error messages.  Do you get this error often, or only from one specific recipient?  Is the problem with a personal or commercial e-mail address?  Do you run your own e-mail server?

  • Email "MTA poor reputation" error

Has anyone come across the following error message when using icloud mail?
"Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:
Recipient address: specific email address quoted
Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server.
Diagnostic code: smtp;554-lonmx1.mail system quoted Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.

For security reasons I have removed the specific email address used, and also the server information but essentially where I show "mail system quoted" there is a reference in the error message to the server I was sending mail to. This problem has only started since 8 April 2013 and even then only with certain email contacts.
Any ideas why this has suddenly started happening?

    Might check here...

Might also see the last post here for APR 29th...
I changed my outgoing mail setting from "smtp.mail.me.com" to "smtp.me.com" and this seems to have solved the problem for me.
