  • Poor quality prints from HP 1320n x64 Windows 7

    Hi
I am running CS4 on Windows 7 64bit and I've noticed that b/w prints from my HP Laserjet 1320n is very poor. I typically print screen shots or print single page PDFs to the 1320n. The output is low res and looks like newspaper print magnified several times (halftone printing?)! The prints are still low res even when I change the doc to 300 pixels/inch. However when I print the same docs to my Canon IP4500 inkjet the prints come out perfect. I am not sure if its a problem with CS4 or a HP driver problem. The HP prints without problems from other packages such as MS Word.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
It looks like a driver problem in Windows 7. I removed the HP PCL6 driver and replaced it with the built-in (but older) PCL5 driver in Windows 7 and it seems to have resolved the issue. I compared the two drivers and it seems that PCL6 does not have the 'Printer Features | Graphics Mode | Send Graphics As Vector' mode. This seems to be the crucial setting that allows high res bitmaped graphics and PDF's to be printed properly.
    Thanks.

  • Poor quality printing

About a year ago I remember seeing frequent complaints about the poor quality printing in photo books.
Is anyone else still having problems? I just recieved 2 books and I am just unimpressed (and quite disappointed) with the print quality.
One is a duplicate of a book I had printed through My Publisher last year and there is a night and day difference. The My Publisher book looks far superior.
I was having difficulty with My Publisher so I decided to give Apple's service a try.
I'm shooting with an 8mp dSLR camera (Canon) so I should have no issue with 8x10 prints. My scanned images were all at 300dpi.
Many of the photos in the book I've had printed locally and there is a big quality difference.
Is anyone seeing this problem or did I just get unlucky?
    THANKS!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The Apple book cannot compete with your printing of the photos or pages on your own inkjet printer or thru a photofinisher. It uses a different type of printer. The current books (all sizes) are printed at 300 dpi. Here's what Apple send me regarding the books printing and material quality:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Colors not printing correctly - Only When Printing from Reader 9

I have recently been having problems printing color PDF's using Reader 9. Yellows are printing as blue, blues as pink, pink as grey, etc. I have no problems printing any other types of photos, documents, or powerpoint presentations so I am assuming it is some setting in Reader. My printer is an HP Color LaserJet CM1015. Any help diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

It is using sRGB and that is the only color profile available.
In addition, when I try to print 4 slides per page and 1 slide per page, the colors are completely different than when I try to print 2 slides per page.
I have tried changing settings in print options and put them back to default and nothing I do changes the issue. Again, it only occurs when printing from Reader. Everything else prints colors perfectly fine.

  • User can't print from Reader, tried multiple troubleshooting steps

Working with a client who can no longer print from Reader (v11.0.10). Windows 7 Pro x86 machine.  Tried printing after each of the following steps:
    Rebooted PC
    Restarted Print Spooler service
Uninstalled/Reinstalled Reader v11 (from fresh download)
    Set PDF/A option to "Never"
Set Advanced option for "Print as image"
Uninstalled v11 and installed v10 (from fresh download)
Set v10 option to "Print as image"
In each instance, the printer queue shows no activity following a print command from Reader.  No document is hanging or even appearing in the queue.
Test prints from other applications (MS Excel) and from the printer properties Test button both work flawlessly. When test printing from other apps, the documents are briefly visible in the print queue.
She gets no error message.  It simply does not print.  Have attempted with multiple documents and sending to different printers.
Next step is going to be installing third-party PDF reader software and scrapping Reader altogether.  Please advise if there are any additional troubleshooting steps before abandoning this product.

No dice. Tried disabling protected mode and still could not print.
Installing Foxit Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/index.php) so at least user can print PDFs.  I will keep monitoring this post for any further suggestions anyone may come up with.

I am using reader 11.0.10.32 in Win7 Professional 64 bit.  I am unable to print from Reader.  After selecting print all pages, the progress bar goes through the proper page count. After that a pop up window appears with the message: The document could not be printed.  After pressing the OK button that pop up closes and the next pop up window appears with the message: There were no pages selected to print.  After pressing the OK button, the pop up closes and the pdf document is still visible in Reader.
I can print from other programs to that printer.  I can print from Reader to other printers.
I was able to print to all printers before.  I uninstalled Reader and reinstalled it from the Adobe web site.
Any suggestions to make it print?

  • Color management when printing from Reader 9

When printing from Adobe Reader 9 (Windows XP), the Advanced Print Setup gives the option "let printer determine colors". I presume that if this is selected the colors in the document will be sent unchanged to the printer. So, how does Reader 9 affect the document colors when printing if this option is NOT selected? Also, was this the same in Reader 8?

  • L5780: first page or 2 print fine then poor quality print

The first few pages of print will be fine but then towards the end of the 3rd page there are horizontal streaks, the next page will be full of them getting worse as the page progresses.  I can wait a while (1/2 hour or so) get a good page but then back to the  horizontal streaks.
I replaced my print heads in August last year and had some issues with the black and yellow one which HP replaced (both of them went from green status to yellow status fairly quickly).  The new print head solved the issue for a while but now for months I've been dealing with this problem.
I have cleaned, aligned and calibrated and now after a 2nd cleaning the yellow print is a very poor quality.  I have HP, print heads, HP ink and HP paper.  I have the proper paper settings.  From what I have read it appears that it could be the black and yellow print head again, but that just seems odd that a 3rd one would go bad in this short time (the first ones I replace in August did not indicate they were bad and were still in a yellow status) .  I don't do a great deal of printing and this August was the first time I've replaced the print heads since I got the printer about 4 years ago.
I print most of my items from Micro Soft Word or Micro Soft Digital Image Suite 2006 Editor.

  • Poor quality printing with quick books remote

I just started using the HP 8610 and now the print quality is poor when remote printing from quick books. It was perfectly fine wiht my OLD OLD HP 1200. checked with remote printing company and they have not helped. Any clues?

I have the same problem when using Logmein with my new 8610.   Printing text heavy statements from remote computers that look fine on the screen, come out with fuzzy pics and pixelated words.   This was also never a problem with our old 7510.

  • M1522 Low Quality Printing From Mac On Network

We have a HP LaserJet M1522nf MFP on our network. It is used by both Macs and PC's without much problem. But the quality from the Macs are really poor verses the Windows running XP or W2K. If I print a web page on the Mac, it looks jaggy & dim, like I've got the printer on lowest quality printing. I print the very same web page from one of the PCs and it comes out beautiful. Crystal clear. I've installed the latest software from HP download site with no change. I've tried printing with generic PS driver with no improvement. I've tried different programs. The problem is not program specific.
PLEASE HELP. I can no longer print documents to my colleague's printer which is a big hinderance to productivity. This is the first HP printer that has given me any problem with cross platform issues.

After trying lots of suggestions from here and the HP forums, I finally called HP and they walked me through the usual steps, which included some manual uninstalls of HP prefs & frameworks then reinstalling the printing software. None of that helped. They finally had me reset the printer to the factory defaults. (Power Up with the Down Arrow and Cancel buttons pressed at the same time) That did the trick. If there were any settings for quality set manually on the printer they only affected the Mac printing AND were not overridden by settings in the Mac print dialog that would suggest that they could be overridden. Seems to me something isn't operating quite like it should.
But... HP helped me fix it and for that I'm grateful.

  • Low quality prints from OSX Yosemite

    Hello ladies and gents,
I bought a new colour laser printer yesterday: the Samsung SL-C460WXpress.
I installed the latest OS X drivers and software which I downloaded from the Samsung website. I did the same thing for my Windows machine.
    The problem:
When I print from my MBPR with OS X Yosemite, I have barely any options. I can't select the print quality, I can't select the type of photo paper, I basically miss every single option necessary to make good photo prints. As a result, the photos come out granular and of low quality.
When I print from my Windows machine, I can setup my print properties. E.G. paper type (thick, photo matte, photo glossy, etc.), print quality (normal, photo, etc.) and what not. When I set the properties to 'photo' the prints come out amazing.
I don't want to send back the printer, just because OS X is lacking in functionality. Is there anything I can do? Or am I stuck with eithre Windows, or changing printer?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Yours,
    Danny

Your initial post was very clear.  My response to you was based on your statement of...
When I print from my MBPR with OS X Yosemite, I have barely any options. I can't select the print quality, I can't select the type of photo paper,
My recommendation of contacting the manufacturer and/or reading the user manual still stands if repairing permissions does not work.  On some printer/scanners not all of the printer options work in Yosemite.  Reason why you need to confirm directly from the manufacturer if the user manual does not state so.
kahjot has already provided you w/repairing permissions instructions.

  • Poor laser printing from Mac InDesign2

I'm using InDesign CS2 on a MacPro OS 10.4.5. I bought a Brother HL 2140 laser printer to make clean black and white (mostly text) printouts of my book layouts for client's proofing process. Unfortunately, the print outs are not laser quality when originating from InDesign. They ARE laser quality from the Text Edit utility, and the test prints embedded from within the printer. It's just printing from InDesign (or Photoshop for that matter) that creates a more draft quality print out.
I've spent hours searching forums on several sites and haven't turned up any conversations. I've talked with the printer's support folks but they are more PC based with solutions and responses. No answers there. I've tested every combination of printer setting possible within InDesign... I've created pdf files from which to print, all with the same low quality results. I don't believe this problem is specific to a Brother printer. I had the same results with my Canon all-in-one machine (inkjet). I've talked with Adobe support, but that was brief as CS2 is no longer supported via phone. I have the most recent driver for the printer.
I suspect it's something to do with postscript vs. non-postcript language? Emulated postscript? Not enough chocolate in the world? I'm stumped. This printer has GDI emulation, but no postscript emulation. One of Brother's higher priced models has BR-Script3 emulation, is that the answer?
If this turns out to be the wrong printer, it needs to be returned within two days, so I'm up against the wire. Anyone have some thoughts? Thank you!

    Thanks, JJGraphics,
My past experience with creating a PDF directly from ID2 and printing from the PDF showed a moderate improvement, yes, but one I was wishing had a more laser printer quality. I still sent the print outs created from pdf files to clients, but cringed at the quality. My printer choices have been on the cheap price end of the spectrum----yours is FABulous!---so that was likely a large factor in my disappointing results on non-Postscript printers. Now, my most active client doesn't want their designers to send color proofs anymore. They bought an expensive in-house system and run the pdf or jpeg comps themselves. They still require hard copy print outs of the book interior design layouts and that has lead to my quest for a better black and white proof. Now I know to look for Adobe PostScript thanks to the input from this forum. I'm appreciative.

  • Printing from Reader XI crashes HP 2605 printer, please help

    Hello all,
My HP 2605dn printer reboots whenever trying to print PDF files.  Here are the steps I’ve performed to determine that the issue is with printing PDF files only and not other file types:
Mac OSX 10.7.5, HP 2605dn, Apple HP driver v19.6, HP firmware 20061114, 20071108 and 20120413 (per printer’s webpage.)
Disconnect printer from power cord and Ethernet cable for at least 24 hours.
Attach power cord only, power up, and print demo page directly from printer menu successfully.
Attach network cable, reinstall printer, open printer queue, and attempt to print test page from OSX menu; however, page doesn’t print, though printer queue says it did
Open Microsoft Word, and print “Hello World” successfully.
Second attempt to print test page from printer queue succeeds.
Print one page from Safari 6.0.5 successfully.
Open recently created PDF in Preview 5.5.3 and print two pages, two-sided successfully.
Open same PDF with Adobe Reader 11.0.03 and attempt to print first page with Language Level 2 and no download of Asian fonts, but encounter printer error.  Printer itself is displaying “Printing Document”, but the printer is unresponsive to any button presses.
Delete print job from printer queue.
Attempt to print test page from printer queue, but the queue displays “The printer is not connected.”
Disconnect printer from power cord and Ethernet cable for at least five minutes.
Attach power cord only, power up, and print demo page directly from printer menu successfully.  Previously submitted test page is printed as well.
Attach network cable, and print test page from printer queue successfully.
Print one page of same PDF from Preview successfully.
Print Service Page directly from printer successfully.
Print Network Configuration Page directly from printer caused printer to reboot.
Printing one page from Microsoft Word caused printer to reboot.
Printing Demo page directly from printer causes display and buttons to freeze.
Toggle power button, and attempt to print Demo Page directly from printer results with “79 Error” and a reboot.
The same results are obtained when repeating the above steps, beginning with step 2.
I’ve gotten pretty much the same behavior when trying to print PDFs with the generic PCL and PostScript drivers, selecting PostScript language level 2 and 3 in the PDF printing advanced options, and after updating the printer from HP 2605 Firmware 20061114 to 20120413 to 20071108.  My printer is perfectly functional until I attempt to print a PDF under Adobe Reader XI.
I would appreciate any guidance in resolving this issue.
    Thanks,
    Ira
Downgraded to HP firmware 20071108 and encountered same issue.

    Hi nhuser,
Thanks for your help. But I am afraid it still doesn't work. I tried to uninstall and re-download and re-install the driver last night. After that I got an update from apple for the driver of my printer, I installed it but it doesn't help with the two-sided printing.
I can see the option for two-sided printing in the 'layout' section, but it is in grey colour, I can't choose it.
