Poor quality when exporting Explain Everything Video

Hi There,
I've created some videos in using the "Explain Everything" App on my iPad. When I save the videos to my iPad camera roll and play them back they look fantastic.  When I emailed the videos to myself and opened them up in my MacBook, the quality is quite poor (blurry).  The same thing was true when I tried to open the emailed file back onto the same iPad it was originally created on.
I'm hoping to be able to take these good quality videos and insert them into Final Cut Pro.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I know nothing about it, but is any help available here?

  • Very poor quality when exporting slideshow

I am using a Canon 5D, and when I view the images in Full screen. They are gorgeous. I created a slideshow. When I play the slideshow in Aperture - again they are gorgeous and crisp, however when I export these images to a Quicktime movie they look blurry - almost like they were taken with a regular point and shoot.
    I have selected Export > HD 720p
I understand that slideshows are generated from previews, so I went to Aperture > Preferences > Previews and selected Photo Preview > Don't limit & for Photo Preview Quality I selected 12 (high).
I kept the 2 selections that were there on default selected (these are: new projects automatically generate previews, and use embedded JPEG from camera whenever possible)
Then I selected all of the images in the slideshow, and when I right clicked and selected "Update Previews" I received the message saying that the previews were already up to date. I exported the slideshow - and the quality was still poor.
I then tried to update the previews from the items in the individual libraries themselves instead of selecting the images in the Slideshow (hoping that would make a difference), and tried to update the previews. But I got the same error.
What am I missing? Why am I seeing excellent quality when I preview the slideshow when I click the Full Screen play button - but when I export it to 720p HD it looks horrendous.
    Please help!

FTF you need to hold down the alt key when selecting the images and choose generate preview. The update preview option maintains previous settings. Using alt/option creates a new preview.
Second HD720p is still significantly below the resolution of your display so the images will look softer.
But try the previews first and post back.

  • Poor quality when exporting to MOV (H264/AAC) with CS5 and CS5.5

    Hi there,
I need to export my HDV sequence (1440*1080 Pixel 1,33 25fps) using HDV footage only to MOV format (with H264 / AAC codecs).
I'm using 1024*576 (1.0) SD preset with a correct video bitrate CBR 6mbs and the Quality is awful.
When I use the H264 format ( to get a .MP4 file) with the same preset (1024*576 square pixel >> CBR 6mbs) the quality is quite good. I 'm pretty happy with that. The only thing is that my client (TV) needs the clip in MOV format (including H264/AAC codecs) and the quality is awful. They expect me to use FCP as most of the journalists here in France use this application.
    I tried with PREMIERE CS5 on a PC (windows 7 64 bits) >> 8G0 RAM, Dual Core
and with PREMIERE PRO CS5.5 on a mac
Same awful result when trying to export to MOV (H264/AAC).
I heard that PREMIERE can't properly export to this format? Is this correct? If so, i need to convince my client to use only MP4 (H264/AAC) files since I don't really wanna use Final Cut Pro or Media Composer to edit and export my clip.
    Any tips ?
    Thanks guys.
    Julien

I had similar quality issues exporting H264 from PPro vs. Avid Media Composer.  CHeck out this thread link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854379?tstart=0.
I found it pretty helpful, it also links to another reference thread.
I think it's possible, but will take a bit of trial and error.
    Good luck

  • Poor quality when exporting HD project directly from Final cut Express

I am doing some HD projects in Final Cut Express HD. I filmed with the Sony HRD-HC1 in 1080i. I import into FCE using the 1080i 60 preset from Easy setup. I completed the project and it looks great from FCE full screen. I export as Quicktime (not Using Quicktime conversion), and I get a perfect looking output file using the Apple intermediate codec, 1440x1080. The problem is that the client needs to play back the video on windows machine using Quicktime. The windows Quicktime does not support the AIC apple intermediate codec, so I have to export to another format. I tried everything exporting from FCE, MP2, H.264, DivX, everyone option. They all look terrible. Blurry, especially parts that have quick motion. Really terrible. I called Apple support, no love. I then tried taking the AIC version of the file and used compressor. It took forever, but came up with am OK MP2 HD file. It still doesn't look that great, but it is way better. So, is their something broken with the FCE exports using Quicktime conversion? Anyone have similar experiences or workarounds? I don't want to use compressor as I don't have it on my Mac Book pro, I had to move it to another machine to do that.

Being that the dimentions you suggested should be widescreen, I re-ran the conversion to your parameters, this time un-checking "Preserve aspsect ratio.. as letterbox" and this time it is widescreen. Not sure why, but it was putting the black bars on the left and right, not the top and bottom, scrunching to 4:3ish with that box checked. Strange.
Anyway, the quality is the best H.264 I have seen exporting directly from FCE. It still blurs quite a bit on the fast moving video parts, my MP2 version from compressor still looks lots better. Seems like there is some problem with exporting HD from FCE. It just is not coming out sharp, like the Apple intermediate codec version you get with Export - -> Quicktime movie or if you wait for compressor to do the work rather than FCE. Does compressor use a different engine, or does it use the same QT and just take more time to do a better job in the export? Something just isn't right.

  • What's with the poor quality when exporting a presentation to iDVD

When I exported I choose high resolution preference. The presentation ran perfectly in Keynote, but when I exported it to iDVD it looked horrible- like low res- the same when I burned it onto a DVD just as a test. Also, when I tried another route- exporting to Powerpoint it saved the file as .pps? What is that? None of my others have done that.
    G4 Powerbook 17in   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have iDVD 6 and I exported it - high quality to iDVD. Is that what you mean by iDVD feature?
I read on this discussion something about the slide resolution. I discovered when I first set up the show my resolution was 800x600 and I haven't found a way to change it. I am ready to begin again and set my slide res to the maximum and copy, paste, and resize all my text to fit- then export again. LOTS OF WORK! but I am not sure how else I can resolve this.

  • Poor Quality when Exported for DVD

    Hi,
I am creating a dvd of some animations, and the animations are videos of what were originally all vector shapes and text. The videos were originally made with After Effects, at 720x480, NTSC preset. I can export from after effects at full-scale with with no problems, but once the comp tries to go into NTSC mode (where it squishes it to 640x480) the whole thing becomes ruined. All text becomes illegible and many vector objects get jagged edges.
I have tried exporting from after effects as well as bringing it into final cut pro and using compressor at 2-pass (Best Quality 90 min DVD preset), and no matter what I do the resulting video is always horribly deformed... Any idea what I need to do differently?
    thank you.

    thank you for your help.
I am viewing this on a computer display. I've been switching between a powerbook and a g5 with cinema display.
In AE I typically use apple animation codec, but I have also been trying it as an uncompressed avi and and uncompressed quicktime. By bringing the file directly from AE to compressor and changing from vbr 2-pass to One Pass CBR it has greatly improved the quality, still it does have some pixelation that I can't get rid of, even at the full 9mbps bitrate.
My understanding was that I wasn't bringing it into square pixels that I was using the DVCPRO/NTSC preset which formats it to a 4:3 ratio (which is what I think Final Cut also is doing), either way, by not doing that in After Effects, and by changing to CBR it is definately an improvement.
One more thing I should probably mention is that the videos are actually programs I have written and so they are being captured using a screen-capture to video utility called iShowU. The program seems to be good, and I am using an NTSC preset.
Any ideas as to what I can do to get these to as good of quality as their apple animation quicktimes?
the dvds I am assembling are only about 45 minutes.

  • Rendered text looks OK in premiere pro, but is poor quality when exported - why?

I have done a nice text animation in after effects.  Just a simple character by character fade on.
It looks good in AE, and when I import and preview it in Premiere Pro, it looks equally nice.
However, when I export it to a (high bit rate WMV), it looks poor and blocky.
All the other non-animated text looks fine.    Why is this happening?
    (I have CS3)

Well, with the information to hand I'm out of ideas.  I'd need more data to go further.  If you'd care to upload the export, I can take a look here, see what you see.

  • Poor quality images exporting from InDesign to PDF

We are having an issue with poor quality images exporting to PDF from Indesign (CS6). It makes zero difference whether the images are Ai images or PDF. They look perfect in Ai, perfect in the InDesign document, but appalling in the exported PDF. If the PDF document is printed, they print fine, but as a web based pdf document it is not publishable. We must use compression on export to keep the file size small enough for web/email use, but even with compression turned off on export there is no improvement in the PDF quality with a document ten times the size.
    Any help would be appreciated?

I appear to have answered my own question, but will place it here to hopefully help others.
On comparing another InDesign document that appeared to export to PDF ok, we noticed that the type of frame makes a huge difference to image output quality. In the suspect document the frames with the images in them were " [Basic Graphics Frame]+ ". When I changed the frame (or made a new frame) to " [None] "; not only were the images a lot clearer in the InDesign document but they exported to PDF perfectly. Something so simple!!!!

  • FCP Freezes When Exporting to Flash Video (FLV)

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009

    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.
    ===
I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The file is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes.

Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The temporary file it saves is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes. I have been able to locate the file using GrandPerspective and close out of FCP to delete it. But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external? Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

  • Jpeg quality when exporting

Is there a way to adjust the jpeg quality when exporting or editing? I can change the image size, which is helpful, but it would be nice if I could change the jpeg compression in order to reduce the file size. Thanks!

    Hi Stanleydad,
i noticed from you other post that you are using AOL.
In iPhoto Preferences, have you chosen AOL as your email client.
Once you do this, when you choose an images within iPhoto and click the email icon, iPhoto will open your AOL mail client and attach the photos with the size you chose in the export dialog.
You might even want to make a new post that is all yours so it is easier for us to address all your needs.
Give us the version of iPhoto you are using, the Mail client (AOL) and any other information on what you want to do and we will tell you how to accomplish it.

  • Lightroom 5.4 reaches 10% and crashes when exporting a slideshow video.

Lightroom 5.4 reaches 10% and crashes when exporting a slideshow video every time. I have Abobe Premiere elements 10, which works fine for creating a slideshow. Could there be a conflict? Any suggestions most welcome as this problem is driving me bom-boms.
    Regards Dave

Thanks so much ... just tried it and it worked perfectly. I just used a small external drive to transfer them, and ticked the option to 'copy and import photos to new location', so not only the catalogue, but also the photos themselves are on my iMac. Very simple. Thanks.

  • Poor video Quality when exporting to DVD

I cant seem to get a clear video. I am downloading from DV from a canon and the quality is sentational.
When on the time line averything is brilliant. When rendereing everything is still ok.
When exporting to DVD it goes pear shaped. I have tried dozens of different variations with the same results.
I am in AUstralia and am using PAL.
I get motion blur and what appears to be very poor quality result after exporting.
Help... I dont have much hair left.
    Premier Pro Tragic

    @Harm,
"Pear-shaped" (or sometimes "fruit-shaped") is a euphemism meaning that the effort has gone awry; it was a mess.
    @John,
Export to DVD is a PPro 2.0 function; in CS3 it is now Export to Encore. Is that what you meant?
First thing is to check the field orders of your source material and of your export settings. Don't invert them, and don't deinterlace interlaced footage.
Perhaps a short list of the settings you have tried (and why you chose those settings) would help us help you.

  • Poor video quality when exporting

I am new to Premiere and don't know all the functions yet. (at all)
    I have wto questions.
I have successfully imported and edited my video, but it seems, that the final result (the preview at the right) is cutting off the edges of my video.
I have tried the "Scale to frame size" function, and then it looks better. But I think it's quite strange, that it fits perfectly in the left preview...?
My second issue is when I import the video. It should be recorded in full HD or at least 720p, but when I export it it is in 576p.
It's pretty hard for me to tell what I do when I export, so here's one more screenshot:
I use .avi and have tried to do the "Use maximum render quality" but it still seems to be poor quality.
Can anyone tell me (in an easy way) how to fix this and how to prevent the edges of being cut off?
Thank you so much for your time!

If you shot HD or 16:9 footage you should have edited in a Sequence that matche that Source. ie NOT SD

  • Poor video quality when exporting from Adobe Premiere

Hey, I was just wondering if there was anyone here that could help me  with this problem I am having with Adobe Premiere Pro.
I have used it to edit a movie together with MOV video files from my  iPhone 3GS which are of decent quality but everytime I try to export it,  the video quality is degraded significantly from the original. I have  tried several different export options but none seem to do the trick.
Also, exporting with DivX just gives me an audio file with no video so I  have been unable to try that.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.
