Poor recognition of new usb devices

Hi,
I want to read some cards I have in my camera or phone so I bought a all in one card reader. The thing comes with a mini installation disk in case the computer doesnt automatically recognise the usb device. But it should be automatic... so I don't understand why its not recognized and why mini discs don't fit in the mac reader either... how can i install the device now?
than you for your support!!

Hi - I just purchased a electronic dictionary in China that has capabilities such as MP3/MP4 music playing, camera, flash video. It has a USB connector - and its important to be able to connect to my 15 inch MacBook Pro running Mac OS X (10.5.2) for management of music and photo files etc. I took it back to the store, and they demonstrated it connects OK to a Windows machine (which I don't think had any special drivers). I checked the USB hardware status in the "About the Mac - More info" and it showed nothing attached to the USB port. The device has a "USB sync" "tool" and if I select this, the device freezes and has to be reset when it is connected to the Macbook. The device comes with a tiny DVD, which basically has the device software, but I didn't see any drivers to install (on a Windows machine). I think it "should" be recognized by the Macbook. Any ideas on why its not, and if there is anything I can do about it?

"New USB device detected" - large black window comes up when I plug an external HD or NetTalk device. At the bottom it says "hold alt to remember the choice". Im running Parallels 6.0, so give me the option to choose. I held alt and chose Mac. Now I want to choose Windows 7 - BootCamp, but Can't. How do I reset my choice, so it always asks me?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mac Mini is disconnecting all usb drives whenever any new USB device is plugged in.

I have 10.6.7 on a Mac Mini 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram and a 60 gig hard drive.
It seems that every time I plug or unplug any USB device, it disconnects all the connected USB drives.  This seems to be something new, but I have not really often used the other USB ports either.  It is very frustrating, as you can imagine.  If I plug one drive in, and then plug another drive in, plugging the second drive it often disconnects the first one.
But it is not just drives.  I can have only one drive plugged in, and unplug and replug the keyboard, and the USB drive will disconnect.  Then I will get message about how I did not safely disconnect the drive.
    Any help would be great.

Yes.  One is a mini Toshiba USB drive with no other options for power.  But even unplugging an iPhone USB cord with NO iPhone attached to it will cause the drive to drop off.  The second USB drive I plugged in today had the same issues.  Basically I have to unmount a drive, then plug in a second device, then remount the drive using disk utility.  Very painful.

  • USB device (Logitech QuickCam Messenger) stopped working (SOLVED)

    Hey there,
I have a logitech quickcam messenger, which used to work perfectly 2 days ago. I updated my system yesterday and this morning, but I tried the cam again only now, and neither cheese nor webcamstudio work anymore (it never worked in skype since I moved from Mint to Arch a few weeks ago, but that was easily (and better) addressed by starting cheese and then using desktop sharing in Skype)
    The webcam is recognized

SOLVED : really stupid problem, but well... I'll completement my post and leave it for anybody who might hit the same problem :
dmesg looked like this when after I started cheese :
    [ 3815.848011] usb 1-1.4: unlink qh8-3008/ec236980 start 0 [1/2 us]

[ 3816.917377] gspca: bandwidth not wide enough - trying again
[ 3816.938010] gspca: no transfer endpoint found
The (not so obvious) solution was to connect the webcam directly to the computer and not through a USB hub. I have no idea why it used to work and suddenly stopped, but it works again now.
sorry to take up your time, in case I did.

    So, hi everyone
I've got a usb device which works on other systems (usb audio player, android tablet) but not on my archlinux htpc.

  • BB Z10 not being recognized as usb device in W8

I just upgraded to the Z10 from my 9800 and used BB Link to transfer all the details to the new phone.
I also have a new Dell AIO with w8.
After downloading all the data from the 9800 and plugged in the Z10, the Dell didn't recognise that a new usb device was plugged in and showed nothing on the system icons regarding a usb device.
I resorted to downloading it to our old W7 Dell laptop and it sync'd ok.
Is there an incompatibility with W8 and the Z10? It had no troubles seeing the 9800 when plugged into the same port.
    Thanks

    Hey sevilla315,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Are you currently connected via Wi-Fi on your BlackBerry Z10?  Is the BlackBerry Z10 charging when you plug in the USB cord?  Have you tried a different BlackBerry USB cord?
Has it ever been detected on your PC?
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • Usb devices not working after 2.6.38 kernel upgrade

    Hello everyone,
today I've upgraded my aur system to the latest packages version , kernel 2.6.38-2  .
After the reboot the usb keyboard doesn't work at all , as the usb mouse, leaving me struck at the login screen .
If I try to modify kernel boot parameters in grub or in a live distro  (sysrescd) the keyboard works flawlessy .
    Any clue ?
    thanks in advance

I just updated to 2.6.38.7-1. The USB devices that I have plugged in before booting work (e.g USB headset). If I try to insert a new USB device, it isn't recognized. Flash-disks and USB mice that worked under the last kernel aren't working at all.
Is there a command that lets you "turn on" a USB device, or force the kernel to recognize it? I tried messing around in /sys/bus, but even in the root shell, I got "invalid write" errors.
    Interesting snippet from dmesg;

  • Any USB Device Installs Cannot Find Drivers - x40 SP3

I am running Windows XP SP3 on an X40 2371-HU3. I am unable to install new USB devices such as an RF mouse + keyboard and a multifunction printer. Importantly, I *am* able to connect new removable storage devices with no trouble.
The error occurs when I reach the stage of the install process where Windows prompts me to direct it to the driver. I manually direct the driver installation wizard to whatever location the driver files are located in... the wizard looks in the location, and promptly reports that there is no appropriate driver to be found.
This happens with the following USB devices:
    Brother MFC-8660DN
    Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110
    Belkin portable USB hub
    HP OfficeJet 4255
This problem has been going on for months without me fully realizing it, so I cannot point at the installation or uninstallation of any particular piece of hardware of software that created this problem.
This one has me stumped, folks. Thanks in advance for your help.

OK I have an idea what might be going on here. Let's try this:
    1. Unplug the Brother MFC-8660DN USB cable.
    2. Download and install the Windows XP driver package for the MFC-8660DN from the Brother web site.
    3. Plug the USB cable back in.
Windows XP includes drivers for nearly all USB storage devices, so they usually work without any additional drivers.
Windows XP cannot find drivers for the printers you list because it has none. Before plugging into USB, you have to install them from the manufacturer's web site downloads or from the CDs which came with them.
I confess I am a bit puzzled as to why XP doesn't find drivers for the USB hub - is it a fancy model? I would also have expected Windows XP to have some basic drivers for the mouse and keyboard, but usually there are manufacturer drivers which give access to more advanced features.
Hope this helps get you a step in the right direction!

  • Shuffle wipes memory on connecting to new usb???

my sons shuffle wipes its memory when it is connected to a new usb device on a different pc. how do we get around this?

    Hi, Pinch,
Take a look at this posting:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1978651&#1978651
Follow the thread and you'll find a procedure that allows you to take the music off your shuffle. It can be done. You don't have to lose all that music. The files are "hidden" files.
Let us know how it works for you.

  • USB devices are changing address afte reboot?

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed USB devices changing their adresses after re-boots.
I had one customer that was using two USB DAQ devices and had repeated problems with starting his application until after I added some code that queried the devices and assigned device ID's as indicated by their type.
I just got off of the phone with another customer who had a similar problem with a USB to serial device showing up as a different device.
    So....
    1) Has anyone else seen issue of this type?
    2) Any ideas or suggestions to make sure the address swapping does not happen?
    Thank you!

    Greetings Ben,
The way the devices will behave when plugged in or when the computer restarts will depend on which driver is being used.
DAQmx Base:  DAQmx Base has no memory of previous devices.  Devices will be named dev1, dev2, dev3 as they are enumerated.  The first detected device will become dev1.  For this reason it is possible for the devices to "trade" their names.
    Scenario:
    1) Begin with two USB devices.  Use LSDAQ to note the serial numbers of the devices corresponding to dev1 and dev2.
    2) Remove dev1. Note that dev2 now becomes dev1.
    3) Re-connect the original dev1.  It will now be named dev2 and you have essentially "traded" your device names.
DAQmx:  DAQmx will associate a serial number with a device.  For this reason, the devices should never trade names unless MAX loses association.  This can occur for example if the device is deleted from MAX.
    Scenario:
    1) Connect one USB device and note the associated name in MAX.
    2) Remove the device and note the red "X" in MAX showing the device is not present.
    3) Connect a new USB device (different serial number).  The new device will show up under a new device name (dev#, where # is the first unused positive integer) and the orignal device will remain with the X.  If reconnected, the orignal device will assume the old name and the X will disappear.
Have you been experiencing something which differs from the above scenarios?

  • W520 only seeing USB devices after restart

My w520 has been acting rather strange recently.   It's actually been acting up for some time but i've ignored it (kind of like putting the black tape over the check engine light).
Most of the issue seems to revolve around my USB.  At some random point in time after starting up my machine, it will stop seeing new usb devices that I plug in unless I restart. Once I restart it sees everything fine.  I can even plug new devices in. However after a while if I try to plug something new in, it won't show.  Likewise it also won't see SD cards that I plug in to the SD slot.
I'm also having an issue where if I try to shut down or restart, the computer will never shut down windows.  It just sits there saying 'shutting down windows' forever, until I just hold the power button to kill it.
    any ideas?
    thanks for any help

Are you sure it's not devices you have already added to the system before where this is happening? I ask because I have seen similar but it was devices that had already been attached to the system at some point and reattaching them (actually it was an external HD in my case --the external adapter was faulty and would only work sometimes and was not always detected by the OS when reinserted either). Interesting about the reader because I think it too is a USB device (and you mentioned it ;-)). Just an fyi I have also seen similar shutdown behavior on my w520 and that was associated with issues with another USB device, in that case it was the drivers (backing back down to the previous drivers resolved the issue and the laptop would then shutdown properly again. You will have to try to narrow it to the specific device causing the hang. What I would do is just get everything USB at a baseline and then start uninstalling and testing things. You seem to have a couple, related things, going on here but perhaps different root issues. Maybe focus first on the SD cardreader. What are the other devices not detected?
(Sorry for the edits, had to think about the similar issues I had).

If you just bought the iMac and the Sjuperdrive take the superdrive back and get a refund. The by any other brand external DVD drive that connects by USB and try that. Most come with a Y USB cable to allow you to connect to 2 USB ports to supply enogh power to the drive IF Needed.
Or take both back and get a refund on both, you have 14 days to return it no questions asked, and buy another iMac and some other brand external DVD drive.

    Hi
does anyone know how to fix the message on my iMac:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
This is a brand new machine and did not have anything attached to the USB ports"
    Thanks for any help

If you are getting that message on a brand new Mac with nothing connected to the USB ports, take it back. It is broken.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

I have a new IPod Nano and when trying to connect to my PC for the first time I get a fault message that says the "USB Device is not recognized by my computer. Hello JETaylor2015,
Congratulations on your new iPod nano!  I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes or my computer.  I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized:
