Poor Rendering of video in 10.4.7

After upgrading to 10.4.7 the rendering of videos purchased from iTMS has deteriorated significantly. There is much more pixelation and the experience when the window is maximized is unacceptable. What used to be fuzzy is now blotchy. This is especially bad in cartoons content as the lines are all jagged. It affects iTunes playback and Quicktime equally.
Am I alone in noticing this degradation?

Hello Don.
So which version of Mac OS X are you running now. What do you do to go back and forth to Mac OS 10.4.6 and Mac OS X 10.4.7?
What type of account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
In Mail, open Window > Activity Viewer. What do you see there when Mail refuses to quit? Actually, you may be able to avoid having to force quit Mail by canceling whatever it's doing (by clicking on the red stop icon of the activity).
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. What do you see there?
Do you have any third-party Mail plugins? Do you have either a /Library/Mail/Bundles or a ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder in the Finder?
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

There is very little software on the pc, a couple of games, no itunes, Downloading software and very little running in the background. I use Window Defender and Anti virus and have recently done a re instal of windows and everything is updated driver and software wise, including skype.
The Ipad is the Apple air.
When connecting to my Wife in the Uk the reception isnt great picture wise and after a little while gets bad and also disconects alot and then comes back with a worse picture and call quality. I have even had the bad connection pop up. I have ran speed tests at these points and all are showing fine.

  • Low Memory when rendering a video file (Win 8.1; HP Envy 700-230qe)

Rendering a 4-minute video (with several video tracks) using Sony Vegas Pro13, keeps stopping around 70-80% of completion --- saying that there's low memory.
How could that happen on a HP Envy 700-230qe with 32GB DDR3 memory?
I look at the Task Manager:  the  "Commited" memory keeps increasing during the rendering until it hits the full number (36 GB in my case)  and then the memory is depleted, which stops the render.
(No changes to the system except addition of an SSD drive as main drive, and a Blu-ray burner)

  • Adobe reader x has poor rendering. Some few bugs in there.

Adobe Reader X has some few adds and a beautiful interface. The product however has poor rendering especially when i try to copy text that exeeds to the next page not in view. The find box also creates some patches on the screen while scrolling, blocking text. It also takes a long time to respond when document is minimised for a long time: the tool bar disappears or becomes blank; menu bar has blotches; and reading screen sometimes appear black.

  • CS review not useful for presenting UI comps due to poor rendering

I really want to love CS review. It could become such an important part of my workflow that I'm willing to overlook many of the small shortcomings (lack of printing, no versioning, clunky illustrator UI, etc) until they can be improved.
Unfortunately the show-stopper for me is the poor rendering of small elements at full scale. Illustrator CS5 goes a long way toward making it easier to create sharp and precise UI elements but that precision is lost as soon as the file is uploaded to acrobat.com. I believe it is the conversion to pdf (or flash?) format that is causing the issue.
I have tried sharing vector artwork from within Illustrator CS5; rasterizing elements before sharing; and exporting PNGs (which look perfect when viewed in photoshop) first and then uploading. but all result in the same chunky, fuzzy, imprecise typography and graphics.
This could be fixed by native support for PNG format but I'm concerned that adobe will hold fast to the idea that PDF is the universal document format and that there's no need to support anything else.
If i'm missing something here please share your tips. Otherwise, it looks like i'll be switching back to conceptshare.

  • Poor Rendered Video Quality PE7

    Hi All,
I've been running the trial of PE7 for a few weeks comparing against my existing copy of Pinnacle 10 and trial of Power Director. I love the interface and edit abilities, however when I generate DVD files and view them the result from PE7 is of a much lower quality than from Pinnacle or Power Director.
I'm using the default quality settings in each of the programs and viewing all with the same DVD viewing software (AVS Player). The originating AVI that was edited was captured using Pinnacle, but I imported it into PE7 and rendered a PE7 DV AVI for editing to make sure I was working with PE defaults. The picture seems to be more grainy and less vibrant in color with PE7. Of course having the big black "PE7 Trial" directly across the middle of the screen doesn't help with comparison (what possessed them to put the watermark directly across the focal point of the viewfinder?), but I'm pretty certain the PE7 files are not as good.
Is there some setting that I'm missing that would make the video from PE7 that much worse than the other two products? I can't believe that the Adobe product would be that much worse without someting I'm doing wrong or missing.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    Dale

    Dale,
The test of each program would be to author a DVD (use RW, so you don't spend a bunch of $ on test DVD's) and then watch that through a DVD software player on the computer, or on a set-top player to TV.
As for the display in the programs, there are a couple of things to look at. In PE, if your DV AVI Clip shows a green line, above the Timeline, it does not require Rendering. If it's red, just hit Enter, to Render it. If you Rt-click on the Display Monitor, you can choose Fit, or one of several resolutions - choose 100% and see if your display improves. Fit is basically a "draft preview," sized to fill the Display Monitor, where 100% should show the actual detail.
It's been a long time, and several versions ago, since I last used Pinnacle, but I was less than impressed by its "monitor" back then. However, I am going both from memory and also this was on a previous laptop. Though it also had a 17" monitor, the rez was way down (totally different GPU), than what I am now using.
I have Power Director on my workstation (dual 21" CRT Hitachi 915's), and I see no difference between it's display, and that in P-Pro2, when I switch it to 100%. They both look the same to me. Do not have PE on the workstation, and do not have Power Director on the laptop, so I cannot compare those in an A-B situation.
Going back a couple of versions of P-Pro, Adobe went from DirectShow display to a common display engine for all of their programs. It has been my experience, when setup to 100%, that their displays are equal to, or better than, any program using DirectShow. This is for footage that does not need to be Rendered, or that has been Rendered, and is for 100%, and not Fit. I do not know if Pinnacel and Cyberlink still use DirectShow.
One last item to consider is the display settings on your monitor. Because Adobe does not use DirectShow any more, you could have differences there. I'd spend just a bit of time with the settings on your monitor, both in the Windows' Display, and in your GPU's utilities, to see if you can "calibrate" your monitor for best viewing of the Adobe display engine. In my nVidia Quadro 4500FX control panel, I have one setting for "Print Work," and one for "Video," and my needs fluctuate between the two. I also use Adobe Photoshop's Adobe Gamma utility to set things up for my print work. It is no longer included in the latest CS3-CS4 Photoshop.

  • After rendering the video is blurry and pixelated.

I have 70 + hours invested in this edit.  I recently rendered it for the first time and it became blurry and pixellated.  I published it to see if it would come out clear but it did not.  I found the tab for deteting rendered files and this seemed to help a little.  I published that one and it was a little less blurry but still poor quality.  How can I get the video back to the pre-render quality.  I am using Powerpoint slides saved as jpegs.  I did this in another video and the finished video was super clear, however, now after I rendered this one I am unable to get that same quality.

You need to supply more details than you have in order to get to the core of the issue.
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running? What do your computer resources look like, installed and available RAM, total and free hard drive space, location and free space for the Scratch Disks?
What are the properties of the source media that you are putting on the Timeline?
Based on the properties of your source media, what is the project preset that you or the program are setting in the new project dialog?
Video (video audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, duration, PAL vs NTSC, camera source, etc.)
Photos (how many, what format, what pixel dimensions)
What is your export choice and settings?
Let us start here and then we can decide the troubleshooting strategy.
    Thank you.

  • Mouse Lag and poor performance. Video Card or Power?

Not specifically a FCP question but related. I recently purchased a new rig. Here are the specs.
    2 X 2.93Ghz 6 Core/16GB RAM/ ATI Radeon 5870 video card.
I am having very odd mouse lag problems that are quite annoying. I am also having issues with playing sequences in unlimited RT. A guy in our office can play back better with an quad core. In regards to the mouse problem I have tried several different mouse and keyboard issues including a Wacom tablet and I get the same poor results.
Some people say it could be my video card and some say it could be a dirty power issue. I took the rig back to the store and the tech geek in the back said it worked fine for him but when I showed up with the keyboard and mouse to test it he had boxed up the computer and gone home.
Here is a clip of the screen and the weird jumpy jittery problem I am having.
    http://pdvpro.com/stupid_mac/
You can see the mouse and the window I am dragging freeze for a second even though I am mousing smoothly and continuously. The mouse and keyboard and Wacom tablet work perfectly on my old Dual Core.
    Any ideas?

According to your video, it's happening in Finder, not just FCP,
so it must be something systemwide.
Is there something running in the background, like Spotlight indexing?
System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy add your disks to be excluded.
Anything else running in the background?
Anything weird connected to your USB?
Also turn off your Airport or any network connection and repeat the test.

  • Premiere Pro cs6 keeps crashing when im editing or rendering a video

When I am on Adobe Premiere Pro cs6 every 10-20 mins it crashes when im editing a video, it crashes more often when im rendering it (export media, ctrl+M). I dont mind when it crashes while im editing because i save the file regularly but when im rendering its a problem, it probably because the file is too big as i use dxtory to record skyrim but this is an expensive product so it should be able to render. I encode the file once ive chosen the format and stuff for the video and it says finish rendering in 50 mins or so and when it gets to like 4% rendering it says not responding. It then troubleshoots but then says 'close program'. this is very frustrating, please can someone help me. • Poor rendering of 3d pdf on Mac Pro

I'm in a limbo between Apple and Adobe. Although I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who uses 3d pdf diligently and try to do it on a fullgrown Mac. It started when I took my previous MacPro (Mid 2010) in use almost 4 years ago. All 3d-pdfs I tried to render on the machine lacked transparency and materials. The same file on an iMac or a PC looked like I wanted. I complained but the great As blamed each other. And I gave up the fight.
I resently bought a new MacPro (late 2013), partly in the hope that I would get a video card that was supported by Adobe/Apple. But no. The same dreary rendering without material properties. On this machine, I have installed Windows 8.1 throuhg bootcamp. And when I run Reader on Windows my 3d-pdfs looks as I expect. The same machine, the same graphics card, the same file ...
Am I the onely one experiencing this problem? Can I do anything about it?

    Ok my images are removed...
But I cant give it up yet. Am I the only one experiencing this problem??? Here are 2 shrunk images. First from Acrobat Reader running on Mac OS 10.92:
Then Acrobat Reader on the same Mac Pro (late 2013) running on Windows 8.1:
Notice the semi transparent ceiling and more vivid colors.
I have an old post regarding the same problem on my previous Mac Pro here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3311368

  • IChat: Poor Audio and Video

Hi everyone, hoping for some insights into improving my connection.
Well, I've read everyting I can find and whilst I can now connect - (DON'T put iChat and Skype in the Login items) - I'm getting pretty unuseable audio and video.
Here's what I've tried and where I'm at:
    QT streaming is at 1.5
    iChat is on None
    Mac Firewall is OFF
I connect via WIFI to a "FreeBox" - a combi router and modem here in France issued by my ISP.
For simplicity I've put my iMac in the DMZ on the router setup page.
The iMac has never run anything before 10.4.8
    I do DHCP manually.
There is an AIrport Extreme card inside (AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 4.80.46.0
    NO iChat add-ons
Bandwidth... the last speed test says 2,27 Mbit/s down and 136,17 kbit/s up
I Just tried chatting with defcom1 (thanks mate!) and it was really bad - from my end. At his it was apparently OK...???
Would really appreciate some thoughts on this
    CHeers, Adam
    iMac C2D 2GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Is this the speed your ISP is providing or was this
something that was recommended here on these forums?
This QT setting is as recommended here in the forums
Do you have a Direct Subscriber Line (DSL) or is it
    faster?
    Yes, it's a 2Mb DSL line
Obviously you are using the built in iSight camera
and the lighting is OK. Can you try an external
    camera, possibly a firewire camcorder?
Haven't access to any other cameras...
Incidentally, I've never had to be in the DMZ but I
don't think this is going to be an A/V quality
    issue.
I wanted to establish that this wasn't related to any ports not being open or whatever. Being thorough.
    Any other ideas ?
I'm gathering strength to physically move the iMac down to the "FreeBox" (modem/router) and try the same with an Ethernet connection so as to rule out poor WiFi, but I'm not convinced about it.

  • Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?

Hi there! I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)
I would appreciate every help:) my laptop is dying...i need something new and better;)
    cheers stephs

Regardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.
Also, you don't need to take our word for any of this; read what Adobe has to say on the matter: FAQ: What computer and components should I buy?

  • Poor quality streaming videos

I've noticed that my imac can't handle or should I say doesn't have the same quality streaming playback as my PC. I thought mac's were meant to handle media, graphics, video's & such. I'm presently running with what came with my OS which is Quicktime 7 & I downloaded the newest version of media player but the picture quality on both are very poor with visible pixels & frequent stalling & pausing. Can anyone suggest a program out there or maybe I've got something setup wrong.

Quicktime 7 & I downloaded the newest version of media player but the picture quality on both are very poor with visible pixels & frequent stalling & pausing.
Poor quality video is usually the result of low resolution media files being streamed to you, If you play any of the movie trailers on the Quicktime site, for example, you can see the high quality of streaming video that is possible in Quicktime.
I cannot recall visiting any sites recently that have high quality feeds for Windows Media Player. Many of the WMP feeds I have seen look fine if you keep the player window on the small side, but rapidly disintigrate as you enlarge the window. I have to admit I have not looked for sites with WMP content, so what I have seen is just that which I have come across.
