Poor resolution of slide show on CD

Created slide show in Photoshop Elements 5.0 and burned to CD.  Resolution was poor and it did not play in a DVD player.  Sales person insisted bundle of Photoshop Elements 8.0 and Premier 8 would allow me to create a DVD.  Tried editing my Elements 8.0 slideshow in Premiere.  Playback "stuck" and resolution poor.  Saw forum where I should  "render" the slide show.  My 10 minute slide show took 6 1/2 hours to render and then the whole thing crashed and it still isn't rendered.  Decided to try building the slide show in Premiere.  Cannot sync my music to the slide show (so it all ends at the same time) and have found nothing to tell me how.  Decided to go back and try to burn the CD in Photoshop 8.0 as these are Christmas gifts.  Resolution is so bad I would be embarrassed to give it.  Have called Adobe support and held for 20 minutes before giving up and sent an email to support a week and half ago and have not had a response.  Can anyone help?  Right now I'd just be happy to give the CD slide show in a decent resolution from elements.

I can't help you with the premiere elements problems, but VCD is an innately horrible format. You should be able to burn a regular video dvd by outputting your PSE slideshow as a WMV file and sending it to PRE to do the dvd authoring, or by using whatever dvd writing software came with your burner.
There is no such thing as a decent quality, reliably-playing VCD, unfortunately. They're always awful.

  • Pixel resolution for slide show photos

    Hello all,
What is the best pixel dimensions for doing a slide show to be watched on a hd lcd tv? I just did some at 1366 x 768 that seemed to work pretty well, but maybe the files don't even have to be this big...
Also I have a few photos that really flicker in the slide show...is there a way to eliminate this flicker?
    Thanks,
    Norm

    Hello Tom,
Thanks for the info. My tv that I will be playing the dvd on is 1366 x 768, so my question is what is your reason for making the images 1280x720? Won't this make my images smaller on my tv or do they get resized?
I will try the blur in Photoshop and see if that corrects the flicker problem.
I tried the Flicker filter but I'm not sure if it even got applied to the problem images. I selected the image in the time line and then went up to filter and selected flicker...does this automatically apply when these steps are performed?
    Thanks again.

  • Dreamweaver website with flash slide showing showing graphics poorly

    Hello,
I put this problem up in Dreamweaver and Flash and got some questions from couple people but no answer yet. Adobe tech support is only available mon though fri so thhey are not available, so I thought I would try here.
I have a flash slide show I built for a dreamweaver website  that contains vecctor images that are losing quality when I run my  domain site. I have tested the flash file in flash looks great. I have  previewed in live view in dreamweaver graphics look smooth but when I  load up my files to ftp to my host account and test from there the  quality of the edges of the vectors is not smooth. I see lots of jagged  edges and not sure why.
I  test everything on my 24 inch monitor so the graphics are probably  enlarged but even when I test the flash file in flash and the html file  of my hard drive to a browser like firefox my graphics are smooth, so  not sure if its resolution problem.  also tested my website on my laptop  which is a smaller screen 15 inch  and the graphics look bad on the  website from there too. Soi f it were a  resolution problem I think the  15 inch screen would be showing the  graphics smoothly not jagged. ?????
Does  anyone have any ideas or could assist me with this problem? I

    http://johannabresnahan.com
please keep in mind when tested in flash, dreamweaver (live view and firefox browser from my hardrive html files the graphics all appear smooth and good quality. its when I transferred them by ftp to host server files and preview there and enter in my website url that the quality of the graphics and text in the graphics is jagged in many areas.
I spoke with the domain tech support too but did not get the answer but some thoughful input.

The key answer to this problem was to import the files in the original native form ai not jpeg for the
vector illustrations which kept the quality of the text that was converted
with create outlines tool in illustrator to make each character its own independent graphic
to be independently scalable to maintain its quality. Since most of the problems I was having were related to the text inside each artwork was rendered poorly in the finished slideshow on my live website url. The digital photography images were never a problem. The commentary and feedback in the dreamweaver forum helped me to figure out how to resolve the issues I was having.
I just thought I would post here in case anyone was wondering.

  • I made a slide show using imovie.  When I play it back on my imac, the slideshow looks perfect.  However when I burned in via iDVD and play the disc, the resolution drops off.  The video appears fuzzy and not sharp.  Any ideas why?

I made a slide show using imovie.  When I play it back on my imac, the slide show is crystal clear and sharp.   I burned a disc of the slide show using iDVD.  When I played the dvd the resolution is very poor.  Fuzzy and shakey images.  I tried various solutions, Apple tec told me to go to preferences on iDVD  and select "professional" to get higher resolution. Tried that but results still the same.  Any ideas?

When you play on your Mac, you can have resolution up to 1920x1080.
When you burn to iDVD you convert to 640x480.

  • What is the best way to save and copy high resolution slide show?

Creating and saving/burning slide shows in iMovie or iDVD does not appear to give the same high resolution as playing slide shows directly from iPhoto.  Resolution is also lost when exporting the slide show to iTunes.  Is there a recommended technique to preserve resolution when saving a slide show?

Click the "Export" icon on the bottom of the application window.
Click the "Custom Export..." button on the bottom left hand side of the new menu that appears at the top of the application window.
At the bottom of the next window click the "Options..." button.
Under the "Video" setting, click the "Size..." button.
Next to "Dimensions:" click the "Compressor native" drop down menu.
In there you have "1920 x 1080 HD".
There are a bunch of other options, so explore and find what works best for you.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,

  • Elements 7 Slide Show - resolution

I am doing a slide show for the first time.  Photos were clear on the screen until I put them in the slide show.  In the slide show, they are no longer sharp when I run the slide show on my computer.  I need to put these on a disc to be shown on a screen for a group to watch.  Is there something I can do to make the pictures clearer?
If you can help me, please use very basic steps.  I am very new to using this.  Thank you!

    please post some additional information
(I know these are alot of questions, but we do need more information. So just ask if you do not understand my questions.)
    - post the specific choices that you made when you did the Output command from the PSE slide show editor.
-- what is the resolution of the monitor on which you did the slideshow playback ?
-- what software did you use for playback and did you play back at full screen  ?
I need to put these on a disc to be shown on a screen for a group to watch.
We also need more information on the method of playback for viewing by the group.
Projector hooked to a PC?  What software on the PC will be used for playback? What is the resolution setting for the projector?
As an example, when I play back in a classroom where the projector is connected to a computer running Windows and playback is done using the Windows Media Player software,  I found I get best results if I match the output of the wmv file that I create from PSE slide show editor to the resolution at which the projector will be set.
However, if the disc that you will be creating is a standard video DVD and the playback will be from a DVD player or DVD playing software, then you don't have a choice on resolution - it needs to be DVD-NTSC  (in the USA). In that case it is better to evaluate playback quality using DVD player software on your PC instead of evaluating full screen slideshow preview within PSE.

  • Why poor quality slide show?

I own a 20" iMac purchased last January. I just produced my first slide show by sending some travel photos from iPhoto to iDVD and then burning them to a DVD. The results were very disappointing. The photos looked poor, either when viewing them on my TV set or on my computer. The original photos were high quality JPEGs taken with a Nikon D200 and looked great, but the same photos in the slide show were not nearly as sharp and looked like they were out of focus. I am wondering why the quality of the photos was degraded in the process. I will appreciate any insights on what might have gone wrong and suggestions on what I can do to produce an acceptable slide show.
Also, I did not program any music to be played along with the slide show, but when I played it, lo and behold, there was a musical accompaniment throughout the entire show. The music piece was nice, but it was a short composition that repeated itself innumerable times during the show to the point where I muted it. I would also like to know why I got music that I didn't program into the slide show.

  • How to burn decent resolution slide show onto DVD ?

First of all I'm a newbie to this (PS8 Elements and Premier). I have a slide show with music in "Slide Show Editor". When I view this slide show in 'Full Screen Preview" I see a decent resolution but when I burn the slide show onto a DVD the resolution sucks if it's shown in "Full Screen". ( the slide show looks decent if shown in a smaller screen). I took the pictures with a 7 mega pixel camera. Another thing that happens when viewing "Full Screen" in the burned DVD is the text (if it fills the whole screen) some text is hidden around the borders.I burn the DVD in the Premier program.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try what you typed but the
hard part will be figuring how .

  • Transferring slide shows in full resolution

I'm trying to transfer my old slide shows from an older version of iPhoto to my new computer with iPhoto '08. When I try to export the slide shows they are reduced to a low resolution, not suitable to show on the television. How can I transfer them in full resolution?

Simply move the Library from the old machine to the new machine, don't export the slideshows.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Poor resolution on playback of PNG slides

I'm making a video presentation consisting of *.MOD segments and PowerPoint slides that have been converted as 25-90 KB *.PNG slides.  I burn the DVD. On playing the DVD on TV,  the slides have very poor resolution. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give.

    Welcome to the forum.
What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of those PNG images. File size does not really mean anything in video.
What is your Project's Frame Size in pixels, say 1920 x 1080?
Exactly how did you convert the PowerPoint "slides" to PNG?
Good luck, and please let us know a bit more.

  • Premiere Elements 11 Slide Show Resolution Issue

Whenever I make a slide show using Premiere Elements 11, it significantly reduces the resolution of my pictures.  How do I fix this?

    Pat
A workflow for you to explore....
Premiere Elements 11 presumed on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit in a NTSC setup
    1. Batch crop/resize your photos to 1920 x 1080 16:9
    2. Open Premiere Elements 11 its Expert workspace
Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings
In Change Settings, set the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 @29.97
In the new project dialog that you see immediately before closing out of that area, make sure to have a check
mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
    3. Back in the Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets to import your 100
photos into the project. (You can arrange your photos in order in a folder and then import the folder into the
project. When your drag that folder from Project Assets to the Timeline, the folder disappears and you have
all your photos on the Timeline in order. In your naming of the files, you might want to consider 0001 to 0100.
    4. When it comes to export...
For 856 x 480 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (when the video is stretch for display after encoding)
    Publish+Share
    Disc
    DVD disc
    with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD
For 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second - plays on Blu-ray or multimedia player, not DVD player
    Publish+Share
    Disc
AVCHD disc (this is going to be for DVD disc)
    with preset = H.264 1920 x 1080i NTSC Dolby
For 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second - plays on Blu-ray or multimedia player, not DVD player
    Publish+Share
    Disc
Blu-ray (this is going to be for Blu-ray disc)
    with preset = H.264 1920 x 1080i NTSC Dolby
The Premiere Elements 11 project preset which is the same for all of the outputs, gives the sharpest end product
photos at the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc level. Photo clarity should be the major perk of what is described above.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

The Mac software - iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD are not the best with the Ken Burns effect (zoom in/out effect), so you might want to minimize that effect; also, if your subjects are wearing stripes for instance, that will have an effect if you zoom. There is better software available for slideshows; however, I do not know of any that is free (and does a good job). I've used Photo to Movie for some time; it does a fine job even in HD, but you have to pay for it. I use iDVD extensively, but only to add a menu, theme, special effects, etc. and then to burn it.

  • Imported slide shows in Final Cut Express are poor quality

I just bought Final Cut Express (so it's the latest). I know this problem isn't unique to Final Cut, but when I import a slide show created in iPhoto or Fotomagico into Final Cut (or into iMovie HD, for that matter), the quality is poor. What I am trying to do is to create a movie that integrates a slide show with video, and output it to a DVD. The slide show uses "Ken Burns Effect."
I have tried outputting the finished slide show in various formats (m4v, dv) to try to improve quality, to no avail. This is even before the movie is outputted to a DVD- it's just viewing the rendered product on-screen. I'm guessing that the output from the slide show apps is compressed, then recompressed when rendered in Final Cut.
For a small upgrade price, Fotomagico has an HD output option. Would that improve things or is that the wrong tack to take? How do professionals do this sort of thing? How might I do it?

Slides never look as good on TV because you are drastically reducing the original size of probably 1920x1200 to around 720x576 which ruins the quality.
Furthermore, the fine detail is likely to jitter and shimmer due to interlacing artifacts.
You can reduce the jitter with the De-interlace filter but it will do nothing for the sharpness.
The only way you can get high quality is to produce your video in high definition and play it back on an HDTV.
Having said that, I routinely apply the de-interlace filter to all my slides and when played back on my HDTV the standard definition looks remarkably good. (But they look much worse on a CRT TV.)
