Poor signal/loss of channels

Hello all. I recently lost BBC1 due to 'poor signal/lost connection' but all other channels (including BBC) were ok. The next day ITV1 channel lost due to same issue (but again, not all ITV channels). Checked aerial leads ok which they were. Just done factory reset after googling for advice and after scanning for channels again have lost numerous other channels, including 1-10 (first channel now listed is 11).
Any advice for me please? Please bear with me - I am not very technical!
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Purging the channel list can sometimes restore missing channels. Remove the aerial and do a channel scan, which will clear the list. Then replace the aerial and scan again.

  • New router WRT160N, but still same poor signal!!

    Hi all,
Been having issues with my wireless signal being poor and/or intermitent.  I won't pretend to be computer literate, but I asked a Techie friend about this, and he suggested that I but a new router with the "N" signal.
My desktop signal is fine, but i have 3 laptops, and can be 30 feet away and get a fair/poor signal.  When I go into the bedroom, which is upstairs, and in the furthest distance away from the router, the signal gets even weaker.
My Techie tried everything to bump up the signal, trying all channels, and even moved the router around the room.  No luck!!
My house isn't made of steel, so there is no logical explanation for this... is there?
Please  help me, and remember...I'm not real swarthy with the computer jargon,
    thanks very much

Try to change the Wireless Settings on your Router as mentioned below, i think it will improve the wireless signal strength on your computers.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Periodic signal loss on DCT700 digital adapter

Our kitchen TV is connected to the FiOS ONT via a basic digital adapter (Motorola DCT700/US). On some TV channels, the sound disappears and the picture freezes for up to a few seconds at regular intervals.
The problem affects only channels 11 through 25, as far as I can tell (I didn't try every single one!). It occurs at the top of every minute, at the instant when the on-screen clock display rolls over to the next minute. Sometimes the event lasts for only a second or so, in which case the sound resumes and the picture unfreezes after the interruption. If the signal loss persists for longer, I get a gray screen with a message that "the channel is having technical difficulties" before the program resumes. Either way, it's very annoying.
If I'm watching the same channel via the SD set-top box in the living room, or via either of the CableCards in the TiVo DVR, there is no interruption of sound or picture.
The DCT700 was installed and activated by the Verizon rep as part of my FiOS installation two weeks ago. I don't recall the problem showing up when he performed his final checkup before leaving, but it's possible we chose channels outside the range mentioned above and/or weren't watching the TV during the fairly short time interval during which the problem occurs.
I tried disconnecting the power adapter from the DCT700 for about a minute, but the problem was still present after the DCT700 restarted.

I pulled the plug and re-plugged all 3 adapters and none of them show a channel number.  Very odd.  And none of the of the manuals even reference the problem to find out how to correct it.
Do you have any idea why I'm not getting channels like CNN?  Am I supposed to be getting channels like CNN?
The "trick" of unplugging should resolve the channel display issue (it only shows up for a short period in the bottom left of the TV screen immediately after changing channels).
As Matcarl said, if you are not getting all the SD channels you are subscribed to you need to contact Verizon as the boxes have apparently not been provisioned correctly.

  • Third party router signal loss?

I have an iMac G5 and connect wirelessy to the internet with a 2Wire router which is in another room (hooked up to my laptop). For the most part I have no problems (I did have to get rid of a 2.4 GHz phone which was in the same room with the router) but occasionally I get signal loss.
Is it possible that my neighbor is stealing my signal? Or could it be their phone? I don't have baby monitors, satellite dish etc.

Is it possible that my neighbor is stealing my signal?
That wouldn't cause a signal loss.
It could be interference from any device that operates at 2.4 GHz.
Have you tried changing the channel used by your base station? Keep changing the channel until you find one that works or you run out of channels.

My Company decided to implement WLC 5508, and I changed only 2nd floor (2 APs) as lightweight and implement WLC over there as pilot testing...

  • (Bug) Google Talk on webOS 2.1 doesn't re-login after signal loss

    Device: Palm Pre 2
    WebOS version: 2.1.0
Issue:  Google Talk does not automatically re-login after signal loss (and sometimes gets into a state that it cannot re-login at all)
Description:  Whenever I lose signal (go in the elevator, into tunnels on the subway, etc...) I get logged out of Google Talk. On Palm Pre + with 1.4.5 on ATT i would never have a problem as it would always log me back in automatically as soon as (or shortly after) signal was found again, whether wifi or 3g/edge.   But on Palm Pre 2 with webos 2.1, it stays logged off.  I can manually set status to Available to re-login, but its really annoying and clearly used to work in the past.  Additionally, in certain circumstances I get disconnected and CANNOT manually log back in.  I try to set status to Available but nothing happens, no spinner, no nothing.  The only way to get this to work again is if I do a restart (or Luna restart).  I've notice this happens at my school where 3g connectivity is really poor and frequently I don't have any.  Instead I connect to the school's wifi network which sometimes disconnects.  After losing connectivity too many times and/or too many login failures, it just stops allowing me to re-login, even manually, until I restart.
This is really annoying and is a regression as it used to work in 1.4.5.  Any ideas how to fix it and/or if a fix is being worked on would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sudden signal loss..???

Very frustrating signal loss every 4-6 minutes with my Airport Extreme card in my 12" PB!
Using Linksys WRT54G wireless router. When I have a signal I get 10 to 15 bars then suddenly nothing! It spontaneously reconnects.
I have tried different channels, my SSID is set to "broadcast" and I don't have a 2.4ghz phone in the house and my neighbors are a distance away so other phones would not be a factor.
    What could be the problem?

Microwave ovens: Placing your computer or an AirPort Base Station near a microwave oven that is in use may cause interference.
No, it happens when microwave not in use.
Direct Satellite Service (DSS) RF leakage: The coax cable that came with certain types of satellite dishes may cause interference. Obtain newer cables if you suspect RF leakage.
I do have DSS but the system but it is brand new, a year old and was present when I had the other notebooks.
Certain electrical devices such as power lines, electrical railroad tracks, and power stations.
    None nearby
2.4 GHz phones: A cordless telephone that operates in this range may cause interference with AirPort communication when used. There are also other devices that operate in the 2.4 GHz range that could cause interference.
No 2.4GHz devices in the house.
Metal objects: If possible, move metal objects or change the placement of the Base Station so the path between your AirPort equipped-computer and the Base Station is free from metal objects that may cause interference.
No major metal objects in the path.
X-10 video senders (transmitters/receivers) that operate in the 2.4 GHz bandwidth.
Any other devices that operate in the 2.4 GHz bandwidth (microwaves, cameras, baby monitors, and so on).
None in the house in operation.

  • HH3 Poor Signal Upstairs

    Hi
I have BT Infinity installed which comprises of the HH3 and modem downstairs.
I live in a two bed semi-detached and my devices and connections are as follows:
    Downstairs/Connection
    Xbox/No problems
    Kindle Fire/No problems
    Laptop/No problems
    Mobile phone: No problems
    Upstairs/Connection
PC/Interimittent (ok most of the time but can struggle where a connection drops altogether)
Kindle Fire/No connection (sometimes connects but then more or less immediately disconnects, when connected only 6mbps)
    Laptop/No problems
    Mobile phone: No problems
I have tried changing channels on the router which has little effect on the Kindle. I have downloaded a wifi analyser which shows that the bedrooms upstairs have a very poor signal reaching them (although the mobile and laptop seem to deal with this very well, and the PC most times).
Can anyone offer any advice to try and get the signal better upstairs? I would have thought a house such as mine should easily get signals in all arears from the HH3 but obviously not.
    Thanks in advance

I have had a look at the wireless access points and the TP looks good. Can someone explain in n00b language what happens?
Will it plug into my router downstairs and push a stronger signal around the house? If so, its just a more powerful router then?
    Confused..
You cannot get a more powerful wireless router, the maximum transmitted power is restriced by law to 100mW.
If you read my document you can see that there are two options.
Wireless repeater that boosts the signal in an areas that has a poor signal.
    Or
Extra wireless point upstairs, connected over the mains and plugs into the home hub. See the last diagram on this
    page.
The second option is normally the best, as it gives a faster connection, but has the extra cost of the powerline adapters.
You can try the first option, but the repeater needs to be somwhere upstairs, where there is still a usable signal, perhaps in a location above the home hub.

  • Linksys EA2700 poor signal

    Hi,
Recently I bought a EA2700 Wireless router for home internet connection.
I live in Single bedroom flat and my router is placed in the main hall.
If I try to access Wifi from Bedroom, unable to connect to internet due to poor signal.
Please help me to improve the signal strentgh so that I can access the interenet any corner of my flat.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hi,
Yes channel 9 is a good channel. I also sometimes used channel 1 and channel 3 for better wireless coverage.
I upgraded the firmware of EA2700 router then do hard reset. It worked fine. I don’t have any signal concerns now.
I checked interference see this link Interference factor
You can do also a non-stop ping unlimited pings
I use this procedure in order to test the wireless signal limit.
I don’t have any signal glitches with this router. I placed the router above the floor on top of a wooden table.
I make sure my wireless adapters are update. I used Inssider also and it is a very good tool. I had it installed in my Ipad with wifi network analyzer. I enjoyed using my EA2700 because I can get a good signal and constant download speed.

  • 1.1.1 signal loss

i updated to the new firmware and had a signal loss of 2 bars to somtimes flat line at places where i had none before . took it to apple and they gave me a new one and my new phone is back to 5 bars and strong signals like it was before the update.now the firmware is at 1.0.2 and i am not going to change it unless there is a fix for it .

    penna,
you needn't apologise, the previous post was pointless and obnoxious.
I'm having a similar experience to yours. When I got my first iphone, I synced it immediately to the 1.1.1 firmware and for the next 2 weeks had horrible signal reception. It would go from 4 bars to no signal from my lifting the phone to my ear or walking 2 feet in any direction. I had no reception in my home or office. I knew it could not be an issue with ATT's coverage as my previous phone, a treo650 had excellent reception both at home and the office and throughout most of San Francisco.
I took my phone back to the Apple store earlier this week and the tech agreed to give me a replacement. To my surprise, the phone had the 1.0.2 firmware and 03.14.08G modem firmware. The tech offered to update the firmware for me but I declined. This phone has had nothing less than 4 bars since I got the phone, so it is possible my problems with the first phone was due to the firmware.
This weekend I will sync this phone (its a pain not having any contacts or calendar entries) and install the 1.1.1 firmware and if I again have poor signal reception, then I'll know the problem was with the firmware (as opposed to a hardware issue with my previous phone).
Stay tuned, I'll post again this weekend.
    regards, William

  • Canon MP620 poor signal and slow printing

Hi, I have a Mac Pro which is hooked directly up to my Time Capsule. I also have a Canon MP620 which is in another room. It communicates with my Time Capsule wireless and allows all my computers to print to it. My Canon MP620 has been working perfectly for a couple of months without any issues.
recently my wireless computers (3 PC's) which are upstairs were having slower then normal internet. It wasn't that much slower but I noticed that when I went to youtube to watch a video, the video continuously stopped.
My mom's computer was the worst though. The internet was very slow, pages took a very long time to load, similar to being on a 56k modem. Sometimes it was getting 1 mbps.
This would be intermittent though, sometimes the internet would be fast and other times it wouldn't be slow and sometimes my mom wouldn't be able to get on the internet.
I was having no problems printing to my Canon MP620 from any computer, it was instantaneous. To try to fix the internet for my mom's computer I tried changing the network password. So I had to go on each of my PC's and reconnect with the new Network Password.
But I couldn't print to my Canon MP620. It was labeled as inactive. I believe that changing the network password caused the printer to not be recognized by my Time Capsule. I unplugged my Printer and hooked it directly up to my Mac Pro like I did months ago.
I then put the Setup CD in, followed the onscreen instructions, It then asked me for my Network password which I gave it, it then asked me to unplug the printer and place it where it's going to stay. It then took 2 minutes to check the signal connection.
When it was done it said the signal was poor, it said that it could print but it may be slow. I'm confused why it was getting a poor signal. The printer is located in the same place that it's been for a couple of months.
When I first setup the Canon MP620 it had an excellent signal. I can print to the printer but it's very slow. Printing takes a long time for each page. I'm really frustrated, please help.

This is more of an Airport issue than a printing issue. Printers require a good connection because a lot of data is being sent, so it's to be expected that a poor connection will result in slower printing.
The reason for the sudden drop in connection quality could be radio interference. Perhaps someone in your neighborhood is using a wireless phone that interferes, or a microwave could interfere. Try to change the Time Capsule to a different channel (from within Airport Utility).

  • WAP200E and WAP200 as repeaters, external antennas, poor signal

I am having some weird things happen...
I have setup a WAP200E external w/o optional antenna and using (2) WAP200 internal units in separate buildings setup as repeaters.  I have added a external
Yagi 10Dbi directional antenna to both repeaters with short cables and using the standard antenna for the internal wireless needs.
Both buildings are about 200' line of sight from the WAP200E with a angle of less then 45 degrees from the WAP200E,
I am getting a signal that continually jumps from 20% - 60% Channel keep changing etc...  looks like a typically poor signal connection
I am able to access the internet from either repeater, but not reliably
    Question 1: External Antenna....
I was going to install a similar external Yagi antenna on WAP200E but I was reading that the external antenna in turned on automatically when the WAP200E
senses a antenna. Cisco only certifies one particular antenna to connect to the WAP200E and that is the  HGA9N which is a 9DBI omni directional antenna
I would much rather use a directional antenna, but I was reading that the WAP200E may not reconize any other antenna's, plus I cant find any way to determine if the WAP200E actually turns on the external antenna.   Does anyone have any experience using the WAP200E with external antennas?
    Question 2:
    SSID's on repeaters
On the WAP200E and WAP200 units, It show that that repeaters can have unique SSID's I tested them using the same SSID as the A/P and also with unique SSID's  Which approach would be the more reliable?
    Question 3:
    Freq Channels setting:
Typically I would set the channel to be fixed on all three units to keep them from hopping from channel to channel. Is my logic correct?
Is there any way to determine which channel is the best, beside trial and error?
Also, can I lock the speed to a slower setting to help improve reliability?
    Question 4:
    Bridging:
I was considering setting up one of the repeaters as a bridge can the WAP200E A/P handle communicating with a bridge and a repeater at the same time?
Does anyone have any experience using these as bridges?  I see a few issues online regarding briging with these units
Wireless is tough enough, but flakey wireless product can make you wish had a wire
Firmware... 1.20 on the WAP200E A/P unit.. I guess I will try 1.20a but the blogs say it doesnt matter
Firmware on the WAP200 unit is unknown at the moment
    Thanks in advance

    Update...
After speaking with Linksys support staff, they informed me that the antenna jacks on the WAP200 are slightly different
One jack is TX & RX and the other jack is RX only...
It is not documented or labeled as such on the device.
The support person told me it was the right jack when facing the rear of the unit with the network jack facing you. but this is the way I
had it configured... so for giggles I swapped the antenna jacks and presto it works fine
    Many thanks

  • Any noticable signal loss with the DVI-to-video adapter?

Hi, there. Would any of you happen to know whether there's an appreciable signal loss when converting from DVI to, say, composite video via the DVI-to-video adapter? I'd like to hook my MBP up to an HDTV (when I eventually get one), and I'm wondering if going through the adapter would produce a degraded picture for DVDs, compared to a direct digital connection from a DVD player to the TV.
Actually, I'm wondering the same thing about the audio connection. Any loss in audio quality when using an adapter to connect the MBP's mini-jack to an HDTV or receiver?
    Thanks much.

    ragamoffyn,
While there's no "signal loss," as such, there is a considerable loss in signal quality. However, you're over-thinking this...
HDTVs accept HDMI connections, and your Macbook Pro has a DVI output. The ports are dissimilar, but digital video signal is the same. In other words, you would simply use a DVI-to-HDMI cable. In fact, many HD cable boxes (mine included) still have a DVI port, not an HDMI port. There is no loss of signal or quality.
Really, the only difference between DVI and HDMI is the fact that HDMI transmits both video and digital audio. DVI doesn't do this, so you must resort to transmitting audio separately. Not a problem: use an optical digital cable, which your Macbook Pro will accept (as will most HDTVs). That said, you might be better off connecting the audio portion of your MBP's output to a home entertainment (surround sound??) receiver.
Now, I'm not sure about the "progressive scan" capabilities of the Macbook Pro and DVD Player. You'll have to research that yourself. I can tell you that normal DVDs can be "upconverted" by a progressive scan set-top DVD player, and the result looks absolutely stunning on an HDTV. It's not quite as good as full HD, but it comes pretty close. Also, many newer units are being made with HDMI ports. In other words, the DVD is upconverted, and the result is transmitted over a full HD connection. Best of all, these set-top boxes can be had for under $100.
BTW, the composite video you suggest is simply "standard definition," and not the best SD at that (S-Video is better). Component video (where there are three separate "RCA"-type connectors) is much, much better, but even that doesn't match digital (DVI or HDMI). Also, the DVI-to-HDMI cable you will need can be had at Walmart for around $30. They can also be found at places like Best Buy or CompUSA, but these retailers tend to over-charge for over-blown items (No one needs a "Monster" HDMI cable that costs over $100, and which does no more than the $30 cable from Walmart; digital is digital).

  • N8 poor signal reception and other hardware issues...

    I have always been a Nokia fan . I started with Nokia 6600, then N70, then N82 and now a Nokia N8.
However, I am facing the worst experience with N8 reception issues.
The problems faced are as under :
    1) Poor Signal Reception Issues - Signal strength is weak and is constantly fluctuating compared to other Nokia Phones. At my workplace, if Nokia N82 displays 5 bars, N8 would display only 1 or 2 bars.
    2) Phone freezes many times. Whenever an Alarm is enabled, phone freezed much more.
    3) Purple Tint in the display. Nokia Service Centre says that its normal but according to me, they are just ignoring this issue.
    4) Vibration is weak : I often do not realize when the phone is vibrating in my pocket !!
Upcoming Symbian Anna will just improve the user interface but will not be able to solve these hardware issues.
If Nokia plans a hardware update facility for N8 users wherein they can fix the signal reception issues and increase the RAM to 1 GB atleast, I would retain this phone for few years.
But, now, I intend to switch to Samsung Galaxy S II.

I am agree with poor signal issue with nokia N8. • No Signal on random channels

Was wondering if anyone can help me. We've lost signal on certain channels today.
The BBC channels as well as Pick TV, Dave, Really, E4+1, Movie Mix, Create & Craft, Sky News have no signal. Haven't checked EVERY other channel but they appear to be working fine.
Is this a known issue? Can anyone advise me as to how to solve the problem.
    Cheers,
    Dave

Check your local transmitter for any work
Plug aerial into TV and check if they are available on that
    Check connections
If still missing unplug aerial and scan for channels. Plug aerial in and rescan.
Still not fixed by any of the above check your aerial, boosters etc
