Poor Signal Reception Range Satellite L55-B5170sm

Hey Im experiencing poor reception on my Toshiba, it works great but it just dont get as far away as other laptops which makes me thing that the wifi receiver is really lacking some range.
Everything is working good but when I approach the meeting room it disconnects and other laptops dont. Can you explain why is that?

Keith - I have a similar issue that I wonder if you can help with please.
my parents have BT infinity in Room A and get great wi-fi signal and speed in that room. In the living room only 10 metres away, the signal is down to one bar of reception and intermittent.
i have tried many of the recommendation on these forums such as unplugging the microwave, cordless phones and nay other electrical devices. Have even done th behest to move the modem closer within the limitations of the cable lengths. None of this makes a difference.
so in line with the link above, I purchased a tp link powerline wireless unit. This carries the signal over fine via an Ethernet cable linked to the access point but there is no improvement to the wireless signal. The original BT wireless signal stays the same and the new to link wireless signal is even worse even sitting right next to the access point. I have tried different channel settings on both networks but to no avail.
am at my wits end and having spent £70 on the tap link system, am nervous of spending any more to find that doesn't work either.
my parents arenhug technical folk and I won't be over there for a while yet so don't have the bilty to test things much so was wondering where you think it could be best to start? Could I link an extra device from the access point perhaps?
any ideas would be most welcome.
thanks,
simon

  • N8 poor signal reception and other hardware issues...

    I have always been a Nokia fan . I started with Nokia 6600, then N70, then N82 and now a Nokia N8.
However, I am facing the worst experience with N8 reception issues.
The problems faced are as under :
    1) Poor Signal Reception Issues - Signal strength is weak and is constantly fluctuating compared to other Nokia Phones. At my workplace, if Nokia N82 displays 5 bars, N8 would display only 1 or 2 bars.
    2) Phone freezes many times. Whenever an Alarm is enabled, phone freezed much more.
    3) Purple Tint in the display. Nokia Service Centre says that its normal but according to me, they are just ignoring this issue.
    4) Vibration is weak : I often do not realize when the phone is vibrating in my pocket !!
Upcoming Symbian Anna will just improve the user interface but will not be able to solve these hardware issues.
If Nokia plans a hardware update facility for N8 users wherein they can fix the signal reception issues and increase the RAM to 1 GB atleast, I would retain this phone for few years.
But, now, I intend to switch to Samsung Galaxy S II.

I am agree with poor signal issue with nokia N8. I have two cell with one is N8 and other one is N26 with nearly 4.5 year old but at same place Nokia N8 showing very poor quality of network signal compared to N26. So for same network provider with two different cell with same manufacture how can drastic different that is also investing nearly RS.22000!
    Please resolve the issue ASAP.

  • Poor signal reception

The signal strength on my iphone 3gs is very weak---only one or two bars, at most.  Is there a way to fix this problem so that full signal is available?

what did your carrier say when you reported poor signal strength in your area?

  • Galaxy s5 has poor signal receptions since updates

Since the recent updates, I have very limited cell service at home (zip code 35761) as well as in the town where I work (35801) and is constantly dropping  calls and freezing up. Is there anything that can be done to correct this issue? We dropped ATT due to lack of coverage, but now it seems that is not doing us  any good.

    Hi no1cntrygrl!
I realize the importance of having operable service and I'm here to help because I don't want you to regret your decision of joining the VZW family! Have you recently downloaded any new applications? When did you complete the update? Are you dropping all or isolated calls?

  • What is the best Radio app for Iphone with poor Signal

    hi folks
i live in rural shropshire, UK and where there is a poor signal reception and no 3G so i was hoping if someone could tell me what is the best radio app with about 2-3 bars of signal on O2 please can someone help thx

Well, 2(.(7)5)G (GPRS/EDGE) is still sufficient for a lot of (mostly HE-AACv2) streams - they're between 24 and 40 kbps, . That is, first, check out whether there are favorite stations in the station directory of the HE-AACv2-specific radio app "Tuner2 Hi-Fi Radio". Note that there are other HE-AACv2-capable clients but this one is the best.
Below is an excerpt from the dedicated section of my all-in-one iPhone radio article, just discussing these questions. Sorry, there are no links or not any kind of formatting in the text - I just couldn't paste it by keeping them.
    2.1 3G vs. 2.(7)5G vs. Wi-Fi
Whenever possible, deactivate 3G (if you have a second- or third-generation iPhone used in a compatible 3G network, that is). Why? It’s easy: I’ve made some very thorough experiments with power consumption when streaming over cellular (mobile phone) connections. For this, I’ve listened to a 31 kbps VBR HE-AACv2 stream in Pocket Tunes. I’ve measured the battery life decrease of 0.6%/minute when streaming in 3G and 0.3%/minute when doing the same in 2.75G (EDGE) and 2.5G (GPRS). This means streaming 3G consumes two times more battery than in 2.75G with a stream that, when streamed over Wi-Fi, consumes 0.18% power a minute.
This also means that, even if you have an unlimited Internet data plan, try using Wi-Fi whenever possible because it’s almost two times more battery-friendly than even 2.75G (EDGE) / 2.5G (GPRS) – and 3.3 (that is, 60/18) times more so compared to 3G.
Having to rely on pre-3G stream speeds means the following:
    - If you only have GPRS connection (but not EDGE), select a station broadcasting at less than 35-40 kbps to avoid pauses and stuttering. You can easily see if your phone is in GPRS only: then, to the right of the name of your network, there is a circle and not the capital letter ‘E’ (it’s '3G' when in 3G mode and it’s here that the Wi-Fi signal is shown when operating over Wi-Fi.)
Note that, with some networks (for example, Vodafone in some? all? countries) there’s no EDGE at all. There, you either use 3G or GPRS. The latter rules out all stations with speeds over 40 kbps. If this is the case, you will most probably have to rely on HE-AACv2 (also known as AAC+) streams, should you want good audio quality and stereo sound. The other formats, MP3, AAC-LC (the two formats natively supported by the built-in QuickTime player) and WMA are completely unable to deliver good, stereo audio quality under 40 kbps; OGG is able, but around 36-38 kbps, which may result in stuttering over lower-quality GPRS connections or congested network.
You can find a lot of AAC+ streams at http://dir.xiph.org/by_format/AAC+ and http://yp.shoutcast.com/. Note that, with the latter, you will want to click radio stations with AAC+ type (see the last column). Unfortunately, unlike with collecting with MP3 stations only, you will not want to tap the header of the last, “Type” column, to order them to collect all AAC+ stations at the end of the list because it’s not possible to easily jump to the end of this list. (Tapping will only order the stations in a way that the list starts with MP3 ones; that is, stations well above 40 kbps - and the few that broadcast under 40kbps, do so with awful audio quality.)
Note that moodio.fm (which, as with the former two, stream directories, that is, xiph.org and shoutcast.com, has been introduced in section 1. Built-in capabilities: QuickTime), by default, also uses AAC+. As with the former two stations, in order to play back these AAC+ streams in an AAC+-capable radio player (the built-in QuickTime isn’t one of them) like Pocket Tunes Radio or FStream, you’ll want to copy these links to the clipboard and, then, paste them into a custom, user-defined station in these apps (as long as you don’t find a station of your liking in the built-in station directories of these radio clients). To do so,
    1. in Safari, long-tap the link and, then, select “Copy” from the context menu
    2. Switch to the radio station, go to its dedicated custom station entry dialog (with FStream, Favorites / Edit / Add new webradio at the bottom; with Pocket Tunes, Favorites / Edit / +) and tap the URL field a bit longer after cleaning it entirely (if there’s a http:// in it; with FStream, there isn’t). You’ll see a Paste flag (icon) as in this screenshot
    3. Just tap it; the station URL will be pasted to the field
    4. You can also give your station a name
(Note that you can also manipulate the favorite list of FStream via Wi-Fi, from a desktop Web browser. It offers a far faster way of adding and deleting favorites.)
Note that Pocket Tunes Radio also has a built-in Web browser. If you navigate from it to, say, m.moodio.fm or yp.shoutcast.com, you won’t need to do any copy / pasting like explained in the previous section. FStream (my other pick for HE-AACv2 playback) doesn’t have a Web browser. Note that several other (except for ooTunes, not that recommended) players also have a built-in browsers. You can do exactly the same in all of them except for eingrad’s RadioBOX, which, currently, has bugs in its Web browser: when you tap a link, the playback (if the built-in QuickTime is compatible with it) will start in QuickTime and not in the built-in player. (The developers stated they would fix this bug some time.)

  • Poor wifi reception on an iPad 2 running IOS 6

    Hi there
I've been having real problems with my iPad 2 and poor wifi reception since I upgraded to IOS6 from 5.1.1. I'm one of those people who waited for google maps to come out before upgrading so I only made the upgrade on the 19th Dec 2012.
To keep it short, since the upgrade the range at which I can pick up a wifi signal has halved on the iPad. At home I could run around the entire house and receive a signal, now I can barely leave the room that the router is situated in before the signal drops completely. I've tried this at other locations (my parents house, for example) where I know I could previously receive a good signal on 5.1.1 and this issue is the same.
I've tried all the fixes I can find on the support forums and I've tried a complete reset on the iPad. The problem remains and I cannot resolve this. I know this isn't a router problem as we purchased a new router for my father for Christmas and the same issue occurs.
I upgraded my iPhone 4 at the same time and it is fine. This problem seems to be specific to the iPad 2.
I just wonderd if anyone else has expereinced this issue?
    Cheers
    Dougie

siri is not available on the ipad 2

  • I run in an area without wifi and poor cell reception. How do I keep my tunes on the iPhone 6 plus and not in the cloud

    iPhone 6 plus,64 bit, A8 processor, M8 motion sensor, 64 GB memory, OS 8.1;
I run in an area without wifi and poor cell reception. How do I keep my tunes on the iPhone 6 plus and not in the cloud

    Hi Delecee,
You can easily do that by downloading the music before you get to that area of weak Wi-Fi and cellular signal by downloading the music directly from the Music app by tapping the cloud button next to songs. The other option is to sync the music with iTunes over USB to have the songs downloaded to your phone. Take a look at the links below to get your music downloaded to your iPhone.
    Download past purchases
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201272
Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod with iTunes using USB

    Take it easy,

How to fix the poor network reception,GPS location services issue & Battery life issue in iphone 4s 5.0.1

  • Poor Wifi Reception All Of A Sudden

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus has recently started to have very poor wifi reception in places it used to get very good wifi reception. I know for a fact it isn't my modem/router because we have multiple laptops in the house, other phones, and an Xbox connected to the internet and they all receive the same great signal they used to. I have read a lot of other forums about the Jelly Bean update having something to do with it on many other phones. I have had the Jelly Bean update for many months now and this problem has just started occurring, I am fortunate enough to have 4G where i live but i don't like using it all the time. If there is a fix i would like to know it asap! i need wifi on my phone!

took the offending ipad2 to the retail store...they restored to factory and then saw what we did: crummy reception, right inside the Apple store.  They then gave us a new one to replace the offending bad unit.
at least they are still a leader in customer support.  My suspicion is that an antenna died.

  • How can I boost ipad3's antenna signal reception?

My Wifi router name don't appear in wifi networks list when I'm in the bedroom, where as all other devises like laptop, Blackberry can see the wifi router signal very well. If I keep my ipad3 very near to the wifi router it works well.
The distance between wifi router and bedroom is not even 10 meters
How can I boost ipad's antenna signal reception to see my wifi router?
I already reset network settings and toggles airplane mode. Upgraded ios to the lastest version.

    There's no hardware solution.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Poor GPS reception in IPhone 3GS, am I the only one having this problem ?

Since I have many problems with GPS drop outs and poor signal strength errors when using navigation software for Iphone 3GS firmware 4.0.2.
First I reset my Iphone completely and installed all apps from scratch, but this has not solved my problem.
I now tried several tests to compare with both an Android phone HTC Desire and a very old Symbian phone Nokia E65. Neither the Nokia E65 or HTC Desire have any drop outs in the GPS reception while my Iphone has several dropouts, making navigation horrible.
Am I the only one having this problem ?

Unfortunately, you are not the only one (I personally use TomTom with car kit). This is one of the numerous bugs introduced by iOS4 and this one has been reported by many in this forum. Be careful not to use your iPhone based navigation system in a foreign country, due to high roaming costs ! I had to use it and nearly had an heart attack when reading the invoice.
Apple doesn't care. Unfortunately, I have to care for my budget.

  • Poor TV Reception

I am using a Miglia TVMicro, and after getting my Mac back from the shop, and having used a normal TV for the past few weeks - I realise just how poor the reception is with this device.
I am getting an analog signal through a cable connection in my apartment. I have no control over antenna, booster or anything else. The reception using the same cable and everything else is fine. I have less channels (searched using all systems), and the channels I have are often grainy with poor sound.
Any advise on how to alleviate this problem will be most appreciated.
    Regards,
    Damok

I'm using a TVMicro with the Elgato software. The picture quality on my iMac is pretty good. Not as good as with my Sony TV but I mainly use the TVMicro for saving shows and then convert them for my ipod touch.
Do you have a splitter that feeds your cable line into your TVMicro? Splitters degrade the cable signal alot. If so try a direct connect without going through a splitter.
If you've tried upplugging the cable line from the tv and then plugging that into the TVMicro and still get bad quality your TVMicro might be faulty or maybe a bad USB port.

  • Weak wifi signal or range... can't figure out which one.

I just set up my self-install kit today. Everything went well, until I tried to use the internet on my computer. The only place for the modem is downstairs, but my office is upstairs. I've had AT&T for over a year, and it has never been a problem, but with Comcast, my pages rarely load, and if they do, it takes an insane amount of time to do so. I switch back and forth between AT&T wireless and Comcast wireless to see the difference, and it def has something to do with Comcast. The signal strength ranges from "good" to -"very good", but there's not much of a change in connection. What are my options to fix thsi problem??

I assume you have one of the comcast gateway devices they are known for very poor performance. If you dont have there phone service i would return the gateway and buy your own modem and high quaility router and things will improve greatly and you will save 10.00 a month on rental fees. If you have there phone service you could also have the gateway placed in bridge mode and then use your own high quality router.
