Poor signal WITH Network extender.

Hoping to get some help here so i dont have to call verizon.
Im just recieved my verizon network extender, the SCS-2u01 model.
I installed it, waited for it to boot and and restricted it to just my wife and I phone numbers.
We are for sure connected to it, *48 confirms and get the beeps when placing calls, but im getting mostly 1 bar of service within 30feet and literally even holding the phone right up against the thing gets usually 2 bars, sometimes 3, never 4.
We just switched from sprint and with sprint we had and airave which appears to be 100% identical device, setup identical and would would get full signal
with in 40 feet(all downstairs and even outside) and 2-3 bars upstairs and way out in the yard.
Ideas? The only thing i can think of is it it 2 feet from our wireless router, although no different then the airave.

I recently started using the Sprint Airave so I should be able to contribute to this.
Network extenders only have a few pieces to them.  They have a broadband connection port which needs to be hooked up to your modem, some ethernet ports that hook up to your router/computer, an antenna for broadcasting the wireless signal and a GPS antenna for 911 emergency situations when you cannot place it close to a window.
If your signal is not strong inside your house then normal wireless troubleshooting steps should apply.  I'd suggest starting with a site survey and moving your NE around the house until you can find a spot that performs better.  Try locations close to windows and away from anything metal/electric if possible.  There might be electrical equiptment or competing wireless signals that are interfering with your reception in its current location.  If your NE is still not performing after relocating it, then contact VZW for support and a possible replacement device.
Site Survey walkthrough:

Verizon lets you manage your NE online through the My Verizon account.  Once you sign into the account you should be able to make any additional config changes that you want.  I'd look into changing the wireless channels or broadcast mode to see if there is an improvement.

  • Problems with Network Extender

We have recently moved into a metal building as our home.  Our phone signals are affected and so we did the research and bought a Verizon network extender.  The bars on our phones went straight up to 4 and the VNE works great ... up until you use the internet for anything that takes a little bandwidth.  I work in a home office over a VPN all day.  I can be taking a call and as soon as I send an email (no attachments just an email), my call becomes choppy and unusable.  I paid our ISP technician an hour's onsite visit to troubleshoot our in-home network and with his monitoring we noted that the bandwidth performance was drastically affected when the VNE is attached and working.  According to FAQs, the bandwidth required for the VNE should be nominal.  We have 10 mbps down and 4 up...and the VNE seems to cause all kinds of internet issues when plugged in.
Further, the GPS signal catches and stays for hours but then seems like when left unattended for hours the blue light goes away...if I pick up the VNE and just move it around, the GPS signal catches again. I have attached the "external GPS cable" just to see but if it gets the Blue light at all, doesn't that really mean the extra cable isn't necessary?
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can successfully use this tool?

        Hi vjamison812,
I want you to have the best experience using your cell service while at home. Every call connected to the extender should only be using an average of 40 kbps. Was the technician able to advise how much bandwidth is being used? We may need to reach out to our engineering team to confirm the manner that the Network Extender is connecting to your internet but the more information we have from your ISP, the more details we can provide. I also recommend you contact the manufacturer of your router if it's different than your ISP. Occasionally settings need to be changed to ensure better call quality.
Does the GPS light turn off or does it go from Blue to Red? The external cable is only needed when the light is Red and stronger connection is needed. Please ensure that the Network Extender is located in an open area, preferably in an elevated location near a window and in an upright position. Please provide more details as to exactly what happens with the light.
    Thank you,

  • My iphone does not connect with network extender

my ihpne 6 does not get connected via my network extender.

Make sure any Advanced Calling features are turned off.  The network extenders will not work with phones with AC enabled.

  • Is anyone else experiencing poor signal with Note 3?

Phone reception is TERRIBLE, especially inside my home. Sometimes, no signal and can't make or receive calls. Drops in the middle of conversations...VERY FRUSTRATING! I filed a claim months ago and still no improvement. What can be done other than switching to another carrier?

Well I have come to a conclusion I'm  contacting Better Business Bureau  about Verizon 's   lousy service I've been without a working service in my home since October  and they say it's a software issue.  they are gonna  let me out the contract or I'll file a complaint. May even switch to someone to buyout my contract the service is useless to me I can't use it in my home . I don't have a home phone (landline) so I have no phone service. My husband  and child have Boostmobile  they have no  issues with their service I n our house.

  • Network Extender Problem

I have had the Verizon Network Extender for several years.  I use it in a rural area.  It worked fine initially but now all our Verizon phones have trouble connecting to it, i.e.. Even when the phones are within a few feet of the extender they show only one or two bars.  #48 indicates they are connected to the extender, however if we move just a few feet away they drop the connection.  We are then unable to make or receive calls.
I should add that all lights are blue on the extender and our internet connection is good.  I brought the extender to our house in the city and even though we get good signals and connections without an extender in our house, the phones will connect and stay connected to the extender when it is installed at this location.
I should add that the rural location is on a lake and our phones will frequently show strong Verizon signals with the extender off.  However, we are almost never able to make a call or receive a call at this location unless the extender is working.
My guess is the extender emits such a low power signal that the phones are looking at towers across Lake Superior and seeing those signals as stronger than the extender signal. Again we can't connect to those towers even though the phones show bars from them.
Can the extender signal be strengthened or set higher by Verizon personnel?   It would appear that if that happened the phones would see the extender as the better signal.

Turns out my network system was assigned a "system id" that is way down the preferred roaming list of my Samsung.  The Samsung Droid would avoid it at all costs, therefore would not connect to my extender.  Once tech support changed the system ID of the extender to the same number as the area the extender is located in (318), the Samsung and all our other phones have been connecting without problems.  Thanks to Chris who received my Verizon trouble ticket and solved the problem.

  • IPhone 6 prioritizes poor 4G Connection over strong network extender 3G signal

I use the network extender due to poor coverage in my basement.  I have spent multiple hours with both Verizon and Apple trying to figure out why sometimes my iPhone 6 won't connect to it, including a hard reset of the iPhone.  I finally figure out that the iPhone 6 prioritizes getting a 4g connection, not matter how poor, over a 3g connection, no matter how strong.  As a result, my phone will occasionally latch on to a weak 4g signal and not connect to the Network Extender.  When I then get or make a call, the connection and voice quality is terrible.  The only work around is to completely turn off LTE.  This forces connection to the 3G Network Extender.  Of course, I then forget to turn it back on when I leave the house.  Are there any plans to provide some sort of a fix or a setting to make this more convenient?

PROBLEM SOLVED (so far). My wifes iphone 6 plus had the exact same issue. . .would keep going back to the weak 4G signal over the network extender.
To fix it, go into SETTINGS>CELLULAR>Enable LTE and set to DATA ONLY. . .NOT Voice and Data.
So far so good. . .only affects being able to make calls and surf the web at the same time, so if you don't do that much then you're not going to be inconvenienced too badly.
Hope it works for you!  Also, if the iPhone 6plus is like my Note3, then it has 2 antennas, 1 that's hooked into 4G and the other one that's connected to the network extender. . .it defaults to the 4G signal, so it may only show minimal bars till you actual make or receive a phone call then it'll jump to the network extender signal strength.
    Good luck!

  • Solution for Poor signal in a wireless WDS network with two Airport Extreme

I have just bought my second Airport Extreme to create a wireless network with the best possible signal. I have one Airport Extreme in my office and the second one (supposedly the remote base) in the living room, two brick walls and 7 meters away. I have follow Apple instructions for the setup, main base "Create a Wifi Network" and Extend network option selected. The remote "join an existent network" and Allow wifi clients selected. According to Apple this is a WDS network between two Airport Extreme.
The network is working and the signal from my iMac is very good in my Office. In the living room the signal with my PC laptop is also very good.
Problem is that my iPod Touch OS 3.0 (I use it as a remote control in my living room with a twonky media server) gets now a very weak wifi signal in my living room, in many cases I lose the wifi sgnal although I sit two meters away from the remote Airport Extreme in the Living Room. If I go to my office with the iPod, then I get a good signal.
I think that only the first Airport Extreme in my Office (Main Base) is emitting a wifi signal and the second Airport Extreme (remote) is only receiving the wifi signal not making a repetition of the wifi signal. (Sorry for my explanation, I am not technical on this.)
I thought that, in a WDS configuration, the remote Airport Extreme WAS suppose to also replicate the wifi signal in my living room.
I have also tried a WDS manual setup with the two airport with the same results.
Is there a solution for this?. Do I have to connect the two Airport Extreme with a wire ethernet in order to be able to have a wifi signal strong enough in my living room for my iPod Touch?.
    Thank you for your time.

Thank you Bob for your time.
I understand from your words that with a DHCP reservation I can force de Airport Extreme Main Base to assign an specific IP to a particular client in the network. Is that correct?. If that is the case, I will reserve the 10.0.1.3 to the Twonky Media Server (I need this to be fixed to this IP) and I will change the configuration of the remote Airport Extreme to DHCP automatic.
I will give it a try in a few days. I have spent so many hours with this set up that I am a bit terrified to start again today, to tired from work.
Just one last question. Setting up the remote Airport was very difficult with the Airport Utility. I had to reset and start many times as I always got two errors in the set up:
    1.- Internet not connected.
After a minute or so, most of the time the problem was corrected automatically as the remote found the main base that is connected to the internet. I got a confirmation message for this.
2.- Second problem was that Airport Utility said that it could no connect the remote to the specified network. Sometimes (not always) the remote light turn green both in the Airport Extreme and in the Airport Utility, BUT I never got confirmation of a successful installation. Nevertheless, the connection was established because the wifi network exist.
Do I have to "disable the WAN port" during the installation of the remote Airport to avoid the problems?.
    Best Regards,
    Fernando

  • Why does signal vary on network extender?

was recently supplied a network extender by Verizon, does help with signal when working correctly but though all four lights are blue on extender, sometimes we have full signal on our phones and sometimes it drops to one or two bars for no apparent reason (even if standing next to the extender)??? Disconnecting power from the extender and resetting it restores full signal, did we get a defective unit?  phones are (2) moto droid maxx's and an iphone 5s

        Jwhitler,
We're happy to assist in troubleshooting your Network Extender.   I know how important it is to be able to receive your calls and be able to depend on them.  When did this start occuring?  You stated that disconnected the power regains full signal for you.  How often do you have to perform this reset?  Are you able to move the location of the Extender?
We look forward to hearing some further details so we can assist in finding resolution.

  • I've had a network extender for 2 years and since August I can't get a GPS signal

I have had a network extender for over 2 years and have had no problems with it.   Since August, I have had nothing but trouble.  The GPS signal went out and I went through all of the Verizon troubleshooting tips and nothing worked.  They sent me a new one and it has worked for about 2 weeks however now I have the same exact problem, the GPS is red and I haven't had a GPS signal for 2 weeks now.  What is going on? How is it possible that after over 2 years of having no issues, we can't get a GPS signal?

I spoke with another Verizon tech rep and he was going to open a network trouble ticket however first he needed to gather some information.  He directed me to this site http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx
to get info on the speak of my computer and IP connection however when I began the test, there was an error and it couldn't measure my VOIP connection.  The Verizon rep said that there isn't software in the network extender and that it's based off the VOIP.  So he suggested I call my internet provider and tell them that I'm trying to use a VOIP and for some reason it's not working.  He suggested I tell them I'm trying to use Vonage and not Verizon though.  Anyway, I'm going to call Comcast tomorrow and provide them the information that I got off the http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx site.   Not sure if that will help you but I will keep you posted as to what Comcast tells me.

  • What is the best Radio app for Iphone with poor Signal

    hi folks
i live in rural shropshire, UK and where there is a poor signal reception and no 3G so i was hoping if someone could tell me what is the best radio app with about 2-3 bars of signal on O2 please can someone help thx

Well, 2(.(7)5)G (GPRS/EDGE) is still sufficient for a lot of (mostly HE-AACv2) streams - they're between 24 and 40 kbps, . That is, first, check out whether there are favorite stations in the station directory of the HE-AACv2-specific radio app "Tuner2 Hi-Fi Radio". Note that there are other HE-AACv2-capable clients but this one is the best.
Below is an excerpt from the dedicated section of my all-in-one iPhone radio article, just discussing these questions. Sorry, there are no links or not any kind of formatting in the text - I just couldn't paste it by keeping them.
    2.1 3G vs. 2.(7)5G vs. Wi-Fi
Whenever possible, deactivate 3G (if you have a second- or third-generation iPhone used in a compatible 3G network, that is). Why? It’s easy: I’ve made some very thorough experiments with power consumption when streaming over cellular (mobile phone) connections. For this, I’ve listened to a 31 kbps VBR HE-AACv2 stream in Pocket Tunes. I’ve measured the battery life decrease of 0.6%/minute when streaming in 3G and 0.3%/minute when doing the same in 2.75G (EDGE) and 2.5G (GPRS). This means streaming 3G consumes two times more battery than in 2.75G with a stream that, when streamed over Wi-Fi, consumes 0.18% power a minute.
This also means that, even if you have an unlimited Internet data plan, try using Wi-Fi whenever possible because it’s almost two times more battery-friendly than even 2.75G (EDGE) / 2.5G (GPRS) – and 3.3 (that is, 60/18) times more so compared to 3G.
Having to rely on pre-3G stream speeds means the following:
    - If you only have GPRS connection (but not EDGE), select a station broadcasting at less than 35-40 kbps to avoid pauses and stuttering. You can easily see if your phone is in GPRS only: then, to the right of the name of your network, there is a circle and not the capital letter ‘E’ (it’s '3G' when in 3G mode and it’s here that the Wi-Fi signal is shown when operating over Wi-Fi.)
Note that, with some networks (for example, Vodafone in some? all? countries) there’s no EDGE at all. There, you either use 3G or GPRS. The latter rules out all stations with speeds over 40 kbps. If this is the case, you will most probably have to rely on HE-AACv2 (also known as AAC+) streams, should you want good audio quality and stereo sound. The other formats, MP3, AAC-LC (the two formats natively supported by the built-in QuickTime player) and WMA are completely unable to deliver good, stereo audio quality under 40 kbps; OGG is able, but around 36-38 kbps, which may result in stuttering over lower-quality GPRS connections or congested network.
You can find a lot of AAC+ streams at http://dir.xiph.org/by_format/AAC+ and http://yp.shoutcast.com/. Note that, with the latter, you will want to click radio stations with AAC+ type (see the last column). Unfortunately, unlike with collecting with MP3 stations only, you will not want to tap the header of the last, “Type” column, to order them to collect all AAC+ stations at the end of the list because it’s not possible to easily jump to the end of this list. (Tapping will only order the stations in a way that the list starts with MP3 ones; that is, stations well above 40 kbps - and the few that broadcast under 40kbps, do so with awful audio quality.)
Note that moodio.fm (which, as with the former two, stream directories, that is, xiph.org and shoutcast.com, has been introduced in section 1. Built-in capabilities: QuickTime), by default, also uses AAC+. As with the former two stations, in order to play back these AAC+ streams in an AAC+-capable radio player (the built-in QuickTime isn’t one of them) like Pocket Tunes Radio or FStream, you’ll want to copy these links to the clipboard and, then, paste them into a custom, user-defined station in these apps (as long as you don’t find a station of your liking in the built-in station directories of these radio clients). To do so,
    1. in Safari, long-tap the link and, then, select “Copy” from the context menu
    2. Switch to the radio station, go to its dedicated custom station entry dialog (with FStream, Favorites / Edit / Add new webradio at the bottom; with Pocket Tunes, Favorites / Edit / +) and tap the URL field a bit longer after cleaning it entirely (if there’s a http:// in it; with FStream, there isn’t). You’ll see a Paste flag (icon) as in this screenshot
    3. Just tap it; the station URL will be pasted to the field
    4. You can also give your station a name
(Note that you can also manipulate the favorite list of FStream via Wi-Fi, from a desktop Web browser. It offers a far faster way of adding and deleting favorites.)
Note that Pocket Tunes Radio also has a built-in Web browser. If you navigate from it to, say, m.moodio.fm or yp.shoutcast.com, you won’t need to do any copy / pasting like explained in the previous section. FStream (my other pick for HE-AACv2 playback) doesn’t have a Web browser. Note that several other (except for ooTunes, not that recommended) players also have a built-in browsers. You can do exactly the same in all of them except for eingrad’s RadioBOX, which, currently, has bugs in its Web browser: when you tap a link, the playback (if the built-in QuickTime is compatible with it) will start in QuickTime and not in the built-in player. (The developers stated they would fix this bug some time.)

  • Any further options for fixing a network extender with flashing red sys light?

I've been using my network extender without any problem for a few years. Well, except it always had stopped working on occasion (maybe every 6 months) and I would have to toggle it back and forth between open access and managed on the Verizon site to get it working. That was fine, but this time it's been stuck on a slowly flashing red sys light. The power, gps, and wan lights are all solid blue. Eventually it will seem to start over with the cycle of leds but end up again at all blue except a slow flashing red sys light.
That was months ago and I've been struggling with it ever since with no luck. I tried calling support a couple of times but could never navigate through to any appropriate option for network extenders. Both times the automated system couldn't figure out what my issue was and hung up on me.
I tried power cycling my cable modem and router. I've tried the open/manage setting change on the My Verizon page for the extender. I've verified my router settings, though no equipment has been changed. I even tried assigning an IP to the network extender and configuring the correct ports for it (found a list of the port numbers somewhere else on this site).  I've of course tried leaving it off for a bit.. 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 10 hours, and ultimately a month or so. Nothing makes a difference and I'm still stuck with a slow flashing red sys light. It's frustrating as I general manage only 1 signal bar even at best in the house or around the yard. It's hardly usable even though the Verizon coverage map shows solid coverage all over my house and neighborhood.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.  Did the network extender simply die?  Is there any way to diagnose that for certain?

It is up and running again.
I just really wish they would have the courtesy to post on here, Facebook, Twitter, whatever, wherever, but to just let us know that there is a problem, they are aware of it, and are working to fix it.
For a communications company, so far I have not seen that they have any communication skills.

  • Can I extend my Sky wireless signal with an AirPort Express?

    Hi,
I recently got an AirPort Express in the hope that I would be able to extend my wireless signal to areas that currently have a weak and unreliable signal from my Sky SR101 router.  I am currently able to do this with an old Belkin 'Wireless G Universal Range Extender' but it is not ideal - it's quite temperamental, it has to be reset from time to time and it also provides pretty low speeds.  I've tried configuring the basics for the AirPort Express but can't seem to get it to work.  I've seen on the forums that some people think it is impossible to extend a non-Apple base station's signal with an AirPort Express while others have managed to get it to work.  I would suspect that if I am able to do it with an outdated Belkin range extender I should be able to with a brand new AirPort Express - I don't know!
    Very grateful for any thoughts/comments/solutions.
    Thanks for reading.

Perhaps have one connected to the Sky router with an Ethernet cable and then boost the signal from that one with the other?  Would that work?
If the 1st Gen AirPort Express really is a 1st Gen, then yes, you could do this.
Check on the side of the AirPort Express for the model number.....hard to see in the faint print.....so you may need a magnifying glass.
A 1st Gen AirPort Express is model number A1264.

  • Older airport extreme base station as a network extender with new time capsule

I just bought a new time capsule (802.11ac). Can my older airport extreme base station (model A1143) be used as a network extender with it?

    Yes, although it maybe disappointing..
There are two kinds of extending.. wireless repeater type which is poorest as it has to transfer all packets in two steps instead of one.. hence will halve the speed.
Or using ethernet to the old extreme and set it in bridge.. You can then setup roaming network... this is much better.. but getting ethernet to the right place could be messy or expensive or both.

wireless extend doco.. mind all of this is out of date.. the basics are correct.. the methods via the airport utility may be obsolete.
