Poor - slow performance on Windows network

Since upgrading to Tiger have experienced overall degradation in performance. Am on company's windows network. Have experienced safari alerts indicating "lost network connection". Also have extremely slow FTP (using Fetch 4.5)... transfers at 20 kps compared to 1.5 mbs when plugging in a windows box to where the Mac is connected using same cable.

It isn't clear exactly what you think is wrong.
I'm going to make a lot of assumptions.
Is there a reason you are forwarding all your traffic through the OSX server?
Usually that kind of network function is off-loaded to the cable modem or the router that connects to the internet.
You appear to have a switch, and you want it to be a switch not a router, that the Airport Extremes are connected to since they should all be on the same subnet and your wireless network should be on the same subnet.
The WAN port of each airport extreme is connected to the switch via ethernet cable.
There is no need to connect any Airport Extreme to any other Airport Extreme via ethernet.  It is on a bridged network so that second port would just be shut down.  OTOH, the reason one of the ports is defined as a WAN port is because the Airport Extreme does not support the spanning tree
I believe you already have accomplished the following:
Each airport extreme is configured to "Create a wireless network"
None of them should have the "allow this network to be extended" box checked.
NOTE: this box does not exist in Airport Utility 6.3.1.  You should not try to kludge this by using an older Airport Utility.
All of the Airport Extremes should be configured in bridge mode.
All remaning configuration options should be exactly the same.
Your computer (or phone or whatever) will only connect to one of the wireless networks and one Airport Extreme.
It will not use both the 2.4 and 5GHz networks simultaneously.
You can tell which wireless network and Access Point you are connected to by using Airport Utility 6.3.  Click on the icons until you find your MAC address or the name of your device, place the cursor over that name.  If the data rate is 450Mb/s you are connected to the 5GHz network.  Also, if the PHY mode is 802.11a/n you are connected to the 5GHz network.  If the data rate is slower or the PHY mode is 802.11b/g/n, then you are connected to the 2.4GHz network.

  • 11g r2 Slow performance in windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I have installed 2Node RAC on windows 2008 R2 (IBM servers) with IBM SAN storage, everything went well and oracle is working fine but with performance issue.
its Standard edition and we are using ASM for database storage.
The problem is with performance, as i know installation take cares of all basic configuration to begin with, or do i need to perform some postinstallation in windows, this is my first installation on windows.
We are facing performance issue here.
what exactly i mean is, if i do a logical import on my laptop it finishes in 10 mins but the same import takes more than 20 mins on server. This server will be used for production use in few days, so please i need some help.
Is there a way to monitor SAN usage in windows not the storage util provided by IBM.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ajay
Till now you didn't provide any information about how you trace this problem.
I'll suggest if you take a snapshot before the import then one after you finish the import. after that get an ASH and AWR reports for these two snapshots.
On the other hand is the two nodes private network on a physical isolated netwrok? or so they share the public network switches?

    AminHi,
I was doing couple of test, the problem is related to interconnect or RAC, if i shutdown one server then all process are fast including impdp. i tried this from both the servers by bringing down the alternative server.
Initially we had used cross-cable for interconnect, but now we are using a100MBps dedicated switch, just for testing, once this works then we will upgrade the switch to 1GBps or create VLAN in existing.
But even after having a dedicated 100MBps switch only for interconnect, same problem exists. i have taken Trace during the impdp process.

  • Slow performance in windows after resizing partitions with bootcamp

Windows XP Pro crashed on my iMac 6.1 intel core 2 duo @ 2.16GHz and 3 GB RAM so I reinstalled Mac OSX Snow Leopard and created 2 equal partitions of 125GB each w/Boot Camp. I formatted both partitions in NTFS instead of the previous configuration of 32GB FATS for Windows and 218GB for Mac OSX. I updated EVERYTHING with the latest updates and service packs (I installed Windows XP Pro with a CD that had Service Pack 2 on it then installed Srvice Pack 3). I need to use Windows for AutoCAD but want the support and reliability of Apple.
Now the Windows partition is running VERY slow whereas before the crash and changes, I had no performance problems. I don't know what to do.

  • Oracle 10G slow Performance on Windows 2003 Server

    Hi there,
Looking for a little assistance in locating a bottleneck that's started to hit our system this week. It's really odd because it's been starting around 10am every morning this week.
today is the worst that I've seen it because it's almost brought the system to a halt.....
    We're running Oracle 10.2.0.1 64b on Windows 2003 Server 64
The server has 16 processors and 64GB of RAM currently the CPU is sitting at 5% and the RAM usage is at 16.4GB
It's a blade server with a SAN backend and I'm assuming the latency is coming from the disk but I need to determine this for a fact.
I've only been a DBA for about a year and I'm stilling learing how to locate and identify issues. According to OEM I'm seeing
a ton of I/O from the users. So anyways, any help or insight would be much appreciated and a learning experience for me.
Thank you for your time and asistance.

    Thank you for the reply!
We've had finding one FOREVER, I can't resolve it and I've read somewhere to ignore because OEM is false reporting. I'm adjusting DB_Cache now...
Isn't possible that too much cache could be bad for the system and cause slow downs?

  • Slow Performance with Windows 7

I have a user who just moved to a Windows 7 desktop.  Performance of said desktop is adequate.  On a large report that queries the SQL server, it takes a very long time to display the results (10-20 minutes to complete).  Smaller reports seem to run fine.  It did not take this long on Windows XP.  I am by no means a Crystal Reports guy ( I know very little about it).  Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue or has any suggestions on settings to tweak to optimize performance.  We're using Crystal Reports IX with SQL Server 2005.  Thanks.

    Hello,
Crystal Reports XI is not supported on Windows 7.
You can upgrade to CR XI R2 for free and and then upgrade to Service Pack 6 and then it will be supported.
Use your XI keycode when you install.

  • Windows 8 PC Slow Connection to Domain Network

I have a Windows 8 laptop connected to a domain. It is connected Via Ethernet Cable and the connection is extremely slow in sync center and accessing network drives... Basically, doing anything on the network. I am not sure why it is going slow. There are
hundreds of computers/laptops connected to the domain network and no one else is experiencing this issue.
    Any ideas/suggestions?

    Hi,
I want to know the size of the offline file, because Windows syncs your offline files for you automatically  when a network file is changed, the offline copy stored on your computer is also updated, and vice versa. So, if the file size is too large
it will cause the slow performance. Meanwhile, I suggest to trace the network performance with Netmonitor, this helps to analyze the network performance problem, you can download it here, after downloading and installing it, you can “new capture tab” and then
click “start” to create a new trace file. This will give which protocol is using large resources,
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=4865
Besides, check whether you have any other anti-virus software that is scanning files or documents on your computer, that will also cause a slow performance.

  • Windows 7 icons disappear/reappear Green Progress folder bar issues with slow performance. HELP!!!

Hi there, I hope someone can help me. This all started about a week ago. So I tried a fresh reinstall from my recovery disk. to no avail. Ok I have Home Premium 64bit and it seems my icons in my user folders and subfolders and the actual file icons are
blank stand ard or missing. after a while they reappear to normal. the green progress bar in the explorer folders always lags and never fully completes. It hangs. Now I see that it takes 30 secs to get a program to open. Currently my control panel screen is
blank and my connection between my ipod touch 5g and my desktop is very slow at data transfer. I'm going bonkers! The only things I altered was turning off WMM in my router, Installed a software someone gave me (only to find out it was a crack software) deleted
that first! and used CCleaner to clean my registry

    Hi,
So a total reinstall didn’t fix the issue?
We may take a try with the following article to make Windows a better performance.
    Optimize Windows for better performance
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-better-performance=windows-7
Then, please check to see if any new updates available, also the related drivers, make sure they are up-to-date.
After that, if issue insists, please refer to the following article to run chkdsk command in CMD to check if there are disk issue.

  • I have recently upgraded my ipad mini to iOS 6.0.2 and still have poor wifi performance. My 3rd generation ipad works great on the same network. I have done all the resets I can think of but nothing helps. I would not have purchased the mini had I known.

On the same wifi network, third generation ipad, iphone4s and MacBook Pro work just fine.  The ipad mini often can not connect with the mail server and seems to hang a long time trying to open a web page. Had I known the mini had this kind of difficulty on wifi, I would have reconsidered my purchase. I have tried resetting the network and renewing the lease on the mini in addition. To completing the most current iOS upgrade. Still poor wifi performance. Unacceptable, in my opinion.

Yes I tried this manyfold. But did not work.  Reading on, I took Tesserac's advice. Shut down router and computer.
Start router after 15 minutes and wait another 10 minutes before starting the computer.
Et voila.... everything is back in working order,

  • Slow Performance, Windows with My Documents Redirection, path temp

I've been annoyed by the SLOW performace on Itunes for Windows ever since i purchased my iPhone, i think i know one reason for my slow performance now.
My Windowx-box is member of a domain (connected to a Windows Small Business server) and for security we use folder-redirection on "My Documents" folder (i.e instead of "C:\%username%\my documents\" we use \\server\%username%\my documents) this is a quite common setup on any businesscomputer using windows.
Itunes on windows defaults to storing its cache and library in My Documents and in my case its on \\server\ , this hurts performance tremendously since im on a wireless 54g connection.
I'd like to be able to configure where I want the library stored AND wich HD to put temp-files/cache on...
If this is something that takes ages to fix I welcome any reghacks or directions or wich file to hex-edit to make a workaround.

Copy the iTunes folder on the server to you local hard drive.
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
    Select *Choose library*.
Select the *iTunes library.itl* file in the iTunes folder on your local drive.

My computer startup for wireless access is not almost instantaneous (within 5 seconds of User Login).
Now when I try to use Network Magic (try to open the application, it tells me the service is not running and I have to start it up.

I don't believe the problem is necessary the platform service, but a combination of your Anti-Virus and the Platform Service.
    Try this:

My marketing dept. (Mac Pros) connects to the larger Windows network via ethernet. The actual connections work fine, BUT the transfer of files, searching, opening/saving of files is SLOOOOOOW for the Macs. My IT guy's not sure how to troubleshoot.

In fairly short order. If there's a delay then that could explain why the network is slow. Especially true if internal DNS Services are based around .local. If that's the case (generally true of most Windows Network environments of my experience) then add the .local domain in the Search Domain field. System Prerences > Network > Network Connection > Advanced > DNS.
If it's none of the above look at the physical structure of the network itself. Dodgy patch lead either at your access point or the patch panel itself.
Two things you can eliminate before escalating the problem further.

  • Extremely slow performance on projects under version control using RoboHelp 11, PushOk, Tortoise SVN repository

We are also experiencing extremely slow performance for RoboHelp projects under version control. We are using RoboHelp 11, PushOk and a Tortoise SVN repository on a Linux server. We are using a Linux server on our IT guys advice because we found SVN version control under Windows was unstable.
When placing a Robohelp project under version control, and yes the project is on my local machine, it can take up to two hours to complete. We are using the RoboHelp sample projects to test.
We have tried to put the project under version control from Robohelp, and also tried first putting the project under version control from Tortoise SVN, and then trying to open the project from version control in Robohelp. In both cases, the project takes a ridiculous amount of time to open. The Robohelp status bar displays Querying Version Control Status for about an hour before it starts to download from the repository, which then takes more than an hour to complete. In many cases Robohelp becomes unresponsive and we have to start the whole process again.
If adding the project to source control completes successfully, and the the project is opened from version control, performing any function also takes a very long time, such as creating a topic. When I generated a printed documentation layout it took an astonishing 218 minutes and 17 seconds to complete. Interestingly, when I generated the printed documentation layout again, it took 1 min and 34 seconds. However when I closed the project, opened from version control, and tried to generate a printed documentation layout, it again took several hours to complete. The IT guys are at a loss, and say it is not a network issue and I am starting to agree that this is a RoboHelp issue.
I see there are a few other discussions here related to this kind of poor performance, none of which seem to been answered satisfactorily. For example:
Why does it take so long when adding a new topic in RH10 with PushOK SVN
Does anybody have any ideas on what we can do or what we can investigate? I know that there are options for version control, but am reluctant to pursue them until I am satisfied that our current issues cannot be resolved.
    Thanks Mark

Do other applications work fine with the source control repository? The reason I'm asking is because you must first rule out that there are external factors causing this behaviour. It seems that your it guys have already looked at it, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
I have used both VSS and TFS and I haven't encountered such a performance issue. I would suggest filing it as a bug if you rule out that the problem is not related to external influences: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&loc=en

  • Slow performance on Intel Mac a damaged disk?

    Hi,
I'm experiencing very slow performance on my Intel Mac 216 Ghz core duo, with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Running OS 10.6.8. Have been experiencing reduced performance, can't use Entourage email or Chrome, Firefox browsers at the same time. Ran Utilities to repair permissions, only a Java set of issues. Disk Utilities found no problems with the disk.  Have experienced this issue increasingly for 5-6 months. Using Activity Window i see that Entourage, Word, Safari, Chrome, even System Preferences pane sometimes "Is not responding". Other system services take longer than before.
Apple support had me get larger RAM chip. Now have 2GB Ram. Upgraded to OS 10.6.8 with no improvement. Ran Software Update several times.
I have no anti virus software, have disabled Spotlight and any other memory demanding software. I'm on a in-home wi-fi network on an Airport Extreme.
In addition, at startup it takes 15+ seconds for the keyboard (wired) typing to show in the log on field. Running a single account with Admin access. Screen refreshes slow at times. Currently running is Safe Boot mode but that's not helping much.
