Poor Type rendering in InDesign

I'm using a macbook pro retina display and the onscreen type is very bitmapped/fuzzy - is there a fix for this?

Poor type resolution in InDesign

I have the latest MacBook with retina display - yet when working in InDesign the screen rendering of type is very poor/pixelated. The same type in a Word Doc is very sharp - any ideas on what's causing this and how it can be resolved.

I wouldn't have all the sliders pointing to the end - set them to the middle - that can take up a lot of memory trying to display everything in High Resolution - which isn't really needed.
Your type might show up clearer if there's enough memory available to display it correctly.
The other thing to look at is under "Interface" and change the Live Screen Drawing to "Delayed".

Type problem with InDesign, especially CC.

Hi. I'm experiencing a type problem with InDesign, especially CC. When I open a type box, the cursor appears in the top right hand corner. I can correct that by selecting 'range left' but when I paste or type in my copy, the final period of each paragraph appears at the beginning of the last line. This is drivning me up the wall as I can find a way of correcting it.
Any ideas to solve this problem?

Are you using a MENA (Middle East North Africa, Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, …) version? Then restting woul not help.
If not, you have to create a new document with the same Paragraph, Character and Object Styles (name should be identical) and import them into the other document to overwrite these style oddities.
If you are working without styles? Create correct new styles and apply them.
I doubt that resetting preferences will change here anything as paragraph properties from any existing document will not be changed when working with new preferences.

Thanks. Yes, I had referred to that InDesign Secrets post before posting my question. Thus my question about table. Still dont know why my insert table command is greyed out. The stairstep method doesnt work with my narrow spine and decorative, non-monospace font, as explained in exchange here with Bob Levine. And downloading the CJK version for this single, simple task is just too much trouble. The individual text frames proved the fastest solution.

I installed a very complete set of styles of an opentype font with Font Book – Mac OS X 10.9.4 – but when I tried to format a sample text on InDesign CS5.5 I noticed that I could not use the opentype features on the Open Type menu as I usually do.
Could anyone help me, please?

It's ffScala Sans, but has separate files for small caps, figures, etc.
I was trying to use small caps, lining figures and superscripts when I
noticed none of the OT features are available.

Try turning off Ligatures in your style.

Are you viewing in Overprint Preview (you should) in InDesign.

Hyperlink type Rendered not displayed in Portal

Hello,
I want to add an image throught hyperlink type rendered, but this is not displayed in the SRM catalog.
I add an image using Data Manager in the hyperlink tab using the following configuration parameters:
Type: Rendered;
MIME Type: JPG;
URL: file://<ip_address>/<folder>/<image file>.jpg (internal hyperlink);
The images are not showing in the portal and no error is displayed.
Any idea what is the problem?

I am faced same problem . when i have login into portal the ESS and MSS are not accessed
error is 500 internal error - please contact the administrator.

Poor Font Rendering - Not very smooth!

My fonts are rendering poorly in Indesign even when viewing at 100% viewed as High Quality Display.
Am working on an iMac - Indesign CC. Trying to put a Resume together. Macs own program "Pages" actually seems to be rendering smoother fonts.
Would appreciate any advice

Thanks Jeffrey much appreciated. Had already got AA ticked in preferences...although it is better than when turned off Fonts and dotted lines still look somewhat pixelated compared to say text in "Pages" - Macs version of Word.

Type dissappearing in InDesign document

I am working in CS4 and transferring files from a mac pro in my home office to a mac pro in my clients office. When I open the document, type is missing. There is a text box for the type but the type is gone and has to be typed in again. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Both computers are mac pros One is OSX 10.5.8 the other is a newer version of OSX. Thanks..

Type appearance in indesign

Anyone noticed a pretty huge difference between the appearance of text onscreen in quark versus indesign? Type in Indesign looks a lot heavier onscreen compared to quark. It prints fine of course, but the appearance is offputting, especially to the quark based designers at my work I'm trying to convert... I've googled about and searched on here, but no joy.

No changes beyond the default settings and this applies to all the mac in the studio I work in (4) as well as my home machine. I have tried the high res view setting also.
Specifically the lighter text weights such as Gill Sans Light looks bolder than compared to quark, or even the pdf.

an application, that loads a ttf font and uses
g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_TEXT_ANTIALIASING,
RenderingHints.VALUE_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_ON);
on all components that display text with this font worked well with jre 1.4 on WinXP.
Sometimes ago, I rebuilt it with jre 1.6 and due to customer complaints checked the rendering. I dramatically got worse compared to 1.4, where the rendering was fine (jre 1.6.0_03, Windows Vista). The quality of the text display is really poor. Is there a regression? And what's more: Is there a way to improve the rendering again. I already played with different renderigHints, but I could not notice any change.

Is this problem reproducible with only this custom font?
E.g. system fonts like Tahoma look ok?
Copy your font to lib/fonts directory in the jre (or windows/fonts)
and run Font2DTest application from jfc/demo (part of every jdk).
Select your font and try different antialiasing modes - are they all looking bad?
Which one is similar to what you observe in your component?
Ideally, it will be nice if you can post minimal testcase to reproduce your problem
- e.g. draw line of text to BufferedImage and save it as png.
Post testcase and image. If possible - please post font file or provide link to it.

Wanted to know why Type rendering is very slow in Photoshop cc latest Version.?

Whenever i start a Photoshop>open new>document by taking type it automatically slows down the rendering of type tool about 2-5 minutes. when its again when i take the type tool and want to change anti aliasing or font same problem. And for your information i am unable to change the anti aliasing to smooth/crisp/ or strong it remains the Mac.

Poor printing quality in InDesign CS4

In InDesign CS4, I've made a single-page print (page coverd with one photo).
This photo is a high-resolution image (300 ppi) and is linked with the document. (checked with preflight).
The print is made on a Xerox Phaser 7760. The result isn't sharp at all. I've printes the same picture started in PhotoShop with a fine result and a print from an HiRes-pdf of the same page. The result was ok as well. The page and the picture weren't colormanaged. I kept the outputprofile, linked at the original file (US Web coated). The files were printedd on a heavy card stock (uncoated). Any idea what went wrong?

Could be a couple of things.
You say the image is 300 ppi. At what size? The number that counts is effective resolution, or the resolution at the scaled dimensions, the ones you use to print. You 'll find effective ppi listed in the info or links panels.
Second, the default sending for image data when printing from InDesign is "optimized supbsampling" which is usually not that good. Chnage to "all" and see if that helps.
