Poor video qulity

I have a weird problem. I have some videos. They look perfectl fine using VLC player, Apple TV3 on a 63" display, Apple TV2, ipad. but for some reason they look like garbage in itunes and on Quicktime X.
Normal Size: 720x480
Scaled Size: 640x480
Preserve aspect Ratio: yes
Aspect Ratio: 8x9
offset 0x0
H.264 Profile High @ 3
I have another video that I encoded at a lower RF of 14 instead of 20 on the problem videos. I did this because 14 doubles the file size and i notice absolutly no difference on Apple TV or anything else... why is this a problem in Quicktime and itunes only??

  • Very poor video quality after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have very poor video quality after transcoding the video file (MPEG) in  Adobe Encore CS5.1. Below you see my used settings in my filmproject.
The problem exists after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1. I checked all steps and found out that there is no problem until transcoding. My exported file  in MPEG has very good video and audio quality.
    Facts:
    1. Camcorder: Panasonic AG-AC160AEJ
Operating System : Windows 7, 64 Bit, Ultimate edition
    Source files: MTS files
    Recording settings (clip settings):
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,0
    2. Sequence settings in Premiere Pro
Sequence was created from Clip directly with settings above.
    3. Exporting settings in Adobe Premiere Pro:
Match sequence settings was activated. Now other changes were set.
    4. Exported File:
    Video
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Data Transfer Rate: 25920 kBit / s
    Frame rate: 25
    Audio:
    Bit rate: 384 kBit / s
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Frequence: 48 kHz
    5. Transcoding settings in Adobe Encore:
I used different transcoding settings such as automatic DVD Transcoding, CBR and VBR.I also set “use maximum render quality”. But all results were always the same: very poor quality.
Why does the encore transcoding cause such bad video quality?
How can I solve this problem?
    Please help me soon.
    Best regards.

    Hi Ann,
    1) I did not only „Automatic (based on source)“ options in my tests, but also many other customized options.
The results are very poor. I have done a new test with the following settings. The result is also poor:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_mpeg2dvd_1.m2v
    Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: Custom
Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video, Quality: 5
    Frame Rate: 25 fps
    Field Order: Upper
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic (based on source)
    Render at Maximum Rate: [active]
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Minimum Bitrate (Mbps): 5
    Target Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    GOP Settings
    M Frames: 4
    N Frames: 12
    Use Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    Multiplexer: None
    2) Why shouldn’t I use the “Match Sequence Settings” in exporting? Because of the big output file size?
I used it and the results are very good as I expected:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_MatchSequenceSettings.mpeg
    Export Settings
    Match Sequence Settings [selected]
    1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 50
    User Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    3) I tried also Dynamic Link in PremierePro (to Encore).
    The results are also poor.
    4) I will test also LagarithLoslessCodec and frameserving +DGMPGDec. But the video is vertical long drawn-ot.
I think I did not use it correctly.

  • TV Anywhere poor video capture quality

I have a Celeron 1.7, 20 and 60 gig hd at 7200 rpm, 512M of ram. My capture is of very poor quality. I have used the MSI software and also Virtual Dub. Still poor video capture quality. Anyone tell me what I can do or how to do this right?
    geo-ela

If you use a compressing codec in real time, you need lotsa CPU.
Try using a lossless codec such as Huffyuv (you'll need lotsa disk) for the real time capture and then compress afterwards.

  • HF R52-POOR VIDEO QUALITY IN LOW LIGHT

HELLO,I'VE BEEN USING THE HF R52 FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW AND FOR THE MOST PART AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT..THE ONE ISSUE I'M HAVING IS WITH THE POOR VIDEO QUALITY IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS[NIGHT TIME OR INDOORS].THE RESULTS ARE "GRAINY" OR "FUZZY"..I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT SETTINGS WITH NO LUCK..WHEN I USE THE "LOW LIGHT"SETTING IT ACTUALLY SLOWS DOWN THE MOVIE LIKE ITS IN SLOW MOTION??  OUTSIDE IN THE SUNLIGHT IT LOOKS GREAT! DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?? THANKS,ROB

The videos on WCSN are Windows Media Video's...320x240...not very good in quaintly to start with. If you make these video larger on the screen they are going to degrade...sorry

  • Poor Video quality when importing from SONY DCR-SR100

I am brand new to Mac and iMovie and FCE. One of the reasons I switched to Mac was frustration over poor video output from Windows based video editing programs. When importing video from the SR100 into iMovie and then iDVD, the DVD quality is noticeably poorer than when the camera is connected directly to the Plasma TV. I have been reading these forums and loaded MPEG Streamclip and purchased the Quicktime MPEG2 Download, but I still can't get the video output to look as good as the camera. I obviously have some learning to do, but is there any hope of achieving equal quality output from a DVD as straight from the camera? Is there a good source of information/textbook on this topic? The biggest improvement comes from using the "de-interlace" option in MPEG Streamclip, but the overall quality of the video appears washed out and somewhat blotchy compared to the direct camera footage.

Welcome to the macworld! What imovie does incredibly well is make it easy to create fun and interesting movies. I have used both for several years and only recently with some packages such as adobe premiere elements has the windows world kept up with the mac with respect to ease of use! And even know the packages are still not as easy as imovie. Anyway, with respect to your post and getting the video quality to the best possible output quality using DV material, you are on the right path. The best workflow is to use streamclip and de-interlace prior to editing in imovie. I am not sure if you are doing that yet with your workflow. Yes, its an extra step, but it is well worth it to avoid imovie dropping a field upon export. You can play around with the adjustments to increase contrast, color and et al on the adjustment button. Another option is shooting progressive.
To set expectations, it is second generation footage the minute its imported. However, you should be still getting very good results. FCE gets footage closer to the original footage since it is a true DV editor and uses both fields, but imovie is still preferred by me because of how easy it is to skim, tag and find the material you want then easily do transitions and ken burns for photo's. Fantastic. The way i look at it....watching footage straight from the camera is the worst quality you can get -- It's like listening to your spouse talk and talk and talk and never get to the point until you forget what that point was....editing gets the footage straight to the point....thats quality!

  • Poor video from iMovie 11 imported from supported Sony HD camcorder

Poor video from iMovie 11 imported from supported Sony HD camcorder
Latest model New iMac 27 " screen 3.4 ghz intel core I7, 12 GB of memory running Mac OS X version 10.7.4
    Imovie 11 version 9.0.7
New Sony hd camcorder model HDR560V, 64 gigs of internal flash memory, recording at highest quality hd settings.
    Transfer is via USB.
Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect.  Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
Import into the iMac using  iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of  soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen.  Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I  paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.
    thanks

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

  • Router Type: Symmetric - poor video quality (blocky)

    Hi,
Back in October I posted a question about poor video quality...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2197561
I wanted to posted a resolution, but apparently the topic "has been archived - replies are not allowed." so I have opened this new one.
With thanks to Ralph for his always informative response and Luis Villazon from MacFormat (Q&A Issue 221) I had a better understanding of the issue, but unfortunately the suggestions failed to resolve the issue.
Then I discovered the DrayTek Vigor 120 ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem.
This is a true modem in that it does nothing else, nothing fancy, no NAT, not DHCP. Just a modem.
Connecting this to the AEBS and setting the 'Connect Using' parameter to PPoE gave control back to the Airport.
    iChat now works as expected.
You might say the 'Vigor 120' is the Airport's missing modem !
    Regards
    Richard

  • Poor video from Leopard to Tiger

I've used iChat between an iMac and a MacBook almost daily for a year. At Christmas I upgraded the iMac to Leopard. iChat works, but I now get very poor video quality at the MacBook end. The connection doctor shows that typically my local bandwidth is around 200 - 300 kb/s but the other way is around 50 kb/s. Nothing changed in my router or any of the other networking hardware to the best of my knowledge.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions to improve the performance. Previously with Tiger at both ends the connection and video was usually fairly good and the connection rate more even.

  • Poor video playback with Windows XP

    Hi all,
I am trying to play TV shows that bought from the ITMS (Xena & Star Trek remixed originals). I seem to be getting poor video playback performance. The video is briefly freezing and skipping. The frame rate is also not very good.
    System specs:
    2.6GHz P4 with hyperthreading enabled
    2GB RAM
Matrox Parhelia 128 video card (latest drivers and firmware)
    Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum
WinXP Pro SP2 + latest hotfixes
    iTunes 7.2
I bought my first TV show after upgrading to iTunes 7.2 so I can't compare performance with v7.1 or earlier. I've tried playing the videos from a local IDE (D:, 60GB free out of 120GB) and from my 1TB Buffalo Terastation (RAID 5, 750GB). The performance is the same. The CPU activity varies from 75% to 95% CPU usage while playing the videos.
Even though my Matrox Parhelia is 3 years old it is still one of Matrox's top performance video cards and does excelent 2D and pretty good 3D.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steven

You're leaping to a conclusion that isn't supported by any facts. Just because you are having a problem is not an indictment of Safari 4. I'm having no trouble, nor are millions of other users, so that destroys your thesis. The problem is something that was a pre-existing condition on your Mac.
Did either of you Repair Disk Permission before and after installing it? If not, start with that. Do you have the most recent version of Flash installed? If not, download the Flash uninstaller from the Adobe web site, then the lastest Flash installer and run those, then restart Safari and test it on some video.

  • Poor Video (iPod to TV)

I have audio and video when I try to view my iPod on a TV, but the video is very poor. I originally read that you had to cross connect the cables (that somehow the signals did not match up with the rca cables). At any rate, I tried that with no success. I finally bought cables by Re Trak specifically for iPod to TV. Still, I am having no success. As I said, I can get the sound, but the quality of picture is extremely poor. The quality of the file should be good as I downloaded it from iTunes (TV Shows). That said, even when I convert my own files using third party software, I have the same problems. Surely, someone out there knows how to resolve this issue.
    Anyone?

The quality of the picture is only as good as the original video. Many videos look very nice in iTunes (in the small window) or on the iPod with the video only being 320x240 but this is only HALF the normal size (actually one quarter) so on the TV is it blwon up to fit the normal 640x480 (actually 720x480 but that is another discussion) so it likely will look cruddy.
So the first question is, the video your are trying to watch on the TV, are they lower than 640x480 in resolution?

  • TV@nywhere Master poor video quality with 6800 GT

I have the TV@nywhere master (8606-020) and it was working fin with my NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GT OC (256MB) but when I updated the driver to their latest version, every time I would go full-screen in MSIPVR it would make lines all through the video.  I reinstalled drivers, MSIPVS and same thing.  I then rolled back the NVIDIA driver, and the issue disappeared.  Anyone have the same issue and know how to use the new driver from NVIDIA and get it working right?  Thanks!
                                              - Mike

    Hi:
Thaniks for writing back. My comment really was directed at ellucidating how many others might have poorer quality using Nvidia 6800-based graphics cards as the originator of this thread implicated. Second, as to your comments, it would seem a good idea to stay with the old drivers. The new drivers were supposed to solve TitanTV directed recordings; this they do better, but still insufficiently at least in my hands. Maybe the only choice left is to stay with the originals. But before uninstalling the current version and installing the original, I had a third question that perhaps you could address.
Perhaps you could comment on why the driver scan at http://driveragent.com
reveals my currently up-to-date version MSI 8606 (TV@nywhere master) Audio Capture and MSI 8606 Video capture drivers are out of date? Based on the listings in Device Manager, they are currently Conexant version cx88aud.sys, 2.3.79.0 and C88Vid.SYS, 4.0.102.0. Did my drivers fail to update correctly, are there drivers for this available somewhere else, not listed on the MSI website, like Intervideo, etc, or is this website wrong? I hate to pay money to find out they are simply wrong. Do you get the same results?

  • Linking Macbook Pro to TV (Poor Video Quality)

    Hello All,
I had a 2 questions regarding linking my video from my MacBook Pro to my TV. I bought the cable that allows me to display videos etc on my TV, but the graphic quality was very poor. The TV is HD and only 2 years old, and my MacBook is brand new with 512 video card.
    1. After connecting and getting the video to display on the TV the picture quality was grainy and the color was off. Is there a way to improve the picture quality &/or a link to a idiots guide for doing this.
    2. I will be teaching soon and I wanted to be able to display Flash &/or video clips on a projector in front of the class, but I dont want the quality to be poor (as in the problem above).
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if its just pointing me to a cite with more info on how to do this.
Thank you again for your help,
    Valance

I am having the same problem, hooking up a MBP Core 2 Duo to a Samsung HD LCD. My display settings are 1080p and I am connecting from DVI to HDMI.
My problem is the same, that the image appears grainy and the color is way off. Tried some different color profiles, but I am dissapointed that my HD show doesn't seem to be the same HD quality that I am used to in real HD broadcasts.
Also looking for good tips or an idiot's guide.

  • ITunes movies poor video quality (very pixelated)

Just bought a 5th gen nano, and synced it with some videos we bought on iTunes. The videos play but they are extremely pixelated. I have tested it on a few movies, and they are all the same. They are just SD movies or TV shows. Even our kids cartoons are poor quality.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Sorry wrong forum...moving to 5th gen nano forum

  • Poor Video Quality

When I import my videos to Adobe Premiere Elements, the playback quality suffers immensely. I figure it's an issue with the project settings but not sure how to go about fixing the problem. HELP PLEASE

    trilliumdance
The answers that you seek with come from the details of your situation, starting with the version of Premiere Elements that you are working with and the name of the operating system on which it is operating.
You need to determine if you or the program is setting a project preset that matches the properties of your source media. If the program is taking on this task, you can check what it has set by looking at
Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, Pixel Aspect Ratio". If you do not understand what you read there, we will help you interpret that information. If the program is not setting the project preset correctly, then you set the project preset manually. If you have Premiere Elements 11 or 12, details of the manual set of the project preset are described in the following
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
You can go to properties readout programs, such as MediaInfo and GSpot, to get video properties information. Often we can take the shortcut and gather the needed information if you tell us the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video.
When you talk about poor playback are you referring to before export or before and after export? When you are playing back your Timeline content in the Edit area monitor, does it have over it
    no colored line
    an orange line
    a green line?
Please review and consider. We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thank you.
