Poor Wifi Reception All Of A Sudden

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus has recently started to have very poor wifi reception in places it used to get very good wifi reception. I know for a fact it isn't my modem/router because we have multiple laptops in the house, other phones, and an Xbox connected to the internet and they all receive the same great signal they used to. I have read a lot of other forums about the Jelly Bean update having something to do with it on many other phones. I have had the Jelly Bean update for many months now and this problem has just started occurring, I am fortunate enough to have 4G where i live but i don't like using it all the time. If there is a fix i would like to know it asap! i need wifi on my phone!

took the offending ipad2 to the retail store...they restored to factory and then saw what we did: crummy reception, right inside the Apple store.  They then gave us a new one to replace the offending bad unit.
at least they are still a leader in customer support.  My suspicion is that an antenna died.

  • Ipad 2 dismal wifi reception all of a sudden

all of a sudden, my iPad 2 wifi reception got really lousy.  in places where my laptops, phones, iPad One, etc all get great reception as far as distance go, the iPad 2 can't get reception unless I am 10 feet or less from a router/access point.  iPad One is five times as powerful in this regard.
Originally the problem was occuring under firmware 4.3.
    Updated to iOS5.01; no improvement.
Can't really see an app that would cause the problem, but if anyone has had this happen due to an installed app, please let me know which app.
Or, any other suggestions before heading up to visit the "genius's"?
As mentioned, all routers working just lovely thank you.
I noticed there were about 150 pages concerning iPad 2 wifi headaches, but none seemed to deal with a sudden decline in reception strength

  • Poor wifi reception on an iPad 2 running IOS 6

    Hi there
I've been having real problems with my iPad 2 and poor wifi reception since I upgraded to IOS6 from 5.1.1. I'm one of those people who waited for google maps to come out before upgrading so I only made the upgrade on the 19th Dec 2012.
To keep it short, since the upgrade the range at which I can pick up a wifi signal has halved on the iPad. At home I could run around the entire house and receive a signal, now I can barely leave the room that the router is situated in before the signal drops completely. I've tried this at other locations (my parents house, for example) where I know I could previously receive a good signal on 5.1.1 and this issue is the same.
I've tried all the fixes I can find on the support forums and I've tried a complete reset on the iPad. The problem remains and I cannot resolve this. I know this isn't a router problem as we purchased a new router for my father for Christmas and the same issue occurs.
I upgraded my iPhone 4 at the same time and it is fine. This problem seems to be specific to the iPad 2.
I just wonderd if anyone else has expereinced this issue?
    Cheers

  • Extremely poor wifi reception

    Hi,
I have a brand new EliteBook 8470p with a Broadcom wifi card. I have a very, very poor wifi reception. Only if I am 2 or 3 meters from the wifi hub, in open view will I receive correctly the wifi. The transfer rate drops dramaticaly if I go further away. I opened the service cover to have a look at the wifi card. There are two wires connected for the antenna, labelled 1 and 2. There are 3 other wires in standby, labelled main (red label), aux (blue label) and MMO or MMD (yellow label), can't read clearly.
Is there any chance that the antenna has been incorrectly connected. I can't believe a commercial product would have such a miserable reception capability ...
    Please help
    Oliver

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
    I hope this helps.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Wifi issues all of a sudden in lion. Please help.

Problem: i have 2 macs, 2 pc's, playstation, iphone and ipad on one network for years. No issues. Then one day both mac minis stopped getting wifi internet. Thought it was the router but all other devices still got wifi.
i created new wifi connections, deleted the old ones, made sure dhcp is not set to manual. Fixed permission and still no go. This just stopped working all of a sudden. Changed from N wifi speed to G wifi speed and it seemed to work for a few days. Then it went back out. I bought a new router think that would fix it and the same is happening.
I have gotten several different messages such as "Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet." Another saying I have a set IP address and cannot to Internet.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds similar but still not the same issue I guess because I have the problem regardless what application I'm using, I don't even get the internal Windows sounds when I have the Creative drivers installed.
Feels strange not more people have the same problem if it's caused by a Microsoft update so maybe that's not the case after all...can't understand though what might have caused it if not that?since I haven't done anything to my computer's config lately and this problem with the sound happened from one day to the other...hmm...

  • Nokia 6280, lose of reception all of a sudden

    Hi,
a few months ago My nokia 6280 all of a sudden lost reception even though i live in a full reception area and always have full 4 bars. It lost it for 3 days and i thought it was a network fault, but when i took sim card out and put it in an old fone it worked fine.
tonight, it has done the same thing but this time, it loses reception completely, and then 2 mins later gets full again!, it is really annoying cos i cant make any fone calls or send txts. it just says error in connection
ive tried turning it on and off and takin battery and sim out, but no luck...
any ideas? and anyone experience the same?

    Hello there,
Don't worry i had the same problem for a whole week!
Ended up using my trusted Sony Ericsson W850i instead of my 6280.
What i did was i took the battery out for a whole day and it simply worked again. I don't know what the problem was but it may not be similar to yours.

  • System not seeing my Canon MG5422 Wifi printer all of a sudden.

My iMac installed the OS X 10.2.2 update on 30 Jan and I upgraded my Comcast cable modem on 3 Feb.  My Wifi works fine but all of a sudden I can't see my printer.  I tried to print something and got a "cannot communicate with the printer error".  So I removed the printer from System Preferences and now I can't get it back.  When I hit the "+" button to add a printer I get the add screen but there's nowhere to go from there...the system does not see the printer so won't add it automatically, I can search it but can't find it, and I cannot get to an input point to add a name.  So I cannot communicate to the printer.
The two things that have changed are the 10.2.2 update (which was supposed to fix some wifi issues) and the new cable modem, but like I said the wifi for internet (web and email) is working fine.  Has the Yosemite update caused similar issues with anyone?

  • Wifi has all of a sudden stopped working Iphone4

The other day i was browsing the net and my wifi all of a sudden stopped working.
I went to turn it back on but it just kept loading.
Sometimes when the wifi does turn on its for 5 seconds and turns off again.
Ive tried "reset network settings" and "reset all settings" turning it off and everything. Forgeting it then trying again.
    But it still wont work.

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • Very poor WiFi reception

After updating the phone to 2.0, I noticed the wifi reception is much lower than when it was at 1.0. For God's sake my wifi router is only 10 feet away. It works great if I held the phone 2 feet from the router. Some times I won't even get the signal at all. What gives!!!???

My launch day iPhone 8GB had the same issue described here and in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1604944 . Yesterday, I took the phone to the Genius Bar, and they didn't feel the need to replace my hardware.
I performed the following steps and it seems to have remedied my problems:
First, I performed a sync in my normal account/iTunes to ensure I had a backup of my iPhone. Then I made a Zip archive of the entire folder of my iPhone back on my computer at ~/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and copied that archive elsewhere in my account. This ensured that if anything went wrong, I could restore the contents of these backup folders.
Next, I created a new account on my computer and logged into it. Next, I launched iTunes in the new account. Then I connected the iPhone and chose to perform a Restore. I declined to make a backup. Once the restore of the iPhone was complete and the iPhone was Activated on the mobile network, I disconnected it. In the iPhone's Settings app, I went to Wi-Fi and where I had seen 0-1 networks before, I saw a range of 2-5 networks. (Still not the 16 or so networks in my area, but more than before trying this experiment.) I walked throughout and around the outer perimeter of my house and continued to find new networks.
At that point, I had more functional Wi-Fi, but none of my settings or content. I logged out from the new account and back into my usual account and launched iTunes. From there, I could have performed a sync and gotten my content placed back on my iPhone. But without a restore, I would have lost my Notes, Wi-Fi passwords, SMS messages, Call History, etc. Still, this may be what others may choose to do and move forward.
As a further experiment, I decided to do another Restore from within my account, and again declined to perform a Backup. This time, though, after the iPhone finished the restore and reboot, I allowed iTunes to restore my backup from earlier in the day (this decision was made at the screen where one has the choice of making it a "new iPhone" or restoring from a backup). Once this was completed, I elected not to sync my content. I repeated the same physical walk with the iPhone in Settings > Wi-Fi and continued to see a greater number of networks than I had seen before beginning the series of experiments.
With this apparent success, I performed a sync and let iTunes copy my content and applications back to the phone. When the sync was finally done, it appears that I now have a 2.0 updated original (launch day) iPhone that also has working Wi-Fi.
I'd love to see if anyone else might duplicate these steps and see if it remedies their problems as well.

  • Poor wifi reception with 3g iphone

my 3g iphone has horrible wifi reception I have a linksys wrt54g and upgraded the firmware...i have reset my iphone...it connects but i have to be right next to the router and when I walk into the next room i lose signal. compared to my original iphone the new 3g cannot keep a connection or connect from about n e distance...has anyone else had this problem and what can i do to solve it?

The iphone is B+G only. Not N.
If you set your router to not use N, it will connect way better way more quickly.
Its a little known fact of N that if anything connected to the router is ABG, the whole wifi runs at no better than G, so N is largely smoke and mirrors, and will do you absolutely no good when talking to the internet.
Second, set the router for WPA2 AES encryption, because this is done in hardware and is secure and fast.
Yes the Iphone is selective about which networks it will show. Go get WifiTrac from the app store and you will see it can actually detect more networks than it will show. Normally the iPhone only shows a network that has a strong signal.

  • TS1398 Ipad won't accept WIFI signal all of a sudden - worked fine till tonight

My ipad has worked for over a year on my home wifi network and tonight it will not connect no matter what I do. Wifi is working as my computers are all working fine and the modem is working but for some reason my ipad has decided it won't accept the signal.  I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions; ie, forget network, shut off and restart, etc.  Still just circles and circles trying to connect. The IP address and subnet mask numbers show up but nothing else.  And when I try to go online it says Network Required.  Please help!  This is driving me crazy!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Updating to iOS 5 on 3gs caused poor wifi reception

Before iOS5 on my 3GS, wifi was working fine. Now I can't connect to my wifi unless I am in the same room as the router. My wife's iPhone 4 is not having the same issues. Tried "Reset Network Settings" and "Erase All Settings..." but still very bad reception. Now trying a restore without restoring backup to see if that resolves the issue. Just wanted to see if anyone else with a 3GS is having the same issue.

I'm noticing the same thing but I also have terrible wifi issues in my home, even with the addition of the mini tower...AT&T is a joke...

  • Poor Wifi reception

As a camper, I've been continuously have trouble with the reception strength of Wifi. I go to the camp manager and they usually assure me that "all is well". When I try to connect I have to be virtually next to the antenna. If I use a small Dell laptop, it gets a "5 bar" signal and is much faster. I think this has to do with the reception. I've been thinking seriously of a new MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air but am very concerned as I will be traveling via campgrounds for quite some time.
Thanks for you help and comments.
    John Geisen

You might try a third-party CardBus-slot wifi card such as one of these:
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/aria_extreme.html
    http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/wirelesscards/11g_11bcards/11gPCCard.php
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP802NPCM/
All such cards carry their antennas in the protruding end of the card that extends outside the Powerbook's metal enclosure, which generally improves reception over the built-in antenna for your Airport Extreme card. Note that most third-party cards require the internal Airport card to be removed and the computer restarted with the new wifi adapter in place. Depending on which Powerbook model you have (there were two different 1.5GHz 15" Albooks), removing the Airport card is either simplicity itself or requires a substantial dismantling of the machine. Instructions can be found here:
    http://www.ifixit.com/guide
Regarding the MacBook Air: it's a significantly less capable and powerful computer than the MacBook Pro. That's the price of its thinness and lightness. Unless you absolutely need those features, I think a MBP is a better value.
