Poorly made iPhone USB sync cable

Here I sit with 3 USB cables acquired by 3 different iPhone 3G purchases and all of them are tearing near the connectors. My girlfriend and I aren't rough with our stuff and I never had this problem with any of my iPod dating back to generation 1.
Anybody else noticing a degrading quality in the USB cables?
What is Apple's replacement policy?

FYI - you don't need to drive 40 miles to an Apple store. You can handle everything over the phone by calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466. AppleCare will ship a replacement USB cable to your home or where you work - someone will need to sign for it, and you will return the defective cable in the same box that Apple ships the exchange to you.

My iPhone 3G is not one year old yet, but the USB/Sync cable that came with it is ripping on both ends exposing the wire underneath. Is this covered under warranty?

  • USB sync cable different for CDMA and GSM version phones?

I recently ordered a USB sync cable for Iphone 4S from ebay. I want to know whether the USB sync cable for Iphone 4S is different for CDMA and GSM version phones? And if they are then what are the likely consequences if they are interchanged and used inadvertantly.

All recent iDevices use the same type of connector/cable.

  • Missing usb sync cable

Hi, my neighbor upgraded to the Sprint Evo and I bought her Palm Treo 700wx for Sprint. Her USB sync cable was damaged or something; she didn't have it. Do I need that to sync with my work computer, or can I sync "wirelessly" using the exchange server ?
Sorry if this is dumb; i am totally new to smartphones

Your email, contacts, calendar, and tasks can sync over the air with Exchange. Pictures, music, etc., do not. Did the 700wx have Bluetooth? That might provide an alternate way to sync those local items.

  • Charging iPhone with sync cable and samsung TV

Would I be able to use the Apple Universal Dock and charge/sync cable and plug it into a Samsung TV to charge? (Similar to what people would do with a computer and the charge/sync cable?)
Would there be damage to the phone?

Not iPhones? But it says right on the box that the Apple Universal Dock is compatible with iPhone?

  • Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm afraid that's to be expected in most cases, you need to turn your TV speakers off.

  • Identify genuine apple sync cable?

After buying 2 sync cables from ebay that did not work as well as the original apple cable, I look into the connector (the ipod touch side) and see 6 metal pins on apple's cable. The one from ebay only have 4 pins.
The 2nd cable I bought from ebay claims it is made by apple, and the cable even has the "designed by apple in california assembled in china" but it has several minor differences:
    (1) it is 1 inch shorter
    (2) the text and labels are a thicker size (bold)
    (3) apple's cable has several groups of tabs inside the connector; this one has raised tabs evenly distributed
    (4) last but not least, it has 4 metal contacts; apple's has 6
So my question is, did apple ever made an ipod sync cable with 4 metal contacts on the ipod side, or is this a fake?
The symtoms of these ebay cables is that if plugged directly into the PC usb port they appear to work fine, but when I plug them into a 6-ft usb extension cord, one of the became usb 1.0, the other one enters a connect/disconnect infinit loop. The cable that came with my ipod touch works fine with the usb extension.

The one that came with my 4G has 6 pins. The one that come with my Griffen charger has 10 pins. The following link identifies the various pin connections. You may be able to use that pin-out to see what pins are missing and then figure out if the different performance can be attributed to the difference in pins.

  • How do I get iPhone USB back to network preferences?

I (like many others) couldn't get the USB tethering to work after (probably) installing new iTunes 10.7.
I managed to delete iPhone USB from network preferences before reading all about this kext stuff etc that are being posted here.
    I have now tried:
    - uninstalling iTunes 10.7
    - installing iTunes 10.6.3
    - installing AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext v2.2.0
    - installing AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext v2.3.0
    - installing AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext v2.3.6
    - re-installing iTunes 10.7
+ rebooting / connecting iPhone via USB
None of these has made iPhone USB come back to network list.
Any ideas how to get it back?
    I'm running OS X 10.6.8.

Has everyone else managed to fix this or am I the only one who deleted iPhone USB from network preferences?

  • Unable to charge from sync cable

After installing activesysnc 4.5 I can't seem to make my phone charge from the usb sync cable.  I know there is power coming through the cable because it would charge my Palm 700p through the palm desktop software.  Is there a setting that I just can't find?  I've installed the Palm software and installed and reinstalled activesync 4.5.

  • Sync cable stuck in Palm TX

Just got my wife a new Palm TX for Christmas.  Everything went great until she tried to remove the USB Sync cable from the handheld.  I's locked in there solid!
There are no buttons on the side to release it;  the hotsync button is at the front......
    HELP!!!!

Thanks all.  I tried the rocking motion and it came out (after putting all of my 6'4" and 240lbs behind it)!  In looking at the plug, the two retaining tangs have a 90* angle on them which explains why it won't come out.  I tried bending them to make the angle larger (so it holds without locking) but they are too small to get at.  So,I guess I'll call Palm and see if I can get replacement as I think they shouldn't be like this.

  • Can the usb sync/power cable that came with the iPhone 3g and 4 handle the 2.1 amps drawn by the ipad 2 (if used with the 10w plug) without risk of overheating?

I recently made the mistake of buying a cheap sync cable from a well known auction site becuase I wanted a longer cable than comes in the box for my ipad 2.
Whilst my iPad will sync OK, it takes an age to charge (using the standard 10w plug in the wall). I don't fully understand the science in the cables, but assume it is not a big enough cable to handle the current/2.1 amps?.
If like house wire you send too much current through a cable that is to small for the job it risks overheating and causing a fire.
Does this same principle apply to the iPad power lead?
Anyway back to the question, can I use other leads I have hanging around the house from my previous iphones and ipods to charge my ipad (again still using the 10w plug in the wall) or will the cable in these be too small to handle the 2.1 amps required by the ipad?
I don't want to risk overheating the cables and causing a short to break my beloved iPad 2...!

    Thanks for your replies.
Not sure they entirely answer my question though.
I have used my different cables and can see that they are actually working (charging and syncing etc), but am i using old cable that was not intended to draw 2.1 amps and so may overheat and cause damage in the long run?
Or did apple deliberately over engineer the original cables which were only needed to supply 1 amp and they can actually be used to draw 2.1 amps comfortably?
Whilst the 30 pin connectors and usb points are identical, is the internal cable thickness/awg gauge the same?
    Thanks

  • How do I remove one of the calendars from iCloud but keep it on the iPhone to sync with Outlook by USB and keep the other calendars synced on iCloud ?

iPhone 5, Macs and iPads at home, Windoze7 system at work.
Using iCloud to sync calendars, contacts, etc on all the home devices.  Used USB cable to sync at work with the Windows system, with the Outlook 2010 corporate account (corporate server).  I need only the Outlook calendar to be synced, syncing the contacts created too many problems with duplication, etc.  No need for that.  Worked fine until the latest upgrate to iOS7 and iTunes 11.1.  Used to have a calendar that was not on iCloud and was simply and exclusively syncing between the iPhone and the Windows computer at work. The other 3 calendars synced fine with the macs and iOS devices via iCloud but not with the machine at work - keeping private records private.
Upon the iOS upgrade, all calendars are now on iCloud.  I am no longer able to remove one - for security too - from the iCloud and sync it with the Windows computer exclusively.  I managed to sync it once on the PC with iTunes by switching iCloud off on the iPhone before connection by USB cable.  Trying it again, it tells me that it will erase all items on the Outlook account (the "more than 25% of your records are going to change" alert) and won't add or modify any.  I stopped the sync in time...
Tried on the iCloud site for a solution to remove the calendar, nothing.
There is no iCloud setup on this corporate computer - no access permitted. The USB cable connection is the only solution and up to the upgrade of the iOS this went seamlessly.
    Any solution out there?
    Thanks
    Vladski

I share a similar situation (usb iTunes sync with Outlook with my corporate laptop; personal calendar on icloud).
With IOS7, at first, iTunes/Windows does not propose Outlook sync anymore. I need to switch off calendar from iTunes to enable usual usb sync with Outlook. I had to sync it twice while checking "replace iphone data" to get a stable behaviour (like before) IOS7.When I try to re-enable icloud calendars, it proposes me to merge them...
I did not test merging so far...
IOS7 and iTunes 11.1 are not completely polished ;-)
