Pop 3 mail on iPad

I'm having trouble setting up my POP3 e-mail account on my iPad 3...I know all the settings I've entered are correct (verified with provider) but I receive the message the "secureserver.net" is not responding.  I enabled SSL and have shut down, rebooted, etc. several times to no avail.  Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how was it resolved.

Apple first-line support stated the problem needed to be in the Mail Support.
I described the phenomenon to Mail support and he stated that POP was seemingly acting like IMAP. I replied back with a resounding, yes. He just sent through the steps again to ensure that my configuration was acceptable, and I confirmed again the way in which I used POP between my devices. He stated he was going to transfer me to the next line support.
The last line of support stated he was going to record this event with Engineering to determine if was really a bug. It took some convincing that it was an iOS bug but I fact is, this did not occur with iOS 5.x. Moveover, the Mail App should not delete messages from my devices if the remote POP account does not contain any messages.
In the meantime, I did delete the POP accounts on the iPad and re-created within iOS6. Should not matter, but it is worth a try. I will test this later today.

  • POP mail on iPad Stopped Working

I have been using POP mail on my iPad2 for over a year using the server "mail.btinternet.com" for receiving and sending, but in the last couple of weeks it has stopped working on the iPad although I can still use BT mail on my PC.
I didn't change any of my iPad settings. So what has changed? Any help appreciated.
    Solved!

What has changed at the bt mail servers in the last few weeks that has caused my previously OK iPad to suddenly fail on send and receive?
Seriously?  BT are "divorcing" Yahoo and are switching to a company called Critical Path as their email provider (no, I've never head of them either).  This has received so much publicity I'm surprised you could have missed it.  I think existing customers are being migrated over; I'm sure you will find full details elsewhere on this forum.
More constructively, I think if you look carefully under the Advanced section of your iPad email settings you will find that you can change the incoming server port number.

  • Pop Mail on iPads

I was told by a tech guy in an Apple retailers shop that iPads dont have disk space for Pop mail.
I was dumb struck and decided on the spot not to biuy one.  BUT, I dont think he knew what he was talkling about....
Can anyone confirm or deny ?  I see setting up Pop can be a bit tricky but I can see no reason why Apple would want to do that.
    Thanks

POP mail accounts work just fine on an ipad and are not tricky to setup either.
IMAP is preferred as it can then sync across multiple devices where POP does not.
Who ever you were speaking with was grossly misinformed.

  • IPad iOS 7.0.2 POP mail messages come in as "read" (no blue dot)

Using a POP mail account on my iPad 4 iOS 7.0.2, my new messages are either coming in without a blue dot or sometimes the dot is there but then goes away without my having read the mail.  This is a recent phenomenon and the same account is behaving properly on iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.2.  Any thoughts?

I'm having the same problem, but my counter says I have well over 20,000 emails, and I can't find a way to reset the counter!

  • What to consider for setting up the iPad for POP mail?

    Hi to All,
I would like to write a setup manual for setting up iPad on free web hosting account. I am currently using host1free.com, but I guess it is the same thing for every web hosting (setting up the email). So my questions would be:
    1. What steps in iPad I need to follow to setup for POP account.
    2. Is any wizard in iPad to setup POP mail account?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Ask the company providing you internet juice to get online. If it is Comcast, it typically is smtp.comcast.net or mail.comcast.net. If it is Verizon, it is outgoing.verizon.net. If it is someone else it is some SMTP server that is assigned by the company that you pay your bills to get online with.

  • IOS5, iPad(1) and POP Mail account

It seems that once I updated my iPad to iOS5, it is now looking at my POP mail server and treating every email on the server as NEW...!!! So basically, it keeps pre-loading the next 100 messages and says it's ready to "Load More" messages from the server - over 5,000 messages. Not cool. How do I tell this thing to ignore all those old messages. I cannot sit here for a day or two "dismissing" thousands of messages. Any ideas?
I am in the midst of updating my iPhone 3G[s] as I type this... so the problem may (or may not) manifest there as well.

So... per your idea, I "disabled" the two POP accounts in my iPhone and RECREATED them using IMAP instead. Once I did that, a few things happened:
No massive list of unread messages
All my emails were there in both accounts
I could now SEE all the folders I had created on the mail server
When I delete an email, it always says "Unable to Move Message - The message could not be moved to the mailbox trash." in a popup dialogue... yet the message disappears.
I will need to experiment when I get home to see how IMAP behaves differently from POP. I know with POP, I could delete local/downloaded emails from my iPhone/iPad and keep it relatively clean and it had NO EFFECT on my home computer and/or the email server. As it stands, it SEEMS that IMAP treats email differently... I'll need to experiment, but it appears that I am not looking at a downloaded "copy" of an email - but actually MANIPULATING what is on the email server - so if I "DELETE" something from my iPhone/iPad, I am GUESSING that it's also being deleted from the server? Also - up until now, I used my home Mac as the "MASTER" of all my emails. I save everything into folders on my local MAC. My worry is (and I'll confirm later) that if I delete something using my phone BEFORE it made it to my Mac's inbox, it'll never get there. My MAC mail app is accessing the same accounts as POP... will look into changing them to IMAP as well (if possible).
    Thanks again.

  • I have  a POP mail account on my Ipad. After I trash emails, they sometimes reappear latter that same day or the next day. Why is that and what can I do?

I have a POP mail account on my ipad. When I trash my emails, they reappear later that day or the next day. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what to do to stop it?  Thanks

I have that every now and then, especially if I have an interruption when using emails, like network loss, etc.
I think the email app loses track somehow of what emails it has fetched from the server and redownloads them.
If this continues, you can try deleting the email account and recreating it, but I occasionally have had this issue since I got the iPad 1 a year ago.
Note: My settings are Delete from server = Never.
(I clear the server's email with my laptop, not my iPad.)

    Hi Rob
It sounds like my problem is the same as yours..... Sorry, but I'm a bit of an iPad dummy so am writing for some more clarification...
My problem is..... I am away from home and only travelling with my iPad, however we have sold our house and my bigpond email address on my iPad is getting clogged with all the solicitors stuff etc, so I really need these emails for my files...
I want to be able to backup these up (so that I can retrieve them later to print out and file) and delete them from my iPad...
I've just created an iCloud email account (I think) is this what you did? So should I forward all my emails to this iCloud email account? And will I be able to retrieve them later?
I hope you login here to see my question.....
    Thanks Janet

  • Is there any way to sync POP mail between iOS and Mac devices via the cloud?

The title says it all.  I have Comcast email and would like to keep three devices in sync with email like I do with calendars and contacts.  I use an iPad, iPhone, and a Mac Mini and am having a hard time configuring the three to stay in sync.  It seems that a .me account is needed for cloud email, which I have, but that only seems to send via the .me outgoing server.  So, while a .me account can retrieve the POP mail, it doesn't send outgoing mail correctly for me.  Maybe it just isn't possible.

When I send mail from my mobile devices, it comes from my .me account.  Same for my mac.  But, I don't care because no matter which email the recipient responds to, I get the response.
I use my .me account now as my primary account, but I have a ton of folks who still use my cox account as my primary email address.  Most don't even know which account the email is being directed to.

  • Can icloud email receive email messages from another account by automatically retrieving them like my iphone does. Microsoft calls this pop mail

I have an iphone and an ipad. I don't have an Exchange email account pulling all my messages from my verizon email account into my apple devices. My husband uses his Outlook computer at work to create 2 Inboxes on his iphone (one is his work email Inbox and one Inbox is his pulling from his personal account). I noticed using an Exchange-type email program with the iphone allows for features I want. I want to check email on my phone and ipad. I ALSO want to be able to file emailed coupons into an Inbox coupon folder on my phone and ipad for easy retrieval. It seems the icloud email program will let you do all of this. It also seems Google offers gmail and it will do this for me. Now that I set up an icloud email address, I can't figure out how to get Verizon email pulled into it. My iphone and ipad pulls my Verizon email but does not allow for Inbox folders. Verizon won't auto-forward emails to another account. Gmail will pull them for me though. Will icloud do this?

Verizon netmail just offered auto email Forwarding. So, even though icloud might might not offer the services Gmail and other email programs offer to pull email, it seems I might still be able to accomplish what I want using the other email account's ability to forward my email to my icloud email address. We'll see. Please reply if you know the answer to the icloud's ability to pull email in a way like pop-mail does for pc users. It would have helped me if I could've found the answer to that question in this support forum...

  • How to delete all mail in IPAD 1 and keep mail untouched in Gmail server.

How can I delete IPAD1 mail while keeping original mail at the server ? The problem is that when removing mail from my GMail account on my IPad1 the original is also removed from the Server. I want to free thousands of mails listed on my IPad Google account saturating and congesting my tablet but without deleting the original emails at the server. Sorry to repeat. But I want my problem be clearly stated. However I would like to receive a copy of the mail I get in the server, so that I can trash everyday's copies without touching my Gmail account at the server.  Maybe I have been redundant, please excuse me.  Cheers !!!  DavidSpartacco

It has been some time since I used POP3 on my iPad, it is just not a very good way to manage email between multiple devices. There is no check mark to simply change the Gmail account from IMAP to POP on the iPad. You will have to delete the account from the iPad removing all the email already stored on it. Once you have changed the server settings at Gmail you have to re-create the account on the iPad. Now that it is POP3 you should have a setting in the iPads settings to not delete the emails from the server when deleting them from the iPad. Once the new account is created on the iPad all the email on the server will download again and have to be deleted from the iPad. You will have to reset other devices as well, although Gmail may be able to handle both settings at the same time but they may conflict.
For your use, you may simply want to just use Gmail through Safari where you will be viewing your email directly from the server through the web browser. No messages are stored on your iPad, they are all managed on the server through your web browser. There is also a Gmail app available which may also leave all the messages on the server although I have not experience with the app.
When I had an email account set to POP3 I had the iPhone and iPad set to not delete messages from the server when I deleted them from the device. I had my home computer set to remove them from the server when they were deleted from there. It does work although each device is independent, reading a message on 1 device would not mark it as read on the other device. I ended up having to administer the email on 3 different devices even though they were the same account.

  • I keep being asked for my pop.mail password for my user address. Can you help please.

I keep being asked for my pop.mail password and I do not know what is meant. Can you help. I cannot receive or send messages on thunderbird. You say you have sent a reset message to me but it has not come through. I am searching messages on my ipad. I am on the verge of abandoning Thunderbird and continuing to use my ipad and yahoo account. Thank you for your help in advance.

Thunderbird has nothing to do with administering your email password and is not going to send you anything. I am not even sure where you requested that something be sent to you unless it is for the password to this forum which has nothing to do with your email.
Your email provider would have a link to reset your password on their email help page.
I would go to your providers web mail page and see if your username and password work thee. if they do then you might have incorrect server settings causing the password error.

  • HT1694 Windows Live Mail with iPad /iPhone

I have setup my email acct on my iPad and iPhone and receiving messages however only inbox showing on both devices, unable to view sent items or deleted.  Using Windows Live Mail with Win8 on laptop and also only viewing inbox only. Would appreciate help.

I agree with the information supplied by Nachos Libres. If you really have a POP mail, let me add something.
I used in the past a POP mail service and I remember I could set some of the mail programs to download the mail but leave it on the server. Remember I did it on the MacBook and on a Cellular Phone (before iPhone). In this way I was sure to leave all mail on the server and to find them on the iMac which was setted to delete the mail from server after download.
I have no more POP and I cannot tell you if you can setup iMac iPhone and iPad to leave mail on the server. This way of leaving copy on gthe server could also be a feature which is allowed or not by the server.... or if Mail.app does not allow it you could try a different mail program. Of course this makes sense only if your provider does not allow the use of an IMAP sistem.
Try to find out yourself but, if this way is possible, remember to setup one computer to delete the mail after download or you will fill your mail box in a short time.

  • To create a mailbox in mail the ipad manual says tap edit in the mailbox list. There is no edit in the mailbox list. How do I create a new mailbox?

To create a mailbox in mail the ipad manual says tap edit in the mailbox list. There is no edit in the mailbox list. How do I create a mailbox?

An IMAP configuration will NOT allow one to create mailboxes on one's iPad - from personal experience - one requires a POP account.  Briefly, the Apple Mail app for iOS 6 (iPad, iPhone) has no capability to add mailboxes to the original ones that are included as part of the app - if (and only if) the email account is configured as IMAP.  So... Keniff is correct: One must go to one's laptop/desktop, open a browser, and add the mailboxes desired for your IMAP account. Unfortunately, one seems to have little choice for the account configuration.  Apple's iOS does the configuration quite automatically with one's account provider. For example, my Charter mail is IMAP while my Gmail account is POP.  The latter allows edit/add for new or existing mailboxes on my iPad 2.

  • ICloud mail on iPad, iPhone, and iMac - it disappears

I've seen a lot of people asking about this, but no solutions that suit my version of the issue.
I have an iPad 2, iPhone 4s, and an iMac that's 1 year old, exactly. All are set up for iCloud mail, and I'm using Entourage as the mail client on the iMac. I don't expect anyone here to debug Entourage for me, but I did follow the instructions on apple.com for setting up iCloud on a mail client like Entourage, as IMAP, etc.
What happens is, I get emails on the phone and the iPad, but I don't 100% trust that I'm getting them all. But, if I pull the IMAP mail in Entourage, the email shows up and then some of it (not all of it) disappears. The phone, the ipad, and Entourage all end up in sync, but missing the same emails for no reason. There is no setting on the phone or ipad to 'move' or 'copy' emails after they are read. And I don't have any rules or settings in Entourage to do anything like that, either. I assume this has something to do with IMAP mail-handling that is unfamiliar to me, but I'm not sure what it would be. There is no setting anywhere to say, 'just leave the mail where it is', or 'move the mail somewhere else'.
On the iPad, i can't even check webmail for iCloud, because it won't do anything but show me a page withe 'setup, install find my iphone, or install find my friends' as options. No login, no logout, no option to view mail or docs or anything else.
All of this seems like it can't be normal or intended behavior. I really don't trust iCloud email anymore, and maybe the only answer is to not use Entourage. But I use that to pull gmail, yahoo, aol, and other POP mail accounts, so having to open 'Mail' just to read my mac.com mail seems like an unnecessary nuisance.
    Any ideas?

So, I've noticed that in Entourage, the messages don't 'disappear'. They are moved to the normal Inbox and deleted from the new Inbox that was created when I set up the new IMAP account. If I set preferences to only *mark* the messages rather than 'delete' them, then they stay in the IMAP Inbox with red 'x' marks next to them, and they show up in the normal Inbox, marked as 'read'.
However, once that happens, and I don't know why it happens, then the messages are deleted from the iPad and iPhone immediately, and they're not moved anywhere else; just deleted from those devices.
Again, the iPad won't let me view webmail, but at least I know what's happening in Entourage.

  • E5 will receive POP mail, but NOT send SMTP

I have a really baffling problem. I am trying to set up my own domain email with my device and I can get it to receive POP mail perfectly using my service providers details, but I can't get it to send mail with the SMTP detail (which I've checked are right and which work in my iPad)
I've sent it to port 25, and I am at my wits end, any suggestions., I am using a pop server from a different service provider but it shouldn't make any difference should it...??
ANy advice sought, thanks in advance

Hi Chip: I suspect that the wireless connection you are using is not the same internet provider you were using previously. Is this correct? Most, if not all Internet Service Providers do not permit sending from a different "SMTP' server. This would definitely cause the issue you are seeing
