POP Account Out-going server only?

Is it possible to have a POP account set up ONLY for use with an out-going server?
I am currently forwarding the POP emails to my .Mac account (doing this instead of checking the server because it won't sync with my iMac and iPhone being a POP account). I don't need the incoming server. I just want to be able to send out-going emails using this POP account alias - not my .Mac alias.
I am trying to prevent the duplicate incoming emails.
Can I do this?
Thanks,
Cheryl

Cheryl,
I never said anything about not selecting Enable this account -- that must be done. After the account is set up, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and put the cursor on Online status, then click for this one account to Take Offline.

  • How do i find out the name of my out going server?

Trying to set up an email account. It's asking , "what's the name of you out going server?" I don't know the name of my outgoing server. How can I find out the name of my "out going server?" Thanks in advance for any help on my question.

Your provider names their servers. You need to ask them or do a search for email settings for your provider.

  • Out going server, Mail sends about 50% of the time, saying can't use select

Looks like everyone has Mial issues, what a pain, Im gunna get a windows machine just mor Email, or maybe another mail program.
Does anyone have any hints, it used to happen once in a while, but now that I have added a 3rd account all with godaddy, it rejects the Outgoing server about half the time. I have 3 emails acounts set up under the same domain and they all use the same outgoing server.
Any idea why this is happening?

I have found that the example given in this thread
"... you would need three smtp servers in your smtp server list, smtp.goddaddy.com:username1, smtp.goddaddy.com:username2, and smtp.goddaddy.com:username3"
also has issues. It appears that the Mail program gets confused if there are identical SMTP server names (and user names that are identical in the first 8 characters) in the list. I had a situation where I had smtp.goddaddy.com:username1, smtp.mac.com:username2, and smtp.goddaddy.com:username3. When trying to send mail from username3's account I kept getting the "can't send mail from SMTP server smtp.goddaddy.com:username1" error message. The message indicated to me that the program had confused the SMTP servers for username1 and username3. Also, the SMTP server for username3 was not in the drop down list available from the error message window from which you get the opportunity to change SMTP server designations. Account preferences looked good and the server list from there also contained the correct information. I changed the the server designation for username3 to smtp.gopapa.com:username3 (my ISP has alternate server designations) and everything works fine.

  • Out going email

I previously posted a problem I was having with Outgoing mail. When I hit send a box comes down and I have to select which email address I want to use. I thought it was solved with the answer I got but its doing the same thing. I have 2 email accounts one of which I want to send threw. Is there a way to remove the addresses from this list. I have changed to the one I want in the accounts out going and have selected the one I want in Mail/Properties/composing area as suggested, any other suggestions?

You're right. I just had a look and I see that option I suggested you check is not available in Tiger. You could try the following and see if it does what you want: In Preferences>Accounts>Account Information, highlight the Account, then in Outgoing Mail Server select the Account you don't want mail sent from and choose the Edit Server list in the drop down menu. Then remove everything there for that Account. I don't see why that wouldn't stop that popup from appearing.
However, since I'm not seeing this behavior on my Tiger Mail and I have outgoing Servers configured for three accounts, it may be something quite simple I don't know about and doing the above really shouldn't be necessary, Why don't you ask in the Tiger Mail forum?

  • Accounting in primary server.

We have two locations and locationwise two acs servers have been installed.
We have kept the servers which are in the location as primary.
Everything is working fine. But i want the accounting part should be in both the servers. Dont know ("A" location acounting at "A" server only) and ("B" location accounting at "B" server only)
I want the singlepoint administration. Can anybody help me.
    My config is like this:
    A-Location:
    aaa new-model
    tacacs-server host A.A.A.A key access
    tacacs-server host B.B.B.B key access
aaa authentication login default group tacacs+ local

aaa authorization commands 15 default group tacacs+ local
aaa accounting exec default start-stop group tacacs+
aaa accounting commands 15 default start-stop group tacacs+
    Help will be appreciated.

    Adding to my previous message:
I have configured database replication for the Location A server as send and Location B server as receive. problem is If i have to edit my location B users or AAA clients, i am editing it in location A and replicating the same. i dont want this delay. So if i configure the replication as Both servers send and receive, is there any problem. My aim is i want to edit the settings as per location wise.
**once i configured the Users for location B and added to one group. when the user tried to login to the switch it showed "CHPASS Disabled" and Location B server is showing that User is expired where as Location A server showing it as enabled only. I am unable to avoid this situation.
Can you please provide me the solution for this.
Experts reply will be greatly appreciated.

  • Help needed on POP accounts

Mail crashed the Mac (Kernel Panic) and I restarted. Mail then said it was damaged and to quit. I did. I relaunched and mail rebuilt the messages. But it left all 9 of my POP accounts out. I see no way to add them back except the tedious process of re-entering each one.
    Dual G5/2ghz machine, 10.5.1.
Can anyone tell me how to get Mail to recognize the previous account setup?

Can you go to homefolder/library/mail, and in that mail folder, what do you see? a folder for each of your pop accounts by any chance?
Do you have time machine on by any chance? If so then you could search just before the crash and locate the homefolder/library/preferences and looking for the file com.apple.mail.plist, and copying that file to your homefolder/library/preferences on your mac.
else you may have to manually re-enter each account
    hope this helps

  • Syncing other calendar from pop account

I am not sure what you are trying to ask. A pop account is for email only. There is no calendar.

  • Ok, taking the leap. Tossing out all Windows servers and going with Lion Server only!

Help! We are retiring our Windows 2000 server (finally) and going with Lion Server only. We are transitioning from Windows to Mac and have 30 PC's running XP and a few scattered Windows 7 PC's (Lab). We have teachers and staff using Mac computers. Can I authenticate my windows pc's to Lion server?

    1. We are running lion on the old Xservs because we had them. Thought they still would be good file servers. And we thought Lion would work on them but know that mountain lion will not
    2. We have looked up some errors and they have to do with spotlight not getting index finnished with all the adobe files in folders, subfolders and subsubfolders. The vnode errors have something to do with lots ofmopen files but we do not know why. Maybe all these many directiries of files in deep hierarchy of adobe CS which the department does shared work directly on the server is issue. We have tried to get them tomuse as archive only but they do not habe a clue how to do shared work on separate clients. This deparment is not very savy in use but imtense Adobe CS users and my concern is these old file servers cannot take this kind of use.?
Imposted the logs because i have no clue to why they keep filling up (the vnodes).

  • HELP! my emails disappeared after I modified the pop incoming and outgoing server settings in my apple mail email account. I have checked all my mailboxes--gone. How could they have disappeared? I am talking about 200 plus business emails

I have checked all my mailboxes--gone. How could they have disappeared? I am talking about 200 plus business emails. I am using Lion X.0

    Thomas,
"Note that you were warned that this would happen and approved it.  When you delete an e-mail account in Mail, you are shown a message like the following:"
You didn't read my problem - I said I deleted a POP email account.  I always read the messages that pop up and in Mail when you delete a POP account - IT DOESN'T TELL YOU NUTHIN!  It just deletes it - which *** for me.  Fortunately, I had an iPhone and on that device I had about a 1000 messages that I could recover but on all my POP accounts I download them from the server onto my Mac so they were only on Mail (the really old ones that I wanted to keep.)  I had to move them into another directory one by one basically because when I would move 50 some of them would move and some wouldn't and I never did figure out that problem.  Basically the ones that would not move are the ones that were associated with my domain changes with GoDaddy, and there were a lot of those.  Have no idea as to why only those were resistant to moving but I can get all that data from GoDaddy anyway.
This thread is now moot seeing as how I've recovered everything I can and am going to just move on - and back up more often.  ;-)
Apple and Mail need to rewrite that program to include a WARNING MESSAGE when deleting an Account in Mail that says ALL YOUR MESSAGES ARE GOING TO DISAPPEAR NEVER TO RETURN IF YOU DELETE THIS ACCOUNT, SO YOU DANG WELL BETTER HAVE A BACK UP IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ANYTHING BEFORE PRESSING THAT MINUS SYMBOL!  ;-)

  • TS3276 Is there a way to sync POP subfolders and download them for backup in Mail on my MBP? I tried syncing the account with Mail and only the Inbox downloads onto my computer.

Is there a way to sync POP subfolders and download them for backup in Mail on my MBP? I tried syncing the account with Mail and only the Inbox downloads onto my computer. I have Googled enough to find out that the answer is no, but no official answer or recent answer and I am hopeful that there has been a change.

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • Can't setup pop account and all mail deleted from server!!

Trying to set up a mail account as pop. But Mail is determined to set it as imap.
I've humoured it and gone through the process.
After clicking 'create account' it gives the message that it's downloading 500+ messages. Once it's finished, nothing is in the inbox.
To make matters worse, every single email has been deleted from the server. I do have a backup of my important emails but if this is something which is not isolated to me, then I feel sorry for anyone who does not have a backup.
    So...
Is there a way to manually setup my account with settings of my choosing?
Or, is this just a case of Apple deciding whats best for me and resistance is futile?
    Cheers

I'm not sure what Mail version you're using and you can't change an existing IMAP account to POP, but you can add a new pop account in Mail 6.0 in a round-about way.
When you're setting up the account it will only try it as IMAP, so in the first segment where it asks for the password, purposely enter the wrong password and click continue.  An error message will result, then click continue again and you will see a new window with a pull-down menu to select POP.  From there you can manually fill out the rest according to your server's settings. (Don't forget to put in the correct password this time.)
In your case, I'm not sure how your messages left your server, but if you have webmail for the account you can check the trash there.  Also, you will have to delete the IMAP version of the email account before you can use the address for the new POP account setup.
Personally, I use IMAP on my iPhone and POP in Mail for a more manual control of my accounts, so I know how you feel.  Hope this helps.

  • I can only see three weeks of emails on the imap email account on my iMac even though the same email address set up as a pop account on my iPhone, iPad and another iMac show all my emails.  How do I change the setting to see more emails?

I have two iMacs, an iPhone, and an iPad.  All use the same email address but the new iMac would only let me set up the email account as an imap account. On this iMac I can only see three weeks worth of emails.  On the other iMac, iPhone, and iPad, this email address is set up as a pop account and I can see emails as far back as three years.  I use Yosemite on the new iMac and I cannot find out how to change the settings to let me see more than three weeks worth of emails.  This is an att&t email account which is basically a Yahoo account.

Nope. It will reset all settings. For fix errors.
Or you can try Logging out and Restart your iPad and Sign in again.

  • Do we need to enter full email address in Incoming mail server settings on POP Account

Do we need to enter full email address in Incoming mail server settings on POP Account or just the username? For example does it have to be [email protected] or only jim.nicholas works? How does it affect the way the emails are delivered between laptop (primary device) and ipad ???
    Please need help asap!!
    Thanks.

For my POP account I have my full email address in the Address field but just my name (and not the '@...') in the User Name under Incoming Mail Server
