POP accounts passwords lost

I have 6 POP accounts, and after a restart I have lost all the passwords that were previously stored.
Have checked the mail accounts and the password fields are all blank.
Keychain seems fine as passwords are still stored for various websites so all good there.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Colin.

  • Keeps prompting me for POP account password, despite using Keychain

I have three pop accounts setup in Mail. Ever since I upgraded to 10.5.6 I've had a problem where Mail will frequently ask for the pop account password, even though I told it to keep the password safe in the Keychain. What on earth is causing this?
Sometimes I'll see a new email come into the inbox, only to then be prompted with the password. What good is asking for a password after the email has already arrived? This is really weird!
    Thanks.

Apple seem to be ignoring this and every other thread like it... as I have the same problem and there seems to be no solution offered.

  • Problems with POP account passwords after setting up iPhone

I bought and installed an iPhone yesterday.
I run a .mac and 5 POP email accounts. All were set up smoothly and work perfectly on the iPhone.
    Email client is Apple Mail.
Since then the Apple Mail client is having difficulty retrieving mail. For all the POP accounts I am getting a password challenge response dialogue box asking for password.
I have tried re-entering them all incase the Keychain change to allow the iPhone access had corrupted them, but no difference.
If I can press Cancel on the dialogue box the account is set to offline by the Mail client. If however I persist with the Get Mail it will retrieve mail successfully without challenging password. I would say 8 times out of 10 it will challenge, the other 2 times it will retrieve normally.
Has anybody got suggestions/experience of this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance
    Damon

The incoming mail server for most POP accounts don't like or support two email clients on the same computer or on different devices accessing the incoming mail server at the same time.
I have a business POP account that I access with the Mail.app on my Mac and with the iPhone's email client and the account will eventually go offline with the Mail.app when using the iPhone to access the account at the same time.
This isn't an issue with an IMAP account and a .Mac type account with the Mail.app is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.

  • Deleted a POP account and lost all mails

I changed my POP server and, extremely stupidly, deleted my old POP account details. Now I have lost all my old emails from that account - any way of getting them back or finding the old POP account details?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Well, if you have deleted the accounts using the Mail client you will have lost the mail on the Mac (its always an idea to keep the mail folder ~/Library/Mail backed up, say to a CD or external HD). Best bets for deleted accounts on Mail is to check whether your mailboxes are still present or not on the POP server, or possibly to use HD recovery for the deleted files on the Mac (need to stop working on the Mac asap and get an application like Data recovery http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescueinfo.php or similar).

  • Mail forgets pop account passwords

If there's a problem on the pop3 server (e.g. server denies for some reason user's login / password), mail doesn't try to use the same login keychain entry any more, and even when the pop3 server becomes operational, Mail continues to ask for account password.

    Greetings,
It sounds like the Keychain entry for that account password may be corrupted. Try opening Keychain Access > Passwords and scroll through the list until you find the one for the account in question and delete it.
Then restart Mail, enter the password when prompted and check the box to store it in the Keychain. With any luck, it will be accepted and won't ask you again.

  • Pop Account Password issues with Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Loeopard my mail account will not accept my password, every time I connect with Mail it comes up with an error message stating that the pop server hasn't accepted my password - Help

Same with me, the entire Modifier Keys settings pane for the Apple Keyboard does nothing, not just the Caps Lock setting. It works fine for the built-in MacBook Pro keyboard, but not for the external USB Apple keyboard. This worked perfectly fine on Leopard, but after upgrading to Snow Leopard it doesn't. How'd they break this??!

BUT I entered it and I know it is correct. So why am I being asked for it again and again.
I think I need to do somethng in the keychain but as I can;t remember exactly what I don;t want to mess it up.

Forgot password to my Toshiba Laptop Satellite M505-S4945
I forgot the password to my user account. No other administrator accounts only one limited one. I am using window 7 and I am begging for some help. No window recovery flashdrive or anything. I am in need of dire help

    Satellite M505-S4945
There is always a hidden Administrator account (with extra-special privileges). First, try the following from the limited account. If a password is requested, use a blank. (I hope you have the Professional or Ultimate edition. Local Users and Groups is not available in Basic or Home.)
Access the real Administrator account in Windows 7
Otherwise, the best way to handle this is to reset passwords.

  • Pop account problems

I live in Hawaii. I use to live on Oahu. There I used TimeWarner's Roadrunner for cable access. But since moving to Puna, Hawaii,Big Island, I no longer have "roadrunner", as my pop account as they are no longer my ISP.
When I try to get into mail it is asking me for my pop account password, which is no longer valid. So this morning I went into mail prefrences and deleted my pop account info. Now it appears that my Mac mail isn't coming through at all to my computer? What can I do to solve my problem with mail???
    mahalo,
    Roger

    Aloha Allan,
actually Allan what I'm trying to convey is this. Since changing islands I no longer use 'Roadrunner' as my ISP, only because it not where my house is being built. So, since changing islands I cancelled 'Roadrunner', and now use DSL from Hawaiian Telcomm. As I opened the mail app. I get a small window asking for password for pop account. That password was with 'Roadrunner', and now since I don't use them anymore I can't access that account using their password...so I deleted my pop account from mail prefrences. Now when I open mail....there is nothing from my inbox? Shouldn't my .Mac mail appear there as it did before?

  • Os x 10.8 mail 6.2, changed pop account and deleted old one, now all mail has dissappeared. Where is it and can mail be told where to find it?

I had trouble with my pop server as they had changed settings.  I could not send mail using mail 6.2.  When I deleted old pop account in mail preferences and set up new pop account I lost all old mail incoming, sent and trash....I know its in library/mail/v2 but I cannot work out how to tell mail 6.2 where to find it.  Help please?

Call Apple to get the replacement DVD > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 When you have the DVD, insert it and install iPhoto. Finally, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version

You cannot delete the iCloud account that is signed on to Find My iPhone unless you know the password. This is called the Activation Lock:
    ACTIVATION LOCK
It is an anti-theft security measure that is a part of iOS 7. You can only get around this by following the steps in this support article:
Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
Contact your friend. This is the only way around the lock.
    Best of luck,

  • Deleted POP account - lost Inbox & Sent mail

I was unable to set up a new POP Account in Mail (my email service was moved to a new host) without deleting the existing POP Account, because the new account had to have the same username. When I did that and created a new Account the emails in my Inbox and Sent folders were gone. Mail in other folders was fine. Is there any way to recover the original Inbox and Sent emails?

    You're welcome.
If the incoming mail server address remains the same with the new host, did the account's user name change?
An account's user name and password is what checks the incoming mail server for new messages. An account's user name is usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but with some providers it is your entire email address.
The outgoing mail server has nothing to do with and has no bearing on creating an email account with Mail or with any email client.
When creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The outgoing or SMTP server has nothing to do with this, is not stored in the same location and although Mail's connection test with the outgoing mail server or SMTP server may fail when creating the account, it does not or should not prevent you from creating the account and adjusting the SMTP server settings afterwards.
You can add a number of additional SMTP servers to Mail or delete an SMTP server from Mail after creating an email account which has no bearing on an email account's set up. You can have multiple SMTP servers to choose from - one used to send messages with an account when connected to the internet via your ISP at home and another when connected to the internet via a different ISP at work or elsewhere.
Based on the information you provided so far, there was no reason to delete the old account from Mail. You may not recall seeing the error message but it was provided. You select OK in the error message box to delete the account which informs you all account setup information and locally stored mailboxes for the account will also be deleted when doing so.
FileSalvage will pull up all deleted data that is still available for recovery - located on an area of the hard drive that has not be over-written with other data after the previous data stored in the same location was selected for deletion.
You will look for mailboxes (folders with an .mbox extension) and/or .emix files with each individual .emix file representing a single message that was stored in a mailbox.

  • Mail continues to not save a password for one of my POP accounts (gmail)

    Hello,
Whenever I leave the computer and come back (the machine never turns off, only the display goes to sleep after about 15 minutes), Mail asks me to reenter my password for my gmail POP account.
This is very annoying since I use multiple desktops (Virtue Desktop), so having the window show up in the non-mail desktop and trying to click on it makes me switch to the Mail desktop, where the window isn't, so I can't edit it unless I quit Mail and reopen it.
EIther way I have tried deleting the gmail account and adding it again, I have told it to save to keychain every time I enter it (clicking that option when I enter the password apparently does nothing), I have looked into the keychain application and I found everything necessary I believe..
Anyways, thanks for any light anyone can shed

my experience is that there is a drop in your internet connection and Mail was trying to send e-mails during the time the internet connection was dropped.
are you using a Macbook? I am using it and had problems with internet connection dropping every 10-15 minutes and had the same problem as you with my Mail. Every 10-15 minutes it asks me to type in a password because it cannot connect to mail server.
when the problem occurs, try to see if your internet is working. if it's not, then i think you're on the same boat as hundreds others. the problem was never solved through an update of firmware for 10.4, but hopefully 10.5 has solved this problem. I have not tested it yet as I'm still restoring my files.
