POP E-mail account password

My POP mail account is not working. I've had this computer a long time and I intend to get a new one
because it's so out of date but in the mean time I need to get this problem fixed. The problem is with the
password. I NEVER had to type it in. It was always in there in mail preferences/accounts (all in asterisks*****)
For reasons I can't figure out, the password is no longer there. In keychain access there is no
indication of any mail account and password. When I click on "get mail" I get a prompt that asks for
a password. I have no idea what it is! My e-mail server is Time Warner Cable. They have no idea
what I'm talking about. I opened a g mail account just so I can do some e-mailing but I hate the format
and I want to continue to send and receive e-mails at my POP account and Time Warner e-mail address
as I have many business cards with that address on it. How can I fix the Pop e-mail account password
problem? Should I contact Apple and pay to ask them a question? I'm really perplexed. Even though
"mail" is not in my keychain access list, I tried to look at other passwords for other things and a prompt
asks me for a "keychain access password". I never had one! But that's a different issue. For now I'll settle for
a solution to my POP password problem.

Thank u for your suggestions. I'm the only one who uses this computer but I do have another mail account with g-mail which I only opened after the POP account failed. I repaired the keychain access to no avail but it did say that there was "no problem" with the chain. I reset the chain and I still can't send or receive e-mails from my POP account. I called Time Warner cable and they said they thought there could be a problem on their end and they
were checking it out. But the problem remains that even if they fix the problem that is rejecting my e-mail password, I now have no e-mail password to type in. It used to be saved in Preferences and now it's no longer there. If I can't retrieve the password from somewhere (it's not on my keychain access list) I don't know how to get the password or create a new one. As a result of resetting the keychain I now have a keychain access password. But there's no POP account or any mail app in the keychain list to use it with.

can anybody help me? i've set my mail up and its been working fine for around three months but now when i go into mail it keeps saying for no reason my pop 3 mail account has rejected my password. i havn't changed any settings . thanks in advance. JB

If you're getting those pop-up alerts that say you need to re-enter your password, I get them too. I think it's a problem with the mail server, not your computer.

  • Mail is asking for all my mail account passwords. They should all be in my keychain. Any suggestions?

Mail is asking for all my mail account passwords. They should all be in my keychain. Any suggestions? (I have over 50)

    Hi ...
    50 ??
Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
From the Keychain Access menu bar top of your screen click Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid
Click Verify > Start. if necessary click Repair.
You may need to enter your admin password to proceed.
And, from the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information
Go through each mail account to make sure the password is typed in on the right.

  • I have forgotten my Mail account password on my MacBook Pro.  How can I learn what it is?

I have forgotten my Mail account password on my MacBook Pro.  How can I learn what it is?  (It doesn't give the option of resetting my password!)
    Thank you!

Accidentally posted it twice; first time user!
The password it prompts for is the third password line in a box under 1) my name and 2) my me.com email address.  I assume it is the password I set up back in 2009 when I bought my MacBook Pro.  However, I have since fogotten it, and it doesn't give you an opportunity to "remember" it.
    Thank you!
Glenn posted the method, try it.

  • How do I find or reset my POP mail account password? OSX 10.5.8

I"ve forgotten my POP mail acount password. Is there an easy way to find out what it is or reset it?

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter, double click on the  ones it finds & choose Show Password, you'll need an admin password.

  • How to set up two POP e-mail accounts using the same POP and SMTP servers

I have an e-mail address based on a domain I purchased which is based on my company name. Now retired, I have purchased a new domain with a simpler, personalised name. My original e-mail account uses the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers operated by my ISP; mail.btinternet.com.
I have set up a new account on my PC in Microsoft Outlook, and have successfully sent and received emails using the new e-mail address taken from my new domain name.
I have now tried to mirror this on my iPhone, but every time I enter all the relevant data for the new e-mail address, user name, password, mail servers etc., and then press 'save', I get a pop-up which says: "xxxx" is Already Added  This POP account has already been added to your iPhone. ("xxxx" is the name given to my original e-mail account).  Nowhere have I input "xxxx" in the course of setting up the new account.
I need both accounts operational during an extended switch-over period as I alert everyone to the e-mail change over. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?

What targeting the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account which will be recreated automatically and/or if you created an email account as part of the computer setup assistant when first turning on the computer when new.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • I need help with my mac mail account password!

okay. so i came home one day after work, and i went to check my mail. there is a squiggly line next to my inbox. i tried to send a message, and a box popped up asking for my account password. now i only use two passwords - one is a word with numbers, and the other is just a word. i entered both, and was told they were incorrect. i'm stumped. am i going to have to start a new account? is there a way to change the password and still get my mail? would someone please help me out? thanks in advance to anyone who does.

Well, then maybe Mail is corrupted, so let's try to fix that. You'll need:
    1. your Mac OS X installation disc.
    2. a copy of Pacifist.
    3. confidence and patience.
First, quit Mail, go to Users/your username/Library/ and copy the Mail folder to your Desktop; then download Pacifist using the link above.
Next, insert your Mac OS X installation disc, open it with Pacifist and browse the contents of the Optional Installs folder until you find the installer package for Mail, then open that Mail package.
Select the top-level of that package in the Pacifist file listing and click on the Extract button in Pacifist and choose your Desktop for the destination. When that is finished, move the newly extracted copy of Mail to your HD/Applications folder. Choose "Replace" when it tells you there's already a newer or older file there with the same name.
Quit Pacifist, open System Preferences and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions; then quit System Preferences, logout and log back in, then try starting Mail and see if that resolves your problem.

  • Problem with yahoo! SMTP POP server mail account on new upgraded iphone 4.3.5

    PLEASE HELP!
I am a California AT&T wireless customer with a new iphone 4 on the iOS 4.3.5 upgraded system and suddenly I am unable to successfully add my Yahoo! email account and have it configured to send/receive my emails.  I was able to successfully add my gmail and Microsoft exchange server account, but only problems with the Yahoo!  I checked all the settings, have done several add/delete accounts, restore network settings, and retry/reboots, to no avail.  This is a seriously annoying problem, it worked with the pre-upgraded older version fine without any problems ever.  I continually get the same error message:  SERVER UNAVAILABLE, please try again later.
I know this error is inaccurate because all my other email accounts work fine as well as Safari and all other internet connections and apps.  It is not a phone thing, it is some yahoo and upgraded software incompatibility issue that no one seems to have resolved yet.
This is a SMTP PUSH POP account, and I have literally tried everything.  I have tried all the fixes while connected to wifi, and then tried them just via my 3G cell network connection.  I read on a message board about turning on/off SSL, could someone tell me how to do that?  When I go into to:
settings>mail accounts>outgoing mail server SMTP>Yahoo! SMTP, everything is grayed out and I can't change any ports or SSL.
When I try to manually add a server, which I was told was a fix, I don't know what to type into the host name.  Does anyone know how to help?
I have seen this problems on numerous message boards, even in the UK.  I contacted Apple Support, with no success in resolving this problem, had an open case for several days contacted several supervisor personnel, all advised me to contact Yahoo! who do not offer customer care via telephone only online, and nothing there helped to resolve my issue.
    PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!
    THANKS

Yahoo's servers have been having problems off and on now for close to a month if not longer. There's not much you can do about it except talk to Yahoo, which is kind of like beating your head against a wall.  They've had problems like this off and on since as far back as the mid 90's. I gave up on them long ago. Just convert to something else and dump them. It's not worth the headache.

  • 6280 Using IMAP4 to access e-mail account password...

I have a nokia 6280 which at the moment works for internet browsing etc, I have entered the settings for IMAP to enable me to recieve send e-mail from my personal e-mail account(tiscali). When I try to retrieve my e-mails the phone shows connecting followed by an error message saying password incorrect? The password that I entered in the phone settings it the same one that I use when accessing my tiscali e-mail account. Any ideas?

This doesn't work- the Account pane simply has a Manage button that disappears when I click it- nothing actually happens.  If I View Source, I can see 85 occurrences of the word "password", including where the text is *supposed* to be, but CSS errors or some formatting errors are preventing it from being displayed.
This has been going on for several days, and is across multiple browsers (including Chrome and Firefox).
I have checked with 3 different Pwned sites (from Forbes article) that all indicate this address was compromised late last year, possibly due to Heartbleed or other bug.  I need to get the password changed, but your system is preventing me from doing it.  I have checked also the parent account (which I also control), but cannot get this changed.
I have noticed all around really flakey behavior on the account pages- they are just poorly done.  They give errors, "can't do that right now" sorts of errors- really unacceptable stuff, and this isn't by far the first time I have had issues in the account administration.
I've attached a screen snip.  The grey "Manage" button disappeared when I clicked it.  This is what I get- nothing.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • E-mail account password

    HELP PLEASE!
I forgot the password to my e-mail account. How can I retrieve it please? I have my admin user name and password but this does not work. The e-mail password is not in my keychain so I am not able to verify it from there.
    Thank you!
    Maia

If you setup your Mail account to keep your password in the Keychain, then it would be there. But if you didn't do that and you have to enter it each time you want to send or receive email, there's nothing we can do to retrieve it. You would need to contact your email provider to have them send it to your or reset it for you.

  • Mail Account Password

How do you assign a new password to an existing mail account?

First you have to change that password with your email provider. This has nothing to do with Mail or any other email client you may be using. Once you've changed the password with the provider, in Mail go to preferences->accounts, select your account and enter the new password.

  • Recover mail account password

I have a gmail account which my apple mail program accesses great. I now want to access it from my iphone. But, I no longer remember my gmail password. Is there a way to recover that password from my ibook? The password is encrypted when I go to mail account information.
I have already tried the recovery process through gmail but I no longer have the email non-google email account that was the reference email for my gmail account.
    Thanks

Hi Eric, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Open Keychain Access in Applications>Utilities, find the referred to keychain, double click on it, checkmark the Show Password, give your Admin PW when asked!

  • Recently upgraded to Snow Leopard ever since I've been having trouble with POP 3 mail accounts both retrieving and sending.  Anyone else?  Any fixes?

Any body else having this problem?  Any fixes?

In mail, if you click on window, then connection doctor, what does it tell you about your mail accounts? If there's an issue, the receive and/or send status will be red .. green if OK.

  • Reset mail account password in thunderbird

All support replies refer to ISP access password. What I need is access to Thunderbird program account password. This only seems to show itself when beginning account. ??

Thunderbird only has one password and it is optional. You would have to activate that feature. It is the master password. You can read about it here.

  • How can I add/change e-mail account password? How can I test the account?

For several days I have been unable to send or receive messages using Thunderbird. Works OK with another mail client. This problem started right after installing a security update 24.4.0 (20140316131045). I went to Options/Security/Passwords and deleted all the saved passwords. When I try to download messages, however, the system is not asking me to enter a new password. Thunderbird regrettably lacks a "Test" button to test access to the accounts.
    Any suggestions?

If you're not being prompted for the password Thunderbird is unable to reach the server.
Verify your firewall settings and make sure Thunderbird isn't blocked.
You can easily verify your password using webmail.
