POP Mail configuration problem

I am new to iOS and the iPhone, having just bought a 4S. My principal email account is a POP account, and I've imported its settings from my computer using iTunes sync.
I have unlimited storage on my mail server and keep almost all old emails on file there.
My problem is that the phone keeps polling the server and retrieving old email messages as I delete new ones from the phone. This is totally useless to me and a real irritant.
How do I configure an iPhone to view (all) messages on the server as read, and thus ignore them???

I have converted to IMAP and everything seems stable. I would delete this thread if I had the power to.

[N95] Mail Configuration Problem

Hi,
Something had happened to me twice in the last two weeks with may N95's mailboxes, for some reason they disappear from my phone as they were deleted.
I could be my fault, playing with Y-Browser or other apps, but as far as I recall I did not delete any file which I did not know its reason of being there.
Do someone have this problem?
Where are the mail files located?

Frontier mail send problem

I Can receive mail using the mail app but can not send it. Seemed like it ran fine before IOS upgrade to 7.1.2
FRontier support sent all the settings for incoming and outgoing mail. I have DSL . tried to set up additional outgoing servers but had no luck. Frontiers uses POP3

HT6147 iOS 7.0.6 update - mail sending problems & uncontrollable apps closing

Hi all!
I’m having problems on two iPads after installing iOS 7.0.6 update. The first one is “sending mails via Exchange account and gmail is a NO GO!” an the second is “closing apps from time to time uncontrollably”. With iOS 7.0.4 this worked fine.
Anyone with same or similar problems? Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I already tried rebooting and deleting/adding accounts again in mail app with no positive effect.
Since iPads are used by company’s managers where seamless emailing is crucial function, this made iPads expensive bricks and nothing more.
The rest of iPads are to stay on the older version till this is fixed or workaround is found.

Trash and Send . I have a new IPAD 2 and I do not have any of my e mails in the send and trash folders. I have had the IPAD about three weeks and have sent and deleted many e mails. Do I have some wrong settings or configuration problem??

Once you connect to the Wifi Network once, then the iPhone or iPad remembers it and attempts to connect automatically in the future, but you have to tap to connect to that Wifi the first time. Like the first time you get on your home wifi, or the first time you go the a certain hotel, etc.

Slow outgoing Pop mail with Lion- is anyone else having this problem? Email without attachments can take 10 minutes or more to go.

Outgoing pop mail is very slow - at times 10 - 20 minutes and more, even on messges with no attachments. This has happened since my upgrade to Lion. My DSL line tests out ok, but Apple says it must be a slow line. Any one else have problems?

POP is only used for incoming mail. Some POP servers are the same as SMTP servers.
Check to make sure your internet service provider can either give you an SMTP server, or that you are using password authentication to get to an outside line with the proper port. Outside SMTP servers are often on one of the ports 587, 2626, 2662, and often use your full e-mail address for username authentication.

POP Mail - Go Daddy: Problem with outgoing emails

I just set-up an email account on Go Daddy with my domain name. I want to use Mail as my client and followed all the instructions to set-up the POP mail in Preferences/Account.
The problem I have is with outgoing email which get rejected due to password not accepted. But the inconsistency is that I can receive email in Mail using the same password.
What's up here? Please help!

What is the precise error you are receiving from the server? Does it say it cannot authenticate with that username and password?
What do you have your SMTP server set as? Is it SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET? If so, try these different ports.

SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET:3535
It could be that your host does not allow you to send mail through SMTP servers other than theirs. If using the above servers and ports does not work, try your ISP's SMTP server.

POP Mail Problem - Double messages

Since upgrading to 3.0, my iPhone POP mail is exhibiting a strange behavior.
When I retrieve POP mail (I do not use MobileMe), messages are downloaded twice, at the same time.
This only seems to happen when I am connected via 3G network, not via wifi.
Anyone see similar behavior? Any suggested fixes?

Same problem here. It doesn't always happen and does only seem to happen when on 3G.

Mail configurations pop/imap

The cox mail arrives nicely in my apple mail, configured port 25.
The aol mail does not work, how do I configure it? Port 25 does not work on aol mail, it suggest port 587, but this one will not work on the cox mail.
Cox mail is configured as "pop", aol mail as "imap" in the prefs.
Is it possible to receive both cox and aol in apple mail, and if so, how?

I was getting items in my Inbox just fine. I believe you have to set Root Folder Path to \[Gmail\] with the brackets around it. This option is available by right-clicking your account and select Properties. Scroll to the IMAP tab to find Root Folder Path.

How do I use iCloud to backup my POP Mail

how do I backup mail that uses POP Mail?
When I go to my iCloud and check my backup apps. I can not find the option to add my Mail that is configured for POP.
I just have the option for the mail function of me.com

It sounds like my problem is the same as yours..... Sorry, but I'm a bit of an iPad dummy so am writing for some more clarification...
My problem is..... I am away from home and only travelling with my iPad, however we have sold our house and my bigpond email address on my iPad is getting clogged with all the solicitors stuff etc, so I really need these emails for my files...
I want to be able to backup these up (so that I can retrieve them later to print out and file) and delete them from my iPad...
I've just created an iCloud email account (I think) is this what you did? So should I forward all my emails to this iCloud email account? And will I be able to retrieve them later?

BIZARRE POP mail issue

This is a strange one:
I have been using an exchange mail account via POP mail on my Mac Mail program for 6 months, no problems. (I could never get it properly configured as an exchange account, with errors about the root certificate that could never be resolved...)
I recently configured entourage to work as well so that I could share company contacts, calendar, etc...
Once I had it configured properly (which entailed installing the root certificate as both X509 and intermediate), I lost the ability to receive (POP) mail from that account into my Mac Mail program (which I GREATLY prefer to work in...)
I can still send from my pop account in Mac Mail, but I'm not receiving new mail- the hourglass just spins, it says it's connected to the server and nothing downloads. (connection doctor is all green lights...) Entourage is still receiving that mail account via exchange settings, and even stranger my phone is receiving the account via POP settings....
Steps I've taken so far: Been on tech support with both Microsoft & our internal IT department to verify that server settings are correct. Removed all mail-related items from my keychain, removed and re-installed root certificates, Deleted the .plist file from my library & rebuilt my mailbox, pulled out hair and have considered drastic steps such as reformatting(!)
Any thoughts? I know this one is really odd so I VERY much appreciate any insight so I don't end up muttering on the street, washed-up and bitter.

In some cases, problematic messages stored on a POP server can interrupt the normal flow of e-mail. The solution is to delete these messages from the server, which should cause resumption of normal e-mail delivery. There are three prominent methods for accomplishing this task:
If your ISP offers a Webmail-based junk mail checking feature, login and delete any messages marked as "quarantined" as well as old, unnecessary messages (especially those with large attachments).
For Mail.app, try control-clicking (or right-clicking) on the problematic mailbox, then scrolling down to and selecting "Get Info." Navigate to the "Messages on Server" tab. You may be able to highlight and delete problem-causing messages from this window.
Use the utility POPmonitor. This application can delete e-mail messages directly from the server without intervention from your e-mail client and therefore remove potentially problem-causing e-mail messages that your client might choke on.
Look through your inbox for items with no "sender", or no date, or no subject or specific junk mail messages that could be causing the issue. Delete them, and your mail may start flowing again. A good initial method for locating these messages is to organize your inbox display by "Date," then look at the top or bottom of the list for unrealistic or blank dates.
Use a different mail client (such as Mozilla's Thunderbird if you are using Mail.app or vice versa) to check your mail and delete these problematic messages, which may not show up in your current client.

Download POP Mail on Both iMac and a Macbook?

Hello,
I have my iMac and Macbook Pro configured to receive my POP mail and my IMAP mail. Is it possible to set the Preferences so that all messages are downloaded to both machines? At present, the first machine to receive the downloads holds the mail, but I work between both machines and would like to have access to all email.

I have a similar problem. I am using a gmail imap account. I am having trouble keeping them synced on 2 computers. Before tonight when I read a message on computer #2 it would show up as read on computer #1. However if I read the message on computer #1 it won't show up as read on computer #2. Then out of stupidity and attempting to fix it I synced my system preferences with mobile me with computer #1 settings and now it won't update either computer. This works the same with deleting emails. Any help would be great.

10.8 client and 10.6 server email pop and imap problem

10.6 server have email server running (pop and imap), when i configure same email account (pop) on 10.7 machine and 10.8 machines , 10.7 machine works , but 10.8 pop does not working
let me explaing further :
when i use 10.8 mail application to setup pop mail account it does not connecting . But i used the same account to connect imap it connect on 10.8 machine.
the same mail account connect to another 10.7 machine with POP and IMAP for testing reason , it works with out any issues
POP server is running and this email account's users profile enable POP and IMAP mail settings.

Try checking the Authentication Type for the POP account. It is located in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > selected account > Advanced
10.8 tends to use Apple Token. I think you will need to use a type of MD5 Challenge-Response or Password.

My firefox recently updated. Now my pop mail server won't work. I did a 'restore' to last week, and it was fine. It has now auto updated. No mail server.

I have read through several responses to others who are having problems following an update. I am not computer savvy enough to understand half of the recommended 'solutions'. I need clear and definitive instructions of what to do. (Instruction for 'dummies' is what I need.) I can not 'restore' my computer continuously, only to have the auto updates cause the pop mail server to stop working each time. If there is nothing I can do, I guess I will have to stop using Mozilla Firefox. Can you help?

There is no solution for Firefox and POP. Firefox doesn't do email and has no need for a POP email server.
If you are using Firefox to view and send "email", you are accessing a webmail service provider.
