POP server reject the password for....

Dear All,
I am trying to set-up the mail client of  my macmini runing Lion Server (on the same machine), but I get the message
"POP server reject the password for user "John".
As I am not an expert on Lion Server, can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong.
The loggin account name on the server is "John", PW is "1", domain is "exemple.jp"
The mail address is concequently [email protected]
1st: is the POP server PW different from user loggin password?
2nd :is there a place on the mail pop server for user password.
3rd: how does this work??
Thanks for any help.
Bruno

Sorry I can't be of help, I know of others with this problem. In my case I have two accounts that don't work in Mail whilst the other accounts do. I suspect it may be a bug as I've been looking for a solution for sometime. My current solution is to collect the mail on those accounts with an XP netbook which is probably not very helpful!
I have also tried the Keychain repair and at least for a short while it looked as if it had fixed it.
Any ideas anybody before I go through the hassle of reinstalling everything?

  • Mail: The POP server rejected the password for user

I am completely unable to use Mail.
I keep getting the "The POP server rejected the password for user" on two of my accounts.
The password has not changed and I have entered it correctly.
The accounts just will not go online.
This started yesterday when an old machine accidentally fired up mail and tried to connect using the same user details. Since then, my MacBook Pro is not able to connect to my mail.
My iPad and my iPhone can. There is no problem at the server or the ISP. I have also run the Keychain repair utility.
Please can you advise how I should fix it? Plist? Define the accounts again?
    Any ideas welcome.
    Thanks

  • The POP server rejected the password for user

Hi Im new to this forum but need help! I can usually fix most things on my mac but the last 2 weeks mail will not recieve any incoming messages as is just says "The POP server “mailin.macmail.com” rejected the password for user “****”
I have looked at other postings and tried keychain etc but nothing will work. This happens with 2 accounts one from macmail and one from NTL (my ISP) I can send mail fine (no password) and can go on to webmail and get my messeages fine on both accounts.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
    Many thanks

  • "POP server rejected the password"

I run Mail with 4 accounts from the same ISP.
Mail keeps saying that the password has been rejected by the POP server, and asks me to reenter it.
I tick the box to save in keychain.
Once I click OK, i will usually get another one for another account within seconds.
Some days I get this repeated over and over.
I have checked the keychain first aid, and there seems to be no problem there.
    The passwords are all saved.
Does anybody know how to stop this annoying interruption?

Now we are finding some similarity with the problems. Does this only seem to happen with the Mail? Not with the 'connection' itself?
I too have Comcast, and they have done some things with me without telling. My Mail is working fine tho... it is setup and holds it's settings and password for each 15 minute fetch.
Let's check further: are any of you trying to connect 'more then' one computer to there modem at a time? Do you have a 'router'? Is a printer connected to your network? Are you connected with 'Built-in Ethernet'? Or thru an 'Airport'?
Reasons I'm asking these questions is first: I've had 2 computers and a printer on my network with WiFi, and the IP kept changing on my printer... this was a Comcast thing I later found out. Then, only 1 computer was allowed to be connected per service... another Comcast thing. So now only 1 computer can be on at a time, each with their own IP address. If I do what Comcast says and connect 'hardwired' it works beautiful... but, to get my home network to function well is not easy. I tweak things and get them to work... for a while... then Comcast does another Fix... and here we go again. Yes, I have talked with them at length, and I believe they 'envision' one paid 'residential' service equals one computer... totally ignoring such a thing as a home network. Of course, living in close proximity to other WiFi signals, they may see it as, who is legal and who is trying to connect free... so, they take action to prevent it, and so, screw me up, a paying customer.
With Mail always asking for passwords, mine does not. But it is set in Mail to remember it and use 'password' authentication. The 'KeyChain' does the rest. Could some of your settings not be that way? If ones IP address changes (even if Comcast does it) then that is the legal computer for Mail Fetching from that Account. I have found this with my 2 computers... only 'one' is the legal account 'master', the other is not, even tho both have an IP address from Comcast. The only way I have found to change this is to unplug their modem and shutdown my 'other' computer; restart their modem and hardwire my other computer; start the computer, getting an IP address... then Mail will Fetch from that one, even if I re-hook up the network. That computer now is the 'master' and the other is not. but each time, I have to hardwire the change first, like it taps into the computers serial number and that is the one for their account holder.
What are your set-ups? How are you connected? Hardwired? WiFi? Only one computer, or multiple? This may start showing more similarities along with the similar problems...

  • Pop-server rejecting my password

i have an e-mail account at netidentity.com. i've had it for about five years. it's been configured within mail.app flawlessly since that, most of the time. but from time to time, i am repeatedly prompted for my password. the popup says that the pop-server rejected the pasword for that account, and please enter it again. if i enter my password, it's rejected and the prompt pops up again immediately. this can go on, and i have to cancel, leaving the account inactive for some time. the situation usually resolves in a day or two, but meanwhile, i'll have to check my mail using their not at all that good webmail service.
this time around (yesterday and today) this situation occurs when i'm at home. using only an airport express and the modem, no firewall. at work, however, there are plenty of firewalls, but i could get my mail as expected. at other times though, this would happen no matter where i'm at.
does anyone have any clues as to what i could be doing wrong? or is this just the internet weather conditions we live under?

  • Recurrent Mail error: "The server rejected the password"

I've gotten this error message in various versions of Mac OS X on different Macs.
Occasionally this dialog will pop up in Mail saying:
    Enter Password for account _______
The server rejected the password for user [my email].
Enter your password again or cancel
Then at the bottom of the dialog there's a checkbox to "Remember this password in my keychain"
Even though I ALWAYS check that box when entering my password, when that error comes up, the box is always unchecked!!
Does the fact that the box is unchecked mean that Mail thinks the password is NOT stored, and if I fail to enter my password again, it will simply stop trying to access my mail?
Is there a way to tell Mail that, since I have stored the password already in the keychain, just keep trying and don't give me that annoying message?

    Pages 5.5.2
As I understand it a .5xx pages file (.pages) is actually a folder and is therefore compressed into a zip file when emailing. Certainly, when you email a .pages file (recent version), it arrives as a .Zip even though you don't compress it. I'm pretty sure this was NOT the case with earlier versions.
The key thing here however, is not so much sending a .pages file or any other.zip file - these can be sent by iCloud quite happily. It is about why iCloud won't receive them.  If I send a .pages or .zip file from iCloud to my business email, it arrives without any problem. If I send to my iCloud address I get the message size violation - every time.
And just to re-iterate, I have tried sending Zips and Pages files to several other iCloud accounts and they ALL had the same issue.

  • The IMAP server ... rejected the password for user ...

When I went to bed last night, Apple Mail (Lion, MacBook Pro) worked fine on my home IMAP server, as they have done for some time.
This morning, I cannot log in and I now get the following error message:
The IMAP server “...” rejected the password for user “...”.
The password is definitely correct.  I have typed in the password repeatedly (although it was already correct) to no avail - I just get the same error message again.
    Since then, I have tried:
    my Linux laptop using Thunderbird
my Xoom (running Android ICS) and K9
my SGS2 (running Honeycomb) and K9
my iPad 2 using IOS Mail
Roundcube (webmail client) on the MacBook Pro itself (so no connectivity issues)
and all still work perfectly.  There have been no changes to my mail server (which is Dovecot running on Debian Squeeze, which has been running flawlessly for years) and none to my MacBook Pro (unless they were silent).
I have tried deleting all the relevant items from my keychain, but that has made no difference either.
    Any ideas because I'm stumped?

Since I posted this, there has been more, but slightly different, weirdness.
In the middle of a session yesterday, Apple Mail started to do something different.  When I typed in the password, it briefly worked (downloading one or two messages) and then the error dialogue box popped up again so clearly the password was always correct.
A short while later, it accepted the password and stopped complaining until ten minutes ago.  This time I only had to type in the password once and it is working at the moment but who knows how long for?

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

  • Intermittent "The mail server rejected the password" on SBC-Yahoo

I have Mail set to automatically check email every 5 minutes from an SBC-Yahoo DSL line.
*Every day* when I come home, the "Server rejected the password" error dialog is waiting for me. Of course, the password is correct. When I re-enter it, Mail downloads the mail correctly.
This problem seems to occur more often since I switched over from the old prodigy.net to the sbc.yahoo.com servers.
While I sure wished that Mail was not totally boneheaded in handling the occasional failed POP connection attempt, I wonder whether:
    1. I am the only one having this problem
    2. It's a Yahoo problem

I am having the same problem. I have to re-type my password for two POP accounts each time I start MAIL. It doesn't hold the SMTP passwords either.
Once I go into the preferences and re-type them it will connect fine until I restart MAIL and I have to start all over again...I too wonder the same things!

  • Mail Password Issue (server rejecting the password)

Every time i try to get my email i get a message back that says "The MobileMe IMAP server 'mail.me.com' rejected the password for user dswich".  Is there a way to reset (or retrieve) my password so that i can get back into my email?  Because clearly i don't have the right password......

I have the same issue.  Just replaced a hard drive and restored everything.  Only thing that did not come with it were the mail info.  No big deal, I thought.  But when I tried to put in all the password information, it would not accept it.  It is the only thing left to do.  Email boxes-everything imported back in from my backup hard drive.  Just a little frustrated right now.
Ok.  Just changed my password according to iCloud requirements.  Still no joy.  I get email on my iPad and my iPhone, but I cannot seem to get the mail sent to my computer with the new hard drive.  So, I am with you.  Is there a way to verify the email settings?

    Hi
You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password.  Some do, but many do not.  When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.
    Good luck
    Bob

  • Keep getting asked for my password for email.  Says my POP server rejected my password.  How do I fix this?

I keep getting asked for my password for email.  Says my POP server "pop.charter.net" rejected the password.  In the past I just went into my email and it came up automatically.

In Keychain, in the Keychain window, select "login". In the category window, select passwords.
In the name field, look for name of your outgoing server for that account (like smtp.mail.yahoo.com, outbound.att.net, or whatever outgoing server you have).
Just highlight it and delete it. Delete any and all for that account.
You also may want to check and make sure all your outgoing server settings are correct in Mail preferences. If any info is incorrect, it will not work. Sometimes providers change servers and you don't know about it. You may want to check that if the Keychain fix doesn't work.

  • Yahoo pop server rejects my password

I use Apple Mail 3.5 on OS 10.5.6. The mail comes through the Yahoo server and then into my Apple Mail account. I have a POP account which has a password. I have used this password for years without a problem. Now I am getting a Apple Mail dialog box to enter my password which is already in my keychain. When I enter it I get a response that "pop.att.yahoo.com" has rejected my password. New mail is being retained in my web mail on Yahoo which carries the same password. I notice that I can send out mail on Apple Mail but cannot receive because the pop account has rejected my password.
Any ideas about what to do?

    1. Do not fetch mails more than once every five minutes. Some mail servers will interpret high frequencies in fetching email as attacks.
    2. Go to Mail.app > Preferences > Accounts > pick the yahoo account > Advanced > enable "Use SSL" and make sure port 995 is entered just below it.
If that doesn't help please post back the settings of your SMTP server in 2. Go to Mail.app > Preferences > Accounts > pick the yahoo account > Outgoing Mail Account drop down > Edit server list > Advanced.
