POP shut-off and strange behavior, what should I do?
Hello Everyone!
I just purchased a Powerbook 1GHz 17" (used), that apparently was recently sent to apple and received a new logic board, a new case, and new parts for the airport extreme.
I started working with it today, had it plugged in to the power adaptor, and after only a few hours, I suddenly heard a POP! and everything went blank.
I started it up, it acted a little finicky about starting...
Worked with it for a few more hours, again, without warning, heard it again... POP! and everything went blank.
This time, I had a little more trouble getting it to start up, tried holding down the powerkey... after 5 seconds of holding it down, I heard this tone... then the sleep light on the latch blinked for a period.
It then started up normally.
I continued to work with it, I installed Dreamweaver, and when it was finished installing, I entered in the Serial number, and the moment I pressed "continue", the screen changed to grey with vertical "pinkish" lines.... is that related to the two POPs?
I did some reading, and decided to try taking out the RAM, I have an extra 256MB to test it with, so I swapped out one of the RAM chips, we'll see what happens.
Can any of you guys give me any sort of indication as to what might be the problem, what I should test or look for?
Also, the POP sort-of sounded like a fuse that just popped, what could that be?

shut down like that is not very good.
power flows from the power adapter to the so called sound board, then to logic board and from there to display and the drives.
here you can check the warranty by entering serial number where it says "About Your Support Coverage"

see if it works from the battery with power adapter disconnected (in case it's bad adapter), or from the adapter with the battery removed in case it's bad battery.
otherwise you may wnat to backup important files and get it diagnosed by authorised service provider.
if the logic board was replaced recently, it will have 90 days part warranty from the replacement date.

Yesterday my phone automatically shut off I triede everything I knew to turn it on by pressing down the home a nd lock button and it didn't work! Any suggestions?
you can put the phone in recovery mode by holding the home button while you are plugging it into a computer with itunes but this will erass every thing on you phone so it should only be done if you have a back up made or really need you phone

My MBP was working fine, but then the display just shut off... What should I try?
I was using my MacBook Pro 2011 13', when the display suddenly shut off. I thought at first that the computer shut down, but after a hard reset, the computer is on (keys lighting up, fan noises, heartbeat light on) but the display is completely black. I no longer have apple coverage. Does anyone have a recommendation of things I could try before taking it in?
Try resetting the SMC.

If your cursor isn't working as expected, there are a few steps that can help isolate or resolve the issue.
First, try booting your computer into safe mode:

If the cursor is working normally in safe mode, this usually means OS X is fine, and the issue is caused by conflicting software in your user account.
Next, see if Finder behaves normally in a new user account. The steps in this article also apply to creating a new user in Mavericks:

If the issue persists in safe mode and a new user, I would recommend reinstalling Mavericks:

I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. I dried it and shook out as much water as I could. I removed the SD card and put everything in a bowl of rice. It is still in there and everything appears to be working normally, but it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. I've tried the restart thing where you press and hold the pwr button and the home button. What should I do?

sometimes if the battery drains completely you will need to leave it plugged into a charger for 10-15 minutes before you get any activity at all. this is normal

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If nothing, Reset while connected to charger, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both button while on charger.

I think you mean it's crashing or quitting unexpectedly.
Most likely due to third party Safari add ons. Follow the instructions for troubleshooting here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If you can't resolve the issue, post a crash report so we can try and help you get Safari going again.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder. -
My iphone 4S only start whit cable plug in and then show battery very low (with red line end) then try to turn on but show searching in operator name command and not connecting and no work properly and when I plug out it turn off!!! what should I do?
I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry. -
My 1st generation Time Capsule/2007 keeps shutting off and disconnecting from internet? What could be the problem? How long do the Time Capsules usually last?
That it is still working is miraclous.. most have died.. lots started flaking out at 18months to 2years..

I recently got my iPhone 5 unlocked and the other day I updated my phone to ios 7. After doing so my phone shut off and turned on and it said I had no service. I guess it completely wiped out my unlock. I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to fix it!!
How, EXACTLY, did you get it "unlocked"? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.
