Pop sounds

I just updated my songs in iTunes, and noticed that my songs have pop sounds in them. And this is the first time I've noticed it so I know that it's not the songs themselves. I have the volume levelling option on (where it makes the volumes for all the songs the same). Would this make a difference? If so, could I turn the volume thing on, let it level the volumes, then turn it off and have the volumes remain the same?

Nope.  I wasn't clear enough.  The sound chosen still gets played after the pop sound is heard.  It's like the sound card pops on and then the expected sound is played.  It seems to happen in all the apps but only happens if there is an idle time of a few minutes between played sounds.

So in the last few days I’ve noticed that pressing my volume change keys actually isn’t changing the volume on my macbook pro at all. When I press the volume up or down keys, it makes the recognisable pop sound but stays at the same volume while the squares go up or down. I mute it but my computer still makes sound. It’s the same with the volume control up the top of the screen, too. I slide it up and down and it doesn’t change the volume at all. The only way I can change the volume is with my speakers or the program I’m in (iTunes, VLC etc). I restarted and it seems to be okay then I go to change it a couple minutes later and it’s back to not working again.
I’ve checked my settings- the “use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard fuction keys” is not switched on, and I have tried a suggestion of moving the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file out of the library and onto the desktop and restarting and neither of those seem to make any difference whatsoever. I’ve tried to find online forums but the only suggestions I found were those two and they didn’t work.
I’m just annoyed because I usually have the worst luck with technology but my macbook had been going strong and I got it because of the apparent lack of things that could go wrong, but of course even if there is one thing that could go wrong it will happen to me.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks (from 10.7.8), I get a popping sound on my speakers even with mute.  Suggestions?

I've never had an issue with my sound on my MBP 15" 2011 model until I upgraded to Mavericks.  Shortly after I upgraded, I started getting a 'popping' sound coming from the speakers even with the volume muted.
I'm trying to figure out what could be causing it by eliminating running programs but no luck yet.  So far I've tried:
    disabling graphic switching
disabling the Flash plug in for Chrome
Checking Voice over settings in accessibility (off)
    Killing coreaudiod
So far, only killing coreaudiod has worked for any length of time.
I'm not playing a sound, I have nothing in the background that's generating sound (with the exception of MS Office 2013 running in Parallels generating meeting notification alerts - that seems to cause part of it) but something is obviously triggering it.
    Thoughts?  Comments?  Suggestions?

Might be corrupted audio preferences ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following;
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Click Go then move both .plist files from the Audio folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.audioDeviceSettings.pllist
    com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference ...

  • My Ipad 2 external speakers does not work and headphones has popping sound. This all occured at the same time as my Iphone and Ipod headphones only played mono (no, the "mono" option is not on). How can there be audio issue for all these devices?

My IPad 2 external speaker does not work and the original headphones have popping sound when used. This all occurred at the same time as my IPhone and IPod headphones only plays mono (and no, the "mono" option is not on) with the original headphones, as well as, other headphones tested.  How can there be audio issue for all these devices at the same time?
As you may have noted from the list of Apple devices I own, I believed in the Apple and the products it was producing; but it is hard to believe from my experience and the other voices within the Apple Community that we are all experiencing the same hardware issues. Especially since I recently, I upgraded to an IPhone 4g (no, my faith in IPhone 5 series is very little) and is experiencing the same audio problem as described above. So now, I am off to the Apple store again to be told that it’s a hardware problem on new IPhone. Really? Apple, what happen to the pride in the product you were producing?

Everyone does things a little differently. I love to "jam " along with iTunes ( or old Lp's) . Always have. That's where/how I've learned to play .
I'm sure leonieDF is giving a proper way to jam along on a keyboard with an iTune. He blows my mind all the time with what he knows. Nuff respects to him !
What I do is make a GB project I call "Jam With". I'll make several new tracks that are blank. Just has a few instruments named in the blank tracks. You can change those per song ...
Because I'm not concerned about changing the pitch / key.... of the iTune or the tempo ... I can simply play along with it.
    Peace,

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

  • A Single POP Sound from Left speaker, after system heavy load.

Hello From Russia)) I bought Brand New Macbook pro 15" Late 2011 Ci7, this is incredible machine. But a month past and i started to notice a very strange behavior:
When i using mac for resource "Eating" application or processes my computer starts to Heat-this is normal.
When i close all the apps here starts interesting) I have Istat installed, so i can see what temps are in my system. Computer is cooling, and when cpu reaches 50-55 degrees (Celsium, from 80 degrees, because of heavy load) ,my left speaker produces a single loud pop sound. (like something turning of may be)
In other terms of use absolutely is fine! It is very strange and i dont know is normal or not(
Thank you very much, and sorry for my english.

That is not something I would expect.  I would go to a repair facility and have it checked.
    Ciao.

  • The 'popping' sound

I have the problem with strange intermittent small popping sound (which has been mentioned in other posts)
It comes from the top hand left corner of the keyboard and seem to have noting to do with the speaker (it’s occurring regardless of volume and persists even with the speakers at mute)
The problem is easily cured in OSX by opening and closing ‘Photo Booth’ after a restart.
But this very annoying problem is also present when I run XP via Boot Camp, opening and closing iSight doesn’t help there, any suggestions???

The notorious popping sound that seems to be prolific is DRIVING ME CRAZY! Does ANYONE have any other ideas? I've tried all of the "fixes" from all of the posts made so far but it just won't go away. I don't want to take my machine to
Apple because I'd develop serious separation anxiety (and it doesn't look like that helps either by the sound of other's experience). HELP!

  • I Have a soft popping sound coming out of my 2009 mini....

I am using the some BA MM 220 external speakers on this early 2009 mini...and about every 45-90 seconds i hear a soft popping sound. It does not matter what levels the mini is set too, or what levels the speakers are set too...i get this single soft pop every minute or so....

Mine is not a mini problem...it happens without it being even attached to the computer. So its either a speaker problem, like maybe the power supply/amplifier has issues, or its a problem with my power lines.
I just picked up a couple of those x10 pro plug adapters that might solve the problem, They are designed to filter out power line noise...i'll let you know if they work.

  • "Popping" sound through external speakers

I'm using the Apple Pro speakers through an iFire on my G5 iSight and have been getting a popping sound through the external speakers. This does not happen with the internal ones. This topic is mentioned over on the intel iMac discussions board and seems to be a widespread problem. It appears that many different brands of speakers are making the popping sounds. My external speakers work perfectly with my iBook. The external speakers sound much better than the internal ones. I hope there is a fix for this. Anyone else have this problem?

  • POP sound come out from air vent

Hi every mac user out there,
My MacBook pro 15 inch recently don't know why, start to have a pop sound out from the back of my MacBook pro's air vent, this started after I open the below case just for checking(because last time I saw a little tiny bug going inside!), after that I heard the pop sound, in early state, sound I quite loud so I think maybe is my hand or some other thing make it, then a few day ago, there still has a pop sound but just a small sound from the vent, after about 5min of usage it will show up, any idea?
Note:my mac does not has any dust inside the fans or the vent, I haven't do any battery calibration or any rmc or NVRAM reset recently, I not over use my mac only does when editing some movie and play game ,does this affect them?

I also have this problem with my Extreme Gamer Fatilty X-Fi. In 6 channel direct mode 5. works perfectly but if I switch to the SPDIF mode connected to that Creative Digital I/O addon thing the rear left and rear right sound comes out of the front right and front left. This is with the latest drivers. I tried a clean re-install of the drivers and apps using driver cleaner but the sound is still messed up.
I guess thats an improvement in for me. With Vista 64, SPDIF didn't even work at all till the more recent drivers, so I guess you could call it progress, creative style.
I am lucky I have little need for SPDIF with this card as its not a main source of movies/TV for me. This system is mostly used for gaming, and at least that works good. Had I needed this for a HTPC or something I would be very very pissed off. If I had paid for that DDL thing I would be livid having already paid for their $4 Digital adapter addon which is rendered worthless.

  • Popping sound when running WMP in full scr

Basically, I installed the card with a new computer. The specs are:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Mother Asus AV8
Memory 2x52 Dual Channel Corsair Xms
80 Gb Matrox 7200 RPM PATA
    Geforce4 6600 GT AGP
    X-fi ExtremeMusic
TV / Radio AVermedia TV Phone (old TV card)
    Sony DVD player
    Ext. DVD/RW
While playing any game, you might ear it from time to time. Not really noticeable.
While listening to music in WINAMP or WMP, no problem at all.
However, if I use WMP in Full screen, you can ear it pretty well.
Any solutions beside reinstalling or updating drivers?
Could it be that when changing into full screen, the video card requires more power, and introduce some noise in the system that produce the popping sound in the sound card? (I have a 430Watts power supply)
    Thanks
    Max

    You can check if
    - decreasing the hardware acceleration (2 D graphics),
    - decreasing the PCI latency for the grapgics (28),
    - enabling the AGP fast write
    - increasing the AGP aperture size into size of your geforce's onboard memory,
    - lowering graphics resolution to 24-bit
    - increasing the PCI Latency for sound card (64 or 28),
    - (if the popping comes when you move the mouse then) decreasing the mouse sampling rate,
    - changing performance optimization for applications (instead of background services) or vice versa if already set for applications
    - using ASIO (plugin needed) with winamp
makes any difference with winamp popping issues.

  • IMac CRT making POP sounds

my bondi blue iMac is making loud popping sounds, and the screen is flickering..
it is completely random, even though i am expecting it to do it, it always scares me everytime it does it...
is this thing going to explode, catch fire? it has never been opened, or anything...
please help, this was my first USB based Mac!!!

That sounds just like symptoms of Flyback Transformer (FBT) failure. A very common problem in early, tray-loading iMacs.
You can fix it yourself, if you are comfortable working around HIGH VOLTAGE. Look here - MacOpz Flyback Transformer repair.
It may be best to either a) connect an external monitor to the iMac, or b) take the hard drive out, as your data should still be safe.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Creates a Pop Sound! :(

I have two editing machines. My main editing machine has no problems like this.
My new one is an Asus G75VX with great specs. Everything is great so far with editing video from my Sony HDR CX550V accept the audio has a very subtle pop sound in it when playing back through premiere and no matter how I export it there is a pop sound in the same places. Even if I "match sequence settings" i got it in the exported file.
The original file does not have any of the pop sounds. Here are the file properties:
    File Path: E:\Video Projects\Video Files\Nashville\3-22-2013\20130321224040.m2ts
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 518.9 MB
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - 6 channels
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - 6 channels
    Total Duration: 00;03;13;06
Average Data Rate: 2.7 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
This doesn't happen when I play the original file through Sony Picture Motion or any other player. But, when I play the exported premiere file through anything it has the subtle pops...
Please help, this is really holding me back!!!

Yes, non-Zero-Crossings can introduce "pops," as you mention. I have requested that same Audition Cut on Zero-Crossings function.
Often with the Timeline set to Audio Units, Snap OFF, and some tight editing, a non-Zero-Crossing glitch can be eliminated, but that Audition function would be wonderful.

  • Itunes crackling, popping sounds...

    Hi all,
I have been having annoying clacking/popping sounds in iTunes 8.02.20.
Please do not direct me to the link intitled "iTunes and QuickTime: Audio does not play or plays incorrectly" since I checked and tried everything there.
The problem affects only songs played in iTunes (not Media player or sounds in games or streaming online). Not all songs are affected but I am not going to systematically go through my library to figure out which ones are not working. Interestingly, I noticed this problem for songs downloaded from the iTunes store and more often then not its classical music.

I installed iTunes for the first time this weekend on my XP Pro machine and was having the same problem. After much trial and error I discovered what was causing the crackling/popping sounds with all my songs in iTunes and in my case Quicktime also. Quicktime's default audio size was set to 8-bit and the rate to 32kHz. Both were the lowest settings available. I changed the audio size to 24-bit and the rate to 192kHz, then applied my settings and closed out of Quicktime. This completely resolved my issue. No more crackling/popping sounds in iTunes or Quicktime.
The Quicktime settings in question can be accessed via the file menu in Quicktime per the below...
    Edit->Preferences->Quicktime Preferences->Audio->Sound Out->
Good luck! I hope this simple change in Quicktime settings resolves the issue for you as it has for me. In my case I was installing these applications for the first time and was only doing so in order to use iTunes as I'll be purchasing my first iPod in the next month or so. As such, I didn't think to check the settings in Quicktime right away as I was initially troubleshooting this problem.

  • Macbook Pro and Beolab3 random loud popping sound

I'm using Macbook Pro and Bang & Olufsen Beolab3 speakers (powered speakers) connect using headphone output but I hear random loud popping sound. Sometimes so loud that it made me jump. It is definitely not a program generated sound. It is more like some sort of electrical interference. This could happen both while an audio is being played or just on standby. The laptop is less than a month old.
The speakers are fine as I tested with other laptop. Is this normal for this combination? or there actually is a fault with my sound card? I need to know so I can do something about it while it is under warrantee. I was recommend to get a audio DAC. But I need to make sure that it is not a problem with the laptop first.
    Thanks. Please help. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your Mac is all mucked up. Your recourse is an Apple store or Authorized Apple Service. You can also all AppleCare.
