Pop-up menus and Flash image

My development page has two things on it that are conflicting
with one another. I have a flash movie, and a pop-up menu. I would
like the menu to pop over top of the flash object, but quickly
learned that certain objects naturally float up to the top -
Thread
- But, the fix on this thread won't work for what I'm trying to do.
Is there any other way to get my menu pop over the movie? I
noticed the adobe main page has its menus overtop the flash movie,
so it must be possible, somehow. . . right?
Here's my
Test Page if it
helps to see what's going on. The pop-up in question is located at
"What We Do" -> "Programs"

The key is a special Flash parameter called WMODE, short for
Window Mode.
You'll need to add this parameter to your movie, set to
transparent. The
fastest way in Dreamweaver is to select your Flash movie and,
from the
Property inspector choose Parameters. In the dialog box that
opens, add
wmode in the Parameter column and transparent under Value.
That should do
the trick!

  • Pop-Up Menus and active content errors - Help!

I'm attempting to add pop-up menus to my navigation bar, to
make my site more user-friendly, but to no avail:
I've tried designing pop-up menus in Fireworks, then
importing the html code in, but that gives me errors when I try to
insert the bar. Then, I tried putting my menus in different layers,
with a "show layer" behavior on the button, and a "hide layer"
behavior attached to the roll-off of the layer, but my version of
Dreamweaver won't attach a behavior to a layer.
Then, I noticed the tech-note on this site for the fix to use
pop-ups in a template, so I added pop-up menus directly to my
navigational buttons using the wizard. So here's where my problem
    comes in. . .
When I preview my page, it throws up an active content error,
but will still run. I uploaded it to my remote server, but when I
went to the url, no action takes place when I put my cursor over
it. Anybody have any ideas on how to create a pop-up menu that
won't throw up an active content error? I've seen them on plenty of
websites before, but can't figure how to do them.
Any light you could shed would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes, they make your site less user-friendly. So be
    careful.
The DW/FW pop-up menus are usually something that should be
    avoided. They
are very poorly thought out and implemented, and will likely
    cause you
continuing problems. It's foolish to devote the time to them
    that could be
more effectively be placed elsewhere, especially since there
    are better
options that work right out of the box, so to speak. Please
    check the free
    and commercial options here -

    Don't use DW/FW pop-up menus.

  • Fireworks pop up menu and flash

    hi,
I want to have a page layout like adobe.com. Fireworks Pop up
menu on top and flash swf file beneth it, but my Fireworks css pop
up menu is hidden by flash swf file embeded when I bring it all
    together in Dreamweaver.
I guess this is because embeded files superceed the css
z-indexing but how do I overcome this isue. As I can see it can be
    done at adobe.com.

All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter.

  • Pop-up menus and frames

A web page with Fireworks 8 Javascript (not CSS) pop-up menus
imported into Dreamweaver 8 works fine on its own. However, if I
include the page in a frameset, the menus
appear to work OK (e.g. everything pops up and down when
expected, all the rollover transitions appear flawless, and the
pop-ups are well clear of the frame boundary), but when a popped up
    menu item is selected,
nothing happens - the top-level menu items are the only ones
which still navigate to their links.
(I normally avoid using framesets, but the frameset in this
instance has a useful applications function and I would be loth to
    remove it)

    Hi Max:
Did you define a target for your pop-up menu links? See:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/studio/articles/fwmx_popup03.html
Also make sure that the paths in the links are valid URLs.
It would seem strange that nothing is happening. How do the
    menus work
when you browse the Fireworks HTML directly outside the
    frameset? This
might give us a clue as to what's happening.

  • Pop up menus with Flash ?

Well. Here is a situation: I have created a Popup menu on
HTML, this is above a flash banner (Like the first page of
www.adobe.com) But, when I click on the button, no option is played
over the flash banner... I do not know why. it looks like cutted...
only those options which doesn't cover the flash banner appear.
So, as a first option I want to know what to do with HTML in
order to make it work (like adobe.com), as a second alternative, I
would like to know how to create popup menus with Flash. Thanx,
    Appreciate any help,

    I suggest either:
Take a class about flash at a community college OR
But a fully functional flash menu bar. They are customizeable
and usually can be insterted into HTML.
but in order to customize it you have to learn alot about
    flash and the component window.
But if you are really good at flash disregard the course in
    flash and buy one.
You can create your own in a movie clip and apply that to
    most of your SWF.
    Good luck

  • Popup Menus and Flash

    Hi All,
    I have created a you-beaut pop-up menu in Fireworks 8 and
have it sitting on the webpage just nicely however, on the page is
a Flash slideshow as well. The Popup menus are hidden behind the
    Flash content
Now I have read all the stuff about making wmode transparent,
    but it makes no difference.
Has anyone else come across this problem and found a
    solution?
    Thanks all.

A little reserved? I'm rabidly opposed to it. A menu system

that number lightly - it was actually on a menu that was

    decision - all my
experience is recoiling at this choice.,...

  • Pop-Up Menus and Calculations

    Hi all,
In my budget spreadsheet I am designing, I want to be able to denote the type of food each line item is in my "food" category. For example, I want to use a pop-up menu to indicate that the McDonald's I spent $5.66 on two days ago is a "Fast Food" type. After that, I want another cell to automatically detect that I selected that line item as a "Fast Food" type and then add whatever I spent in that line ($5.66) to any other line items that I designated as "Fast Food" types. Likewise, I want another cell to represent the total sum's of all my "Restaurant" and "Grocery" type food line items as well.
Thoughts on how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
I would suggest a separate table for your summary statistics. In the second table, use the SUMIF function to add up all the expenses in specified categories.
For example let's say your expense log is in a table called "Expenses", your expense type is in column B, and your amount spent per transaction is in column C. The formula in your summary table for adding up all your "Fast Food" expenses in your Expenses table would be: =SUMIF(Expenses :: B, “Fast Food”, Expenses :: C). It makes no difference whether your expense type is from a pop-up menu or typed in directly.
Use the Numbers 08 Help function for assistance with the SUMIF function.

No, not directly. You will need to use a DVD authoring tool like Encore or DVD Studio to build the actual menu. You can use Flash to create the individual artwork or parts of the animation to be used in the authoring tool.

  • Working with pop up menus in Dreamweaver CS4

this is my first time working with pop up menus in CS4 (have built many in previous versions), Adobe says you cannot create the pop up menus due to the new Spry feature - but that you can alter existing menus using the Behaviours panel
I have just launched a new website using pop up menus - and there is a glitch when viewing the rollover/pop up menus: I see a question mark to the left of each image in the menu (the images themselves are working beautifully), does anyone know why?
    view the website here:
    http://www.kiwihouse.org.nz
I want to keep the pop up menu so am looking for a solution to eliminate the floating question mark
does it have anything to do with the multiple javascripts on each page?.. I have one for the menus, and one for the multiple fadeshow
any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    dQ

Not sure if this is the problem, don't have time to go through all your code - but putting the page through the validator bought up a lot of errors...
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kiwihouse.org.nz%2F
Look at the 3rd error message - it's to do with the way the script link has been written.
Lots of other errors that need fixing as well.
On another note, these pop up menus are not the best way to create menus these days, that's why the pop up menu feature was removed from the latest DW version.

  • Strange problem with Dreamweaver Pop-Up menus

    Hello:
I have encountered a very strange problem with DreamWeaver
pop-up menus, and I was wondering if I could get some help from
this forum, as I can't seem to find an answer anywhere else.
The problem involves use of DreamWeaver's pop-up menu
behavior — all works as expected, and my local preview of the
Web page/site works fine, but when I upload the site to a server, I
see extra question mark and "box" characters added to my drop-down
menus. This problem is inconsistent between browsers: Sometimes I
see it only on IE, sometimes I also see it on Firefox.
For example, check out the following URLs:
    http://libertycreativesolutions.net/clients/cci/
... this implementation of drop-down menus ("Services"
button, etc.) displays an extra "box" character for each of the
drop-down menu items, but this only occurs in IE -- Firefox is
    fine.
    http://libertycreativesolutions.net/clients/microtek/HTML/MicroTek_home.html
... this implementation of drop-down menus shows an extra
question mark above the triggering link onMouseOver for Firefox,
and in IE, it shows this "box" character for both the triggering
buttons and for each menu item.
For both of these sites, the pop-up menus work without a
problem *when I'm looking at a local version on my workstation*.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is going on here????
Any help for this problem is appreciated.
Note that I stripped out the JavaScript code for menu
information from the <head></head> area of each of
these pages and placed it in a linked JavaScript document.

Your best choice here is probably a lookup table containing the possible values of the popup in column A, and the desired result value in column B.
    Here's an example.
I've added a "Choose" item to the pop-up menus ( "--" ) and made that the default value. The VLOOKUP function is included as the do-if-false part of an IF statement that keeps its cell 'blank' if a choice hasn't yet been made.
    Main::B2: =IF(A="--","",VLOOKUP(A,Lookup :: $A:$B,2,FALSE))
The fourth argument of VLOOKUP ( FALSE ) makes VLOOKUP require an exact match, and isn't really necessary here, as every possible search value is included in column A of the Lookup table.
    Regards,
    Barry
