Pop-ups blocked in XP

Hi,
I made sometime ago a project in flash/html which uses pop-up
windows from a flash page (script) to load html/flash windows.
It was working fine with the first releases of windows XP but
I've tried it recently and the pop-up windows are not loaded
anymore.
It works fine on a mac/safari.
The pop up blockers are disabled, no firewall, antivrus or
other 3rd party blockers are installed.
Because the script to pop-up the pages is embeded in a swf I
don't think it's a problem of the blockers, even if I'm not sure
because the poped-up page is an swf embeded in an html.
In IE the javascript is enable.
Should I review the actionscript or check the system?
Please help
thanks

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your help.
Your points on the script look very good, I'll review it
according to your suggestions.
I found out that it's a problem of security. The project has
been originally produced with a previous version of flash. This
means that the new player8 is suppose to ask the user to confirm
the will of playback contents which are considered 'suspicious'
just because published by a previous version of flash and therefore
not aligned with the new security standards of the os (this
shouldn't happen with movies published with the new flash player 8
settings).
In all platforms with all browsers (opera, firefox, safari in
both pc and mac) when this happens the browser warns you with a
message that leads you to this page:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04a.ht ml
where you can set a different level of security in the player
itself.
Simply clicking ALWAYS ALLOW the cd rom works fine!
The problem is that in windows xp sp2 running IE the browser
simply doesn't do the action once you click on the link to pop up
the window and, worst of all, it doesn't tell you anything, leaving
the user totally unaware of the possibility of switching that
ALWAYS ALLOW to run flash contents.
I might be able to bypass the pain for each user to switch
this panel re-publishing all the files of the project with the
latest version of flash for the flash player 8.
Hope this make sense and it is gonna help others with similar
problems.
cheers

I've had 'credit score' pop ups from 2 unconnected sites starting with the URL http://cdn.optmd.com/ tonight, despite having the pop up blocker enabled, including Snopes and one about old TV shows.
Does the URL sound legit? How is getting past my blocker?

  • I have pop ups blocked but every time I change web pages I get a pop up. How do I stop this?

I went to the TOOLS and OPTIONS and checked the box to BLOCK POP UPS but still every time I change web pages, no matter what they are, I get a pop up. Please help me to stop this. This is very annoying.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • Can't play card game at yahoo site because pop-ups aren't allowed but I don't have pop-ups blocked checked, what's the problem?

Block pop-up windows is not checked in my preferences, yet when I try to play a card game at a yahoo site it won't allow me to join table because it says "please set browser to allow pop-ups to join table". What do I do to join the games then?

Open Firefox -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content section ->
press "Exceptions..." button infront of "Block Pop-up Windows"
-> Type the address of the website you wish to unblock pop-ups from e.g. www.yahoo.com -> Allow -> Close -> "OK" the Options window

  • Pop ups blocked after latest down load. Mac 10.6 Safari 5 How do I fix this?

I need step by step instructions to fix this. I am not computer savvy at all.

Ok, this is the forum for Adobe Reader, which isn't at all the same as Flash Player. You need the Flash Player forum - turn left, just along the hall here -- Flash Player
    Good luck!

  • Pop ups don't always work correctly

I am having problems with pop ups on some sites. I do not have pop ups blocked and I do have javascript enabled. I am using Firefox 6.0.2 on Windows XP 32-bit (I first noticed the problem with an older version of Firefox but upgrading didn't help).
To see an example of the problem, visit one of the StackExchange sites eg Stackoverflow.com (you might need to create an account or log in with Open ID). If you click on a question you should see some options underneath the question text:
    link|edit|close|flag
(You may not see edit or close if you are a new user as I think these require some "reputation" to be enabled).
Clicking on "close" or "flag" is supposed to pop up a dialog asking for the close / flag reason to be selected from radio buttons. This works fine for me in Chrome or if I start Firefox in Safe Mode, but not if I start Firefox normally (even if I disable all plug ins and extensions manually).
I asked about this on Meta Stack Overflow (my question is here: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/106405/close-link-doesnt-work-for-me ) but they were unable to help beyond "it's probably one of your browser settings". I've looked through all the settings under Tools -> Options and can't see anything odd.
I actually have a similar issue on an internal work web server which displays pop ups OK but they have no text in them. I can't point you at this as it's inside our firewall but I am hopeful that the resolution to the first issue will also resolve the second :-)

I have now solved this issue.
    I had a "userContent.css" file in %APP_DATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\y06a2da6.default\chrome\userContent.css
which contained some pop up blocking code for iframes incorporating various strings such as "/ad", "/banner", "/splash" etc.
It looks as though the "close" dialog on StackOverflow was somehow getting caught in this. I've removed the userContent.css file and it now all works fine.

  • Firefox is preventing photographs/pictures from appearing because it considers them as "pop-ups". How can I overrule the pop ups ban?

Firefox is preventing photographs and pictures from being displayed because it considers them to be pop-ups. I have turned off the pop-ups blocker on my security system but this did not help. There is a difference between annoying commercial or informational pop-ups and photographs and pictures that appear automatically from many web sites. How can I overrule this unwanted pop-up blocking effect?

It is possible that you run into this maximum (the default value is 20):
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/dom.popup_maximum
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

My college wifi opens a pop-up in the login process, which my ipad is not allowing. how can i get to allow pop-ups in login process?

    You may have pop-ups blocked.
Go to Settings>Safari and turn "Block pop-ups" off. You may needs to restart the ipad after turning off this settings if it doesnt work immediately

  • How to allow pop-ups on certain websites

I have pop-ups blocked and want to keep it that way, however I would like to disable the pop-up blocking on certain websites. I know how to do this in IE for Windows, but do not know how to do this in Safari on my MAC.
I assume this can be done. Does anyone know how to do it?

While the Command-Shift-K provided by QuickTimeKirk certainly works to turn the feature on and off.
I'm with G$R, how do I get Safari to remember the list of sites I visit to automatically allow popups?

  • Pop up Blocker iPad4

    Hi
I am using iPad Retina Display where Safari is enabled with Pop ups Block "On". This was working fine and suddenly from yesterday onwards I am seeing unwanted Pop ups. I tried "Off" and "On" in Settings but no use.
These Pop ups are really annoying.
Can anyone please help stopping them.
    Thanks,
    Suresh.

You have an old version of Flash Player that is likely causing this issue.
The best version to get for most users is the latest Flash 10.1 release candidate from [http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html] - choose the "plug-in for Windows".

  • Background pop ups

Help! I keep getting a Google search for ***** sites that pops up behind my Safari page and then several additional ***** sites that pop up individually all behind my Safari page. They show up in my history file as well. I've tried deleting my history and emptying my cache. I have pop ups blocked but they still appear. Can't seem to find a pattern as to when the appear either. I also get Netflix, Geico Insurance and Home Mortgage pop ups but those usually appear when I go to CNN.Money. Most annoying to say the least. Is there any way to stop them?

Is there any way to stop them?
There are two ways to stop them:
    1. Turn off JavaScript and Add-ons in Preferences > Security.
    2. Find the domain and IP address they're being served from and block it in your Hosts file.
