    Good afternoon. For over a week I can't get email on MY DASH.  Can't see mail in my Gmail Viewer.  Get a POP3 error ... can't connect to POP server.  Thought it may be a Gmail interface issue so tried to get Hotmail and then Earthlink email in the Chumby email app.  Both give same message POP3 Error , can't connect to pop3 server.  I have done multiplr hard restarts / power off / "restore to normal operation" procedures.  I have searched the discussions and community and can find no mention of POP server issues.  Please help .... advise.  I'm a disabled, but still working, senior citizen without a fancy, internet, cell phone and my Dash's ability to display my email is very important to me.  I have the Dash at my bedside and My Dash allows me to see a message from a client before I would otherwise rise. Kind regards, Martin

  • Pop3 error....Server responded:

    I have two accounts set up in Thunderbird as I have for several years now. A few days ago I started receiving the message "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server.Mail server mail.btinternet.com responded:" I am still getting the mail from one account and have to get my btinternet emails from btyahoo mail site. I have re-installed thunderbird 3.1.8, checked all the settings and cannot see any changes to the settings. I have checked by way of google with no success, anyone have any clues please?

    This is a serious problem that exactly replicates mine from last weekend, 26 March 2011.
    Having upgraded to Thunderbird 3.1.9, on Win7 Pro, it has corrupted my settings with its"new" auto-setting wizard, after which no amount of uninstalling and reverting (to as old as version 2.1.7) will solve. I have tried deleting the user accounts personal folders and removing every registry entry but with no success.
    I can send an e mail but cannot now receive any in Win7.
    Fortunately, I still run XP with thunderbird and this connects and downloads all my e mails correctly WITH EXACTLY THE SAME SETTINGS as now fails in Win7 every time with the dubious >>An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.btinternet.com responded:<<

    It is ironic that simply entering just your e mail address and password on this website takes you straight into your BT e mails, yet the latest and greatest new Thunderbird (and BT-Yahoo) cannot!!
    The rest of the web tells us our settings are wrong but this is plainly neither correct nor the solution! Anybody with better ideas or the correct remedy?
    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
    I personally use Thunderbird, Windows 7 ultimate and have no problems with email.
    I've never let TB setup the email account, as it normally gets most things wrong - particularly port settings. Check the port in the Server Settings to make sure it's 110, and that the security options as None and Password, transmitted insecurely

  • POP3 error after upgrading to iOS5

    I have a 3GS and just installed the latest upgrade. Since then, I’m getting a user name/password incorrect error when checking a certain POP3 account on my iPhone. The same account is working find on my imac’s mail.app. I deleted the account from my iphone, rebooted it, and selected to add that mail account to the phone from within itunes, sync’d and still I’m getting the same error. I tried manually changing the user name/password, and still nothing. Any ideas?
    Steve

    I changed the password to my account to something a little less annoying than a random 16 char one and now my iphone is checking mail.
    Odd.
    Later I’ll try a new, longer password and see if that causes trouble.

  • POP3 Internet E-Mail / BM

    Hello,
    in my test environment I have a GW 7 SP1 server via static NAT behind a BM
    3.8 server. I want to allow a few users to check their internet POP3 E-Mails
    with the GW-Client. I opened filters for SMTP and I need to add an exception
    for POP3 now. But, do I have to add a POP3 exception for any address or only
    for the GW server (192.168.A.B)?
    Do I also have to add Port 53 for DNS for these workstation or is it only
    nessesary for the GW server?
    Thanks for your answer and suggestions.
    Regards
    Mirko

    Hallo Cat,
    thanks for your answer. I guess I have a major issue here. Maybe you could
    help...
    I made all filter exceptions exactly as you (or Craig's book) suggested, but
    receiving emails from an internet email account still don't work. GW-Client
    ended up with a "Service not available" message and Outlook Express ended up
    with a POP3 error message. I attached a file that shows the general filters
    made by me (for information 192.168.13.14 is the Mailserver) except the
    POP3 filters you suggested.
    Because Outlook Express is not receiving a POP3 email from an internet mail
    account even when ipflt is not loaded, I assume that it can't be a filter
    problem. So I tested some major things: Again, pinging an IP from a
    workstation is not possible (because of proxy, I guess). A nslookup from a
    workstation to an internet address is possible, because of the DNS forward
    from my internal DNS server to my ISP's DNS server (which made by the
    dns/udp-st filter of the attached filter list). So far so good.
    But I have to idea why, even under Outlook with no filters loaded POP3 is
    still not possible... Do you have an idea?

  • IMAP4 isOpen and POP3 ERR

    Hi,
    I was checking the isOpen method of the IMAPFolder and I saw that the method return the opened field whatever happen during the keepConnectionAlive method. Is this an expected behavior since this method may return true even if the server side socket has been closed? For example, a successful connection has been done and the server closes the connection for any reason, the client calls the isOpen method and the noop method throws an exception.
    Another thing, what is the reason behind hiding the POP3 errors? The server can return ERR but the API simply ignore them and return the default value. This is quite unexpected since the IMAP4 does throw exceptions. Sorry if this has already been asked but I could not find the response using the search function.
    One last thing, I've seen several mail bugged which are told to be encoded in ISO-8859-1 but are encoded in Cp1252. I've used the javamail.charset.map to work around those mails but I was wondering if this should be not added by default.
    Thanks,
    Sylvain

    I was checking the isOpen method of the IMAPFolder and I saw that the method return the opened field whatever happen during the keepConnectionAlive method. Is this an expected behavior since this method may return true even if the server side socket has been closed? For example, a successful connection has been done and the server closes the connection for any reason, the client calls the isOpen method and the noop method throws an exception.The callback method that processes the response from the server will clear the open flag if the connection fails.
    Another thing, what is the reason behind hiding the POP3 errors? The server can return ERR but the API simply ignore them and return the default value. This is quite unexpected since the IMAP4 does throw exceptions. Sorry if this has already been asked but I could not find the response using the search function.Most of the POP3 commands are so simple that they don't typically return ERR. If the server is working properly
    it will return the correct result to a valid command. Still, there's at least one place where an error should be
    reflected to the caller, and I'll fix that. In what specific cases are you seeing ERR returned?
    One last thing, I've seen several mail bugged which are told to be encoded in ISO-8859-1 but are encoded in Cp1252. I've used the javamail.charset.map to work around those mails but I was wondering if this should be not added by default.javamail.charset was created to work around the fact that old versions of the JDK didn't know all the standard
    MIME charset names. "cp1252" doesn't seem to be a standard [MIME charset|http://www.iana.org/assignments/character-sets] name. If the message lists the
    charset as "cp1252", use the technique in the [JavaMail FAQ|http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/FAQ.html#unsupen] to handle it. If the message lists the charset as
    iso-8859-1 but really is encoded in cp1252 format (whatever that is), please report that bug to the owner of the
    program that created the message. How you detect and handle incorrectly encoded data is up to you.

  • Can't send pictures in e-mails.

    I am having trouble sending pictures in e-mails.  I keep getting a POP3 error.  Is this a server problem, computer setting, or a printer problem?

    Hello CottonBlossum,
    More than likely it's an email system error and not an error with the printer. If you can provide me with the following information then I will be much more able to assist you.
    1. What device are you sending email from?
    2. What is the exact error message?
    3. What email provider are you using (ISP email, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.)
    The exact error message will probably be the most helpful in determining what the issue is.
    Thanks,
    Brent

  • Factory reset, now mail wont work(app store too)

    i factory reset my 3gs cause it was running slow and wifi wasnt working properly, and yes i was p*ed off and didnt back it up lol, but now when i goto set mail up with hotmail account, it says i need hotmail plus or something and it always pops up saying "failed to connect to POP3.live.com" what shall i do? its important i have mail working.
    and when i open app store, it says loading, then it says cant connect to app store, i came here cause i cant find how to ask apple direct cause its soo complicated

    before i reset it, i had 2 sim cards, 1 that came with the phone with the internet on, and another which is my main simcard. but to get the wifi working, i had to put my simcard with internet in, set it up to run on 3G, then the wifi would kick in then i could swap simcards over and it would wor, but when the screen turns off n when you unlock it, it stops working again, and when i repeat the process it works, till the screen turns off then it stops working.
    but the wifi is sorted now since i factory reset it and the app store is loading now soo thats sorted, and i dont get the POP3 error when i open mail anymore, BUT it shows the little loading circle at the top, and says its checking for mail at the bottom, but it doesnt deliver any mail at all, so ive had to spend £6 on mbox mail cause i need email

  • Sending Mail Via Apache James

    HI all,
    I am new to both Java and Apache James. Please help me. I just installed Apache James 1.2.1. It seems to work fine. Because I can use MS Outlook express and send mail and receive it(I set up couple users and mail from one address to other). The host is localhost(I am connected to internet). But when i try to send mail say for example to hotmail domain or yahoo domain, I dont
    see mail being delivered. But MS outlook express does not show any error when I do send/receive either.
    Could somebody explain me if I am missing any config on Apache James that is not delivering the mail.

    Hi everyone,
    Currently, I am working on a project which requires email facilities.... I have chosen JAMES mail server....
    But I have some difficulty to make it work properly.... Hence, Is it possible to send me a working sample of the config.xml.... Course I have problems in configuration....
    So far...I have run the server and added a few users.... I test it out with the mailclient.java, but I get authenticate errors and pop3 error....
    Thanks for all your time.....

  • Error in reading the mails from POP3 server

    Hi,
    I am reading mails from the POP3 server using UTL_TCP package. I am able to retrieve .txt & .doc attachments successfully.
    I am facing an error when I try to retrieve an attachment with a very long name (irrespective of the file type). Also, I am unable to retrieve .docx, .xls, .xlsx file types. I noticed similarity in the reasons for the error I am getting. I realized that if I try to retrieve an attachment with a very long file name or any of the above mentioned file formats (.docx, .xls, etc.), the "name" attribute of the attachment goes to the next line and hence I am going wrong somewhere in parsing that line.(The complete line comprises of : Content-Type: application/vnd.openxmlformatsofficedocument.wordprocessingml.document; name="test_attachment.docx")
    I realized this pattern by doing executing Telnet commands to retrieve emails from POP3 server.
    I am trying to parse the line I am talking about in the following manner:
    IF line LIKE 'Content-Type: %;'
                   THEN
                        IF line LIKE 'Content-Type: %; name=%'
                        THEN
                             PIPE ROW (line);
                        ELSE
    -- This should only print the "Content-Type". But I get an error (pasted below) at this point
                             PIPE ROW (line);
    -- To read the "name" attribute which comes on the next line. But this line never gets executed since I get an error in the previous statement
                             BYTES := UTL_TCP.available (socket);
                             BYTES := UTL_TCP.read_line (socket, line);
                             PIPE ROW (line);
                        END IF;
    The error I get is :
    ERROR:
    ORA-29261: bad argument
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_ENCODE", line 29

    Hi,
    Try to manually download the file from application server using standard transactions, and than check how many records are you able to download from app. server.
    I guess there might be something wrong with the format of 583rd record, which makes sap assume that the file has come to an end.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Anyone know why since May 18th I get this when checking my POP3 mail from Mail? 'The server returned the error: The attempt to send data to the server "(null)" failed.' Looked at all the debates on here, nothing works. APPLE?!

    <rant>I have seen many people complaining about this. I've seen lots of suggestions; change your POP3 SSL number, twist your knee backwards whilst standing on just your little finger. Nothing works. I'd like to not have to migrate to a new Mail software.
    </rant>
    I thank you.

    MY SOLUTION REPOSTED FROM ANOTHER THREAD:
    I've just solved a similar issue.
    I have a dedicated server running Plesk 9.5 and when I upgraded to iLife 11 and Snow Leopard this error appeared. I could quickly click "get mail" and I'd get all my mail, but only 3-4 of my 9 mail accounts would connect. Theo others would have the error:
    "The server error encountered was: The attempt to read data from the server..."
    I found solutions for those using IMAP mail:
    modify the /etc/courier-imap/imapd configuration file and change MAXDAEMONS from 40 to 80 and MAXPERIP from 4 to 40. This allows all the machines behind my home firewall to connect to multiple accounts on the e-mail server with mailbox caching enabled.
    I'd made this change on my server but it didn't seem to have any effect. It dawned on me that I'm using POP, not IMAP. So I found in /etc/courier-imap/pop3d the same settings. I changed the MAXDAEMONS from 40 to 80 and MAXPERIP from 4 to 40 and voila, all my connections concurrently worked.
    This has taken me more than two days to fix and I hope posting this helps someone else with the same issue.

    We are using SunOne Messaging Server v5.2 on Solaris 9
    We followed the below steps:
    1. Create a trust database password for "Internal (Software) Token"
    2. Obtain a certificate
    3. Install the certificate along with CA certificate.
    4. The certificate is installed with the name "Server_Cert" and is shown as trusted in the "Certificate Management"
