Popping / clicking sound when using headphones

I just got a new iMac and I've noticed when using headphones I get this popping or clicking noise at cerain times. If the computer doesn't produce sound for a while, it's like the audio driver "shuts down" and the headphones go very quiet, then when the computer has to make a sound, it makes a "pop" noise before it loads the new sound (regardless of the file or program used). Then I'll leave it for a minute or so, and it "pops" and the headphones go very silent (there was a slight static noise before). I don't get this happening when running the headphones through a USB audio card. Is this normal behaviour for Mac OS?

Looks like this is a software issue (in part at least). By installing this simple script:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/29024/antipop
you can keep it from happening (more than once). The script keeps the audio system from shutting down, so you only get a pop on startup and that's it. I still don't know if this popping is normal behaviour or points to some faulty hardware.

  • Pop/clicking sound when in 5.1 mode under Vista 32bit using the latest 2_18_0004 drive

I'm using S750 speaker system, very noticeable!!!!
I tried 7. mode, still pop/clicking sound!!!!! But no in stereo mode!!!!
It's long time for users that reported this issue, after Creative Labs released so many driver versions, this issue still not been
    corrected, it's really SHAME!!!!!
Hope this get worked out in next release!!!!!!
Hope this will never be heard in X-Fi 2 !!!!!!

X-FI 2 is the same failure as X-FI IN drivers hardware xfi is great, so if you buy the new x-fi2 there will be the same crappy drivers as you use now.
Anyway, Please post spec, Because this is a hard problem to solve many things can make the Sound to crackle.
PSU = To low Watts for a system can make the soundcard crackle,
=2, sharing power with other devices like hard drivers floppy drivers etc.
= Not goot psu enough, bad quality psu can make this beli've me i had the same problem
= Quality cables to the soundcard, use a different rail if that is possible.
Bios = check for bios updates. even if there is none information about creative, sometimes it can help BUT READ INSTRUCTIONS on how to do it and what the stakes are if you do it wrong, and read the forums about the new bios, not allways new bios is good. IF you are a Asus user you should know why.
GFX = Place the soundcard (PCI) away from the grphics card, if you got ex 4pci slots and gfx pci express use the last slot for soundcard, if that dosnt work try 3,2, etc. but futher away from the graphics card should prevent EMI
X-FI= check the power slot in soundcard check for bendings etc.
I had this issue fixed it with new psu, had no idea first but after my ASPIRE TRIO 520w cought fire and i changed it to Antec 620w it allmost dissapeard, then i checked the power slot in X-FI and it was bent outwards, after carefully bending it back the crackle dissapread.
Now im using Cooler Master Real Power 850emba and using a different rail for the soundcard.
Hope you solve it, best regards Commander

  • Pop / Click Sound when mic plugged into iPad

Is anyone else having an issue with a faint 'pop' heard when using a mic to record audio into the ipad through the headphone jack?
I've tried using the iPhone earbuds w/ built-in mic and 3 different iRig Mics at the local music store - each time, the same result.
When I am using any audio recording program that accepts the mic input (Garageband, free iRig recorder, Vocalive, etc.) I hear a faint 'pop' every 20 seconds or so. It is pretty quiet compared to the audio input, but is loud enough to be heard when trying to record good quality audio.
At first I thought it was an issue with the iRig Mic but after testing with the iPhone earbuds/mic, it appears that the issue pops up whenever there is an input device plugged into the headphone jack.
Can anyone confirm or provide a suggestion for how to remedy this problem?
    Cheers. Dale

    Anyone?
I've confirmed a slight regular 'pop' or 'click' on my iPad2 every 20 secs or so whenever an input is used in the headphone jack. Can hear it when turned up high. Shouldnt be a processing power issue because I can replicate even in the simplest of recording programs without an additional processing.
Confirmed with iPhone earbuds w/ mic, with ampkit guitar interface and irig imic (x3 different ones at the store).
Frustrated because this negates using my ipad for recording purposes

  • Z10 Clicking sound when using earpiece

    HELP
I bought my Z10 June 11, 2013. Using my earpiece for the first time today (June 18, 2013), I noticed that there is a clicking sound. I also notice that when I try to play a music it stops and go but when I take out the earpiece the music plays smoothly. It also notice that when I am out of the music section, it goes in and out of voice recognition. I am looking forward for  some assistance as I have been waiting so long for this phone and now this disappointment. When i go to main volume it keeps on adjusting by itself and making a ringing sound.

  • Clicking sound when using keyboard

    A strange and trivial question...
Since upgrading to 3.1.1, the clicking sound that the Touch makes when using keyboard is only at a really low volume. Is this normal?

  • Satellite U400-11U - no sound when using headphone

    Hi everybody .
i has get a Toshiba Satellite U400 (u400-11u) with Vista installed and at the first use all work nice and i have never tried the headphone, but after sometimes, when I put on the connecteur on the jack of headphone there is no sound, only when I put off the connecteur out of jack, the speaker work.
I has learn that I must update my BIOS and I doing it : no solution, there is no sound, so I have change to XP SP3 the some problem and now I'm with Windows 7 with the some problem.
So if you have any information about this problem, please give'it to me !!
I have tried all solution in FAQ, but no way !!
PS : sorry for language mistakes !!

Unfortunately I cannot offer you 100% working solution because I don't have exact the same notebook model but what I can say is that I think BIOS has nothing to with this issue.
It is very interesting that you have tested it with different operating systems and different headphones but the situation is always the same. What can be the problem?
At the end I believe this port is somehow defective. I have three different laptops here on the desk and hear internet radio almost all day. When I use my headset with all three laptops the reaction is always the same. Internal speakers will be disabled and I can hear music on my headset.
Maybe you should contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help. Let them check the port.
One more thing: when you start notebook for the first time (factory settings) everything must works properly. If you have noticed this issue from that moment I really think there is a hardware problem.

  • Weird popping/screeching sounds when using alche

I am using an audigy 4 with alchemy audigy edition latest version. And no matter what game I set it up for I always get this random popping and screeching noises. Few games I've tried are Oblivion, Battle for Middle Earth 2, city of heroes. It almost sounds like hard dri've access. But that would be really strange because it only happens if I enable alchemy. Just wonder if anyone else has had this issue, its driving me up the wall. I've tried all sets of drivers the ones posted in this forum and official and none of them make a difference.

i saw on another forum that installing beta drivers for nvidia cards may work. i switched back to XP and still have issues... it appears to be a conflict with nvidia and creative when it comes to games. go figure!

  • Has anyone else had a problem with no sound when using headphones?

Since I got my iPad mini last Christmas I've been to the store 3 times with the same problem. When I plug my headphones in there's no sound. The speakers work but not the headphones. It seems to be a chronic issue. Anyone else experience this?

i Don't actually mean when you put it In the phone. I mean when you try to take the slot out of the phone with the pin. As soon as I pulled it out it bent.
That makes less sense as the sim tray a fairly stiff metal and should be pulled straight out once released. You didn't answer the question about where is was bought. Is is a real iPhone?

  • Small clicking sound when using scissor tool on apple loop?

    Howdy All,
I've snipped an apple loop right on the beat essentially cutting the beat in half and there is a small click sliding off the sample. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Thought i saw a thread on this somewhere but can't find it.

I believe that the safest option would be to go to the Apple store...
I understand that it is not great to replace the phone again ....restoring from backup takes forever

    Hi all,
Probably a quick question, but I'm fairly new to Macs. I've a Macbook Pro 13 Late 2011 and now I've got an Apple TV, I use AirPlay. But how do I stop system sounds when using AirPlay?

Open AirPort Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
From the AirPort Utility menu bar click AirPort Utility > Preferences
Deselect:   Monitor AirPort base stations for problems

  • Clicking noise when using bluetooth in car.

HI, just purchased a new Buick with bluetooth system, added my Iphone and now when in the car callers hear a clicking sound when in conversation. Did not do when I was using the phone in older car. Any suggestions?, thx Steve

Keeping the iPhone on charger all the time doesn't do it any harm - if the battery doesn't need to be charged, the iPhone doesn't charge it. Some argue that car electrical systems aren't as clean as home electrical systems are and that it is dangerous to use a car charger on electronic devices. That may be true several iPods and cars later I see no evidence of that - I've always replaced iPods for improved specs not because they stopped working.

  • Click sound when opening/closing cover

I've had the ipad 2 and Apple cover for 2 months.  When I first got it, there was a click sound when opening or closing the cover.  There is no sound anymore when opening/closing.  Did I change a setting somehow which caused this?

On the new iPad, the switch next to the volume rocker has two functions, depending on how you have it set in 'Settings.'  There's a section in General called Use Side Switch to:.  You can either use it to Lock Rotation or Mute.  When it is set to Lock Rotation and the switch is pushed to the left, yes, the rotation is locked, but when it is set to Mute, and the switch is pushed to the left, all sounds are muted, including the sound for when closing the cover.

  • Front of iPhone4 makes clicking sound when I press it? Can it be fixed?

The screen of my iPhone 4 has started making a clicking sound when I press on the front during normal use. Can this be fixed easily?

Since you are still in the warranty period, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have it checked.  The clicks are not loud, but should be audible.
    Ciao.

  • Ipod makes clicking sound when turning on and tells me to go to supposrt

My older Ipod makes a clicking sound when I turn it on and tells me to go to the support website. Any ideas what the problem is? I don't know what generation it is or what ISO what ever that is, I use. It was bought for my son many years ago and he has moved on to the newer ones, lol. I do know it is bulkly and heavy,

It probably needs service as it's indicative of a hard drive problem.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
