Popping/ crackling filter to make film sound like 20s film

Is there a built in filter in FCPro HD that will allow the audio to have the old sounding "pops and crackles" that you hear in older movies.
Also, is there a video filter that will give me the effect of lines and artficats in the film itself that you see like when you go to an old movie theatre and little black shapes appear on the screen from time to time.
THanx!

If you export to a QuickTime Movie, there's some filters you can apply during that process ... like hair, scratch and dust (I think) ... and they're included free in QTPro.
Other than that, the best film effects package I've seen and used is from www.nattress.com
As for the sound, I've heard pops and crackling on old LP recordings, but not on old films. Perhaps you could sample some of the scratch and pop noises from an old album and build your own 'noise' track.

  • Make them sound like a megaphone

I am trying to figure out the best way to make VO sound like it is coming through a megaphone, any tips?  Audition 3.01.
    Thanks!

Here are some general tips that should get you in the right direction:
use the FFT filter to create a tight filtered spectrum. You want to kill everything above 3 or 4 khz and everything below say 500hz. Megaphones have horrible frequency response.
dynamic compression. a megaphone's horn has no real dynamics to speak off...using dynamic compression will help to simulate this better
distortion: a megaphone adds a slight bit of distortion...you may be able to mimic this with enough compression..
mostly the biggies are the stuff you do in FFT and dynamic compression.
you can add echo if you want.

  • A tiny little cry for help: mic in bootcamp makes me sound like a mouse!

I posted this on the InsanelyMac forum, and I thought I'd post it here too because I'm just that desperate for help... thanks in advance for reading.
I run a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. When Snow Leopard came out I installed it and partitioned my drive to allow me to run Windows via bootcamp for the purpose of playing Aion with my husband.
The game works fine, although it only works correctly when I'm hooked to my large Dell monitor. The built-in display makes the mouse/cursor not function correctly in-game.
But that's relatively minor... the biggest problem is that the built-in mic, as well as any mic I plug into the Line In, makes me sound like a mouse when I speak. I SO don't want to be known as the squeaky mouse over ventrilo. (The problem occurs in a regular sound recorder too, so it is NOT ventrilo specific).
The audio device is listed as Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID 0x83847680, Audio ID 30 - whatever that means.
When I dive into the Control Panel audio preferences when booted into Windows, the driver is listed as IDT audio.
Audio output seems to function perfectly.
I would sure appreciate help if anyone has expertise or experience with this sort of thing. I'm at a little bit of a loss.
    TIA,
    Jen

Hey, I had a thought, I don't know if it'll work and won't get the chance to find out until later tonight if I'm not too tired or until later tomorrow.
I think that if the IDT drivers aren't installed in the first place, perhaps the issue can be averted entirely. However, it's going to take a bit of knowledge to do and some patience. The partition will need to be remade entirely so that one may end up with a fresh operating system. When the SL disk is put into the computer, instead of running the full driver setup, pick the drivers directly off the disk by exploring its folders and only install the ones you need. Instead of using the IDT drivers, I believe the SL disk also has Realtek HD audio drivers (if I remember correctly from the last time I looked). My thought is that this manual method can prevent having to deal with the IDT drivers which I believe are part of the issue.
I understand that reinstalling XP is a process in itself, but this is the only solution I can think of. If manually installing doesnt work, my next move would be to use the drivers that come off the Leopard disk instead of the SL disk.
Like I said, this is just a thought I have so when I get to it later I'll let you know how it goes unless you decide to give it a try before me.

  • Sounds like a film projector

We recently started hearing a sound like a film projector eminating from one of our dual G5s. I have removed or stopped every fan that I can see (6 total, I believe: 2 in front for the CPU, 1 above it attached to the speaker, 1 behind the DVD drive, and 2 in back). I even disconnected the hard drive and the sound persists. There is not a disc in the DVD drive and the sound continues whether the DVD drive is opened or closed. It sounds as if it's coming from low inside the case, but it's hard to pinpoint.
I have not yet checked to see if there is something loose somewhere simply vibrating, but it doesn't really sound like that. It sounds just like a film projector.
    Any thoughts?
    Dual G5 2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Well - there are a total of nine fans in the DP2 - one more at 90deg. to the others behind the hard drives and two at the front of the power supply, low down behind the silver perforated grille, running at a constant speed. If you shine a torch in the front of the grille you can see them. If the sound is regular and unchanging it may be one of these.

  • Cartridge holder makes a sound like a machine gun when it moves to the right just before printing

Product is HP Deskjet 4440 all in one.  OS is Windows XP.
When the cartridge holder goes clear to the right just before printing it makes a loud noise like a machine gun just before it starts printing.  It prints fine.  But sounds like the cartridge holder is sticking and makes this machine gun like sound.

    Hi @gramdeb,
I see by your post that the carriage makes a loud noise when it moves to the right, but you can still print. I can help you with this.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Remove and reinsert the cartridges, to make sure that they are correctly installed in the unit.
I have provided this document for different areas of the printer to check for any obstructions or broken parts in the carriage path. 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Computer. Disregard the title.
Did you just change out any of the cartridges?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Software that makes textedit sound like typewriter

i am looking for a software that will make my MBP keyboard sound like a typewriter when I write text.
I have found several programs that will do that, but it will do that on everything I type on my computer, emails,
forms, etc. I only want to write text and have the keyboard sound like a typewriter.
Anyone know of a program like that? I also found OmmWriter but I don't care for the music and other sounds.

  • Computer makes weird sound - like guitar strings

So I have an iBook G4 (which I love) and its been about 7 months now. The other day it started to make this noise (which it only does when the volume is on). I checked the sounds in system preferences and none of them sound like this, and it does it even when no programs are running. The computer makes this sound of someone plucking a guitar string. Two of them, like "pluck" "pluck" and it does it all the time, even if I'm listening to a song on iTunes. Anyone have any advice? I've tried shutting down my computer and it still does it. Thanks!

Same problem, man. I would try everything, but it will perist. Try opening up the system and check for cracks in the motherboard or open spaces between the parts. It is hard to  solve such problem for me.

  • Make guitar sound like bass!?

    Yo,
I need bass on my songs, but I don't have one!
Is there any cool effect I can use that could make my guitar sound like bass?
    Thanks
    James

I gave that guy the same pitch for a bass, but he was not inclined to spend the few bucks to get one, so he tried the vocal transformer, and said it worked great. I never tried it myself, but it could be a cool effect for some subsonic string bending

  • Filter to make voice sound more "warm"

Looking for the best settings within garageband's filters to make my recorded voice sound a little more full and warm. Im using an Audio Technica AT2020 mic and honestly it sounds really full of treble of cold. Any thoughts?

The Apple Audio Units include a graphic equalizer: you could boost the lower frequencies - not the very lowest, but starting around 100Hz. Don't just boost one frequency, make a smooth cirve from the sliders: bring it back to normal by 1kHz and you might want to roll it down above 3kHz.

  • How to fix streaming audio pops/crackles and then stops all sound

I am a google Chrome user.  I am unsure if this problem is related to Chrome or to Flash by I suspect there is a problem with both.  I previously had this problem where when you start a youtube video for example the audio would pop/crack and then the audio would go dead.  If you were able to put the video on full screen before this happened it would work fine.  This really only happens with windowed (non-fullscreen videos).  Previously I went in to my chrome plugins and disabled chrome's native flash and that fixed the issue.  With the most recent update to Chrome this has happened again.  This time disabling chrome's flash does not work.  On the adobe version site it says that for chrome the version should be 11.5.31.137 but it shows me as using 11.5.502.146.  The latter would be the version for firefox.  I do not use firefox.  Could this be causing my trouble?  I have used the official flash uninstaller and restarted my computer and reinstalled but the same thing happened.  Thanks.

Thanks for the link.  I have tried what they recommend.  I currently have two flash files.  I have disabled the chrome one and the one that is enabled is C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_5_502_146.dll
However, I ran the chrome://flash and this is what I got:

i got an ipad mini for christmas, charged fully. was using it..and it was fine.. went to turn it back on to use again and it's a blank screen. went to plug in and nothing seems to show it's charging or anything. why can this happen??

Try resetting it.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds.  Hopefully you will see the Apple logo.
If it's a brand new iPad Mini (with retina display), it is under warranty.  You can always take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center for service.
