Popping noises and freezing up.

I have a MacBook with Mac OS X (10.4.11). I keeping hearing these popping noises from my computer and my screen (when watching a movie on iTunes) freezes up for a couple of seconds. Even when I am not watching a movie my computer pops. I've searched the support pages and the only thing I could find was an audio update for Mac OS X (10.4.10) which does not work for my computer. Can anyone help me?

Finally, somebody else with this problem. I too have 10.4.11 on 3 macs, my MB, my iMac and my work MB. Randoms pops all the time and nothing consistent, just lierally as and when. I actually rang apple about this and they said they couldn't help and the mac needed service, my a**.
I find it hard to believe i can get this from 3 machines. I've had my iMac for 10 months and Macbook for 5 months before this started. I can't work out what the **** it is, i thought it was quicktime so i rolled back to 10.4.9 with QT 7.1.6 and nothing changed. My only other conclusion would be a firmware update because thats something that cannot be reversed.

Either the license files were not transferred or it has to be relicensed.
Remove and then re-install aperture. On an rMBP this should take only a couple of minutes.

Weird Noises and Freezing

I spilled water on the keyboard of my Macbook this afternoon, but was able to get it off almost immediately. The computer was working fine and is, to an extent, although every few minutes, it makes a clicking noise, similar to the one that occurs when you press the 'power button'. Additionally, after this noise, the "loading" icon pops up and everything freezes for a moment or two. I'm worried I may have damaged something, or maybe its just screwed up. Anyone have this happen before?

Clicking noise and freezing during updating

Hello everyone, if anyone could help with the following problem i'd be more than grateful. my ipod recently wouldnt connect to windows and started making a clicking noise. to try an resolve this i have reset and restored. I thought this would solve the problem. However, when ipod is updating it seems to freeze, stop updating and clicking noise starts. the following message appears
the specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired.
the only way i can disconnect is to shut the computer down. My playlists appear but with no songs.
this is my 2nd ipod (clicking noise also happened so ipod was replaced in warranty) which is now out of warranty. I think my hard drive might be giving up? These discussions are my last hope! Do I buy a new ipod (possibly for the same thing to happen)? or is it worth getting it serviced? Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Even i have a Ipod with a click wheel and is behaving similarly.
Once i connect it to the PC (using USB) it shows the "Do Not Disconnect" sign forever and even iTunes does not recognize it, the hard disk is making some clicking noise and after some time windows returns timeout error "The specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired" !!
I think we are in the same boat, What do we do ???

Hard drive noise and freezing

I got my new MacBookPro yesterday - OK it's a refurb! Turned it on and went through the setup stuff, which I thought took a huge amount of time give the speed of the thing. Got on the net and went to download firefox. It started fine and then I heard a noise like a clock ticking and the download stopped. The noise probably went on for 20 seconds and then stopped and the download started again for about 20 second and the noise started again. This time I got the "beach ball of doom" and that was it, everything stopped and all I could do was power of and start again. Started up and got exactly the same thing, when ever I tried to down load anything. Everything seems to works fine and all the apps appear to run until I write anything to the hard drive and then I get the noise and then everything just freezes and I have to kill the power. The noise is comming from the front to the left of the trackpad and I'm assuming that the hard drive is in there - if I put my ear on the case it sound like a drive spinning up and then just stopping. Any suggestion or do I have a jiggered hard drive? Thanks

I have had the same problem with my refurb. It kept freezing on me and not booting. The problem only got worse over time and it finally went back to Apple for repair on 7-14-06, however, good luck getting a repair. They confirmed it was a bad hard drive, but have been waiting for parts ever since. Hmmm... bad batch of drives? I called today and they said they would call me back tomorrow with an update. Loud POP noise and burning smell from G5

I was on my G5 working when all of a sudden I heard this loud POP noise (like a firecracker) and the computer shut off. I could smell something got burnt but not sure what. I started the computer back up and everything seems to be working fine. Is there any way to test to see if any damage was done? I've ran techtool's and everything passes. Does anybody have an idea of what it could have been?

It sounds like a capacitor in your power supply blew. It is possible that for it continue to function if the capacitor opened. I would not trust the G5 after that experience. I would suggest backing up everything with a clone and bringing it in for service.

Whenever I press spacebar to playback my video project in final cut pro X, the color wheel pops up and freezes the computer. Doesn't matter what computer I use. Why and how do I fix this?

Like I said, I'm doing a simple video and have finally made some progress in editing. All of a sudden, when I try to replay the video the color wheel pops up and nothing works. It just keeps spinning and spinning with no end. I end up having to force quit the program. When I restart it the same thing happens. I've tried it on 3 different computers and the results have been the same. I've read that perhaps the software needs to be updated through the mac store, I did that to no avail. I also read that perhaps the preferences for the project/final cut pro need to be reset. I downloaded a program that is supposed to do this for me but it didn't work I also went into Preferences in Final Cut and hit reset under editing tab which also did not work. I"m really frustrated about this and I"m getting paid for this video. This needs to be resolved ASAP. Thanks in advance for the help: ask any questions.

Mysterious popping noises and dropouts

I have a very new iMac with 8 GB of memory so I doubt system performance is a part of my troubles, but Logic 9.1.1 keeps giving me trouble on a project I'm working on. In a few places on the song, the audio on a couple tracks drops out for a few milliseconds and then back in. This isn't due to compression or limiting or anything and I have attempted raising the buffer size, turning on/off low latency mode, and nothing seems to matter. There is now also a quiet pop that occurs in just two places in a long trumpet accompanying part.
Needless to say this is incredibly frustrating. Oh, also, this happens on headphones and on studio monitors.
Any ideas?

Apple pop-up keeps popping up and freezing my apps.

Pop up keeps saying I need to log on to iTunes to receive notifications but I already am. Keeps doing it over and over again and won't let me do anything.

If necessary...
Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iPad device settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

IPhone 5C made popping noise and cracked

have a iPhone 5C , I was on my phone and I heard/felt a pop and then it just cracked! I didn't even drop it! Should I take it to Apple or to a Verizon Store?!

Noises and Freezing?!

I seem to be getting a clicking noise followed by a sound of a fan when I turn on my computer. Seems to happen for the first 10 mins my mac is on and then stops and it runs fine. Any help? Thanks

....yet another problem. Three loud beeps and then loud fan noises. then the white light on the lower bit of the mac flashes and the screen is off. I am getting annoyed with apple now. My ipod and g5 breaking at exactly the same time

X marks is blocking me from using firefox as soon as i open it up X marks pops up and freezes everything

I click on Firefox to open the browser then X Marks pops up on the screen tells me it is lading then it shrinks to a bar . I can't close it nor can I click anywhere on my screen with out my computer going bonk bonk and not doing anything i click on. How do I fix this I have gone into my program list to delete X marks but i can't find it. please help me so i can use my Firefox

Are you using the Xmarks addon for Firefox? [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xmarks-sync/ ]? I would suggest trying to download it again, and hopefully that will help sort out the problem.

I've got the same problem! I'm very upset, because It's been only a week since I got my MBP, my first mac.
It happened after I had installed Flash and Adobe's creative suite cs2. I've used Flash for one day, normally. Then, the next time I turned it on, it took 20 minutes for the menu to appear and the icons on my desktop! I couldn't use any of my applications any more after that due to some error, and the problem remains. I've re-installed OS X, throwed away all of the applications that didn't come with the computer, and it still takes a while, like 5 minutes, to appear anything on the desktop. That is, WHEN it appears, because sometimes nothing appears on my desktop at all. I have to open my docs through the Finder window.
another thing, when trying to transfer files from my ipod nano to the mbp, I had a hard time to, when the files were larger than 100megas, the transfer just froze.
I really don't know what to do...

Macbook Pro - Late 2008 - Hard-drive Noise and Freezing

I bought my Macbook Pro in the latter part of 2008 and I haven't had any problems with it until a week ago when I started hearing what I believe to be the hard drive (the lower right portion just to the right of the track pad). During this time, I could still move the cursor around but I could not click on anything and all applications opened froze. This would occur every couple of hours or so, after which I would have to restart my Macbook Pro. Does anyone know what could be the problem and how I can go about solving this? Thanks!!!

Lately there have been quite a few debates on the hard replacement issues with MBP's and from what I have seen they mostly are around the power consumption of the drives being not compatible..

I hear a soft POP noise and iMac dies - help?

This occurs seemingly randomly but I think is more frequent when fan turns on.
The iMac can restart immediately and run fine or it happens several times in a row (usually I stop using it for a while).
I know that I need to take it in - but any ideas?
