Popping sounds at end of clips

Hey
I'm using Audition CS6 (windows) and I'm getting these click/pop sounds at the end of clips in multitrack. If I open the individual clips up to edit and play it through there isn't any sign of it. However if I play the clip through in edit mode and stop it near the point where the pop is I will hear the pop when I hit stop. The irritating thing is if I do a mix down these little errors are still there and they are pretty loud!
Any idea what could cause this? I'm using windows 7 and Cs6.

Without seeing the waveforms and/or hearing what you've got this is a complete shot in the dark -- and probably unlikely since it sounds like this is happening to multiple files and not just one but:
1) Does the audio in your clips end with the waveform much above or below 0 amplitude? (You need to zoom in extra close to see if this is the case) If your wave stops too far above or below the line, and then suddenly drops to 0 as it's playing through in a mix it can cause clicks.
2) Do you have the gain boosted on these clips anywhere in the multitrack mix window? If so, maybe you've got a click in the wavefore that's not too noticeble when playing in the edit window, but boosting the gain in the multitrack makes it more noticeble.

  • Loud noisy pop sound at end, why?

every time i burn a cd i get a loud static like popping crack sound at the end of the cd. the rest of the cd is fine.
any help on how to stop it?

I get exactly the same thing. I think the CD ROM is not finalising properly, because I think the CD drawer should spit out the CD at the end, and it never does. I did diagnostics, but not sure what all the bunkum means. It would be helpful if the diagnostics applet actually solved the problem! I have already checked that my CD/DVDdrive is using the latest firmware, and it is. I am going to try a different brand of disk (I've been using JVC CD-R Music Audio ones and will switch to Imation ones) and if that doesn't help, I will find the article for removing all traces of iTunes and start again. That might help.
Incidentally, I've never had this problem with other programs like Nero (which can't burn protected downloads) but I've had issues (on other PCs) when iTunes and Windows Media Player have been open at the same time. They do conflict with one another and the only solution is to reload CD ROM firmware. But that's not the issue here, I'm sure, as I've done that.
On a different note, isn't it frustrating trying to get in touch with Apple tech Help?!!! Would someone provide their email address or phone number? They have the world's number 1 selling MP3 player, yet it is darn nigh impossible to get a quick solution to problems. I think their support people should at least patrol this forum and give definitive answers to problems. CD burning in Windows seems to be riddled with gremlins and it would be nice if Apple tackled the issue!

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

What audio output are you using? What mac and version iMovie

  • Lost sound in some film clips when finishing project.  Using iMovie 11, after adding music to photo section, could not get sound back in 2 film clips at end of movie.  Beginning clips ok. How do I restore sound? Thx.

Everything in your project will be exported when you use the share menu.
If you want to export only half, I suggest that you
    1) Select the project in the Project Library.
    2) Click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT
    3) Give the duplicate a name, like Project A snippet.
    4) Open the duplicate project in the Project editor and delete the segments that you do not need.
    5) Then Share.
You mentioned surrounding a portion of the clip you were editing in Yellow. Once you do this, you should right-click and then select either DELETE SELECTION, TRIM TO SELECTION, or one of the other options available. That is a key tool in editing.
You mentioned MPEG Streamclip. I agree that MPEG Streamclip is a great tool.

  • Speeding up clips, sound carries over past end of clip

I did the speed up of a clip, the sound was sped up as well, but when the video of the clip ended, there remained about 10 more seconds of sound from that clip spilling over. I tried extracting the sound from the whole clip to see if that would remove it, it didn't, it is still there. How can I get rid of that? I cannot mute the track, there is video I want to put in after it. There is nothing to select and delete. Thank you.

That is a great idea. I will try that next time. I stumbled across a solution when I decided to edit the clip and cut off the last few seconds. When I did that, it removed the trailing audio as well. Thank you for the suggestion.

  • Locking Sound Files to Video Clips

    Hello,
This is the problem that I am ecountering. If I'm working on a project and I delete the recorded sound from the video clips and then insert something from itunes but later change the video clips slightly (say by deleting a few seconds here or there) then all my sound files are not in the correct positions any longer.
Is there any way to lock sound files to the video clips so that if I delete something in a video clip later on that the sound file will move with the earlier video clips?
I hope I'm making myself clear. Sorry if I am not.
    Thanks.

Working with locked audio clips can be frustrating. I've noticed for several years that I've used iMovie. It seems if you change the length of the video clip BEFORE a section where you have locked audio clips to the video those "locked" positions do not stay. You will see the yellow pins out of line.
I am finding this helpful in my situation if I need to edit video before a section of locked clips.
    - In timeline view drag the first video clip to the right, (in the section of locked clips) thus creating a black space.
    - Do your editing that you need to before this black space
    - Now when you go back to the section with the locked audio clips. If you have changed the length of the video before this section you will find the yellow pins out of line.
    - However start dragging that first video clip a bit to the left (shortening the black space) and you should see the yellow pins pop back in alignment.
    - If needed select all the video clips in your section (using shift-click on the first clip and shift click on the last clip) and then drag all back into position (removing the black space)
This may be a work around for those trying to edit and keep those locked clips truly in place. Maybe someone has further insight on this.

  • Premerie Pro CC - have sound on timeline, yet when I export file i am missing sound in one tiny clip. Can I be related to working with Merged clips?

    Hello Premerie Pro CC community,
I need help, I am working with merged clips (the video footage shoot with a DSLR and different audio recorders). I have a timeline in premerie with sound all finished. Everything was fine until I when and fine tuned some of the audio, just added key frames to correct and now when I export my sequence I am missing sound in one little clip of the entire mov.
Does it have to do with sound and editing with a merged clip?
I have tried to export in several different settings and still the same result, and when I look at my timeline the sound is all there.
I have until the end of Monday to figure what I have done incorrect
    thanks

In case it is a phase problem, try adding fill left effect to the faulty clip.

  • [Pulseaudio] Pop sound when the first stream starts, auto-suspend?

    Hi,
I've been having a popping sound issues whenever a Pulseaudio sink was opened. At first I thought it had a link with the power saving settings of snd_hda_intel, so I changed those two settings:
    power_save setting = 0
    power_save_controller = N
    Sadly, it doesn't change anything.
I also tried to disable auto-mute in alsamixer. It didn't work.
Then, I tried to investigate on pulseaudio's side, and figured the sinks are disabled when they are idle, so I commented out this statement in /etc/pulse/default.pa:
    ### Automatically suspend sinks/sources that become idle for too long
    #load-module module-suspend-on-idle
However, if I do that, the device will still be suspended when the last stream ends, but won't come back to life except if I select the device again in pavucontrol while a sound stream is running (super weird).
Any leads? I'm a bit desperate...
EDIT: I'm experiencing what's been described here: Red Hat - Bug #520403 - but the solution they proposed does not work for me. I also followed the guide for ALSA Setup on the wiki, and read the section talking about Popping Noises, but nothing works for me, I un-muted the Line-In too. FYI, my audio codec is a Realtek ALC892.
EDIT 2: Noticed it does the same thing when I mute the volume.
    Thanks!
    Gabriel

Right, an array of unsigned integers to be exact. You would have to look at the code, either in your sources or here and here. They may have changed somewhat, but I doubt any drastic changes. First link is to linux 3.14 version. At least I assume it gets passed on directly, if that really is the case, I do not know. Just try it, hardware damage risk is minimal.
Looking at the mask, I think it takes up to 31 samples. So try with 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24. I may be very well wrong about this.
Since I already have 0 and 1 in the 'trial matrix' I'll add 24 only. Adding the combinations with 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 is too much for me
emeres wrote:Why? Modprobe should not care about hyphen or underscore. They should be always converted when parsing. On most keyboard layouts (also on the Polish programmer one) hyphen is one key one keystroke, where underscore is two key one keystroke, therefore more error prone and less efficient.
Wow, I didn't know that! What do you know! Linux being bitchy even about capital letters made me think it would be even more bitchy about '_' vs '-'.

  • Popping sounds in the multitrack in Adobe Audition CC

I've been using Adobe Audition CC for a week now and have been having some problems with it.  Sometimes there would be random pop sounds during the multi-track.  The random pop sounds would sometimes come at certain sections of the multitrack, but I wouldn't hear them later.  I would play the individual audio files and sometimes they weren't there.  Does anyone know what could be wrong?  Do I have to change some settings?  I ran Adobe Audition 3 a few weeks ago on my Windows 8.1 system and never had any problems with popping sounds .  With CC I get pops for some reason.  I have a custom made computer that is supposed to have high performance.  Is there anything I should change in bios mode?  The multitrack that I'm using is around 40 minutes, and is on 11 tracks.  I don't know if that has anything to do with that.
The computer I have is a custom made computer desktop that I custom made for working with music.  It's an i7 and the most powerful computer I have ever owned.  I have serious doubt that it's my computer.  My computer is new and runs fast.  As I said before, I'm running Windows 8.1 and it didn't have any problems with popping sounds when running on Adobe Audition 3 previously.  I think it probably has something to do with bugs in the program itself.  Has anyone experienced these problems?  If so, did you fix them?  Or does Adobe plan to fix them?  I have contacted Adobe once through email and sent a complaint through Adobe Audition's support system and heard from nobody.  So far, Adobe Audition has not sent me any patches or anything.  Adobe Audition CC is insanely expensive. I'm paying around $220 or $240 a year for a program that already has serious flaws.

    Hi there,
(My first post! I signed up/logged in specifically to ask about this problem, which I am also having.)
I am using an old Mackie mixer -> MBox 2 -> iMac. I have used this same basic setup for last few years, and this problem is sudden and new.
It sound like digital clipping/distortion, but is clearly not happening during the peaks of waveform. The input to Mbox is clear thru headphone monitor, I can't hear anything - but when played back, intermittent and audible pops/hits are happening.
My suspicion is that it is from the USB to the Mac; there are three USB inputs on the iMac and since the Mbox is powered via USB, I think the noise is being introduced there. I tried two outta the three ports (guess I should try the third - why did I stop there? Oh right - coffee!) So far I seem to have best luck when no other programs are running, restart the computer before every session, but otherwise I am just crossing my fingers!
I'll check back on this thread, as I need this ghost OUT of my machine! ~ Jim

  • Does your Macbook make Random Popping Sounds?

Hi all, does your Macbook make random popping sounds, on startup and periodically when your using your MB. I have this issue with two macbooks and i can't seem to find many other people who have this problem. I'm unsure whether it's the audio popping issue mentioned in other threads because this happens when no external speakers are plugged in. It's just pops away on it's own and it's driving me mad, i can't even pin it down to a specific task because it;s so random.
Both of my Macbook are operating under 10.4.11.
    Arrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

Actually now that you've mentioned it, mine sometimes randomly makes the popping sounds, more to the likes of 'clipping' of speakers. But the odd thing is, mine only pops when connect my speakers (it's a Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 setup which i purchased over 6 years ago) - and the speakers have been fine all these while? I am positive that it's not my speakers because just recently (2-3 days ago) my brother brought his HP laptop and used my speakers and i did not hear anything even after he left his inferior (haha kidding) laptop on my desk to have a smoke without any music/sound coming out of the speakers.
To be more precise. my popping sound occurs specifically (as I haven't tried others) as I pause my music on iTunes. It does annoy the h*ll out of me and I really assumed that it was my speakers.
At least I'm not alone now. My Macbook specs are listed below.

  • Sigmatel Audio Chipset and Popping Sound

I have an Intel iMac, which I purchased in April of 2006. Ever since I have had it it has had an annoying popping sound problem. The problem happens 4 times at startup. The problem is noticeable at the beginning and end of the computer playing a sound. Such as a system sound or changing the volume. If other audio, such as an mp3 or dvd is already playing the system sounds will not exhibit the behavior. This is because the audio chipset is already active. The problem happens because immediately after playing a sound the chipset goes to sleep and playing a new sound wakes it up, causing the popping sound. I have had it at the Mac store twice and they could not fix the problem. I have asked Apple to fix the problem or give me a refund. They stated that they will not do that. They also stated that they are aware of the issue and that Apple does not consider it a problem. It is a problem for someone like me who is a musician and uses the computer to produce music. You can only imagine how many pops and clicks I here while creating music. Apple released an audio update in July which sounds like it should fix the problem. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem. I know the problem is unique to the Sigmatel hardware or software driver for the device because it has the same problem in other environments. I have Windows Vista installed on this same iMac using bootcamp and I have the exact same problem in Vista. So the problem (design flaw) is either with the Sigmatel hardware or any of the software written for the hardware. I also had an Intel motherboard, the D975XBX2, with a Sigmatel audio chipset on it. This board also had the same problem. I disabled the onboard sound and installed a Creative Audigy 2 ZS and the problem was not present. I do not know which audio chipset is being used in the new iMacs or the newer Macbook Pros, but I hope that Apple has switched to something besides the Sigmatel, because this is a very annoying problem (design flaw).

  • WMV file causes popping sound in audio when imported into FCP

I am trying to import a WMV file that a client wants inserted into their project. When I import the file into a bin, it's fine. When i try to insert clips from the file into the timeline, I get popping sounds throughout..seems to be ad hoc.
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
    thank you!

The only fix that I know of is to convert the WMV file into a format that FCP works with natively ... preferably one that matches your FCP Sequence settings.
To get the best results, don't use WMV as a source. See if the client can provide the footage in it's original format in order to maintain quality.

  • How do you remove the pop sound in between looped samples?

I have recently purchased the thor synthesiser for use with Garageband on the ipad. When I record a bassline and then loop it, There is an audible pop/click noise as sample repeats. This is really annoying as its an obvious impurity in the sound. I have the same problem looping recordings made using the ikaossilator.
Does anyone know an easy way to get round this? Or any way at all?
    Many thanks
    Dan

The pop at the end/beginning of a loop occurs when you don't have a "zero point" at the end of the sample, i.e. when it's not quiet or at least the audio wave is zero at this point so it can pick up seamlessly. Try to play your sample so that this is the case!

  • Clicking/popping sound at the beginning of tracks when going to next track

some of my songs have clicking/popping sound at the beginning of the track only when I hit the next track button
if I let the track end the pop/click won't happen
    any idea what this is?

Re-import one of the of the problem CDs in a lossless format, such as AIFF or Apple Lossless. Play a little to verify that the tracks are good. Then use iTunes to convert them to AAC.
Verify that those new tracks are good, and if so, you can then discard the lossless versions and keep the AACs.

  • My Read Aloud ePub producing popping sounds despite clean audio, any suggestions?

    Hello Experts,
I'm having trouble with my Read Aloud ePub, when loaded to iPad and run through iBook, some of the pages produce pop sounds before the narration starts. I have separate audio for each page and they are clean. Audio don't have any popping or clipping sounds in it but when run in iPad it produce pop sounds.
    Any suggestions?
