Pops/Glitches/Dropouts Caused by ACPI

Hey everyone,
So to keep this short, i have a seperate boot partition with Windows 7 64 bit installed.  I use this partition solely for DJing, therefore i have installed; itunes, my DJ software, and windows updates.  I use an external USB soundcard for routing
the sound from the dj software to my speakers.
The problem im having is the DPC latency spikes that are caused by ACPI.sys which as a result cause pops and clicks in my audio playback. When ACPI is disabled in device manager, the spikes go away and audio playback is fine.  However, when i do this
i cannot keep an eye on the status of my battery etc and ive heard that my system will underperform with it disabled.
Therefore i am writing to seek a profesional opinion as to the best way to go about this problem.  I have racked my brain/the internet for a year to find the answer but cant seem to figure it out. I have seen some solutions that may work, but wanted
to know also if this would work on my laptop:
Option 1: Install XP as a standard pc (can this be done with 64 bit)? CAn it be done at all?
Option 2: Install windows 7 with ACPI disabled in the BIOS? Would this even work?
Option 3: Disable acpi.sys. Dont really want to do this because of the lack of battery management.
Sys specs:
Core Duo Processor @ 2.66ghz
4GB RAM
Gefore 9650M GT 1GB Graphics
Windows 7 64 Bit
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

God i wish that were the case! I run the laptop in High Performance ALL the time, regardless of being connected to power supply or not. As i need all the power i can get for graphics etc.
I know for sure that the spikes are caused by the acpi.sys as it has been discussed on many other digital DJing/music production forums (and the spikes disapear when its disabled). Apparently the problem is caused because the sound card is allowed to share
IRQ's with other USB devices, (this is why people have suggested running windows with acpi disabled so a different IRQ can be assigned to each device, bear in mind im not THAT knowledgeable about the inner workings of a computer so dont know if this
is true).
This is something that im surprised hasnt been brought up before on these forums to be honest! I would have thought its a problem which has roots deep in the inner workings of the computer and im sure theres no solution but its worth a try!

You installed adware along with something else.
You can either follow Apple's manual instructions for removing it, or use the free automated tool, AdwareMedic.

I got another BSOD (they seem to come periodically on my X61), this time caused by the ACPI IRQ Holder. It is supposedly incompatible with my Vista Business SP1 (all updates installed). Anybody know what this holder is? How to solve this problem?
    Here's the Windows error message:
Problem caused by ACPI IRQ Holder
This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between this version of Windows and ACPI IRQ Holder.
This product is usually distributed by the company that manufactured your device or computer.
    Note
If you bought ACPI IRQ Holder from a retailer and installed it yourself, you will need to contact its manufacturer.

  • Win 8.1 update - sound popping / glitch in MetroTube and all APPS when scrubbing video

My phone Nokia 1020 was working fine. I then downloaded the over the air update for Win 8.1 and Cyan on Thursday 7th August from O2.
Since then I have experienced a loud popping / static noise when playing video in all apps (except StoryTeller)
    Using built-in speaker:
When I play video in any App with a video scrubber and I scrub the time-line and realise the scrubber it makes a loud click or static pop.
    It happens in everything including:
    Mytube
    Metrotube
    Tubepro
Photos App (i.e Microsoft one - playing a recorded video in they all now have a loud click / static pop)
Xbox Video App (i.e Microsoft's own App)
    Using Headphones:
There is no load click (It plays how it used to)
The odd bit is using the speaker and playing music tracks (mp3s etc) and scrubbing there is no static popping click it plays fine.
    Video In Web Browser Fine:
Playing YouTube Videos in the web brower there is no popping / static click noise.
I have just downloaded 'xVideo' App and played a HD Music video in it and used scrubber and there is NO loud click.
Sound Glitches in Audio Clips at end of recordings in all these Apps:
    Babbel - Learn Spanish
    Coolang - Learn Spanish
Zeemish - Learn Spanish for Beginners
its really annoying and makes trying to listen and remember pronunciation of words difficult and frustrating. Phone was ok before Microsoft Windows 8.1 update now have this issue and issue with static build-up causing popping when fast forwarding through
videos. :( I am feed up
    Conclusion:
This is software bug? please can anyone help/advise me on how to fix this and if anyone else is having same glitch with 8.1 update :(
All I can think of to fix is to somehow downgrade to Windows 8 if that's possible? :( *update its not possible using Nokia Recovery as it puts back Win 8.1.
It is a Software bug introduced in Windows Phone 8.1 update. It effects everything! including
Microsofts own Video Xbox App and
Photo App. See other people frustrations on this issue, its been going on since April!!!! please can you fix this is ruining my Windows Phone experience:

  • Glitches/dropout on burned DVD.  HELP!!

    Hello all,
Great forum. Really hope someone can help.
My problem is that I have burned using DVDSP3 onto verbatim DVD-R using a superdrive.
On the finished product there are several glitches that look like dropout of some sort ie. blockey distortion. It only seems to effect the video and not audio. It also seems to happen near the end of the disk. I have buned several copies and each one has the same problem but at different points. This makes me think that it's the actuall type of DVD that I'm using as my output media. If so can anyone reccomend a type of DVD. I dont get this problem with simulator.
It's a live music concert so I haven't compressed the audio.
    It's a big file - 4.3gb mpg2, 107mins approx.
Would this have anything to do with it.
Another quickie, is how much does AC-3 compression affect the audio in terms of file size and quality. What AC-3 setting should I use for optimum size/quality.
It's already late for release and I'm starting to loose my mind. Help!

Where do I reduce the data rate and what settings ahould I use for this?
I did mean to keep the vision as is, and just replace the sound with an .ac3, which would lower the overall data rate by about 1Mbps. I'd assumed you were about to try this! See lots of previous posts - search for 'bit rate too high' et c. Hopefully, this should mostly sort out your problem.
..been advised that it could be the burn speed set too high causing ..
Have a look at the thread burn speed
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=514623
...does the disk quality affect a final product?
Yes it does. Find a brand partly by trial & error for your burner; but do use a named branded product. Verbatim & Ritek are good starting points.

  • Does the Pop-Up Menu causes the Video a small jump to the closest Pop-Up chapter?

I have setted five Pop-up Chapter Menu for my project but after burning the blu ray, I have notice the vidoe coming close to one of the Pop-up Chapter will a small jump to the pop-up point. It happens to all of the Pop-Up chapter. Is there a way to make the movie smooth without the slight jump when approaching the Pop-up point. Also is there a away to view the pop-up menu when I build the project to ensure it is working? I cannot find on the Encore help menu, thanks for reading.
    Wayne

Bummer. Could be a problem with the MBP drive. Are you using Re-writable discs maybe?
Check the discs work in your HP machine. They may have burnt but not successfully. Your HP machine may not be able to open them either.
Have you considered using a USB flash device to transfer the photos, or just copy them over your home network? CD is a slow an cumbersome method.

  • Graphical Glitch - What caused it?

My Macbook Pro's (version 10.6.8) screen started to go crazy. It would come and go until I restarted my computer. It has yet to start again and I have never seen this before. • Video glitch - possible causes.

i thought iMovie was acting up (I am still at HD 6), so i got FCE which i thought would be more robust, but the "problem" still happens. i thought it was happening on import, but then i realize it was happening on play through and play back and i even saw it happen while playing a youtube video.
what i observed was this: i had a clip of a model train moving across the screen from right to left, camera stationary. irregularly, the video would appear to "stutter." the train would jump forward a little or backward a little. the problem generally happens in roughly the same places in the video, but not necessarily every time.
the video is recorded to and played from an internal drive. i am not certain, but i think audio is unaffected.
what should i be looking at? is this possibly a hardware issue?

I know what you mean. I feel much the same way. And I really do hope it is merely a driver issue of some kind rather than a hardware problem. If it is hardware, then it is the 3rd new Mac I have bought in a row that has been faulty
I do however suspect that it is software/drivers. Simply because im yet to read a single report from anyone saying that UT2004 does not crash at some point on their new alu iMac.
As i have said in numerous other threads now, I'll hold out for 10.4.11 or some other update of some kind that will hopefully fix it. If it does not fix it, or the update is not forthcoming very soon, then of course I will be complaining to Apple.

  • Strange capture dropouts/glitches

    Hi,
Interesting capture issue going on here and I'm at a loss for what could be causing it. I've done a lot of reading on the forums and have run a variety of tests to narrow down the issue. My main production box is the PowerBook with FCP, but I started doing tests with a spare JVC camera and a Windows box to see if I could zero in on the software and hardware variables involved here. So far, it does not look like an OS-specific or NLE-specific problem as it is occurring cross-platform, but I'm posting it here in the FCP area since that's my primary NLE and I figure you folks might know what is going on here.
    First, my specs:
    Station 1:
    PowerBook 17 1.67ghz w/ 2GB RAM
    Mac OS X 10.4.7
    FCP 5.1.1
    QT 7.0.4
HFS+ formatted Western Digital 7200RPM External 320GB HDD (via Firewire 400 cable)
Canon GL1 camera (via Firewire 800 cable)
    Station 2:
    Gateway Desktop (2ghz w/ 1.5GB RAM)
    Windows XP SP2 (fully patched)
    Windows Movie Maker
NTFS-formatted Western Digital 7200RPM External 320GB HDD (via Firewire 400 cable)
JVC GR-D350 camera (via Firewire 400 cable)
All footage is shot on the GL1 on pre-blacked Sony miniDV tapes with a 60 second pre and post roll. All capturing is done to the two external 7200 WD drives, NTFS on the Windows box, HFS+ on the Mac.
Basically, the situation is that when I playback a tape on station one or station two, footage looks perfectly fine on either camera's LCD viewfinder. If I log some clips in FCP and do a batch capture or if I do a straight capture in WMM, I get dropouts in the captured footage.
These dropouts are not the classic dropouts caused by timecode breaks on tape (no aborts during capture) but are almost like a tiny "skip" over a piece of existing footage that I know exists on tape. Timecode will flow perfectly on the clip when placed in the FCP timeline, but the "glitch" is discernible as the audio and video seem to jump several frames (or even seconds) forward. Playback outside of FCP using Quicktime Player and outside of WMM using Windows Movie Maker confirms that the captured footage has the dropout hard-coded in. If I go back to tape and play back the exact same portion of my footage where I am seeing the dropout, everything looks clean.
Take all problematic clips offline in FCP and do another batch capture with the Canon? New video files are created with the dropouts again, but now the dropouts occur in different places! Over in WMM with the JVC, dropouts also come back to appear in different places when capturing the same clips.
The only difference appears to be that the WMM/JVC combo gets WAY more dropouts than the FCP/Canon.
FCP/Canon: 1 dropout ever few minutes.
    WMM/JVC: Several dropouts per minute.
For my last project, this problem resulted in my having to scour the finished edited piece (over two hours), find every single dropout (about 25) and then go back and recapture just those moments, then frame-splice them back into my finished sequences in the exact places where they belonged, then moving the entire timeline forward by a few frames in order to patch things cleanly. It was a total nightmare!
Tests I am lining up next:
    1. Capture footage to the startup disks on both stations (have to clear some data off first).
    2. Buy some new firewire cables
    3. Record some footage with the JVC onto a clean Sony tape, see how playback/capture goes in WMM and FCP.
Any other ideas? I'm betting someone has seen this before.
    Joe

Pre-blacking a tape to avoid timecode breaks doesn't work. It is a myth. All it does is prevent your footage from starting over from 00;00;00;00. But if you record, then stop the camera to review, then stop AFTER the recorded footage, you will have a timecode break. Video cameras don't INSERT EDIT onto the tape, they ASSEMBLE EDIT. That is, they write over everything that was recorded before, including timecode. So blacking a tape does nothing, really. Only give you better chances to incur tape dropouts as you are now recording on the tape twice.
The best option is to leave the camera rolling for a few seconds after your shot so that when you review your footage, you stop the tape while you still have an image. This way, the camera will pick up where it left off.
Do the dropouts only occur at places where timecode breaks occur? If there were timecode breaks, how did you capture it all as one clip? Have you disabled timecode capture by selecting NON-CONTROLLED DEVICE?

  • IOS 5 causes a glitch where my ipod does not sense motion

ios 5 causes a glitch that causes games like temple run to not notice motion, such as tilting. what can i do?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Glitches from recorded instrument and NOT recorded mic??

Okay, I know this has been a standard concern. Clicks, pops, "glitches" in recording. However, I have been using Logic Pro 8 for about 7 months and have just now encountered this issue. I have recorded multiple track recordings with my mic input many times before. I have used up to 12 different tracks of audio recordings from my mic. My project has always played back with no issues whatsoever. Yesterday I was for the first time recording a bass guitar. I began having glitches in the recording. It got really bad to the point i had to restart Logic. I upped the I/O buffer size from 128 to 256 and that helped a little. I stilled had a crackle here and there. I know it was not being recorded because on playback i can play the same part over again and not here the crackle in the same spot. Why is my recorded bass track giving me crackles when I have had up to 12 tracks of audio recorded from my mic with up to 24 different audio regions, all tracks with several plugins and never once had this issue. I am having this issue with my 2 audio tracks of recorded bass. NO plugins. I do not have more software instruments than normal either. I have tried adjusting my buffer size to many different settings, anything below 256 causes a "system overload" error after a minute or so. Anything up to the max 1024 still gives me "crackles". Here is my system and settings I normally have on default........
    iMac 24" 2009
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
2.66 GHz intel core 2 duo
    4 Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
Disk: recording to iMac internal Drive 1TB, have around 600 GB free
    Recording Hardware:
Apogee Duet via FW port on iMac
    Logic Settings:
    Logic Pro 8.02
I/O Buffer Size:128 (What I have always used)
    I/O Safety Buffer: Not checked
    Recording Delay:0
    Universal Track Mode: Checked
    24 Bit Recording: Checked
Software Monitoring: Checked (Have tried without)
    Independent Monitoring Level:Checked

I hope I have given enough info for some helpful input, THANKS IN ADVANCE
    Logic Audio Setttings

nope not yet. I'm going to go home and try a few things, first i'm going to REstart my computer. I'm going to compare different projects to the one i'm having issues with. Make sure it is just specific to the project. If not, then I have something more serious happening that is now affecting projects that were fine in the past. Then I will also see about using Logics Duet mixer as opposed to Maestro. Also, BIGGY< i need to see that the crackling is still there in the tracks when playing through the Built in Audio. This will help distinguish if this is hardware based issue or not. And although i think i'm current, i'm going to double check and reisntall the newest DUET driver. IF these other things don't work. I'm just at work so i haven't been able to really get under this problem yet. BUt i've gotten good ideas on what to try.

  • Crashes, graphics glitches, and more crashes when editing video clips

Can't for the life of me figure out why PE keeps crashing on me, so I'm here for help.
My system consists of a i7-970 hexacore, 6GB ram, 1x 500GB os drive, 3x500gb raid 0 drives (this is where my video clips are stored), 2x GeForce GTX460 video cards.
OS is Windows 7 Profressional 64 bit.
The video files I work with are generally in the 50-200GB size.
A little background - the videos that I am working with are recordings from Battlefield Bad Company 2 that I have recorded with some capture software called Dxtory.
I record at 1920x1080 at 60 FPS to avi files.  The avi files are using the "xtor" codec (Dxtory's own codec)
    [ISFT]    DxtoryCore ver2.0.0.101
[ISRC]    Video:YUV420 Audio:Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Audio is PCM 192000Hz recorded in stereo.
Let me start by saying I have not had trouble with this before until I started recording the videos at 60 FPS.  30 FPS worked ok (some crashes here and there, but they were bearable), but the frequent crashes started happening when I started working with the 60 FPS videos, done mainly so I could play around with slowing the clips down, etc.
Sometimes I can open and edit clips just fine.
Recently, a project that I'm working on is crashing when I try putting two different clips from different files together on the time line.  I managed to get it to work once, and saved the project after that.  Then, PE crashed randomly and when trying to reopen the project, it just crashes and won't let me get any further.
I should mention the graphics glitches as well - occasionally (especially when previewing video clips before adding them to the timeline) after I close the preview window, the graphics in PE will glitch out, causing random lines to appear in certain areas, graphics to stack on top of eachother and freeze up, and sometimes I can click on the "play" button in the main project window and hear everything start playing, but the graphics are completely screwed up to the point where I can't view the video or hit the pause button.
All of my computer hardware is fine, all drivers, and PE, are up to date.
Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?  I'll be happy to provide any more information that might help out.

The most likely issue is the codec that your program is using the create your video. It's apparently not compatible with Premiere Elements.
This often happens also when people try to record their on-screen video with FRAPS.
You'll see lots of discussions on this issue in the Premiere Pro forum. However, it's even more pronounced in Premiere Elements, which is designed to work almost exclusively with camcorder video.
Some video programs are a little more versatile with this type of video. Some people have found Corell's Video Studio better at handling these non-traditonal formats.
But I did a Google search on Dxtory editing and couldn't find any information on it.
Sorry I can't offer a solution. But I can pretty much assure you that Premiere Elements isn't it. sorry.

  • How can I convert a POP account to IMAP

I have a POP account in the form [email protected], and I have just changed my hosting company from one that handles POP accounts only to one where accounts can be either POP or IMAP. The question is: how do I convert my existing POP account to IMAP? My main reason for wanting to do that is to keep the "Sent" folder synchronized so that Mail's sent item folder automatically gets stuff I send through web mail just like it does with my Dot Mac account.
I tried removing the existing POP account; this causes any email associated with this account that has not been moved to an "On my Mac" folder to vanish. When I create an IMAP account, these mails don't reappear, even though the email address is the same. Recreating the POP account, though, brings these emails back to life.
Of course, I can have both account definitions with the POP one having it's "include when automatically checking for new mail" checkbox unchecked, but that's really inelegant. Is there a way to convert the POP account into an IMAP account?

    Ernie Stamper wrote:
If the Inbox for this account only is revealed, is there any triangle beside it?
Ah, yes, I see! Silly me to be looking for Sent mail under "Sent"! Indeed, there's a disclosure triangle next to the account name under "Inbox", and wen you open it, it shows Drafts, Sent, spam, and Trash. The sent items are indeed there.
Mind you, my Dot Mac accounts show up normally, i.e., their sent mail goes under "Sent". Wish all IMAP accounts did that. It sure isn't logical to show sent mail inside an inbox...
But to answer your question: In addition to having the "Sent" folder for the account under "Inbox", I also have a folder for the account under "Sent". This folder disappears when I check the box to store messages on the server. There were emails in it (the ones I placed there myself). I have now moved those emails to the sent sub-folder under the account under "Inbox". Even with the "store on server" option UNchecked, the emails were instantly duplicated to the server, so that they were present both locally and remotely. I then checked the "store on server box"; this made the mailbox for the account under "Sent" vanish.
To summarize: things appear to work normally now, except that I find it very inconvenient to have to look in two separate "Sent" folders to find emails I've written.

    Hi Experts,
I have a Mail --> PI --> R/3 scenario and I am configuring the Mail sender adapter for POP3. The issue is that the POP server is not configured to be accessed via a URL and hence the URL pop://hostname/ is causing the following error at runtime:
    _1. When I use pop://Fully qualified host name/

    _2. When I use pop://IP address of host/
_Error: exception caught during processing mail message; java.net.SocketException: Connection timed out:could be due to invalid address
I am able to ping the POP3 server from the PI server using both the FQDN and IP address.
    Can someone please help.

  • IMac video glitches

About once a day I experience this strange graphical glitch.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/goochrules/3049656804 (can i get this image to display inline in my post?)
The color of the glitch vary, from yellow to magenta to cyan (light blue) to green. The pattern shown is typical, but the size and shape varies, and the pattern is sometimes mirrored, with either the upper left or right corner being the darkest.
The glitch goes away when the window it appears in is minimized, or the program is exited, or the window is obscured behind another window... basically anything that forces the area with the glitch to be redrawn. I am not sure if moving the window in which the glitch appears causes the glitch to go away.

Anyway thanks for replies... I will try to find the way to transport iMac to the nearest country with an apple service.... So sad, it was never happened with me, first critical issue with an apple device.
