Can you install 9iDB on solaris for Intel
If yes, where can i get 9i for solaris-Intel (or do i use the one for Sun-sparc).
ThanksHello dear people,
I'm trying to install the 9i Database for Sun SPARC (32-bit) on an Intel machine with Solaris 8 running. I followed all steps of the installation documentation, but when I try to execute the runInstaller programm, I get always the following error:
Syntax error at row 1: '(' unexpected.
Can you tell me, which is actually the terminal Release for Intel Solaris? I were very pleased.
Thanks,

9iAS for Sun Solaris Intel?
Will 9iAS be available for Sun Solaris Intel?
Thanks,
ShaneShane,
Due to bandwidth/space limitations, there are no plans at this time to put the Intel Solaris version of 9iAS onto OTN.
That said, the Intel Solaris version of 9i AS will be available through the following channels:
1) Ordering directly from the oracle store at store.oracle.com, or via your local Oracle representative.
2) If you have a previous version of iAS for intel solaris (with a support contract), you could request an upgrade via Oracle Worldwide support, and they will send you the software.
Best Regards,
Harry

I can't Install 8.1.7 on solaris version for Intel platform
I have installed 8.0 Sun Solaris on Intel PIII with 393 MB RAM
and I am not able to install Oracle8i (8.1.7) on the system.
Can u please let me know as to how to install.
When I invoke the runInstaller (Shell Script), It is rising a
error stating "syntax error at line 1: `(' unexpected".
Thanks.
Bye.Where did u get your oracle817 version for intel solaris?
in cdrom top dir, the runInstaller is just a shell script, and
there is a binary program in install dir, try to run that
program and give out the result? -
Weblogic on Intel Solaris(x86)
How to install weblogic 5.0 on intel solaris ..
I have weblogic 5.0 for sparc ..
And I am not finding any weblogic for intel solaris in platform sections at weblogic site...
Can I use sparc's weblogic for intel..
Please suggest me..
thanks,
Laxman.Weblogic 6.1 SP1 & SP2 works more or less on
solaris 8 for intel if you switch of native
ssl and are not trying to use clustering.
Note: this is my personal experience, bea
does NOT support such a configuration

Hi.
For WLS 5.1 the zip installation for unix machines is the same, but more
importantly we do not
support Solaris/Intel platforms. Even if you install ok the native libs
for solaris are all for
sparc platforms so I don't know if it will run.
Your best bet is to run on one of our supported platforms per
http://edocs.bea.com/wls/platforms/index.html.

Michael

Compatible NIC for Solaris 9 (9/05) x86
Hi,
Please can someone recommend me a cheap PCI Network card for Solaris 9 (9/05) for an Intel based PC (x86).
I currently have a US Robotics NIC installed, but Solaris does not recognise it and its been too much hassle to find drivers for it etc, so have decided to purchase another NIC that Solaris will recognise straight away!
Any recommendations?
Cheers

Solaris 10 for Intel - boot from floppydisk
Does anybody has an idea wheter it is possible to boot solaris 10 from floppydisk for installing the OS.
We have systems that cannot boot from ethernet/cdrom but we would like to use/install solaris 10 on these systems. It is possible to start the installation (boot from) a floppy disk, using
a "DCA" (device configuration assistant) floppy diskette.
A 1.44MB DCA floppy image can be found on CD 2/4 or the DVD, in
the subdirectory .../Solaris_10/Tools, file d1_image. Write it to a
blank floppy media using the Unix "dd" or the MSDOS "rawrite.exe"
utility.
After you start the boot process from the DCA floppy, you must
either use a CDROM / DVDROM device as the boot device for the
Solaris installation, or an NFS installation (server using a supported
NIC in the client; 3Com 3c905, Intel Pro/100, or Dec 21x4x do work). -
How to Install Solaris for Intel so that it boots off from a boot floppy?
Hi all,
Sorry to bother you with this one (I went through all documentations/manuals and could not find straight answers to following
specific questions):
I have one hard drive with 1st partition used by Windows XP and a second partition that's a blank FAT 32 (using Partition Magic)
I want to use for Solaris for Intel.
My very specific questions:
(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted
partition? I am asking you that because all manuals (except one) pretend that I can run my Solaris install on a blank Fat partition...
but I believe that documentation at multiboot.solaris-x86.org stresses that if the partition is not a blank UFS one, it wont install Solaris
(2)As you already know, some Oses like Linux or FreeBSD can be installed on a partition and be booted off a boot floppy.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only.
BTW, I currently have Solaris 7 for Intel.
Thanks for the answers.(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted You can install Solaris to that blank FAT32 drive but Solaris WILL convert it to UFS BEFORE doing the install. In other words, after the install it will be UFS and not FAT32 anymore.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only. Not that I know of. Some people have reported booting Solaris off of a USB drive though.
