Popup 'AFP Connection status'

A couple of weeks ago I set-up my MacBook as a kind of file server. I created some sharepoints for my iMac and the two Windows PC's (sorry) of my children allowing all systems to share files but also to have private shares on the server.
Everything worked fine and last week I bought a MacMini to replace the temporary set-up with my MacBook.
I set-up the MacMini similar to the MacBook and changed the drive mappings on the Windows systems as well as the connections on my iMac. Everything works fine again but I seem to have missed something: when rebooting and logging on I get a popup message 'AFP-connectionstatus' (okay, my message is in Dutch). It tells me ' Looking for the MacBook'.
I think I checked everything but I cannot find this last entry regarding the MacBook. Where can I find this? What am I missing?
Can somebody help

OK then, it may be a good idea to connect manually. The reason is, when you do a routine Apple update it can change the format of all the Keychain keys for security purposes. Using any kind of aoutomount will suddenly cause it to fail non-gracefully, that is, Finder crashes.
The solution is to connect to the server manually using the "Go" menu "Connect to Server". This will alow the Keychain to update properly.
Hope that fixes it.

  • Motion crashes on open: AFP Connection Status window appears

I am one of the overly enthusiastic fools who went to the Intel Mac Pro too early--before even Apple's FCP Studio ran reliably on it. (And apparently it doesn't even now.)
But I digress before I begin. Here's my challenge:
Motion--and only Motion--crashes every time I try to open it.
Before it ultimately crashes, this window appears:
    AFP Connection Status
    Looking up "G4MDD"
G4MDD refers to my previous computer, a G4MDD, which I ran networked to the Mac Pro until recently because I had to constantly default back to it to finish projects when the Intel Mac Pro misbehaved inexplicably.
I've followed all of Apples suggestions posted on "Troubleshooting Basics." I've trashed preferences AND reinstalled Motion 2. It's still looking for the G4, I know not why.
From the error report I've sent to Apple time and again, I take the following to be the problem:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
    SUGGESTIONS?...PLEASE?

    Might try these solutions...

I do not think this is an xsan issue. DNS or AFP is more suspicious, I think. Do you recognize "Wildlife"? Is it a share or system on your site?

  • AFP Connection Status box shows each time I launch Photoshop

I am on a 2-computer network and whether I am off the network or on, each time I launch PhotoshopCS the AFP Connection Status box pops up with the message: Looking up "[name's] computer" (the other computer on the network). Why is this appearing and how do I get rid of it? It's the only application this happens in. I'm on a PowerBook G4; the other computer is a G5 tower. Both run OSX 10.4.xx. (When this happens I press Cancel in the dialog box and Photoshop continues to launch.)

BDAqua, Thanks for trying to help; you're the only person who responded. I have read the two threads you sent, but I'm not seeing the similarities between these issues and mine. I don't think I changed a user short name; I went to the Users folder as suggested in one of the posts and there are three users: me, the other person who's computer I connect to sometimes, and a shared folder. The other thread looks like it has to do with someone who's ON a network and can't see the other computers. That's not my problem.
Any other suggestions? It only happens when I launch Photoshop, and naturally I have saved something from the other computer to mine in that program, but in lots of others too.

  • Help Viewer doesn't help...AFP connection status?

I use Airport Extreme Basestation 'n' to connect to the internet.
When I use the "Help"menu (Mac Help), I get a spinning beach ball and a box that says, AFP Connection Status...Looking up "XXXXXX'S Computer." I click on the "Cancel" button, nothing happens. I tried to quit the Help Viewer but couldn't. I have to Force Quit the Help Viewer.
    What is AFP Connection Status?

Hi, Carlos. Welcome to the Discussions.
See my "Troubleshooting Help Viewer" FAQ for comprehensive advice on fixing problems with Help Viewer.
In particular, the specific sections therein may prove helpful:
    - If Help Viewer links do not work, see the "Help Viewer links do not work" section of the FAQ.
    - If Help Viewer displays a blank window, see the "Help Viewer displays a blank window" section of the FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • AW Dependent upon AFP connection and will not open files

Over the holiday break I brought an old G4 home so the kids could play. I linked it to a local network with a router. Pretty simple.
Now that the old machine is back working away at the office, the G5 at home will not open any AW files. It will spin the colored beach ball and finally a dialogue box will appear with the AFP connection status and it has a statement which says Looking up "G4." Another box will then appear stating a connection could not be made.
All of a sudden there seems to be this dependence upon the old G4 as a server.
How can I get AW to work again?

If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

  • Clearing Unwanted AFP Connection

I have a brand new unit and copied over my apps and profile as part of the set up process. Along with it came a setting for an old, and no longer existing, AFP server (by IP address). Now, during every startup, I receive an "AFP Connection Status" window looking for this non-existant server, which I never received on the old G4. The only reference I found for it was under the Finder in "recent servers", which I cleared.
I'm looking for suggestions on where else to look and what to change to remove this entry all together.
    Thanks

there is probably a file it's looking for on the old server such as a font, file or folder.
I remember this happening to me when I pointed Safari's default download location from the desktop to a testing server. once it was offline it would hang and hang with the AFP message.
figuring out which one may be tricky, but I think that's probably it.
    good luck.

  • Server Admin [disabled/asleep] afp connections

    1 OD Master, 10 Replicas
On all the servers (except 1 replica which is connected via a T1 line) I get many AFP connections that have a status of Disabled/Asleep
When I Disconnect these, the server behaves better.
My question: Why is this happening? How can I have the server disconnect these on its own?

Seems that I need to wait for OS X Server 10.5

  • Can we test a DB connection status via OCCI?

When our DB connection is lost, our VC++ application terminates. We get a Runtime Error message popup: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way", which implies that the application is causing the error.
    1. Any ideas on why we're crashing (e.g. are we trying a database I/O operation when there's no connection)?
    2. If so, is there any way to test the connection status so our application can avoid doing things that crash?
    Thanks, Ed.

I found this old thread and thought to get the answer to this very common question.
But a clear answer I miss. To extract database-down-or-things-like-that error codes will never hit all cases. You will not be able to extract all relevant codes.
OCI gives the possibility to check server state. Use this inside handling of SQLException to check connection status.
But this solution will not detect every diconnect state as well:-
'ORA-00028: your session has been killed'
is not an server down indication and therefore server state is still ok :-(
    OCIError* ociError;
    ub4 serverStatus = -1;
    OCIHandleAlloc( env->getOCIEnvironment(), (void**)&ociError, OCI_HTYPE_ERROR, 0, NULL );
    OCIAttrGet( conn->getOCIServer(), OCI_HTYPE_SERVER, &serverStatus, 0, OCI_ATTR_SERVER_STATUS, ociError );
    OCIHandleFree( (dvoid*)ociError, OCI_HTYPE_ERROR );

  • Exchange 2010 all mail clients with internal cached and internal non-cached mode users having connection status issues, login prompt -- external is fine either way

    Hello,
I'm seeing an issue that started this past Monday with no recent change to our environment.
External Outlook Anywhere users and Mobile users, OWA users are unaffected.
Internal Users are affected when using Outlook of any version, 2010 or 2013.
-Internal Users normally log into their workstation with their ad credentials, domain joined machines. Outlook opens without credentials prompting ideally.
    1 . Using Cached Mode:
    a. Login Prompts, slowness - Since Monday, users are getting prompted to login. The prompt goes away after logging in at startup. It is also causing high CPU
    on the workstations.
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office doesn't work. I can, however complete auto-setup for a new user, so autodiscover is not completely down for internal users.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows connecting status on highlighted entry below without ever establishing connection (just goes away).
The outlook icon in the system tray says "Outlook is requesting data from the server":
    2. Using Non-cached mode
    a. No Login Prompt at startup, business as usual
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office works fine. Autodiscover is fine.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows normal except, it has "casarray URL, then status is referral" it seams to flicker this constantly then go away intermittently.
    d. Main issue in non-cached mode is, sometimes a user will log into windows, open outlook and it will not open and says "server is unavailable. Retry, work offline, or cancel" I can try re-opening, same message.
Only after logging out of windows, logging back in, I can get back into outlook. This is not every time, or consistent with specific users, but random.
    3. Lync Pop up  for credentials often, though entering the password.
URLs are correct. Autodiscover, EWS, etc.
Already tried bypassing our loadmaster load balancer with host files on clients. same issue regardless of casarray node.
Not sure what is going on.
    Josh

You have a hybrid configuration with Office 365, right?  You didn't provide this valuable piece of information.
In Exchange Online PowerShell run this command:
    Get-OrganizationConfig | FL PublicFoldersEnabled
If the value is "Remote" then users with Exchange Online mailboxes are looking to on-premises public folders.  Be sure that you have legacy pubic folder interoperability properly configured.

  • Network Connectivity Status Indicator for IPv6 works wrong in Windows 7 and Windows 8

    Hi Folks,
I am working on testing Network Connectivity Status Indicator for IPv6 in Windows 7 and 8.
Waht is "Network Connectivity Status Indicator(NCSI)" you can refer to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee126135%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
I found that even if Network Connectivity Status Indicator detect IPv6 connection to http://ipv6.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt failed.
Windows IE still use IPv6 to connect to website first, rather than stop using IPv6 and to use IPv4.
It will cause IPv6 fallback to IPv4 problem, that's 21 secs and 7 secs delay for fallback in Windows 7 and 8.
Does anyone suffer the same problem?
Or someone know how this works?
    Thanks!

    Hi Roger_Wang0214,
"Windows IE still use IPv6 to connect to website first, rather than stop using IPv6 and to use IPv4."
By default Windows prefers IPv6 over IPv4,we can manually configure the IPv4 prefer over IPv6 if it has result in any troubles.
Here is a link for reference :
Resolving Internet connectivity issues after World IPv6 Launch (June 6, 2012)
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2533454
"The "Prefer IPv4 over IPv6" Fix it solution will configure your computer to prefer IPv4, instead of IPv6. By default, Windows prefers IPv6 over IPv4. If you are having problems using IPv6 to connect to some websites, this may resolve the
    problem."
For a Windows 7 machine ,we can try the following fixit tool to configure IPv4 prefer over IPv6 .For a Windows 8.1 machine ,we can configure it referring to the manual part .
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents
If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, we can create it (DWORD (32-bit) Value). Then set a value with "0x20"to prefer IPv4 over IPv6 by changing entries in the prefix policy table.

  • Self-assigned IP, no internet connection status with FIOS?

a friend just had FIOS installed at her house and after it was set up she was able to connect to the internet. i came over later in the day to join her airport express to this WiFi network by using airport  utility (she wanted to have her printer available on the network). after i tried setting it up using her macbook (it failed because the WEP key used by verizon is 64 bit and apple only supports 128 bit) and rejoined the FIOS router network we lost the internet connection. in network preferences it showed a self--assigned IP address but no internet connection status. i've tried deleting this network from the joined network list, deleted the password from keychain and then rejoining the network, putting in the password when prompted. still the same "no internet connection" status. any ideas?
    thanks!

Eh la Pastenague! Je savais que tu était léthale pour l'homme mais ce sont pluôt les machines à pommes qui devraient te craindre. Merci! Solved.
    For future reference.
My TC is a 3rd gen.
I actually had to reset to standard defaults not only once but twice. The first time I simply returned to my old profile but that only led to the same message error on the network settings (i.e. IP by default, cannot connect to the internet). Therefore the second time around I kept my profile as backup and re-created a new one plus a guest one.
The airport utility then signaled to issues remaining:
    1) Internet access was cut - this I solved by simply reseting the cable modem
    2) There were no DNS Servers - I simply copied the ones I had from the previous setup and it worked
    I did have AppleCare....
I'm online again and I hope for good.
    Thanks a lot
PS. a small tip - I made captures of all my settings in Network settings, Airport Utility and Network utility using Grab in case of ... if anything it is just handy to get back settings that your are missing when setting up a new configuration

  • Network connection status timed out.

I have been trying for two days to sign into the iTune store so that I can activate and sync my iPhone. I get the following message "itune store connection status failed. Network connection timed out."
I downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes and I still get the same error message.
Is there anyway to resolve this?

With Applicatrions>Utilities>Disk Utility, run it, click on your boot drive, look near the bootom far a button that say about Permiiaions..
But I feel a beeter way is to get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Can I encrypt an AFP connection

    Hi,
I've got an OSX server configured as a webserver and are using webdav with a SSL cert to allow customers to send and receive files. The only problem with this is that I can't enforce change of password.
Was wondering if we changed it to an afp connection would I still get any sort of encryption (needs to be 128bt). Also I guess I could then enforce password rules.
    Thanks

    Dear user495600,
    Please read the following articles;
    http://it.toolbox.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_encrypt_indexed_columns_in_Oracle
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/security/database-security/transparent-data-encryption/tde_faq.html#A12007
    From the Oracle documentation;
    Transparent Data Encryption
       1. Will encrypted data be decrypted for all users who have been authorized to see it?
       2. What is the overhead associated with TDE?
       3. What are the encryption algorithms that can be used with TDE?
       4. Is it possible to use 3rd party encryptions algorithms in place of the ones provided by TDE?
       5. Can I use TDE column encryption on columns used in foreign key constraints?
       6. Can columns that are used for joins be encrypted?
       7. Can indexed columns be encrypted?
       8. What data types and data lengths does TDE column encryption support?
       9. Does the data stay encrypted on the network?
      10. Does the database memory (SGA) contain clear-text or encrypted data?
      11. How do I know which data to encrypt?
      12. Where is the data that needs to be encrypted?
      13. With Oracle Database 11gR1, shall I use TDE column encryption or TDE tablespace encryption?
      14. How is TDE different from the encryption toolkit Oracle already provides?
      15. How is TDE licensed?
    Number 7:
    # Can indexed columns be encrypted?
TDE tablespace encryption supports all indexes transparently.
For TDE column encryption, the index needs to be a normal B-tree index, used for equality searches. In case of a composite, function-based index, the encrypted column cannot be the one that was used for the function. When encrypting a column with an existing index, it is recommended to first extract the index definition with dbms_metadata.get_ddl, then drop the index, encrypt the column with the 'no salt' option, and re-build the index.http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/security/tde/tde.htm
    Hope That Helps.
