POPup LOV value

Hi,
I have a POPUP LOV (which displays a numeric id and description).
I want the user to be able to type a number in the pop lov and as soon as they are done entering I want the corresponding description (in the lov) to be displayed in a text box. How can i do this without submitting the page?
Thanks

Hi Dan,
Yeah I am able to see the value now. (as I had to submit the page to see the value though). but my problem is the user wants to enter the id or select it through the popup and they want to see the description in another field on the same form.
(this works fine in oracle forms. so they (users) are expecting the same functionality here in apex too).
so i have to use the popup lov instead of the popup key lov.
(i have a lot of validations and processes that run when the form is submitted.)
Thanks
Knut

  • How to get the value from one Popup lov column to another popup lov column

    Hi,
    I am new to oracle apex development and having the below issue.
    In my application, there is a tabular form with 15 columns ( c1.. c15).
    I have to populate the value of column C5 based on the selected(from popup lov) value of column C3, tried to use onchange, but didn't help much.
    Any help please.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Oh boy, this is a fun one.
    onchange should work theoretically (in this example, assume that f05 is the target column that should be set and "this" is the source item whose value is to be transferred to f05 on the same row (row 2)):
    onchange=$s('f05_0002',$v(this));
    BUT the catch is of course that needs to be different for every row (can't hardcode the '2'), so you need something to dynamically create the row number component.
    I wrote this for an app I'm working on that uses master-detail forms heavily (I also wrote a lot more code to read the fmap array that is in v4 so that I can reference my cells via their column name and not the numeric position (so "f05 can be determined w/o hard coding), insulating against columns moving around, columns being made display-only etc. but I won't bore you with that here unless you really need to know).
    function getRow(pObj)
    { //Pass in an object reference to a tabular form cell and get back an integer
      //derived from the object ID.
      var vRow=pObj.id.substr(pObj.id.indexOf("_")+1);
      if (isNaN(vRow))
        return (null);
      return (parseInt(vRow,10));
    function formatRow(pRow)
    { //Pass in an integer and it'll be returned as the tabular form cell ID suffix
      //(e.g.: pass in 1 and get back string "_0001").
      //Used in building ID references to tabular form cells.
      if((isThingEmpty(pRow)) || (isNaN(pRow)))
        return(null);
      var vRow=pRow.toString();
      while(vRow.length<4)
        vRow="0"+vRow;
      return("_"+vRow);
    }Therefore:
    onchange=$s('f05_'+formatRow(getRow(this)),$v(this));
    So in essence, pass in "this" which will be a reference to the current item, largely to determine what row we're on. getRow will return 1, 2, 3, etc. formatRow will take that and return 0001, 0002, 0003, etc. Once that is done, it'll concatenate with the f05 and f04 to refer to the correct columns (determining f05, f04, etc. dynamically is another matter if you really need to but I didn't want to complicate this answer too much at once).
    Note: above I also use a isThingEmpty() function that I wrote. It does nothing other than check the item for an empty string, if the item is null, etc. Just do your own evaluation of empty-string, no-value, etc. there.
    It would indeed be nice though if Apex had a better way to delclaratively access the tabular form items though. Despite all the v4 enhancements, tabular forms were not entirely upgraded to the same full functionality of page items.

  • Return multiple values for the popup LOV

    Hi folks,
    I have one challange. I have a search engine and there is an popup lov and its having three Display and 3 Retun value such as
    select
    p.A || ', ' || pi.B|| ', ' || km.C|| ' ' d, p.A || ', ' || pi.B|| ', ' || km.C|| ' ' r
    from tableA km,tableB p,tableC pi
    where km.col1=p.id and km.col1=pi.id and km.C is not null
    when i click on the pop lov it will display 3 values shuch as SAP+DBA+HR and in popup lov iteam its will return 3 values
    such as SAP+DBA+HR this return values are from 3 cloumn names from same table ie. A column, B column, C column
    and when i click on submit button this return values from 3 columns values should assign to the 3 column such as
    A=SAP, B=DBA and C=HR and search fetchs the result in a Report.

    Hi Varad,
    am facing problems i wrote dynamic sql its working fine for 2 and 3 fields like (SAP+ORCL) and (SAP+ORCL+HRA) but for the single value like SAP the results are not comming properly. my code is
    If (:P25_TEST Is not Null ) THEN
    V_Sql := V_Sql||q'!
    And
    (multipleInstr1(R.Pillar,:P25_TEST)&gt;0 )
    or INSTR ( '+' || Upper(:P25_TEST) || '+', Upper(R.Pillar))&gt;0 ) and
    ((multipleInstr1(R.Product_Line,:P25_TEST)&gt;0 )
    or INSTR ( '+' || Upper(:P25_TEST) || '+', Upper(R.Product_Line))&gt;0) and
    ((multipleInstr1(R.Category,:P25_TEST)&gt;0 ) or (R.Category is null)
    or INSTR ( '+' || Upper(:P25_TEST) || '+', Upper(R.Category))&gt;0 )
    End If;
    where multipleInstr1 is a function created to search results even its delimited by '+' it ignors '+' delimiter and
    :p25_test is the popup iteam which takes values like SAP+ORCL+HRA or SAP+ORCL or SAP how its possible to get this results.
    Its turning too complicated for cheking condetion for a single popup iteam, can we get any solution for this or not..
    Hope will do respond
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Issue with Popup LOV field not clearing out "default" value

    I am using APEX 4.0 & Oracle 10g
    I have a form that displays a default value on a "Popup LOV" field (say P1_POPUP) when the Form is initially displayed to the user. The default value is part of the Popup LOV list of values. If the field is "manually cleared" *i.e. I clear the default value by backspacing and don't touch the LOV) and I Refresh (submit) the form (REFRESH button to display the same Form again), the default value is still displayed.
    In Post Processing, I debugged the value of P1_POPUP to see if holds the default value and yes it does. I was expecting no value in P1_POPUP.
    Is this an APEX standard behavior?
    Any way how I can get rid of this value on an manually clearing action of this Pop Up field?
    Looking forward for your response.
    Thank very much in advance.
    Ed.

    I apologize, the default value was NULL indeed. However, it seems like I may need to manually clear this value so that it will not be displayed.

    I need to bind this to the checkbox click event. But I don't know which option should I use to create this Dynamic action.
    Please help me out as Its urgent..... I got the deadline today..... :(
    Thanks in advance.....

  • Apex 2.2 popup lov doesn't return chosen value

    Hey,
    I've built a page within one of my applications in apex 2.2 that has an item based on a Popup LOV. I have a pre-built dynamic LOV.
    When I run the page the popup icon appears and I can launch the popup. The filters work, and the result set appears. However, if I attempt to click on a value, nothing happens. The window remains opened and no value is returned to the parent window. The browser window shows no sign of javascript errors.
    I'm using Theme 11 and the standard popup template.
    I've tried this is a different workspace, using the same lov sql etc, and it works ok!
    I've tried it elsewhere in a new page within my problematic application, and the problem is replicated there too.
    What could be going wrong?
    Cheers,
    John

  • Popup LOV, set value by clicking on a button.

    Hello,
    I have a Popup lov item on customers, and I have a button beside popup too to create new customer. I would like to set the new customer id/name in popup lov, that i have after clicked on new customer button. (from Javascript). With normal select list " $s('P58_COMPANYID', 58)" is working, but with popup lov not.
    What is the problem?
    András

    Hi András,
    are you using APEX 4.0? Because there $s has a third parameter to provide the display value for a "Popup Key LOV". For example
    $s('P58_COMPANYID', 58, 'Superman');Regards

  • Popup LOV Returning Values

    In my entry form I'd like to use the "Popup LOV" to bring the names of employees. I use the following statement:
    SELECT full_name, party_id
    FROM vs_parties
    ORDER BY 1
    Everything seems to be working OK, however, only "party_id" is returned to the form. Is there a way I can hide the ID field and display the related "full_name" only.
    Regards, Tomas

    In order to clear out a Popup Key LOV value it was suggested to ..... Preface the query with [select '-choose option-' a, 0 b from dual union all ...].
    Does anyone know of a fix for this solution if you want to set the value to null? Because as it stands if you use this query and replace "0" with null, the popup key lov actually returns "-choose option-" for both the display value and the actual value. I cannot use the value of "0" so that is why I am needing it to return as null.
    Here is an example I posted up, the field that has the Popup key is "Name" you will see that once you pick "choose option" and save the record that in the report it sets the value of name to "-choose option" instead of null. Once this happens you cannot edit the record unless you do a backend SQL update to set value to null or a anything else.
    Here is the link: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=37103:21
    This is the LOV query used for Name:
    select '-choose option-' a, null b from dual union all select IP a, ip_id b from IP order by a

  • Bold value from popup LOV

    Hi,
    style="font-weight:bold" or class="fielddatabold" in the element's HTML Form Element Attributes work perfectly for the text field. I cannot get the same result for field with disp.value from popup LOV (display value,return key). I can change font family for example, but cannot bold. Any suggestions ?

    Thanks a lot for your answer. I got the same idea, but cannot see any place to manage returned values on this template. Description from pop-up key LOV seems to be turned "disabled", and will get the grey colour on the screen. However, if I will change to Select list, it looks fine.

  • Pass textbox-value to popup LOV

    Hi,
    I have a textbox with a popup-LOV.
    Now I was wondering if it is possible to pass the text, which is written in the textbox (the returning-value textbox - not the textbox at the top of the LOV), to the popup-LOV and filter this LOV by using this text?
    I know that it is possible to search by using the textbox at the top of the LOV, but it would be more userfriendly if both ways are possible.
    Thanks so much,
    Elisabeth

    Hi,
    I tired Benz' way and it works - sometimes. I think there is a problem with the refresh of the Textbox.
    I typed in a value and klicked on the popup-button. Than the whole list occurs. After trying several times (I think in between the textbox kept the value) it worked - so the popup-list was already filtered.
    Now if I want to search for another value, it still keeps the value from before.
    Is this a 'normal' cache-"problem"?

  • PopUp LOV not returning a value

    I have an HTML region containing an item defined as a PopUp Lov. The LOV code is defined local to the item. When I envoke the PopUp LOV I see all the records I expect to but when I click on an option nothing happens..it's as if its frozen! I can close it OK. A normal LOV though works fine.
    I'm using V2.0. any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?
    regards
    Paul P

    You're not going to believe this...talking about a cryptic bug!
    The reason why a value was not returned was because I had an HTML defined checkbox e.g. using the following code
    <form></form><input type="checkbox" name="X5" />
    in a HTML region PRECEDING the region containing the PopUp LOV item. If the region with the PopUp item was moved BEFORE the HTML region containing the non-ApEx checkbox then a value WAS returned from the PopUp LOV. When I removed the html checkbox code everything worked OK.
    How can the existence of a check box affect the functionality of an unrelated item in a different region?
    Explain that one!

  • Theme 23 does not display popup LOV in tabular form

    I created new application using new Theme 23. In tabular form the popup LOV button does not show. While using this theme the column LOV button is soooooo small it is not visible. If I move the cursor on the side of the field eventually I cursor handle will change and I can click and popup LOV will show. When I switch to an older theme (e.g. 21) the LOV button shows just fine.
    Does anyone can offer a solution? Can I expect more this type of problems in the new theme 23?

    I examined exported application file. Indeed the problem is p_column_id parameter. It should be decimal number for translated application. Characters %2C in p_column_id value stands for comma. It should be dot instead. Parameter value should be p_column_id=30289208519476123679.915121.

  • Can you set a large fetch size for the standard popup LOV

    I'm trying to increase the fetch size that the popup LOV uses when I set a LOV up for an attribute.  It seems to have a default of 25.  I don't really have the issue when I'm on a PC, but when we run the app under Safri on an IPAD it will not automatically fetch the next 25 rows when the user scrolls down like it does in IE.  I had the same issue with tables, but I can change the fetch size on the table.  I really need to set the fetch size on the LOV.  ANyone know how to do this?  I don't even care if the setting would be across the board or just specific to one view.

    I'm on 11g.  I'm using input list of values.  I don't want to wait for the whole list since the search could return 1000's of rows.  I like the automatic fetching I get with IE.  The IPAD is the issue.  It does not do an automatic fetch when you scroll to the end.  So, the user is limited to 25 rows no mater what their selection criteria is.  I'd like this to be around 400 if I could get it.

  • How to wrap the text in a popup LOV item ( Apex 4.0 )

    Hi
    I have a popup LOV type item with a very long string value
    I would like to format the item so itr will be shorter but have the string wrap to multiple lines.
    Can you let me know how that can be achieved ?
    thanks
    O

    Hmm.. I don't know about that.
    I actually already managed to change the width of a specific popup element by putting the following in the region footer :
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $x('P3_CONTRACT').style.height="20px";
    </script>
    that works fine and only impacts that specific element.
    However , Since I know next to nothing of HTML and Javascript , I could not figure out the code to put to make the text wrap.
    your solution suggests that it will take care of the width , but will it cause the words to wrap ?
    thanks

  • PopUp LOVs in tabular forms

    Hi,
    I've discovered a problem using Popup LOVs in tabular forms, whereby on selecting a value from the LOV the key value is displayed on the form instead of the display value.
    Having searched this forum it would appear I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem, but I've had no luck in finding an explanation for this behaviour or a solution / workaround.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Andrew.

    A Popup LOV is just a normal Input field with the option to popup another window, select a value and return that value to the field. On the popup window, the "display" value is shown to the user to make it easier to select the right value, but the "return" value is returned to the field as this is the value that needs to be stored on the database.
    As a normal input field, it can only hold and, therefore, display one value.
    Select Lists, on the other hand, store the "return" value but show the "display" value because that is how Select Lists are designed to operate.
    You can show the "display" value in a second field for data that is already on the database by using the "Display as Text (based on LOV, does not save state)", based on the same database column as for the Popup LOV field and using the same LOV table.
    However, the only way to get a "display" value for a new/edited record would be to either submit the page or design your own popup which can pass values back into two fields. Either way, you need two fields.
    Unless someone else has found a way around this?????
    Regards
    Andy
