Popup windows now launch a new tab in the same window

What happened to popup windows? They open in new tabs, which is very annoying. Does anyone know how I can change this?
Thanks!

in my cPanel page, which is the control panel for my internet hosting, there is a place to go in and administer a mySQL database. Once inside that tool, there is a popup window for entering in SQL queries. At one time this would spawn a popup window. Now it simply loads a new tab within the same browser window.

  • How can I make "Open Link in New Tab" open the new tab in the same window, not a different window?

When I Ctrl-click a link and choose "Open Link in New Tab" it chooses to open the new tab in a different window (one that's already open) rather than opening the new tab in the same window. Even though the other window is minimized, it automatically gets restored and placed on top of the window I was in. This interferes with my context, forcing me to minimize the window again to get back to the one I was in before. I want the new tab to open in the same window, so I can still see the tab I was in. Some links seem to have the "Open Link in New Tab" behavior automatically, so I never know when I'm going to get thrown out of my current window. Very annoying.

If you have a mouse with a scroll button then try to middle click the link to open the link in a new tab.
It is also possible that the links use onclick JavaScript instead of a href to specify the action.

  • My safari stopped letting me open a new tab in the same window. what happened and how can I get it back to normal?

When I try and open a new tab in the same window, it wont open a new tab. It leaves the page I am on and goes to the "top sites page."

    Hi,
If you have got to  Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2 and therefore Messages version 7.0.1 then double click the individual chats.
Once they are in separate windows you can chat like that  (That's the way I used to chat - I didn't even use the tabbed chat)
It is impossible to create a separate Chat window each new chat (you have to separate them off from the main window which also keeps a "copy")
New chats are added to the main window even if you have used the red button to hide it. (CMD + 0 from the Window menu brings it back)

  • Why does Firefox keep opening new Windows rather than a new Tab in the current window?

I have " Open a new Tab in the current Window" select in Preferences.
Why then does this version (Version 4) keep opening new Windows, rather than new Tabs in the current Window.
This feature worked fine in 3.6.1.3, but in Version 4, it is a frigging pain in the rigging!
C'mon, Mozilla - time for an URGENT update ...

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

  • Add on for opening new windows in a new tab in the same window

I am using a software that opens the scheduler in a new window. I have in the past had an add on that allowed the new window to open in the original window in a new tab. The add on was lost when i refreshed Fire Fox but I don't remember the name of the add on. Thanks.

Did you check the settings in Options/Preferences > Tabs?

  • Why firefox in my desktop can't open a new tab in the same windows?

I can't open a new tab by clicking the + symbol. I don't know why this happen. If I want to open a new tab, I have to take a right click and then choosing open new tab. I think this is so terrible, I can't access the page on the same windows.

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar'''''. It can cause that problem.

  • A webpage suddenly stops loading and just shows 'connecting...'. Opening new webpages in new tabs in the same window or in a new window gives same problem, while IE does not have any such problem opening the same page simultaneously

this issue is not limited to one website, it seems to be problem with the browser or possibly any plugins but not any specific webpage

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 255 to a setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • Why does ctrl+Left click a link open a new window? It should open a new tab in the current window.

When I try to Ctrl+Left click to open a link in a new tab, it will open it in a new window instead. Then while in the new window if I Ctrl+Left click a link it will open a new tab in the second window. If I then go back to the first Firefox window and Ctrl+Left click a link the second firefox window will pop up and the new tab will be created there. Why won't the Ctrl+Left click work when only one window is open?

  • Opening new tabs makes the browser window wider

when opening a new tab in safari
it makes the browser window bigger (at the bottom)
but not only at the bottom actually
after a few close-open's it also starts growing at the top
and for me it's unacceptable cause there are folders that i need fulltime access to (at the top)
is there a way (a script) to prevent safari "grow" and make the browser window bigger in a while ?
i don't really know why is it happening because if you press cmd+t it opens a new tab and the browser window kinda slides bigger at the bottom but then if you press cmd+w it does the opposite and the browser window stays the same size after those actions
i can't follow but after some time it starts to be bigger not only at the bottom
it grows til the dock and then starts growing at the top
is there a way to prevent that ?
i mean take opera for example. it always stays the same size and new opened tabs take the "inside space" if you know what i mean. the browser window doesn't get bigger. there is space allocated especially for tabs
i like safari but it is very important for me that it stays the same size all the time
i have all windows and folders situated exactly where i want them and if something moves and covers other items, it gets uncomfortable
    thank you

(i have 'secrets' app installed and it makes pop up windows open in the same browser window, so it might be becasue of that)
Yes, it sounds like this is the cause.
Some pop-up window code forces the new window to be a certain size. Since it's intended to open in a new window, that normally wouldn't cause problems. But you're forcing the pop-up to open as a new tab in the current window, which causes the current window to be resized to that new page's defined size.

Have you tried: click Firefox button > New Tab > New Window '''''OR''''' CTRL+N '''''OR''''' File > New Window (if using the Menu Bar)
Once open, Firefox locks the Profile that is in use and you can not open another window with that Firefox version and Profile combination using the Windows Desktop icon or the Windows Programs list.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • Can a site use cookie info from separate Firefox windows, or just between tabs in the same window?

    Hi!
I apologize for how crazy my question sounds,, (& for everything that follows), but I'm at a loss as to the correct wording...I hope my explanation will clarify things, at least enough so that someone understands what I'm trying to say! Wish me luck!
I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 on Windows 8.1 & everything is up to date. The most important details for this problem will be my settings & addons for Firefox, so here goes:
I allow all cookies, but it's set to clear them when Firefox closes.
I do NOT save any history or passwords & I also have "Click & Clean" enabled, & I use it frequently, even though I don't save any history or anything else, just to add to my security/privacy, (guess I didn't use it often enough, huh?)
I have the box checked for "Do Not Track", (but I just learned the hard way that even so-called "nice" companies don't honor this request)
I have "Ghostery" as well as "Google Analytics Opt-out" enabled, (even though I don't use Google for my search engine, nor do I go to a Google site unless it's absolutely necessary, (I read about Google's penchant for following users everywhere in order to get their preferences, so I avoid them if at all possible).
In other words, I thought I was protected from tracking-related problems, but I need to know if these precautions are effective when using Firefox & having several tabs open...then opening another tab/window...are cookies & any other info "readable", (I don't know what word should be used here), from tab to tab in the same window, (which just happened to me), & is the cookie info readable from window to window? In other words, do I have to completely close out Firefox, delete cookies, then open a brand new window so that any session cookie info has been deleted to protect my browsing info from being accessed?
I know, I'm STILL not making much sense...here's what happened, (I won't divulge the site that did the 'cookie abuse', though.
I had several tabs open, as I usually do, because I was gathering info for research on a report I was working on. Suddenly, I remembered I had to order my hubby's birthday gift, so I opened another tab, (in the same window), to my favorite site & started searching for the items I wanted. I found what I was looking for & was getting ready to check out when I noticed something very odd...there were several "suggestions" listed for items I "might be interested in, based on my browsing", but the funny thing was, I didn't search for anything related to these suggested items! Instead, they were related to items in the other tabs I had open. Scary, underhanded stuff, if you ask me! I always knew not to have banking/financial sites open while surfing, but the tabs I had open were from sites where I was getting research info for my report, so no red flags went up when I went to the site to place my order.
So I guess the question I need answered is...is cookie info accessible only between tabs in the same browser window OR is it even accessible from window to window? Did I make sense yet? I sure hope so, because this incident has me absolutely flapping around like a fish that's just been pulled out of the water & is just left on the deck! This obvious assault on my privacy has hit me like a punch in the stomach, because I thought this site was one I could trust...especially since I had "Do Not Track", "Google Analytics Opt-out" & "Ghostery" enabled!
I just don't know how to deal with this, but obviously, I need to know the rules so this NEVER happens again. Luckily, there wasn't any finance-related breach, but my sense of trust has taken a BIG blow.
If this made sense to anyone, please advise me on the rules of 'cookie abuse' so I don't EVER let this happen again!
Also, is cookie info able to be shared between browsers, e.g. use Firefox for more personal/sensitive browsing & Opera for research activity?
Any & all advice is desperately needed & gratefully accepted! I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to anyone else because it really takes the wind out of your trust bubble. I've never been as surprised & disappointed at a company as I am about this. So sad.
Oh well, learn something new every day...too bad I learned not to trust. :(
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Nuts4Mutts :(
P.S. If you need anything clarified, just ask

Cookies are stored in a cookie jar and thus are shared among all open tabs and windows.
Only all Private Browsing mode tabs/windows use a separate cookie jar that is used for all PB mode tabs.
Note that session restore stores cookies of open tabs in the sessionstore.js file as part of stored session data.

  • How to open a new tab with the same current directory in a terminal?

I use the following script to open a new terminal with the same pwd.
I'm wondering how to modify it to open a new tab with the same pwd.
    #!/bin/sh
    # Open a new terminal in the cwd
    CWD=`pwd`
    osascript<<END
    set thePath to "$CWD"
set myPath to (POSIX file thePath as alias)
    try
    tell application "Terminal"
    activate
do script with command "cd \"" & thePath & "\""
    end tell
    end try
    END

bit of a hack, but the make command doesn't seem to work for tabs in terminal. replace what's currently in the 'try' block with this code:
    tell application "Terminal" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Terminal"
    keystroke "t" using command down
    end tell
    end tell
    tell application "Terminal"
do script "cd " & (quoted form of thePath) in last tab of window 1
    end tell
