Popups in a quicktime vr movie?

Does anyone know how to embed the code to open a popup in a vr movie?
So far, i've attached some javascript to a hotspot in the movie, but it's not working, allthough the same code behind a simple text-link does work.
I have two test-files with some links in it:
http://www.saturnia.eu/leuven/ne/panos/test.html
http://www.saturnia.eu/leuven/ne/panos/onthaal-test.html
(Feel free to check out the code if you want)
Is there another method - besides javascript - to open a popup-window from within a quicktime vr movie?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the discussions, Wannes Daemen.
The ability of QuickTime to call javascript was changed in the most recent version. You can't use javascript to open windows in this way anymore. I don't have much experience with what you're trying to do, but if I can find a non-javascript example of opening a new window, I'll post back.
BTW, this is the kind of thing that can no longer work with the most recent versions of QuickTime.

  • Quicktime video (.mov file) will not load and play in Firefox 3.6.16

I have a computer with Firefox 3.6.16 installed that will not play Quicktime videos (.mov files) in the browser. This is a desktop computer.
Another computer (laptop) with exactly the same version of Firefox installed will load and play them perfectly in the Quicktime player.
Both computers have Quicktime addin 7.6.9.0 installed and designated as the default application for Quicktime movies.
Both computers play the videos correctly in IE 8.
When attempting to play the video in Firefox, the player window opens and attempts to load the video, but soon seems to freeze leaving a black window open where the player should be.
From what I have observed, this seems to be a problem related specifically to this computer, and since the video plays in IE I have ruled out the firewall blocking loading from the site.

Hi, I've exactly the same problem, 'cept I've XP Pro. When I say exactly, I mean the format used is HDV 1080i60, along with everything else there.
And I'm right there with you. Why Quicktime can't play a natively encoded HDV Quicktime file (using Final Cut Pro), is beyond me, but basically, I've used K-Lite Codec Pack, and Quicktime. Neither work, although Quicktime does ask for internet connectivity to download resources or something similar (I don't have Internet Access at home). I've used VLC on a friend's PC, and, while it works, there is a very strange, and irritating flicker where there's heavy movement
Where can I get the resource needed, as another party needs to view the clip, and they already have it. So if they can update their codec library or similar, then that would be much better (as I wouldn't need to upload a FullHD Video again)
    thanks

  • Aspect ratio, quicktime reference movie

Hi, I'm trying to compress my movie edited in 1080i HDV to the h.264 Sequence iPod video 640x480.
I've done this many many times exporting directly from FCP to compressor and it usually works.. But I have read (here and other places) that it is better to
    1. make a quicktime reference movie
    2. open that in compressor..
    3. render (compress) into the correct format
When I do that it messes up the aspect ratio (making it even wider) any suggestions?
    J

When converting like you did in the past, (where it changed the aspect of your image) did you go into the geometry controls of compressor and also select the proper aspect, found in the Frame Size controls.
If you fail to do this, you would end up with the wrong aspect being applied. You may also have to pad your video, using the "Output Image Inset (Padding) controls as well to maintain your 16x9 aspect on a 4x3 aspect.

  • I cannot import a Quicktime file (.mov) which I generated from a slide show out of iPhoto8 in iMovie8 (filename is grey); what did I wrong?

I cannot import a Quicktime file (.mov) which I generated from a slide show out of iPhoto8 in iMovie8 (filename is grey); what did I wrong?

iMovie 08 will only import files that contain codecs that it can edit. It will generally import audio and video codecs that iPhoto generates. However, if your iPhoto slideshow contains a manual advance track, iMovie cannot edit this and therefore will not import. In iPhoto, check to see if you can do a timed advance rather than a manual advance. Then it should import.

  • Quicktime Interactive Movie Mouse Control

I have a quicktime interactive movie saved from keynote with chapters added in.
The file pays full screen but at 800x600 screen resolution, the mouse left click button is not advancing the presentation. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 the mouse works again. What is the relationship between resolution and mouse control and how do I get it to work at 800x600?

    Tristan,
As Rick indicated in his post, the answer lies in "manually"
pausing the slides by inserting click boxes or buttons. I just
wanted to add that if you have already recorded your movies and did
not use Simulation mode, you can still easily insert a click box on
    each slide to pause them.
    1. On the first slide, insert a click box and set the options
as you desire (turning off success/failure captions for
instance...just don't uncheck the Pause movie until user clicks
option, otherwise you will change the "nature" of the object that
    Rick was referring to.)
    2. Size the click box to as small as possible and place it in
an out of the way location on the slide. (We often hide it under
another object if it does not need to be clicked such as when used
in conjunction with the auto playback controls.)
    3. Copy the click box
    4. On the filmstrip view, highlight all slides that you want
    the movie to pause
    5. Right Click on any one of the highlighted slides in the
filmstrip view and select Paste Object
This will paste a copy of your click box in the same location
on all slides with the same settings as your original.

  • QuickTime Interactive Movie Playback Controls

When playing Quicktime interactive movies as slide shows full screen, are there any navigation options while remaining in full screen? I want to be able to jump to other parts of the presentation without existing full screen.

If your movie has chapter markers in it and you're close to the end, the fastest way is to just hit the jump to next marker button (the right button on the click wheel, the fast forward with a line button) to get to the end of the movie. The movie will then stop playing and return you to the last menu you were in. When you go back to the movie, it will restart at the beginning.
If it doesn't have chapter markers, the left click wheel button will take you back to the beginning (well, actually, it will take you back to the last menu you were in before playing the movie, but the movie will restart back at the beginning the next time you play it).
P.S. There's no such thing as a stupid question. Not everything is as obvious as Apple thinks it is. And that is exactly what this forum is for. Heck, I've been a Mac user since 1987 and it took me a couple of days to figure out how to actually turn off my 4G iPod when I first got it. (Hmmm, put it to sleep and lock the controls, with the "hold" switch. Yah, that's obvious.)

Have you installed the quicktime software from Apple? There are other players that may also have the required codecs to play the video.
That is what is required in order to play a quicktime movie.

  • Quicktime Pro: movie from stills, movie size

    Hello all,
I am planning to buy QT Pro, and have 2 questions about it:
    1. I want to convert my DVDs (music concerts) to QT so that I can organize them in iTunes and watch without having DVDs. What will be the size of a QT file converted from a 2 hr concert, with acceptable quality?
    2. I am doing some modeling (finite element) and am not sure if the PC software can make animations. I was thinking of taking the stills from the results and make a movie in Quicktime, for my Keynote presentation. Can Quicktime make movie from stills? . I know it can do slideshow but this would be like a slideshow changing images every .25 second or even faster. Do you have any other suggestions in this regard?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alpesh

You'll need some third party software for your MPEG-2 (DVD format). I use HandBrake (free). It allows you to set movie dimensions and compression to a "fixed" (you control) file size.
QuickTime Pro can import image sequences. You can set the frame rate at import from 60 frames a second up to ten seconds per frame.
You can even add audio or export these image sequence movies to DV Stream for use in iMovie or iDVD.

how long will quicktime pro movie record? i'm would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip. dont want to purchase if there a limit to recording time. thanks. owen

I'd suggest you ask this question in the QuickTime for Mac forum. QuickTime for Windows doesn't have the video capture feature, so this probably isn't the best place for you to get a quick answer.
    Regards.

how long will quicktime pro movie record?
That depends. How much free space do you have available on a single drive? Which compression format do you plan to use? How fast is your CPU. Barring the unexpected, QT 7 Pro will record until it runs out of scratch space. Frame rates are dependent on your CPU power which means newer, more powerful platforms record more frames per second and thus tend to have higher data rates up to the max standard for the system. Lastly, the compression format/device type/device capture size/graphic complexity combination also determines the average data rate. So, as long as the average data rate times the duration of the clip is less than the amount of free space available on your hard drive, you can record continuously.
i would like to record a 10+min onscreen movie clip.
If by "oncscreen" movie you are referring to a "screen capture" of a movie, the QT 7 Pro will not do this. You either need to use a third-party screen capture application or upgrade to Snow Leopard for QT X "screen capture" capabilities.

  • Where should I maintain my QuickTime VR movies? Aperture? iTunes? iPhoto? xyz?

I used to maintain all my movies from my digital camera with iPhoto. Now I switched to Aperture only to find that Aperture won't support QuickTime VR movies.
Now: I tried iTunes but I failed as well..
shall I resort (only for those VR movies) back to iPhoto? (yuck..)
    any other suggestion?
    thanks
    Michael

    any other suggestion?
The choice is yours.  Just be aware that playback compatibility requires the older QT 7 support routines. This means that only specific apps (like the QT 7 Player or MPEG Streamclip can actually play them or apps that tap into these players or automatically pass the VR files to these players). I personally keep the files in a VR folder and play them directly in the QT 7 Player.

  • Firefox 3: QuickTime Poster Movie does not load QT media file when clicked

I have a video podcast website (thomasbrin.com) that uses the the Apple-provided JavaScript utility and the QTWriteOBJECTXHTML function call on each of my podcast episode webpages to automatically generate the proper object and embed tags. The page loads with a poster movie which, when a user clicks on, should connect to the podcast media file and begin playback.
This coding technique works fine in Safari and IE but fails in Firefox. Instead, when a user clicks on the poster movie, nothing happens. No errors are generated, the webpage just remains unchanged.
This issue came to my attention from a viewer of my video podcast. I loaded Firefox 3 and am having the same issue my viewer reported.
You can visit this page to see the issue directly: http://www.thomasbrin.com/GOT3mov.html Load the page in Firefox 3 and click on the poster movie.
I've verified that on my system the QuickTime plugin is properly installed and Javascirpt is enabled in Firefox.
I have searched the Firefox and Apple support forums but have come up empty. Any ideas?

Okay, problem solved. And, of course, it was a very simple solution.
Baby Boomer, if you read this post would you please retest this page (http://www.thomasbrin.com/GOT3mov.html) in Camino and let me know if it works for you now.
The issue with the Camino browser got me thinking about the differences between the Gecko rendering engine (used by Firefox, Camino, SeaMonkey, and more) and the WebKit rendering engine used by Safari. I realized that Safari may be better at inferring MIME types than Firefox et al. In other words, since the target file in my Javascript script is clearly a QuickTime file (it has a .mov extension after all), Safari implicitly assumes the correct MIME type. On the other hand, Gecko-based browsers may be more strict and require an explicit reference to a MIME type for certain media files (like QuickTime) to load properly.
So, all I did was add an attribute pair to my script that declares the proper media MIME type and it works.
Here's my old script (without the script tags):
    QTWriteOBJECTXHTML('BrinPoster2.jpg','640','376','',
    'HREF','http://www.thomasbrin.com/QTEncodings/GOT3NS.mov',
    'TARGET','myself',
    'CONTROLLER','False');
Here's my new script (without the script tags):
    QTWriteOBJECTXHTML('BrinPoster2.jpg','640','376','',
    'HREF','http://www.thomasbrin.com/QTEncodings/GOT3NS.mov',
    'TARGET','myself',
    'TYPE','video/quicktime',
    'CONTROLLER','False');
The explicit MIME type made the difference.

  • Quicktime Slideshow Movie Won't Play Music

I created a slideshow using my iPhoto 5.0.4 then exported it to a movie as Quicktime, with music. It plays beautifully on my machine. I burned it to a CD and sent it to someone with the identical Mac (a PowerBook G4) and he couldn't play it on his SAME version of QuickTime. As he explained it, his Apple kept sending him to iTunes to search for the music, which it claimed it couldn't find even in the Music Store (odd, since I bought the music from my Music Store).
Similarly, another person trying to view the same Quicktime movie on a PC, using a freshly downloaded of version of Quicktime, reported that the slideshow played but with NO music.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
    Anne

Thanks for the explanations. I am trying to get my brain around the notion that if I had a CD of my own downloaded to iTunes, I could make all the copies I wanted and use them however I wanted, but a legally purchased song that iPhoto has no objection to my exporting to a QT movie is outside the rules!
That said, the explanation makes technical sense to me, so thanks!
