Popups on firefox not being blocked

Last week I had a problem accessing my earthlink webmail with random popups on my vista desktop. Did a system restore and then accessed the same webmail from my xp laptop without problem. System restore fixed the desktop problem until this morning. Now I get the same problem on both my desktop and laptop machines. Had earthlink support connect to my computer to check the problem and it appears that firefox has been corrupted. The popup blocker has apparently been bypassed and ramdom popups redirect me away from the webmail. Accessing via internet explorer had no such issue. Before contacting earthlink, I did a system restore to a point where the system was not showing popups but the problem remained.
IE does seem to have speed issues accessing the webmail but at least I don't get the popups that have returned to plague use of firefox on that site. I had an older version of firefox on the laptop and updated ti ver 31 and still have the popup issue so am at a loss to understand what happened.

It is possible that there is something in the profile that is bypassing the popup blocker. It is possible to do a Firefox Reset from the about:support page.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
For Firefox 29.0 and above:
#Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox". Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

• PDF popup, in FireFox, without being prompted

Hello, I am using Windows XP Pro, SP3, fully patched and updated. My Adobe Reader is version 9.5.0. I am currently using FireFox 3.6.25, but this problem has been affecting my computer for the last year and a half, and happens with newer versions of FireFox, up to and including version 8. I downloaded a PDF file of an air compressor users manual and saved a copy to a folder on my desktop (where I store all of my PDF files).
Now, whenever my FireFox browser is up and running, this PDF file will pop up every three hours, or so. It will initially pop up about ten minutes after the browser is started, and then about three hours after I close the reader program. It, neither the file, nor Adobe Reader, asks for permission to run, the PDF file, just comes up fully formed and running in Reader.
I have search in my Reader preferences/options/setting and can’t find any setting, control, action, button or choice that allows me to stop this pop up behavior. I can move the file to another location on my “c” drive, move it to another hard drive altogether, or even rename it, all to no avail, the popup behavior remains.
Is this a Adobe “problem”, or setting, a FireFox problem (as it only happens when the FireFox browser is running), or something else I am not aware off? Thanks for any help, in advance!!

Hello Ankit, and thanks for help:
This behavior only happens with this one PDF, no others, and I have hundreds saved to the same folder.
Speak of the devil, as I was typing the first sentence of this email, it popped up. My FireFox browser is set to start when I boot my computer, and that happened about ten minutes ago.
I rarely use IE and never use any other browser. When I do use IE it is only for those websites that still don't function properly with FireFox, and I generally get there via a FireFox add-on that opens a version of IE within the FireFox browser. Also on rare occasions, I will open IE directly to view my daughters school grades, again because that website doesn't handle FireFox properly. In any case, whenever I use IE, I only keep that tab or browser running for a very short period of time, just long enough to capture my data needs, generally less than five minutes, then shut it down,........ But, I don't recall this PDF behavior ever happening with the IE usage.

If there is information I can pass on to you manually, or if I can contact you when the behavior happens, that would be OK.
Thanks again for your help.

• HT5568 cookies are not being blocked

This ***** so bad, the cookies on Safari are not being blocked on my Mac Lion 10. 7.5? What's going on. I can be on for 2 minutes and not visit a website but still have 45 cookies including one saved to my local cache. I though Macs were supposed to be better than this.

Do you have a question?
If it's about blocking cookies, then may I assume you have disabled all cookies via Safari preferences; that the browser is set to block cookies always?
If you're concerned about tracking (I don't know why you're asking about cookies), you could choose to enable and use Private Browsing option.
Realize too that there are other and very effective ways to track clients without cookies; whether using Flash Cookies or so-called super-cookies or via EFF's Panopticlick techniques.

• Dropbox uploads not being blocked as configured...

We are working to loosen up some of our policies regarding file transfer sites, and for DropBox, I can consistently use the default (flash-based, I think) file uploader, and I can upload to my heart's content, even though I have specified that file uploads are to be blocked.  If I use the basic uploader, Ironport blocks the file upload.
Can someone replicate this to confirm, or am I doing something incorrectly?  Not being able to block file uploads is a very big deal, and is very concerning if Ironport is not blocking the traffic/actions that have been set on it.
Thanks!
Mike C

Michael,
How big are the files you are testing with?  An upload is governed by Ironport Data Security Policies.  By default, uploads smaller than 4096 bytes will not be looked at.
You can reduce the minimum size in the CLI using the command 'datasecurityconfig'.
Don't forget to 'commit' the changes after you are done.

• Popups are not being blocked

Popups are redicuolously coming up now, and yes I have "Block popups" checked

Could be caused by malware on your system. See - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware
Other-
You need to update "Shockwave for Director" (aka Shockwave Player, not Flash)

• How can I stop getting the error message of firefox not being permitted into a website?

Okay so yesterday while on my school site trying to do work and access my course, this error message popped up saying either my internet connection is not good, which it is working, or that the website is busy but it wasn't so it had to be with my firewall and firefox. So I went to firefox website to see if I can fix it, I did what they said to do and to remove firefox from the list of programs I'm allowing in and then to allow it back in. And it didn't work. So i updated firefox and it worked perfectly.
Until today, I tried to access my course and it popped up with the same message. So I tried to do what I did yesterday with removing it from the list and allowing it back in but it didn't work. And firefox is up to date so I honestly don't know what else to do. Can you help?

Sounds like you were 'fixing' the firewall for Firefox access. If Firefox is working everywhere except your school website, I doubt if your issue is with the firewall.
Please provide a screenshot of that error message.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem
It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.
Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

• An error causes firefox not being able to open last session

Off some reason Firefox wont restore last session. The opportunity in Firefox/Google startsite malfunctions of some reason not giving the possibility to restart last session.

To add to what madperson said, see the Session Restore article under Troubleshooting and make sure that your Firefox privacy settings are correct, so that your browsing history is saved. <del>If that's not the problem:</del>
<del>You said "an error". Could you be more specific? Do you see the "Restore previous session" button on the default Firefox home page (shown here), which means you had tabs and windows open when you last closed Firefox, but clicking it doesn't work? A possible cause of that is a file in your Firefox profile folder is corrupt (bug 682944). You can open the Firefox profile folder from the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page, then close Firefox and delete this file, to see if it helps: chromeappstore.sqlite</del>
Never mind. I see you solved the problem.

• New breed of pop-ups not being blocked?

Websites are using some sort of pop-up that doesn't get blocked like the normal ad type pop-up? Usually the pop-up ask some sort of question when you first visit the site(i.e. would you like to sign up for our news letter, etc..) . These pop-ups are annoying because you have to close them before you can see the page contents you are visiting. Yahoo mail uses one of theses pop-ups when you log out of your email asking you to make yahoo.com your home page.
I've noticed that these pop-ups are becoming more frequent and more websites are using them. BigFishgames.com just popped one at me about a new game they've added.
I am getting tired of having to close these pop-ups all the time!
Does any one know how to stop them?

See if anything here helps you. <br />

In my new Macbook pro firefox does not block the chrome pop-up advertisement on the google.com.au page.

The malware software suggested in the previous reply is for windows only not for Macs. My problem is the chrome pop-up advert in google.com.au is NOT being blocked by firefox. I have no such problem with my windows computer!

• Google and all of its related services are not showing as a secure and pictures are being blocked.

I was forced to add manual exception to even use Google search AND Google email but pictures are still being blocked in Google search. The first 12 pictures will show but the rest only reflect a broken square in the top left corner of where the image preview should be. When I click on the blanks- it shows the picture but I can't work efficiently that way. How do I remove the block on images until the issue can be corrected in another update?
Google Chrome was doing the same thing (blocking images from trusted MAJOR sites like Facebook and Twitter but considering its own material secure). Chrome did not allow a user to control if the images could show and I switched to Firefox as a result. Please fix this. Thanks!

All I had to do was update my clock time and it fixed the issue. My clock was showing December 6, 2014 as the date. Sorry. You can consider this resolved, Thank you!

• Why did Mozilla block Personas after upgrading to 3.6.9 on one computer but none of the others? A warning box came up stating that Personas was causing instability or security problems and was being blocked and would be disabled when Firefox restarted.

I am not typing this on the computer on which I experienced the problem. Consequently, the list of plug-ins noted under the list of additional system details here is incorrect. I am running Firefox 3.6.9 on all three of my computers. The netbook on which this occurred is running Windows 7 Starter. Both other computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium.

It is not Personas that are being blocked, it is version 1.6 of the Personas Plus add-on that has been blocked as it was casuing many problems. You can still use Personas without that add-on. If you want the add-on, you can install version 1.6.1 which has fixed the bug in 1.6, available from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10900/

• I am being blocked from my "favorites"on my iPad 2 with the following....... You are not authorized to open this file. What do I need to do

I'm being blocked from my favorites on my iPad 2 with the following........... You are not authorized to open this file. What do I do?

I'm not sure whether you have tried the "usual" things:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
* Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* classic Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?

• ITunes proxy authorisation window does not appear (and account is being blocked randomly)

Many users have iTunes installed on their PC. iTunes requires proxy authorization to connect to internet. Appropriate popup window appears when opening iTunes and trying to open some internet-based page there. Entering current AD account credentials helps to connect. There is also a checkmark there allowinf to save credentials for further use (and do not show this window anymore). When AD password is changed - this popup window does not appear again and user's account is being blocked (because iTunes tries to connect proxy with old credentials). The question is: is it possible to reset proxy settings, stored somewhere inside iTunes somehow? Just to return proxy authorization window back. Did you have such an experience? If you caould share any knowledge - it would be great.

What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?
You could try a reinstall of iTunes. OS X Yosemite: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac
