PopUps open in new tab?

Is there anyway you can have pop ups open in another tab rather than a new window?
Like FF2 every link that is a pop up just opens up in a new tab rather than a new window like in Safari.
Have i missed a setting or can it not be done?

In Safari, Command-clicking on a link will open most links in new tabs, even when the web page has the link coded to open in a new window.
But some JavaScript used to open links in new windows overrides that behavior in Safari, forcing the links to open in a new page even when you Command-click. In those cases, Starman's solution is your next option.

  • Javascript popups open in new tab

I'm finding that links that used to open in javascript-controlled sized popup windows now open as a new tab. Sometimes this is nice, but most of the time it's frustrating.
    Is this a setting somewhere?

    I agree, what's with this?

  • Getting popups in Firefox every time I open a new tab, usually with some relvance to past browsing content

Some are for Walmart, some are for Best Buy, and lots of others I can't remember exactly what they were. A few seconds after I open a new tab, an audio message will begin to play, followed by a popup window that is a sales pitch.

  • How do I re-order popup-menu (open in new tab to the top)

Popup-menu is reordered to have share-option at the top in the new version of android browser.
How do I change the open in new tab-option to be the topmost option?

    Hi mtolvane,
Currently in the customize options of Firefox for Android, this is not a feature. I would recommend requesting the feature in a bug.
    [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1025326] I filed this bug.

  • When I open a new tab it opens in the wrong window

I have 3 or 4 windows containing lots of relevant tabs open at all times. Helps me organize my work stuff. All of a sudden today if I try to open a new tab in one window it opens in another window. Incredibly irritating and will be a huge problem when I'm back to work tomorrow morning. Can anybody help?

You may be working in a ''dialog window''.
Starting in Firefox 4, it is intended behavior that a dialog window not be able to have new tabs. However, the developers may have applied this principle to too many styles of windows merely because the window is "small."
To open a new "normal" window, you can press Ctrl+n or use File > New Window.
A bug already has been filed (many, actually) complaining about this change, and suggesting some tweaks to this feature so that it only affects popups which were truly intended to behave like dialogs.
Current functionality: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606678 Bug 606678 "Open Link in New Tab" shouldn't add tabs to popups]
Requested change: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=644729 Bug 644729 – Popup window with all toolbars visible causes new tabs to open in another browser window]
Because posts on a bug get sent to everyone on a long mailing list, it is considered poor etiquette (spamming) to add "me too" comments to a bug. However, you can "vote" for a bug to get fixed, so it might be worth registering on Bugzilla to do that if you are affected by this on a day-to-day basis.
As a temporary workaround, I created a Greasemonkey userscript. It adds a button to pages detected to be in a dialog window so you can reload them in a regular window. As a 0.1 version it's not perfect, but if you run into this problem frequently, hopefully it will help.

  • Hello, my Macbook Pro 13.5'', version 10.9.2, was recently invaded by what I believe is a virus, and when I open a new tab or window on chrome it would open with the Trovi search engine.

I read online to reset the default settings on chrome and when i did that the problem seemed to all but go away. But then, not even an hour later, i notice that there are random ads that popup and sometimes ads will just open in new tabs. I know that this is a virus and i really want to get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IUploader (Recession Apps) - opening a new tab (window)

I've been trying to develop a method for our EMS providers to use iPads to fill out EMS Charts and get signature forms using the iPad.  PDFExpert and iUploader are the two main pieces that seem to be working for my solution ... but there is one glitch:
When using iUploader, and using the web app EMSCharts (or any web app that causes a new target window to load) this target just loads within the page itself.  So, if I am trying to add information that would be available from a search in the popup ... this page (target window) replaces the page I was originally on.  Frustrating.  I am trying to prefill some patient data from a database.
I can get the target windows (new tabs) to work with Safari on the iPad and Safari would be great if it allowed me to attach PDF files (which is why I am using iUploader).
I just need the popup capability and I would be all set.  If I click a link, I need the funcationality there to open a new tab.
Any clues about this functionality Recession apps??   I've used the Pro and regular versions and have not noticed a difference.
    Thank you
    Diana

For the record, the page that needs to open in a new tab is a Cold Fusion *cfm file
Not even sure who uses that any more??
Here is what an example link looks like:

  • Video thumbnail opens in new tab automatically

When visiting some websites with video thumbnails, including Google Mail and Startribune.com, Firefox will sporadically open a new tab with the video thumbnail.
This happens as a new Gmail message or as the website loads. It happens in safe mode as well as with extensions enabled. The problem cannot be reliably replicated even with identical URLs.
This is the link to a Youtube video that opens automatically when sent in a Gmail message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzlhBU4nkQw&feature=player_profilepage
The tab that opens is not the actual Youtube video page, but rather a link that starts with https://nl3atn8402ncgahndqn8rb6qi2ld2g5a-a-gm-opensocial.googleusercontent.com/gadgets/ifr?url=
On the page is just the thumbnail-sized video.

Do you use  earthlink  (esp webmail)?  I figured out that it is a problem with  an ad they are running.   At least that's what it was for me.  If you log completely out of webmail and shut safari down and restart it without going to earthlink webmail, the teebik popups do not come back (even with a lot of browsing to multiple other sites).
I installed the adblocker extension and so far that is taking care of it -- was able to turn things back on to get webmail functionallity back, without the teebik ads.
Not sure that's what Earthlink WANTED me to do -- as I no longer see ANY earthlink ads -- but hey, it got rid of the teebik stuff they were forcing on me.

  • When clicking on links that open in a new window, the links don't open and Firefox freezes in a way. I can navigate the page I am on but cannot click to open a new tab or bookmark.

When navigating the internet, if I come across a web page that has a link to open a picture or program in a new window, if I click on it, it does not open. Firefox immediately looses functionality in that I cannot open a new tab with the mouse wheel, right click to open a new tab, or use my bookmarks in either the drop down or toolbar to navigate away. I can usually still navigate the page that I am on, for example, (https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp), when it freezes I cannot click on any of the content at the center of the page but I can still use the links from the list on the far left. For an example of the pictures, (http://www.insect-sale.com/), if you click on "New Arrivals" at the top of the page it takes you to a list of products that can only be viewed by clicking on them. Usually a picture of the item would open in a small window but it does not and Firefox freezes. This has also happen when I try a view a degree audit on a school's website where a program would usually open in a new window. The only thing I have been able to find that still functions properly when this happens is the home page button. I can click on it or use the wheel to open it in a tab just fine, but if I try and go anywhere else I cannot. The only way I can get Firefox back to normal is to use the Task Manager and end the process. Another thing I have noticed, that may or may not be related; is that my Norton Internet Security toolbar, that should show up below the bookmarks toolbar and above the tabs, only shows up about 1 out of every 10 times I open Firefox. Some days it doesn't show up at all. If it does show up and I log into Identity Safe, the autofill for the programed website works, even if the toolbar doesn't show up the next time I open Firefox.

    Go to Tools->Options->Apps
Here you should see two columns: Content Type on the left, Actions on the right.
Find and select excel spreadsheet or any other content type in the left column. There should be a corresponding action in the right column. What is it? You can use the drop-down list to select the option you want:
Always Ask - Firefox will ask each time: What do you want to do with this file?
Save file - Firefox will save this file to your computer
Use - Firefox will give this file to the program to open it
In case of saving, Firefox will either prompt you every time where you want the file to be saved, or save it to the default location. It depends on the preference in
    Tools->Options->General->Download

  • I would like to be able to start typing a URL directly (with no need to clear the field first) after opening a new tab with my homepage...

I've just installed the newest desktop version of the Firefox browser because my Opera doesn't feel very well these days. I'm trying to become friends with Firefox, and that's why I've changed the new tab settings in order to have my offline homepage loaded every time I open a new tab. There is an inconvenience — when I press Ctrl+T, the cursor appears at the end of the URL. It means that when I start typing, the letters show in the address bar after the URL of my homepage, so what I need is to clear the field first.
Is there a way to get rid of this? (If it helpes, I'm currently using Windows 7.)
I would appreciate if I could just press Ctrl+T, type a URL, and press Enter when I want to go to a website different from my homepage. Thank you for your replies!

Then you can use (Ctrl+L and) Ctrl+A to select all the text in the location bar or Shift+Home/End.

  • Create Hyperlinks that open in new tab or window?!

    Hello,
Ok, so, this has been asked other times for many versions of InDesign and most common response is to do it in Acrobat Pro. WHY?!!!! I couldn't even easily figure out how to do it there and frankly, don't want to. That seems so backwards and tedious to have to do...seriously. How is this not an option in InDesign Hyperlink edit creation/options yet?!! It is SO simple. Please tell me I'm missing something... I love Adobe products and especially CC products that are getting better and more time saving...but this is so dumb, I'm sorry. I'm no smarty software engineer but I know what user friendly is and how things should work for everyone...and it seems like an easy thing to make possible. Many people create PDF's in InDesign for viewing/downloading in a browser and this needs to be an option with-in InDesign CC. Simple as that. When the PDF is opened in Acrobat the links do open in new tab/window but NOT when it is viewed in a browser. This is why I should or maybe shouldn't work for Adobe, I wouldn't let little things like this, that actually makes a big difference in user experience, go unnoticed and unchanged over so many new releases and updates...or ever be taken away. I guess I'll put in an InDesign CC features request...
Thanks to anyone who agrees and relays...or lets me know I'm missing something.
    Andy

I would also like a solution to this problem. It seems to have been around for quite a while.

  • Is there a way to bring back the "Open a New Tab" option via right-clicking on the Tab?

I just upgraded to latest version of Firefox (6.0). Yesterday it informed me that an upgrade to Firefox 5.(something) was available and asked if I wanted to upgrade. I went for it. However, I hadn't used it since then till today. Now when I opened it today it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to version 6.0. Without hesitation, I went for it too.
While this version looks nice, it feels a bit odd to use it. Previously whenever I wanted to open a new Tab, I right-clicked on any of the Tabs (active tab or any other Tab) and after right-clicking, it had the option to '''''Open a New Tab''''' along with few other options. Now there's no such option. There's the + button to open a new tab, but what if I want to open a link in a new tab by right-clicking on it? Similarly the option to Open in New Window is also missing.
Is there a way to bring back those previous Tab options/settings? If yes, how?
P.S. In my bookmark toolbar, when I click on a bookmark icon, it has the same options/settings as it previously had in the last version I used (last version I used was 3.something; while I'd upgraded to version 5.something I hadn't used it except for opening the browser when it asked me to upgrade to version 6.0). Options on right clicking the bookmark icon are:
    Open
    New Bookmark...
    New Folder...
    New Separator
    Cut
    Copy
    Paste
    Delete
    Properties
I'd also like to mention here that I know of the shortcut keys; so please don't waste your time by trying to help me that way. Thanks.

No. The Tab bar is a regular toolbar in current Firefox versions, so you get the normal right-click context menu of a toolbar if you right-click the tab bar.
You can double click on empty space on the tab bar to open a new tab if you do not want to use the new tab button.<br />
You can drag a link on that new tab button to open that link in a new tab.<br />
You can also drag the new tab button on another toolbar if you would like that better.<br />
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"<br />

  • How do I change the tab setting so that when I open a new tab it does not leave the current tab view?

Up until the other day, opening a link in a new tab via right click created the new tab but did not change my view to that new tab. However, since yesterday opening any new tab changes my view from the page I was browsing on to the new tab. Although it seems minor, this seriously negatively impacts the way I browse. Is there any way to change it back? I do not see it within the settings.

Tools > Options > Tabs - is the last preference there check-marked??

  • Why does Yahoo Search appear when I open a new tab, when Google is my default homepage?

Ever since I upgraded to 4.0, when I open a new tab the yahoo search page appears, but my homepage is www.google.com.
I have three tabs open at all times on my main foxfire window and always ask to restore them: Yahoo mail (my account), www.imdb.com, and http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/. Anytime I open a new tab http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears, but my default homepage is set to www.google.com.
Interestingly, when I open a new window for firefox my default homepage of www.google.com appears, but http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears when I open new tabs.
    Why????
Very annoying, but the highest of priorities.
    Thanks.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Each time I click the "Open a New Tab" button, how do I make FF open to my homepage and why isn't this default behavior?

Firefox does not default to your homepage when you manually open a new tab. It should do so.
Is there a way to make FF do this? Is it an addon? If so, should this not be default behavior and just be incorporated into the browser?

    # Type ''about:config'' in Firefox's location bar
    # Find ''browser.newtab.url''
    # Double click on it
    # Paste your homepage link into the text box
    # Click ''Ok''
