Port 445 NOT Open BIG PIC

Here is one that will make you pull your hair out.
T61p installed and worked perfectly for 2 months. Then one day, could not see the T61p from my desktop XP PC. After weeks of troubleshooting with serveral different "experts", it came down to this:
In Network Sharing Centre - Sharing & Discovery, all but the last 2 items are turned on.
When you select View Status of the Local Area Connection, click the Properties button , File & Print sharing for Microsoft Networks is NOT checked. Thus port 445 is NOT open. Thus other computers on local network CANNOT see the Vista PC. If you check the item, port 445 opens and all is well again in Netowrk land.
The problem is:
Everytime I boot the PC, why is File & Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks NOT checked?
Some very bright minds have not been able to solve this yet. But please, give it a go if you think you understand the intricacies of Vista networking. The only answer I have found so far ... the usual last resort with Microsoft OS's ... clean install ... AGAIN!
Thanks.

Sounds like the "Local Area Connection" you are using has lost it's BIND to file and print sharing.
Vista >
When you open network connections in your Control Panel (I'm using classic view btw) > open the icon "Network and Sharing Center" >  then click in the left menu of that window "Manage Network Connections"
It will bring up the window with the old style box with all your network connections on your computer.
then follow this image attached to set the BINDING for file and print sharing on the matching local area connection that you use in your network.    Just check the boxes for "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
Also, sometimes Vista gets confused if you move your laptop around like I do from Home to Work and both have DHCP assigned addresses, sometimes it sets the connection to "Private Network" for the new DHCP address it aquires and then your can't see it.   It should be set to PUBLIC for other machines to see it also.
Change that in your "Network and Sharing Center"

Warning SYSTEM's UDP port 445 is not open or listening.
Based on your description, I’m a little confused with this issue. Please run following commands with administrator
permission and monitor the result. Would you please check and confirm whether any process listened the UDP port 445?
    netstat –ab
    netstat -a | find /i "445"
In addition, I noticed that you use Syshelp (Symantec validation tool) to check. I suggest that you would post
the warning message in Symantec Forum and confirm this issue. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Tethering blackberry Pearl 9105 to PC running Windows 7 - error message that " the specified port is not open "

I am trying to tether my Blackberry Pearl to my PC using Blackberry Desktop Manager.  The phone is recognised and connected. I choose the Vodaphone Contract connection profile but keep getting a message that "the specified port is not open".  The RIM virtual modem ports used are COM3 and COM4 and my modem is configurred as COM 3 ,
Is there a port conflict with something on my PC ? or something that I can do to force a port open ?

    Hi Don,
I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.

  • Can only port forward port 80, other ports does not open.

I am trying to open three ports on my AE (7.6.1), but the only port that actually opens (if set) is port 80.
    - The Airport Extreme is the router and no additional router is in place
    - I have given the three cameras (that I want to access from Internet) static IP
    - I have trired to open three ports for those (45101, 45102, 45103)
None of above ports open, but if I change one port to 80, that port opens and one camera can work. This is really strange and any suggestions or help is much appreciated!

As you don't want to use the modem as router I would recommend to reconfigure your modem into "bridge" mode. In bridge mode it works like a simple modem. You then have to configure your WRT for your internet connection (usually PPPoE for DSL or DHCP for cable). With this setup, you don't have these chained routers and the WRT has a direct connection into the internet (i.e. the WRT shows your public IP address on the Status page).
Some chained router setups shows problems with drop outs, connection loss and similar. I recommend to use only one router in home setups.
On a sidenote: port forwarding is not related to firewall functions. The reason why you need port forwarding is because a router does "NAT" (Network Address Translation). You use private IP addresses inside your LAN (e.g. 192.168.1.*). Private IP addresses are not routed into the internet. Any internet router will immediately drop packets with a private IP addresses. Thus, your router does NAT to map your private IP address to your single public IP address. It's in the nature of this mapping that unsolicited incoming traffic from the internet is dropped unless you configure port forwarding. That's simply because the router would not know where to sent a packet on a port 1234 received on its public IP address unless you tell it. Thus disabling the firewall on a router won't change a thing.

  • Can't get SMTP to accetp outside email (port 25 not open)

    Hi,
I've got the xServer 10.4 (latest) and it appears to be working fine in all other regards.
I have the mail service on (POP and IMAP both work fine) - I can send myself email using the UNIX command line mail (and get it through POP).
But I cannot send email either from my client through the xserver or from another account to the xServer - I'll get the message 'cannot send email for 8 hours...'
A quick port scan shows port 25 is not open (not can I telnet to it). But server admin shows it's running and appears to be happy (it's not over worked anyway).

May help if you can answer these questions.
    1) Did you set this up with the server admin tools or
have you edited any of the config files?
100% admin tools - this is even a new install. I'm not shy about editing config files but I figured Server Admin was easier and I can't see anything obviously wrong (not that I know that much about it)
    2) Did you telent to port 25 using the IP address?
    yes, no connection
    3) Did you telent to port 25 using the Server Name?
    yes, no connection
using port scan of the network utilities shows other ports open, just not 25. Output:
    Port Scanning host: 192.168.0.2
    Open TCP Port: 22 ssh
    Open TCP Port: 53 domain
    Open TCP Port: 80 http
    Open TCP Port: 110 pop3
    Open TCP Port: 143 imap
    and so on.
    4) What domain do you think you are trying to host
    mail?
Well several (I have the viirtural domains turned on) but declan.com will be the main one, right now it's also home.declan.com and donaldgevans.com.
From the information you posted (unless you edited
it) it is not clear how your networks are configured
or what the server is being asked to host. Answers
to the above will help clarify these points as even
if you fix this problem, you may have others.
OK - this is a fixed IP on the internet, going through a firewall (host mapping, everything passed through to this server which is 192.168.0.2). But I think this is less the issue - I can ssh, http, POP, IMAP to this server from either inside or outside the network. I cannot telnet to port 25 by IP or domain name either inside or outside so I assume it's not the network; it's because port 25 is not open.

  • Some pics not opening - big ! of death...

I have been using the same camera, same computer for 3 years. On a recent trip once I downloaded the pics - some open and some come up with the ! on the black screen, although I can view the thumbnail. I was able to fix some by selecting 'Revert to saved' but others I cannot. What might be causing this and anyway to fix it? It hasn't happened before or since.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Ports will not open in ASA 5505

We are trying to open ports 400 and 9799 on a 5505.I added these into the ACL and ran a port test but they still say closed. Do I have to add anything else other than a ACL statement?

    The access list looking good.
But did you apply this command
if your public inerface name is outside
    access-group acl_out in interface Outside
Also if it still did not work then probably it could be hitting a deny statement.

  • Port 21 not open - FTP access denied - Help please :-)

    I am running Server 10.3.9 on a DP 1.8 G5 with 1 GB RAM.
I configured and started ftp services and set up a user and folder. Tried to access using fetch from a machine on the LAN before setting up NAT for WAN access and got an Access Denied message. Did a port scan of the server and found that there are no ports open in the 20-23 range. I am not running the server's firewall.
Can somebody tell me how to open up port 21? Please use small words

Stumbled across somebody else's post. Turns out port 21 likes to close itself at times. A restart took care of it.

  • Why ports do not open on Airport Express 2nd generation ?

    Hi all,
Here is my setup at home.
Quick explanation, this is to avoid the limitation of 2 simultaneous PPPoE by my ISP.
We are connected over fiber @200Mbps so there are no issue whatsoever when everything is connected at the same time.
My problem is well known but nobody has found a solution so far: I cannot Remote Play the PS4 over the Internet with the PSVita.
I tried to open UDP/TCP ports on the Airport as mentioned here:
    http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/ps4link/viainternet.html
and I got port 9295 opened (looks ok when I check with www.canyouseeme.org), but I cannot open ports 9296 and 9297
The PS4 does turn on when I launched the PS4 Link app on the PSVita, so I guess the connections is made at some point but I cannot get the stream back from the PS4 (The PSVita is connected to a Wifi network @50Mbps/25Mbps so the speed is not the issue).
First, I would like to get those ports open to see if it fixes the issue. Any idea ?
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi all,
Sorry I could not find how to edit my previous post (or maybe I just cannot?).
Since the last PS4 and PSVita updates, everything works perfectly !
I set the PS4 on the DMZ with a static IP and followed the explanation here http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/ps4link/viainternet.html
I also unchecked "Connect Directly with PS Vita" in PS4 settings just in case (it may be unnecessary actually).
I hope some people will figure this as well. I was almost giving up and nearly bought a new wireless router.
So happy I don't have to after all
Enjoying FFXIV remotely on my lunch break at work and in the subway over the 4G network !

  • Nimatlabserver indicates server running but port not open

I have a problem, where matlab release13 tells me that the server is running on xxx port when loaded but checking that with netstat -na from a command prompt the xxx port is not open. My main issue is that I can't figure out why the server doesn't open the port? Anyhting you might have learned would be helpful. I used the main.vi to call the SIT start server.vi and I can see then that the port 6011 is open. I tried multiple ports to open in matlab but nothing works. I am using SIT v2.0

    Timmy,
If the SIT server is able to open port successfully, netstat -na will show a TCP port 6011 in Listening state. Failure to open the port should cause an error dialog and is most commonly caused by another application already using the port. More information is needed to diagnose the problem, but make sure that no windows security feature is interfering (ex. windows XP SP2 network security setting)
It is not possible to start multiple ports in one matlab process. You will need to start multiple matlab processes and start server by typing 'NiMatlabServer('start',6012)' for example.

  • Pls confirm SMB over TCP/IP w/o NetBIOS (port 445)

Pls confirm that Mac OS X natively supports SMB over TCP/IP w/o NetBIOS layer, i.e. have you been able to connect to a Windows mashine on port 445 (not 139) w/o port remapping.
    MB 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I just talked for 30 min with one of the university network sysadmins. Apparently, OS X does NOT support "native" SMB over TCP/IP on 445 (i.e. w/o handshake session on 139). It probably could be done thru VPN or DAVE software, but not thru Finder. There doesn't seem to be an easy fix to smb.conf or nsmb.conf that might do that.
Most of the firewalls around here filter 139 (but not 445) so PC can share with PC over Samba, but Mac can not. Way to go, Apple.

  • Port Forwarding not working (PLEASE HELP!)

I have been trying to port forward a Minecraft server for fun, however the port will not open no matter how many times I try. Here's what I've been doing: Enter 192.168.1.1 in browser and log in. Once on the home screen -> advanced -> port forwarding rules -> add port -> tcp -> any source -> single destination: 25565 (default port for a Minecraft server) -> add port -> udp -> any source -> single destination: 25565 -> apply -> fire wall settings -> typical security -> port forwarding -> select my computer I am on -> select the port forward I had previously created -> add -> resolve now & apply. The status shows as active, but when I use a site like checkmyports.net, it states that the port is closed. Is anyone else having port forwarding issues? What's the problem? Did I miss something?   Thanks in advance.
