Port 995 settings

Received the message about the port 25 change for outlook users. Followed the instructions provided. email stopped working
after trying various combinations email works with the port 25 change for outgoing mail but the requested change to port 995 in the incoming server didn't by switching the out going port back to 110 and leaving the incoming at the new 465 setting it now is working again. Question will the old outgoing port be blocked also? When will the incoming port 25 be blocked in Pa. After reading other posts there seem to be issues with the new 456 port and spam.

Thank you for your post. At this time if your service is Dynamic you will not be able to use Port 25 to send messages. Port 587 must be used in order to send outgoing email.

Yosemite, Mail-Preference-Accounts- Advanced port 995 problem

I'm using mac air and mac pro. I've got a problem on my mail receiving when upgraded to Yosemite, in my mail preference- Accounts-Advanced, i am trying to change port 995 to 110 but it keeps reverting to 995 when saved. Port 110 is the setting before, pls help?

Any tips on setting up a NEW account with advanced settings?
There seems to be a UX issue with setting up the accounts. Every time I'm setting up my email from my own servers, it passes IMAP with "an error occurred" and then after inputting my SMTP info, it hangs....and hangs....and NOTHING happens. I need to configure my account is setup as IMAP SSL, but it's not detecting it nor is it giving me options to insert this information.
What the crap happened with MAIL? (Been using Airmail for a while, but gave up on that.)

Since many other people seem to be running into this problem, I'm creating this new thread in the hope that it will help.
I have the Yahoo portal, so my server settings are incoming.yahoo.verizon.net and outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
When I changed ports to 995 and 465 using SSL in Thunderbird, I was unable to receive and send e-mail.
Finally I read that it was possible that my modem/router (an old Westell 327w) was blocking the ports. Supposedly the device blocked the ports by default. One solution offered was to lower my firewall setting to LOW. I did that, and presto! I am now able to use the required settings in Thunderbird with no problem.
However, I'm not happy about having to lower my firewall settings and would like to eventually find another solution.
I'd like to hear from anyone using a desktop email client like Thunderbird who never had any trouble with the new settings. Would you be willing to share what type of modem/router you have from Verizon? Then I would look into getting one of those.
Other info that might help -- I'm still using Win XP SP3. I just have Verizon High-Speed Internet, not FIOS.
I hope this helps other people, and I hope to get some info on newer modem/routers that don't block ports 995 and 465.

Even though Disk Utility First Aid 'repaired' the drive I would still not rely on DU to find and fix errors. Nor continue to rely on LaCie.
Usually when there is a problem the FW ports need to be 'reset' which seems to be a LaCie feature or only happens with their cases.
And yes, use SuperDuper or Drive Genius 2 so you have bootable backups. But sadly 3rd party disk repair and maintenance are essential and a must. Don't wait until DU First Aid does find an error it can't fix, DW finds and fixes problems Apple doesn't.

Port 995

Hi,
I have just set up web hosting and I am attempting to set-up my email so that it can be received and sent from Mail. I have been in constant correspondence with their support desk, but they don't seem to be able to assist any further.
They tell me that my iMac is blocking port 995 so mail won't send. As a result, they've told me that I can't use IMAP and must use POP instead. I really don't want to do this, therefore is there anyway of setting my Mac so that port 995 is open?

What you have been told makes no sense, at least as you have repeated it. Port 995 is never used for sending -- it is the port to be used with a POP account and SSL, and only with POP. The analogous port for receiving IMAP using SSL is Port 993. Again neither would have anything to do with sending and presenting the Outgoing Server. Any SMTP using SSL would typically use Port 465.
The port for any Incoming server is selected in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced, while the port for any Outgoing Server (SMTP) is selected in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information by clicking on the up/down arrows beside the name of the Outgoing server. This has two tabs, the second tab, named Advanced, is where you selection the port and and authentication to be used with the SMTP.

guide I'm getting an error when running the below command:
Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan -vmname PurpleVM1 -Isolated -PrimaryVlanId 2 –SecondaryVlanId 4
Generates the following error:
Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan : The operation failed.
Failed while applying switch port settings 'Ethernet Switch Port VLAN Settings' on switch 'New Virtual Switch': One or
more arguments are invalid (0x80070057).
A parameter that is not valid was passed to the operation.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

It seems that there is a configuration conflict on the virtual switch port .
Also I tested the command on my lab , it works .
For troubleshooting please create a new virtual switch then try to configure again .

Airport Extreme removes port forward settings every reboot

I have set up various port forward settings on my Airport Extreme from OS X Server. However, every time I reboot the Airport, all port forward settings are lost except Contacts, Calendars, and DNS. It gets very troublesome to constantly readd all my settings in there. Port forwards are the only settings that are lost.

I found the issue – and it's fairly simple and obviously really. I'm guessing you were adding the ports from OS X Server in the order they are listed within Server.app (where they are listed in alphabetical order). After Calendar, Contacts and DNS is "File Sharing".
If this is enabled, whilst File Sharing is enabled on the AirPort Extreme, the port forwarding entry for File Sharing, and anything below is removed.
Simply disable "File Sharing" from AirPort Utility before continuing (as recommended by Server.app when setting up the service for File Sharing).
I understand you replaced your AE and no longer have the issue – I thought I'd leave the explanation should others encounter it.

Can receive but can't send mail via BT Yahoo SMTP server port 995

Suddenly I can't send mail from my BT/Yahoo account but can still receive mail. The message that i get is that it was rejected by the server. I have not changed the server - it is still SMTP via port 995, using SSL. Help!! Why should this have ocurred out of the blue and what do I do?

I loaded Lion Mountain and now i have no access to my Gmail account on MAIL

it works very well on my iphone and Sparrow but not on my iMac

I have mine set to 993... but I did not set it... all i did was set up gmail, and it worked automaticlly. That might have been the port number in Lion... i dont know.

E3200 not saving port forwarding settings

I have tried numerious times to set my port forwarding settings. Everytime I setup and fill in the appropiate ports and hit the save button my setting are lost. I go back into the port forwarding setting page and literally after a fews secondsof inputting the ports and nothing is there and everything is zeroed out . Has anyone experienced this problem. Do I have to set my ip address to static before I can put my port forwarding settings in.

use Mail > Window > Connection Doctor
This will tell you exactly which part of Mail cannot connect. Sometimes it is the Mail Receiver, typically POP or IMAP. Its password is easy to see and fix.
Sometimes it is the Mail Sender, or OutGoing mail Server, typically SMTP. The Outgoing Mail Server is difficult to access. Use:
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > (select an Account)
From "Outgoing Mail Server SMTP:" choose "Edit SMTP Server List"
This will show you all your Mail Senders, and if any passwords are missing you can enter the correct password again

Recommended port-security settings for ASA HA failover

I have a pair of ASA 5510s configured in active/standby mode. I have already configured the failover settings on the firewalls. Both firewalls are connected to a 2960G. I made a change to the interfaces on the 2960 to allow 2 mac addresses on each port. Here is the switch port config:

Upon testing failover via the failover active command, I get port-security errors on the outside interface for each device:
%PORT_SECURITY-2-PSECURE_VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address aaaa.bbbb.cccc on port GigabitEthernet0/8. After a few minutes, the error goes away and I can then connect to each firewall. It seems that it still waits for the aging time to expire before allowing the other MAC address. Shouldn't the "maximum 2" setting allow for both mac addresses?
I'd rather not have to hardcode the firewall's MAC addresses on each switchport because I could see this causing problems for us down the road. Is there anything else that can be done?

Hello,
This is expected because of the way ASA failover works. When a failover event occurs, the 2 units will swap their IP and MAC addresses (i.e. the Active unit is always using the same IP and MAC, but this role changes between the 2 physical units).
Per the port-security config guide:

"...if a station with a secure MAC address configured or learned on one secure port attempts to access another secure port, a violation is flagged."
Since the MAC address moves to the other switchport when the failover happens, a violation is being logged.

WRV210 loses port forwarding settings after reboot

Along with wireless problems that have already been documented about this device I am having problems with port forwarding where it will lose all its settings after losing its power. I then try to go into the management for port forwarding and am not able to put the settings back in as every time I hit 'Save' it just loads the page back up with no settings applied. Another strange thing is that the protocol comboboxes only have options for UDP or Both.
I then reapply the latest firmware and am able to enter the settings again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end with this one.

Privacy on new laptop (port old settings and/or install Tor)

i am buying a new laptop, upgrading to Lion (from SL) and wanting to get my privacy settings correct so i don't continue to feel like i need to move to Amish Country to live hassle free.
basically i want to make sure this new laptop is secure but also i would like to be able to post to a forum or forums totally anonymously. i'm just amazed at what passes on some forums (like would you say that to someone on the street?!) and i basically want to wipe any identifying info from my laptop and eventually from my desktop machine.
i am also looking at installing Tor [https://www.torproject.org/] and changing the short user name on this exiting laptop [http://www.macworld.com/article/1132693/changeshortusername.html].
i have a boatload of software and customized settings installed on this machine since i moved to mac an i am hoping one of the net savvy cats on the forum can help me figure out whether i should upgrade to Lion (need to do this soon), install Tor (like to do this for privacy), change my short user name (want to do this for practical reasons) and buy the new computer in any particular order.
also, i am hoping to find out if i can port my existing setup (whatever it will be) when i buy the new computer (roughly 1 or 2 months).
finally, i am trying to figure out if i need to do anything other than install Tor to browse the web, post to forums etcetera anonymously.

What you really want is the files, not the music really, just the system files so that when you reinstall iTunes you can replace the system files with the ones you backed up, thus saving your settings from your previous installation. As for the music, after you reinstall, you can backup your music from your iPod before you sync it to the new iTunes installation, that way it insures you not to lose all your music. I deleted half my music by accident from in my iTunes Music hard drive that I have separately so as to be able to keep all my music in case of a computer crash, which we both know is a drawback of having a Windows-based PC. Where you want to go is first go to Edit then Preferences then Devices and make sure you have Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically checked, then you can rest assured that you won't lose the music already on the iPod. Then you go to File then Library then Back Up To Disc. This is of course after you have iTunes reinstalled. Just save the system folders with all the system settings from your documents/music/iTunes section. Then uninstall and reinstall. Then transfer the backed up system files back to that folder and overwrite the new files that were created.

Port# - proxy settings

I have dreamweaver CS6 through adobe cloud. I am using in a commercial application (business).
My host changed my port# from 21 to 12420.
I changed all the appropriate settings and it is not working. I test the FTP connection and dreamweaver says (successful). Then I go to upload my data update and it gives me an error message of (file activity incomplete).
I was online with one of your techs this afternoon and hit a wall, told me to post my situation on this forum to get help. I was told that dreamweaver only supports FTP 21 port and it is a proxy setting that I need the proxy host name and settings to get this to work. ... & no my host will not give me this information I have tried and gone rounds. I looked up alternate port # to see if I could find this info somewhere else online and my port # of 12420 came up with no info. I need this to work, I am hitting a wall, any suggestions you might have would be welcome. OH, I am told from my host that they have done this to other clients, using dreamweaver, and it works, that it is a dreamweaver issue.

I am in an office environment.
It is as suspected, my host would not give me the root directory, so we
had to hunt for it and quess and finally figured it out.
If my host would have given me the information as asked I would not have
had this issue.
