Port Direction Definition? (and got port forward to work in medium security!)

I just received my replacement modem (327W to 7500) and I want to set it to medium security.  I need to forward ports, like UDP 123 for time service (why is this not a predefined service?).
Anyway, I got it to work by making one new service with "host" and all three combinations of direction as rules.  This is because I could not figure out the implications of Direction: In/Out or Port Directionrc/Dst.
I downloaded the manual BUT it does not define those choices; just sez select.  It reminds me of the old IBM Fortran manuals where you could only find what you needed if you already knew the answer.
Anyway, I am sure I am not the only one with this question.  Like I said, the good news is you CAN port forward in medium security, it just ain't pretty the way I did it.

Dewey

  • Back out 9 and got my CD burner working again

After going through all the threads and not seeming to get anywhere, I finally got things working again. I had installed 9 and, of course, as with many of you, the CD burning stopped. I tried deinstalling, reinstalling, updating GEAR, etc, etc but no luck.
Finally, I did this (all based on a lot of different recommendations)...
I located the 8.2 download of iTunes using a Google search. I downloaded the installation routine to my hard drive but did not install it yet.
I deinstalled iTunes 9.01 and rebooted.
I did the cleanup of GEAR using this as a guide... http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2C_etc#Manual_Removal_.E2.80.9 332-bit rebooting each time it said to.
I installed 8.2 and used a previous but very current .itf file to load my library (press the shift key when starting iTunes and hold it down until you get prompted to select or create a new library).
I did this and my first tests didn't burn anything. I realized I was reusing CD's that I have tried to burn to but that hadn't seemed to work. Evidently something was on them because when I used a fresh one today, it worked.
One thing... currently I have 8x selected as the speed of burning based on an earlier recommendation. I don't know if I need to have that selected of the 'max speed'. I'll test that next time I need to burn a CD.
    Good luck!
    Dave

I tried to burn another CD today. I reset the speed to 'Max possible' and it did not work. I changed it back to 8x, used another CD and this time it worked.
At least I can reliably burn CD's again.

  • How does the Error Row Definition and Error Message Lookup setup work?

Suppose I use web ADI to load data to PA_TRANSACTION_INTERFACE_ALL (This is Oracle standard Interface table for Projects)
I call a Importer (The Importer is called post upload of data to above Interface Table). The Importer will update the Interface table columns (TRANSACTION_STATUS_CODE) and (TRANSACTION_REJECTION_CODE) with values based on the clearing all validations. If validation fails, the column, TRANSACTION_STATUS_CODE is updated with value 'R' and TRANSACTION_REJECTION_CODE has the error code. This error code is stored in the Lookup, with Lookup Type = 'TRANSACTION REJECTION REASON'
I define the Error Row Definition as follows -
    select * from PA_TRANSACTION_INTERFACE_ALL where TRANSACTION_STATUS_CODE = 'R' and BATCH_NAME = $param$.batchname (BATCH_NAME is populated in the Web ADI Template)
I define the Error Message Lookup as -
select meaning from apps.fnd_lookup_values where lookup_type ='TRANSACTION REJECTION REASON'
    and language='US' and lookup_code = $param$.TRANSACTION_REJECTION_CODE
I have defined the , Document Row : Interface Attribute Mapping - with the column, ORIG_TRANSACTION_REFERENCE (THe column with the Unique value for a row and links the Excel row with the Interface table)
I feel my setups are fine. Still why the Error -
An error has occurred while running an API import. The ERRORED_ROWS step 275:ER_501996, parameter number 1 must contain the value BIND in attribute 1.

  • How I fixed my iPhone and got the update to work...

This sounds silly, but I just kept un-docking my iPhone and then re-docking it. If the error message came up, I clicked "OK" and did it over again. After about the eighth try, it went through and my iPhone is now updated. Hope this helps.

I talked to AT&T support. They say that the Apple activation servers are down. Should be fixed "within an hour".
So much for the stupid activation scheme via iTunes . There doesn't even appear a backup to do the activation over the phone.

  • Is there a docking station for the HP Compaq 625 with serial and parallel ports?

    Hi
I am looking for a docking station with at least 4 USB ports plus serial and parallel ports for the HP Compaq 625 running Windows 7.
If not, what are the cheapest laptops for which I could find such a docking station?
    Thanks

The TravelSound ZEN X-fi looks like is might work, but it says nothing that it will. If it works I will buy it in second.
Look carefully to Creative's documentation for this docking station. It is not compatible with the X-Fi2 or X-Fi Style.

  • Need some direction on FW Redundancy and opening ports

I would appreciate any advice on the current ways of connecting 2 Firewalls directly for redundancy and also the best practice for allowing data through the firewall. Do firewalls have a stacking technology similar to StackWise or FlexStack? I need to allow specific ports through my network into another private network. Although this won't be connected to the internet the same type of security as if it were, is important. Sorry if this is a generic question but what methods would be best for allowing data to and from through my network firewall? I would grealty appreciate any sample configurations (I don't plan on configuring zones) or documentation on the current way of allowing these functions. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
There are 2 different options to my knowledge to have firewall redundancy with Cisco firewalls.
The most common one is Active/Standby Failover which you have 2 identical (hardware & software) Cisco firewalls connected by a Failover link. One of the the firewalls is the Active unit and handles traffic while the other unit is Standby monitoring the state of the Active device (and vice versa). When the Active unit fails the Standby unit will take the Active role.
Another option is Active/Active which basically means that you would be running multiple virtual Firewalls inside the actual hardware firewall. Some virtual firewalls would be Active on hardware unit 1 and some virtual firewalls would be Active unit would be Active on hardware unit 2. Hence the term Active/Active, both firewalls would be handling traffic.
ASA 9.0 Configuration Guide section on Failover
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa90/configuration/guide/ha_overview.html
The second and new option is Cluster setup where you essentially combine multiple identical firewalls together. This is a subject though that I have not gotten to test myself so my knowledge is very limited. Though to my understanding this is available only with high end ASA5585-X units so it might not be an option for most.
ASA 9.0 Configuration Guide section on Cluster
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa90/configuration/guide/ha_cluster.html
So most likely you will be using Active/Standby Failover with 2 identical Cisco firewalls.
Their configuration format compared to a standalone firewall doesnt differ much.
You will configure a "standby" IP address also on the ASA that will be the IP address that the Standby unit uses
You will configure the actual Failover interface
You will configure general Failover related settings
You can tune the Failover settings and define which interfaces are monitored (and can effect the Failover) and set some other additional parameters
So there is not that much to configure compared to the standalone Cisco firewall setup.
Your post seems to indicate that this firewall or firewall pair would be used for Internal network usage. I mean a firewall between 2 LAN/DMZ networks. This would in turn mean that unless you specifically need NAT between these network segments, you could actually leave the NAT configuration of the firewall completely blank and only configure the Routing&Firewalling related settings.
How you would configure access between the 2 different network segments would naturally depend on your own setup.
From what I understood from your above post it would seem to me that you should configure ACLs on both interfaces connected to their own network segments. These ACLs would be configured in Inbound direction (which would control traffic heading towards the firewall from that segment and into the other segment). You could then configure both ACLs in the manner that ONLY the required source/destination IP addresses/networks/ports are allowed and all other traffic is blocked.
I am not really sure what kind of example configuration we could give you as we dont really know what the whole setup is going to be.
    Hope this helps

  • Port forwarding - why is forwarded and permitted port always CLOSED?

    Hello,
    I have a network configured a follows:
    AEBS(WDSmain)----->AExpressBS(WDSremote)------>G5/MacMiniA/MacMiniB (All on AE cards)
The AEBS is set up to access the world via DHCP and to share/use IP address 192.168.1.1 (NAT). PORT 59500 Public and Private is supposed to be opened and sent to 192.168.1.5 (G5).
The G5 is set up as DHCP with manual address (192.168.1.5)
The local firewall rule on the G5 allows network traffic on port 59500. So, all should be fine. Right? WRONG!
The port once and only once appeared as OPEN.
But, now and ever since, it is shown (by the remotely accessing computer) as CLOSED and sometimes STEALTH. The configuration is exactly as I've described. But, the port is just not accessible. I have tried several other ports. But, none will open for me.
Can someone please let me in on the secret to actually controlling my ports? It's as if the engineers decided that this was something better left to them and they are just humoring us with the entries.
Oh, and the Default Host as suggested many times in this discussion area is not an option. I want to leave that disabled (as it should always be).
Any real help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    G5 Dual 1.8 (PCI-X)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I would guess that you have your AEBS configured with "Distribute IP addresses" enabled. If this is true, you should use a static IP address outside of the range used by the AEBS's DHCP server. You can use any address in the range 192.168.1.201 192.168.1.255.The G5 is set up as DHCP with manual address (192.168.1.5)Set it up as just manual IP (with no DHCP).
If you haven't already I suggest that you read through How do I use Port Mapping (Part I).

  • WRT160N V3 DMZ and Port-Forwarding dont work

    Hi All,
i have a WRT160N V3 and DMZ or Portforwarding dont work.
    i tried locally following
    WAN_PC-> WAN-PORT -> WRT160N V3 -> LOCAL-PORT -> LOCAL_PC
    The WAN_PC has a Static-IP 192.168.1.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0
    The WAN-PORT has a Static-IP 192.168.1.1, Subnet 255.255.255.0
ON the WRT160N V3 i configured a DMZ on 192.168.0.100.and Disabled the Firewall.
    On the LOCAL_PC (192.168.0.100:8888) is a Apache
So when i type 192.168.1.1:8888 on the WAN_PC i get NOOO Website from the Apache on 192.168.0.100:8888?
    WHY??????????????
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Please correct me if I am wrong. My understanding of your setup is that you have a computer plugged-in to the internet port of the router and another computer plugged-in to the ethernet port of the router? Is that correct? You do not have a modem for internet connection or something like that? If you can post here a diagram that will be better. Thank you.

  • Port Forwarding not working on new Home Hub 4

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get port forwarding going on a new Home Hub 4, specifically so I can access my Netgear Stora through its web interface on my LAN.
I've set the rules in port forwarding for the following ports:
    Port 80 is HTTP Server
    Port 443 is HTTPS Server
    Port 21 is FTP Server
    Port 22 is SSH Server
All these are now open and connect to Stora, which has an address supplied by DHCP.
However, when I check with various online port checkers, none of the ports are open and checking the trouble shooting logs of the BT Home Hub shows that the connection is being rejected. This is a sample of the message that is shown:
    IN: ACCEPT [57] Connection closed (Port Forwarding: TCP 192.168.1.69:22 <-->86.141.184.236:22 [184.72.89.72:42894] CLOSED/TIME_WAIT ppp1 NAPT)
What can I do to make port forwarding work? I can't change the IP address of the Stora as I need to get into it via its web interface to do that.
I can navigate directly through Explorer to the files on the Netgear Stora NAS but not through the web interface.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

i think by applying a static DNS i got it working, not 100% sure yet. edit: yep that worked, everyone can connect once again.

  • Using the In port.vi and Out port.vi in LabVIEW access my the Cards(Home made)

    Hi Everyone,
I have got the Cards (home made 8 bit and 16 bit ) plug in at slot ISA my PC (I am using the commands inport and outport (addressed with 318-31A Hex) in C language to access very good). This now,I want to use LabVIEW language to access data directly to Port at my the Cards. In LabVIEW, Can I access data to port using the In port.vi and Out port.vi located in the Advance?

    Thank you a lot.

Are you talking about physical memory access here? If so that is
something entirely different. The Intel x86 architecture uses a separate
IO address range which is entirely separate from memory space.
And at least up to the first Pentium models it was definitely never
possible to address more than 16 bits for IO address space.
This of course has gotten a little more complicated nowadays with many
PCI boards being actually mapped into memory address space instead of IO
address space. So eventhough a PCI board is more like an IO device it
often is accessed in the memory space.

I think the VIs to access physical memory addresses were different than
the ones to access IO addresses. And yes it is definitely not a good
idea to have an application poke into physical memory as it could
completely screw the system to the point where you couldn't start it
anymore. Also IO devices mapped into memory address space are almost
always typically plug and play devices, so their address is not really
fixed and you need to do quite some more work on OS level to enumerate
your hardware and find the resources used before trying to access it.
This is something not really suited to try to do in LabVIEW and
therefore should be at least implemented as DLL but in fact anything but
a device driver is a very bad kludge.

  • Cutting the time a switch port will take to go in forwarding state

For a lab enviroment, how to set the time a port will take to go from learning to forwarding stage, if LAN topology got changed. For instance to 10-seconds.
I have gone through many readings, I couldn't find clear cut answer, other than recommendations to enable spanning-tree porfast and spanning-tree bpdu port guard enable.
    Appreciate your help.

    Hello,
you cannot set the timers per port, but you can set them per Vlan. The max-age timer (20 seconds by default) and the forward-delay timer (15 seconds x 2 by default) can be set to the minimum with the following command:
    spanning-tree vlan x forward-time 4
    spanning-tree vlan x max-age 6
    These are the minimum-configurable values.
Spanning-tree portfast skips the listening and learning phase of STP and moves the port directly into the forwarding state. However, enabling this feature is only recommended for ports that connect to end devices, such as PCs or servers, because the port will not properly detect a spanning tree loop when this feature is enabled on a port. The bpduguard feature is usually used in combination with the portfast feature: if a BPDU is detected, which means that there is another STP-capable device connected to that port, the port is shut down...
    Does that make sense ?
