Port forwarding externally but not internally

I've got an AExtremeBS at home and at work. I've been port forwarding http for a while with no problems internally or externally. I've recently configured a new web server which internally is hosted on port 80. I've enabled port forwarding from 8080 to 80 on the AEBS and it works fine externally. However, if I try to browse the site internally using the FQDN:8080 of my AEBS, it does not work.
I can check both external and internal and the external is still working while the internal is not.
Any ideas?
One idea would be to move my internal listener to 8080 and just port forward 8080 to 8080 (I would just redirect 8080 to the internalIP:8080 rather than map 8080 to internal:80).
Thanks,
sid.

You might be onto something....but it's probably not what you think, but then again, I just confused myself again.
To get OD working I had to add my Leopard Server to my DNS settings. The Leopard Server required that it resolves the FQDN of the AEBS to itself (the internal IP address). However, everything else on the network resolves the FQDN to the external IP address.
If I nslookup on my FQDN, from my mac (which has the Leopard Server as it's DNS server) I get the internal IP address of the Leopard Server. However, if I go to another machine inside my network which does not query DNS from the Leopard Server, I get my external IP and when I browse to extneral:8080 it port forwards correctly. So it wasn't the AEBS, it was my particular mac and freaking Leopard Server.
So, it's settled, Leopard Server strikes again. I can't believe that Apple released this POS. I had a much easier time with Ubuntu 6.06 on my old 300 MHz blueberry iMac.

  • Web server works externally, but not internally

Hi I'm kind of new to this.
I got my web server working exteranlly, but within my internal network, the webserver only works if I input the actual ip address and not www.example.com.
I have a Cisco RVS4000 set as a gateway and a Mac Mini with Server App 10.8x. My guess is that I have to enable some port. I followed the well known TCP/UDP Ports (https://discussions.apple.com/article/TS1629), but I still can't get it to work internally.
Any thoughts on why it's not working interanlly?
    Thank you,

Lol...After fixing one issue, another one came up. This time it has to do with the name I am using. For example:
www.exmaple.com and tm1.example.com (both are hosted with different ips)
Since they are both using the same name: exmaple.com, I cannot access the www.exmaple.com, but I can access the tm1.example.com
You have been a great help John, is there anyway to fix this?
    Thank you

  • Mini boots with new cloned drive externally, but not internally.

    Hi.
I bought a new, bigger and faster HD for my early 2009 Mac mini (10.8.2) and cloned my original drive with Carbon Copy Cloner, making sure to include the hidden recovery partition. Using a USB to SATA adapter, I can boot from the new drive no problem. However, when I open up the mini and replace the old drive with the new one, all I get is the folder with question mark that blinks. I've tried holding down option when rebooting to get to the recovery partition, but all I get is the WiFi log in, no drives or any other options to choose from. If my Time Machine drive is connected, that does appear but fails to do anything if I click on it. (When the old drive is in, I can access the new drive just fine, and can even boot into the new drive's recovery mode.) Is there some step I'm missing, or some troubleshooting I can do that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks.

It sounds as though the connector for your drive didn't get seated properly.
If by that you mean it wasn't secure inside the computer, you could be right, but I pulled the drive in and out three separate times as I opened and closed the machine to exchange the old and new drives a few times and always tried to make sure it was nice and snug in there.
    Thanks for the response.

  • RSRV - error - 0MATERIAL is in external and not internal forma

    Hi,
When i do the RSRV for material in my system i get the following errors
    1) Value 0100001808  for char. 0MATERIAL is in external and not internal format
    2) Value in SID table 0109/ correct value 000000000000000109/ SID in SID table 57961
how to resolve the errors ? any idea
    Regards,
    BWer

    Hello BWer,
If you cannot make the change in OMSL, you will have to convert the material numbers in a transformation when loading.  As per note 555675, the settings in R/3 and BW must be identical.
If the source is an SAP system, it is expected that the material number will have the correct format and the conversion exit will not be called.  If the settings are not the same as per note 555675, you will entounter problems.
    Best Regards,
    Vincent

  • VPN: Port-forwarding OK but Nothing Talking

I've set up several 10.3 & 10.4 VPN services but this one has me puzzled...
10.4.2 Server (does it just need updated?)
Internal ip only (no firewall on server) with router forwarding UDP 1701, 500 & 4500 (for L2TP).
When attempting to form the VPN with remote (wan side) Internet Connect client, there is no connection showing in vpnd.log (set to verbose logging) and no connection showing on Internet Connect log. It's like the port forwarding is not taking place. However...
If I run a port scan from remote machine, on UDP 1701, 500 & 4500, this traffic shows up on a TCPDump session running on the server.
Attempting to form the VPN, however, shows NO traffic with TCPDump.
The IP address of the server, in Internet Connect, is correct (same as the one used during port scanning). The VPN client is able to connect to several other servers OK.
    Any ideas?

    1. What kind of router are you using?
Corega router at server side and Netgear DG834G on client side (with ethernet cable, not wireless).
The Netgear works fine to other sites. The Corega is 'unproven' in that I do not have another site with same router. It can act as a VPN gateway (this does work elsewhere) but is not active in this role at this site (we want to use server vpn service).
    2. I have seen a few copies of 10.4.x Server just go
L2TP/IPSec deaf. They all eventually sorted
themselves out with software updates, but certain
versions were just plain ol' deaf.
I've now updated to 10.4.8. No difference.
    Just to reiterate...
Port-forwarding of 500, 1701 and 4500 appears to be working, as a TCPDump on the server lists these packets when a remote machine is port scanning for them.
However, the same TCPDump session does not list any UDP 500 packets when the VPN client (internet connect) is attempting to start. Logs show nothing beyond "listening for connections...". As I understand it, L2TP commences with an IKE communication on port 500 prior to the later 'real' stuff. Why is this not showing up in a TCPDump?
    Puzzled...

  • SATA Problem: Can see hard disks in USB enclosures, but not internal

I have a mid-2010 macbook pro 13". The other day, it crashed on wake-up, and would not boot. I had a OCZ Vertex SSD boot drive, and the OEM hard drive in an optibay enclosure (replaces the optical drive and used only for data). I used this setup for one year with no problems. After much troubleshooting, I found that I could see the SSD drive by booting into a recovery partition that I have on a USB stick, and putting the SSD in a USB enclosure. Then disk utility could see it, but not mount it. The label on the boot partition was "lion", but it changed to "disk1s2". I was able to repair the drive using disk utility, and then boot from it using the USB enclosure.
Once booted, I could still see the OEM hard drive with no problems. So I powered down and put the SSD back inside the case and rebooted. It booted in safe mode, but it booted fine. The next time I rebooted, it would not boot. I swapped the OEM drive and the SSD drive, and then the sytem booted with no problems and I was able to use both drives.
One day later, I noticed my OEM drive was no longer mounted in OSX. I took it out, put it in a USB enclosure, and OSX could see it fine. There were no errors on the disk. I put it back in the macbook and reboot but OSX couldn't see it.
So, the primary SATA port seems to be working intermittently. Three times now, a drive has stopped working on this port. Each time, I could use the drive in an external enclosure (or using the other SATA port normally used for the optical drive. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it just be the cable? It is the motherboard?
I'm trying to make this computer last at least another month or so because I need to upgrade to a larger model, and am holding out for the 2012 release.

Could be something as simple as the cable...they have been known to go bad. Got an Apple store nearby? If so, it's a cheap/easy replacement.

  • Port forwarding for SSH not working on WRT54G2

    Hi,
I have forwarded a few ports, but can't get port 22 for SSH to work. I can SSH from within LAN, so that works. And I can access FTP from outside the LAN, when I forwarded that port. But to the same computer where I can access FTP I can't access SSH...
Would be grateful for assistance. Btw, I'm using dynamic IP (through DynDNS, but not using the DynDNS tool in the Linksys interface). I've tried with both the dynDNS domain and the IP address. And I have set a fixed IP address on the server I try to access.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Make sure that if you are forwarding the port nos for SSH on WRT54G2 you need to forward it for the assinged static ip address & it should work great..just try it once.

  • Why are my USB ports are working, but not providing power?

I just got a brand new 15" Macbook Pro and the USB ports appear to be working fine for items that don't require power, but I plugged my Avid Mbox into it and the power light on the Mbox flashes, indicating it is not getting enough power.  The Mbox works fine on my other Macbook Pro (2010 model) and it works on my Imac, but not the new Macbook.  I have a powered hard drive that works fine on the new Macbook, so the USB port is not dead, but just seems to not be supplying power properly for this device that needs it.  I don't have another item which uses the power like this to test, but I wonder if anyone has any idea if this is simply faulty hardware and if there is a conclusive way to test.  As it's literally two days old, I would exchange it if it really isn't working properly.  Only difference between this new Mac and the others is that it's running Lion and the others are running Snow Leopard.

If you have an iPhone or iPod that can be charged by the USB port, then the problem lies with the Mbox and/or the cable attaching it.  If you google the problem (and I hope you did, because there are tons of posts at the various Mac websites about troubles with the Mbox and the MacBook Pro), you'll see people either plug and play with no issues, or they spend a lot of time doing so.  It sounds like you're the latter.
Anyways, if an iPhone or iPod (or anything else that requires USB power to run) doesn't work, then the issue is your MBP.

  • AddChild adding Class but not internal shapes

    Hi Friends
I am presently developing a site completely class based. N
    I am facing a problem .
There were so many addchild (to attach them to stage at
    runtime) clips in the library.
I dont want them to be exported over the first frame so in
the LINKAGE PROPERTIES i am unchecking the export in the first
frame option and I am using a base class for them which again
exteds Display.MovieClip class [it must be].
Further In the Publish Settings under ACTION SCRIPT 3.0
settings I have changed the export class in frame to 2 so the Frame
1 of teh movie will be free from classes and Objects so a simple
preloader can be put which will display start from the 0 or may
little bit of 5 percent till 100.
If if activate The export in the first frame then the Frame 1
will become 50% of the movie and my preloader will start from 50
i.e. after completely loading the Frame 1.
But the problem is I have Unchecked and freed the Frame 1
size but the MovieClip objects are not getting added at the run
time. But I am sure that the class Which I have created is
attaching but not the internal objects.
For this i cannot put all the coe but i will explaing here.
    I have created a main.fla and in it's library i have a symbol
which was exported for action script.
    Class name mc
base class mcClip. // this class will extend the
Display.movieClip class so no problem at all. [this i have doe
because the same class can be used for multiple objects in the
    library.]
    Unchecked Export in frist frame
Please follow the code below and continue from here
while runnign teh move the class is adding but teh graphic
shape which i have drawn in the library movielicp is not attaching
    to the stage.
I am not getting what happening here.
the library movie clip is not attaching but its base class is
attaching and it is tracing the class.
I hope you got the problem what I have.
Please any body who read it dont ignore it
    Thanks in Advance.
I will be great full to you
    Download
the test files i have Created
    ***

Thanks Raymond - I'm afraid the penny ain't dropping for me,
so instead of instantiating the 'Test' class from the timeline and
I do it from the document class (as you should) it works a treat
with no tweaks. I've done as I think you were suggesting. Created
new 'Test' from the timeline, put an empty mc ('holder') on the
stage, passed that as a movieclip variable to the constructor and
holder.addchild(some graphic) and thats all fine - Still don't
understand why one method of instantiating the class is fine the
other causes unpredictable results, at a guess the document class
route of doing so automatically adds it directly to the display
    list?
    Thanks

  • Port forwarding UDP 500 not consistent

I have a WRT400N setup to port forward UDP 500 (IKE) to a VPN device on my LAN.  It works for a few hours, and then stops forwarding.  If I reboot the WRT400N, it starts forwarding again.  Has anyone seen this behavior?
Other ports I'm forwarding, such as 443 (HTTPS) work OK all the time.

Try to re-flash the firmware on your router and see if that works.
Connect the computer with the Ethernet cable to the router.
Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router. Click on Administration tab and go to Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and upgrade it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

  • Want external widescreen not internal 4:3 - but perspective is stretched...

    Hello,
I've just plugged in a new external widescreen, using the mini-VGA to VGA adaptor (btw, I know that spanning doesn't work - it only mirrors).
The external screen just loads up in the iMac's maximum resolution (1024x768) and is stretched. I want to make the perspective correct and I'm not sure how.
The only other settings in my displays are 800x600 and 640x480. I've just downloaded SwitchResX but I'm hesitant to simply make a new resolution.
    Any suggestions?!?

We know that Apple has limited the Graphics cards in the iMac G4. There is a hack called "Screen Spanning Doctor" that will re-enable all the available resolutions and allow dual-screen mode but it only works for the 1GHz 15" iMac G4 (which is a GeForce 4 MX). Applying this hack may permanently damage your iMac and will invalidate any warranty left.
This hack won't work on the GeForce 2 MX machines like yours. Here are the developer specs for your display.
Personally I would advise sticking to XGA. This is the highest you can output.

  • I just want itunes music and database to be on external HD not internal

What am I doing wrong. I have itunes music library on my external HD and my itunes preferences say that my itunes music folder location is just that. It's about 41 GB. Ok, but why on my system drive is there an itunes folder in the default user music folder and it is 7 GB and there are certain titles in there that did not make it to the external. The database files are in there as well. Shouldn't everything be located in the external itunes music folder including the database files ? How do I have itunes automatically update the external HD folder and put the database files in there as well and stop using the internal system drive for storage and database.

I did that a while ago. But now it seems there are 7 GB of stray files. Is there a sync feature that moves only the itunes files that are outside the designated itunes folder, in my case they are living on the system drive for some reason...

  • Natting port 3360 externally to 3389 internally. (Cisco ASA 8.2)

    Hey everyone,
I'm running an ASA with 8.2 and i don't want port 3389 to respond on the outside so I want port 3360 to map to 3389 on one of my internal computers. this is currently what i have in my config, and I thought i had done this before but its not working. Any ideas?

  • Port Forwarding / Mapping is not working !?

I've tried everything, searched on Google and nothing seems to work !
First of all, let me explain my problem. I have a Time Capsule connected to my Modem. From my Time Capsule I have a Airport Extreme connected by ethernet on my second floor. So what I want to do is to open the ports 6112 to 6118 on my iMac which is connected by ethernet to my Airport Extreme.
*These are my setting on my Airport Extreme:*
Connexion via Ethernet in bridge mode.
    IPv4: via DHCP
*These are my setting for my iMac's network:*
IPv4: DHCP with a manuel ip adress set to 10.0.1.201
*These are my settings on my Time Capsule:*
Connexion via Ethernet and sharing a public Ip adress.
    IPv4: Via DHCP
    First DHCP Adress : 10.0.1.2
    Last DHCP Adress: 10.0.1.200
    NAT-PMP Activated
*I also opened the ports in the port mapping section, these are my settings:*
    Service: I didn't choose a service
    UDP Ports public: 6112-6119
    TCP Ports Public: 6112-6119
    Private Ip adress: 10.0.1.201
    UDP Ports private: 6112-6119
    TCP Ports Private: 6112-6119
Now, when I go on the website: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ports/
and do a port test, it says it is closed, there must be something i am doing wrong...
Now if you are wondering why I have set my iMacs IP Address to 10.0.1.201, it is because on all the website I searched an answer they were telling my to put my iP address bigger than the First-Last DHCP Range of my Time Capsule which ends at 10.0.1.200, so I've put 10.0.1.200. I have also tried with other ranges and another ip address within the range and everything, but nothing has worked.
I really hope someone will/can help me,
Thank You very much for your help, and also sorry for my English as I am not very good at it because it isn't my primary language.
    Thank you for your comprehension.

This is just a guess, but if you still have that AirPort Extreme, you might plug it in long enough to have AirPort Utility do a File >Export Configuration File, then reconnect the Time Capsule and do a File > Import Configuration File.  Once that's done you may have to do a little adjustment to account for the disk drive.
